We have been asked if mobility scooters should be driven on the roadways, in the bicycle lane, or on the sidewalk. Inside Casta del Sol, we do not have any designated bicycle lanes, so mobility scooters should be driven on the sidewalk where safety allows. Uneven pavement or steep driveway transitions may cause the driver to go onto the street for a short section of roadway, but scooters are considered a pedestrian assist vehicle, so they should primarily be on the sidewalks. The same rules that apply to pedestrians will apply to scooters. Remember to exercise caution and consideration of walkers who are going more slowly than the scooter. Exercise the same caution as you would if you were walking by being aware of crosswalks, traffic lights, pedestrian signals, and passing vehicles. The specific description in Casta’s rules and regulations reads, “Disability scooters are required to use sidewalks within Casta del Sol, wherever available for safe passage, and to display a red or orange triangular flag fastened on a six-foot rod affixed to the mobile device.” Lynn Yeazel, Co-Chair, (949) 582-0212, lyhdtv@gmail.com John Nethercutt, Co-Chair, (858) 688-3136, ravens987@hotmail.com Joe Hachadoorian, Liaison
Welcome
Welcome, as always, to newcomers in the community. Members of the Welcome Committee contact new residents to arrange a meeting and provide a packet of information about the many programs and clubs in Casta del Sol, and to answer your questions. If you have not yet been contacted by one of our members and wish to meet, you may email me to arrange a time and place to get together with one or two of us.
Welcome to Casta once again, and we hope you enjoy exploring and finding your way around the community. We look forward to meeting each one of you. And lastly, best wishes as you start your first full year in the community. Priscilla Tripp, Chair, ptripp1@gmail.com Joe Hachadoorian, Liaison
