Farmers Branch CELEBRATES INDEPENDENCE DAY WITH A SPECTACULAR EVENT

Celebrate our nation’s independence with your neighbors, family and friends on Friday, July 1, from 6:30 – 10 p.m. at the Farmers Branch Historical Park!

Farmers Branch has the area’s best low-level fireworks show as well as lots of free activities for the kiddos including airbrush tattoos, balloon artists, strolling patriotic characters and the Ballistic Swing amusement ride. Keeping the evening lively will be the high-energy party band, Limelight, to get you up and dancing.

Food, drink, beer and wine will be available for purchase. Outside coolers are allowed, however, no alcohol may be brought into the event.

executive search firm hired to recruit next city manager

There is no higher priority for the Mayor and the City Council than finding the ideal candidate to become the next City Manager of Farmers Branch.

With that purpose in mind, the Council has hired the Executive Search firm Affion to oversee the process.

Affion representatives recently met with a broad cross section of citizens and City staff to develop a precise job description.

An easy to use calendar tool is now available online to assist residents with knowing their scheduled pick up days.

Once the specific job summary is approved by Council members, it will be distributed nationally for 30-40 days, to attract a broad field of talented candidates.

The Affion team will screen the applicants, based on credentials, experience and compatibility, to provide the Council with a field of top applicants (approximately 45 days).

This will likely include internal candidates and others from outside the City and State. Council members will then review the panel and narrow the list to a few finalists.

This group will then be invited to visit Farmers Branch for a series of interviews, presentations and additional community engagement, which will allow Council members and the public to see and interact with them in-person.

After this cycle, the Council will determine a single finalist, to be nominated as the next City Manager. The entire process is projected to last 4 to 5 months.

Redistricting committee submits recommended redrawn Council district map to city Council The City will soon have new District boundaries, better aligned with the City’s recent growth and demographic changes.

The City charter requires City Council Districts to be re-aligned after each Census, to maintain equal populations within a 10% standard deviation from the most populous to the least.

The Redistricting Commission has proposed a new City map meeting that criteria.

It protects communities of interest and reunites neighborhoods split by the current District map and establishes District 2 as a second majority minority District. It is more geographically compact and uses major streets as the primary boundaries between Districts.

The Commission is scheduled to present the new map to City Council on June 7 for consideration. The City Council will take time to study the Commission’s recommendations. At a future meeting, Council members will either propose changes or adopt the map as presented.
