AFTER HOURS EMERGENCY: The Fargo Park District has a person on-call 24 hours a day. For emergency situations or problems, call 476-4088.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Scholarships are available for youth programs. Registration procedures and forms are included in this booklet and are also available at FargoParks.com. For more information, call 499-6060.

PET OWNERS: Your pets are welcome in all of Fargo’s parks. Pets must be leashed and please clean up after them.

CONSUMPTION PERMITS: Alcoholic Beverage Permits are available for $50.00 through the Fargo Park District. Softball Team permits are limited to North Softball Complex parking lot only. Sand Volleyball Team permits are limited to Rabanus parking lot. Group permits are available at Lindenwood, Oak Grove, Rheault Farm, Rabanus, Trollwood and Urban Plains in conjunction with a paid shelter rental. Absolutely no glass bottles, hard alcohol or kegs.

The Fargo Park District Foundation enhances the quality of life in the metro area by developing modernized facilities, new programs and by offering great opportunities for the community.

Founded in 2018, the foundation remains committed to advancing recreational opportunities in Fargo.

The leadership for the Fargo Park District Foundation Board of Directors is made up of community leaders and concerned citizens serving in a volunteer capacity.

Their roles include financial overview and support, overseeing risk and compliance (fiduciary), creating accountability, transparency and strategic fundraising direction, and monitoring and evaluating governance.

THE MATCHING GRANT PROGRAM Formed in January 2019, the Matching Grant Program encourages partnerships between the Fargo Park District Foundation and organizations in the community to provide means to sponsor projects with the Fargo Park District and advance recreational opportunities in the City of Fargo. As of the time of print, the program has invested more than $67,000 in qualified projects throughout the Fargo community.

WHO CAN APPLY: Associations, organization, clubs or individuals in the Fargo Park District who are interested in a grant to partially sponsor a project. Projects must be facility improvements and may include the purchase of recreation equipment.

MATCHING GRANT APPLICATION DEADLINES: Applications are due twice a year on January 1 and July 1. Applications available at FargoParks.com.

COMMUNITY DINING Hot nutritious meals are served Monday through Friday at all of our centers.

BROADWAY STATION 232-7936 • 1461 Broadway N, Fargo Valley Senior Services has been providing services to the senior citizens of this area since 1971. These services include home delivered meals, community dining, transportation, resource services, and publication of a monthly newsletter, The Silver Quill. These services are for persons age 60 years and older who live in Fargo, West Fargo and Cass County. The Fargo Park District is the principal sponsor of Valley Senior Services. RESOURCE SPECIALISTS Are you looking for help finding services that will allow you to continue living independently in your home as late in life as possible? THE SILVER QUILL The Silver Quill is our monthly newsletter reporting on recent and upcoming events. It is distributed by mail and throughout the community. To join our mailing list, call 293-1440.

TRANSPORTATION Transportation is available throughout the metro area for all types of errands Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm. Also, Valley Senior Services provides rides to and from senior centers on weekdays, with shopping trips to grocery stores and surrounding stores scheduled weekly. MEALS ON WHEELS The Meals on Wheels program provides one hot, nutritious meal per day for 60 and older who meet eligibility standards. Volunteers deliver meals Monday-Friday throughout the six North Dakota counties we serve. Meals are offered to seniors on a contributory basis to offset the cost of providing this service.

SLATED TO OPEN NOVEMBER 2020 Every city needs a gathering space and Broadway Square is designed to be just that. The Fargo Park District is proud to be the managing partner of this exciting new space envisioned and designed by the Block 9 Partners. Pending construction, Broadway Square is slated to open the end of November 2020 with the Holiday Lights parade and a new tree lighting tradition.

This winter, Broadway Square will kick off a variety of winter programming and events in the heart of Downtown Fargo. Strap on your ice skates and enjoy daily ice skating or skating nights. Bring the family to visit Santa or come out for a family movie night at Frostival’s Cold Cinema. You can even test your skills at the Snow Sculpture Competition.

1702 27th Ave S This park has two youth baseball fields that have been adopted by the Fargo Youth Baseball for scheduled use and one fullsize baseball field, with an agri-lime infield, remaining open for baseball practices or games. This park also has 6 concrete pickleball courts and open space for football or soccer practices.

It is used by local high school hockey teams in addition to being used for ice skating and adult hockey leagues.

3010 11th Ave N The Bicycle Playground features a concrete pump track, single track dirt trails and a variety of challenge obstacles for kids of all skill levels to hone their off road skills. Use of proper protective gear is highly recommended.

901 Oak St N This beautiful complex has been renovated as part of the Oak Street Levee Project and is now a four-diamond softball complex with all four fields irrigated and lit. It is home to youth girls softball.

It is ideal for adventurous skateboarders, bikers and roller bladers. The Jefferson West, Madison and Village West Skate Parks are smaller facilities with a few smaller ramps and boxes for the beginner to advanced skateboarder. SOUTHWEST YOUTH ICE ARENA

4404 23rd Ave SW The Southwest Youth Ice Arena provides practice facilities for hockey and ice skating enthusiasts. This multi-purpose ice facility has two sheets of ice, concessions and locker rooms.

SPORTS ARENA

2001 17th Ave S Fargo’s most diversified recreation facility features artificial ice for winter activities.

The building is used by the public and the schools. The facility features a running track, weight room and figure skating rink.

THARALDSON BASEBALL COMPLEX

2401 42nd St SW This baseball park has three irrigated and fully lit grass infield fields and the newly renovated Starion turf field. The complex plays host to Fargo Youth Baseball, high school, amateur, Legion and some college baseball.

SHELTERS & CAMPGROUNDS

The Fargo Park District takes shelter reservations for the summer beginning on January 4. The following are parks with shelters available for reservations on a first come, first serve basis. Shelter reservations are for 10:00 am until 9:00 pm. To make a shelter reservation request or for more information about the shelters available for rent, please visit FargoParks.com. ISLAND PARK

LINDENWOOD CAMPGROUND

1955 Roger Maris Dr Lindenwood Campground reservations begin on January 4, 2021. To make a campground reservation, please call 232-3987. In the offseason, campground messages are returned weekly. Please expect a delayed response.

Lindenwood Campground is one of the finest campgrounds in the upper Midwest. The campground is conveniently located just off I-94, Exit 351 in Fargo, for easy entrance by travelers.

The heavily wooded campsite is nestled along the Red River, adding to the “wilderness feeling.’’

Lindenwood Campground conveniences include: paved drive, electricity, picnic tables, running water, fire pits, dump stations, hot showers, restrooms, two playground facilities, bike & kayak rentals and recreational trails. Forty-seven RV campsites are provided with water and electricity. Campers are limited to no more than a 14 day stay/30 day time period.

1905 Roger Maris Dr Fargo's largest and most popular park will attract up to 15,000 users on a summer weekend. The park is the largest multi-use park in Fargo with five picnic shelters. The park has a beautifully landscaped campground, bike and kayak rentals, restrooms, a fully adaptive playground for people of all abilities and one of the three bike bridges across the Red River.

170 Maple St N As one of Fargo’s oldest and most well groomed parks, this is an ideal place to have a family picnic or class reunion. The 36-acre park has an 18-hole disc golf course, three picnic shelters, a pickleball court, playground equipment, bike trails and one of three bike bridges across the Red River.

WALKING TRACKS

The Fargo Park District, in cooperation with the Fargo Public Schools, provides facilities for walkers wanting to be indoors. There is a walking track located at the Sports Arena, North High and at Courts Plus. The walking tracks are open daily. Hours are subject to change based on holidays, school events and other program needs. For more information, call 499-6060.

DOG PARKS

The dog parks offer fenced in areas for large and small dogs to exercise and socialize. There is seating at all parks. A shelter for dog owners is at both Yunker Farm and Village West dog parks. A water fountain for pets is at the Village West location. The dog parks are open daily from dawn to dusk year round, weather and turf conditions permitting.

Come out and enjoy some great winter exercise. Cross country ski trails are available to the public free of charge. Trails are groomed as needed, depending on the trail and weather conditions. Dike East to Lindenwood Trail This trail offers a 6.2K classic trail and a 2.9K skating trail. Dike East Trailhead is located at 100 2nd St S. Lindenwood Trailhead is located at 1905 Roger Maris Drive.

Edgewood Golf Course Trail This trail offers a 3.7K classic trail and a 3.5K skating trail. Edgewood Trailhead is located at 19 Golf Course Ave N. A warm chalet with ski and snowshoe rentals offered during chalet hours.

Forest River Trail This trail offers a 2.8K classic trail as well as a 2.8K snowshoe trail.

Forest River Trailhead is located at 500 Forest River Drive.

Heritage Hills Trail This trail has a 2K classic and a 2K snowshoe trail. Heritage Hills is located at 88th Ave S. Island Park Trail This trail has a 2 loop .8K classic and skating loop. Orchard Trailhead is located in the Orchard Glen gravel parking lot at 76 Ave S & Orchard Park Drive.

Prairiewood Golf Course Trail This trail offers two classic trails: a 2.7K classic trail and a 1K classic trail as well as a 2.7K snowshoe trail. Prairiewood Trailhead is located in the golf course parking lot at 22 Prairiewood Drive.

RECREATIONAL TRAIL SYSTEM

The Fargo Park District’s goal for our trail system is to provide safe and enjoyable trails for bicyclists, walkers, runners and inline skaters.

The Edgewood Chalet (at the old clubhouse) is open as a warming facility with an interior fireplace and snack bar. The sledding hill is lit during the chalet hours.

THE ACTIVITY CENTER The Activity Center is a recreational center for adults 17 years and older with developmental disabilities and/ or mental illness. The center offers various recreational and social activities including pool, foosball, cards, dances, bowling, cooking classes, arts and crafts, ceramics and various educational activities.

This program is for adults with physical and mental disabilities. The league starts with a few weeks of practice games and then breaks into smaller leagues. Ramps are available.

SWIMMING ICE SKATING POOLS

LEARN TO SKATE

Register for ONE ice skating session at a time. This allows everyone the opportunity to participate. To sign up for additional sessions, you must wait until the end of your current session to register for the next appropriate level. CHANGES/REFUNDS WILL NOT BE ISSUED FOR REGISTRATIONS MADE IN ADVANCE FOR WRONG CLASSES. These classes offer basic professional skating instructions for boys and girls age 2 to 13. Students are awarded test results at the end of the six classes.

ADULT & TOTS: Classes are for the beginning skater age 2-5. Skaters will skate in the class with a parent (parent must wear skates). Classes are held once a week for 45 minutes for six weeks. *5 years and under – if passed any level of Adult & Tot class may move to Beginner 1 before their 4th birthday BEGINNERS 1: Classes are for beginning skaters 5 years old and above that have never been in a previous skating program. Classes are held once a week for 45 minutes for six weeks.

PROGRAM INFORMATION

SKATES: The Fargo Park District does not have skate rentals. Hockey or figure skates are acceptable. Double-bladed skates are not allowed.

Skates should fit where the big toe brushes the end of the skates.

They should be tied tight as they will loosen as the child skates.

Scheels and Play It Again Sports sell used skates.

DRESS: Children are required to wear mittens or gloves in every class. Hats are suggested for Adult and Tots and Beginners for good protection of the skater’s head. Legs and arms must be covered.

Skaters should wear layers of sweatpants instead of snowpants.

As the weather gets colder outside, the temperature of the rink also gets colder, so dress warm.

BEGINNERS 2: Classes are for skaters who have completed Beginners Level 1. Classes are held once a week for 45 minutes for six weeks.

CLASS BEHAVIOR: Skaters may not eat candy or chew gum during class. Parents are encouraged to watch but not to interact with the skater during classes, with the exception of the Adult and Tot program.

INTERMEDIATE: Classes are for skaters who have completed Beginners Level 2. Classes are held once a week for 45 minutes for six weeks. You may register for up to two classes per session. Skaters will work on Level 3 and Level 4.

CONFIRMATION NOTE: Registrants will be contacted prior to the start of the program with dates of all classes.

ADVANCED: Classes are for the skaters who have completed Intermediate Level 4. Classes are held once a week for 45 minutes for six weeks. You may register for up to two classes per session. Skaters will work on Level 5 and Level 6.

TESTING: The testing dates will be noted in your confirmation. These dates will be the only time for testing. Test results will be handed out the last day of classes for the session.

NOVICE PATCH: Novice Patch is the next progressive step for skaters who have completed Advanced Level 6. Students are taught the fundamentals of freeskate, dance and moves in the field. You may register for up to two classes per session. Classes are held once a week for 45 minutes for six weeks.

PRIVATE LESSONS: Classes are for those who have mastered at least Level 4 and want to start private lessons. If you are interested in private lessons please contact Laura Jacobson at: ljacobson@FargoParks.com ADULT: This is a class for adults age 14 and older who would like to learn how to skate or improve on the basics of skating. This is a group class contained to one area of the rink.

JUNIOR TENNIS LESSONS

Whether your child is just starting the game or is trying to make a school team, we have lessons designed to take them to the next level. Our Star Junior Tennis and MXP Tennis programs use a progressive court system that include 36’, 60’ and 78’ (regular size) tennis court. Coupled with ensuring proper racquet length and using different types of tennis balls based on age and ability, our goal is to get your child playing tennis as soon as possible.

This system gives your child a visible progression to maximize their improvement. Lessons are divided into three critical phases beginning with a warm-up emphasizing tennis specific movement and coordination. This is followed by a skill-building phase and skills are then practiced “live” in a competitive phase, where rallying and game conditions are experienced.

COURT PLUS CHILD WATCH

Courts Plus Child Watch offers the best way to work out without worrying about a babysitter. Your children will be endlessly entertained by our playroom, playground, variety of activities and trained child watch workers. A maximum of two hours may be spent at one time per day. Parents must remain at Courts Plus during this time. Child Watch is included with the Platinum and Gold Kids Memberships.

Courts Plus Community Fitness has two regulation sized basketball courts available for rentals. To achieve this, it is necessary to establish a department policy. The Fargo Park District’s approach toward serving the low and moderate income citizens of the City of Fargo shall be:

OBJECTIVE

To provide opportunity to allow financially disadvantaged youth ages 18 and younger to participate in general recreation programs.

POLICY STATEMENT

It is the policy of the Fargo Park District that no individual 18 years and younger that is a current resident of the City of Fargo for at least 90 days and lives within the corporate limits of the City of Fargo, shall be denied participation in general recreation programs due to financial inability to pay the program fees.

INCOME ELIGIBILITY GUIDELINES AND PHILOSOPHY

• To be eligible for this program, the Fargo Park District must receive a completed scholarship application, income verification AND a program registration form prior to registration deadline.

• Eligibility will follow the federal lunch assistance program guidelines. Each child may be eligible to receive one per season.

• Must be a Fargo resident to apply for this scholarship.

ADOPT-THE-RED

The greatest threat to the Red River today is non-point source pollution.

Keeping the banks of the Red River litter-free is one way to reduce non-point source pollution. The Adopt-The-Red program stresses prevention of litter accumulation and rubbish removal by recruiting people to “adopt” reaches of the river.

Cleanups remove trash and litter while increasing community pride. For more information, please call 551-5891.

RIVER KEEPERS OF THE RED RIVER OF THE NORTH River Keepers, a non-profit organization dedicated to advocating sustainable use of the Red River of the North in the Fargo-Moorhead area, was formed to: increase safety on and by the Red; promote the Red as a recreational resource including canoeing, kayaking and pedestrian/bike trails; educate youth and adults about the Red and its watershed; connect the Red to downtown urban development; develop cooperative relationships with dozens of agencies and organizations, effectively expanding what it does.
