Statement of Purpose Our purpose is to create a supportive and caring community that cherishes love of learning, creativity, and individuality, and that provides teachers and students with both support and freedom to take risks in order to reach their full potential.

Implicit in our philosophy is the goal of bringing students to their highest level of academic and personal competency, both for their present and in preparation for their future education. In addition, we share a much larger purpose.

We see Far Brook’s mission as a desire to use and to adapt the principles of progressive education and its philosophy of pragmatism for a changing world, and while valuing academic excellence and respect for nature, to instill a creative response to learning with great art, drama, music, and literature as models.

Our approach to education demands that both students and teachers be active participants in a reciprocal learning experience. We recognize the role of metaphor, ritual, and tradition in children’s lives and the power of the arts in the learning process. Our curriculum is unified by interdisciplinary studies of thematic units and great historical eras, which allow children to relate themselves to the universe and to the history of mankind. A Far Brook education takes place in an environment of natural beauty and intimacy, where character and citizenship are valued as much as achievement, process as much as product.

It is our desire to touch the lives of children so they may live life wisely and with great joy.

Throughout the following pages, you will find an overview of the previous year—one that reflects meaningful progress and continued partnership, as our community came together to support the people, programs, and experiences that define Far Brook and bring our mission to life. Every act of generosity—large and small—helps ensure that our students learn, grow, and thrive in an environment that celebrates curiosity, creativity, and connection.

Earlier this year, Far Brook began a strategic planning process to guide the School’s direction over the next several years. A Steering Committee of trustees, parents, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and friends of the School has been guiding this work, gathering input from across our community.

As part of this process, the broader Far Brook community has been invited to share perspectives and feedback to ensure the plan reflects our collective vision. We look forward to introducing the final strategic plan in spring 2026. We are in the early stages of a fundraising effort to bring key elements of this vision to life for our students, faculty, and families. We are deeply grateful for our community’s thoughtful engagement as we shape Far Brook’s future.

This past year was outstanding for philanthropy, with gifts and pledges totaling more than $2.9 million—a remarkable achievement that reflects the profound generosity of our community.

Early gifts to the upcoming campaign, along with ongoing support for the endowment, tuition assistance, and other initiatives, continue to strengthen the School and expand opportunities for our students. The 2024-2025 Far Brook Fund, our annual giving program, surpassed its goal, raising more than $427,000 to provide vital resources that directly enhance every student’s experience, every day.

Far Brook’s endowment continues to grow at an exceptional rate, reflecting our community’s enduring commitment to both the School’s present and its future. We are focused on the prudent stewardship of all financial resources, managing these assets responsibly to safeguard Far Brook’s long-term sustainability while nourishing the vibrant teaching, learning, and creative exploration happening every day. As of June 30, 2025, the endowment had a fair market value of $11,694,699, an increase of nearly 13% over the previous year. This growth reflects the power of collective generosity and careful management, helping to preserve our mission for generations to come.

Endowment As of June 30, 2025, Far Brook’s endowment totaled $11,694,699, representing an endowment per student of $51,746, well above the NAIS median endowment per student in elementary schools, K-12 schools, and schools with 200300 students. This permanent fund is an enduring source of strength for the School, made possible by the vision and generosity of donors who choose to invest in our long-term future. The principal is preserved in perpetuity and prudently invested, ensuring that every gift continues to grow and support Far Brook for generations to come. In accordance with a Board-approved policy, a percentage of the endowment is drawn each year to support the operating budget. This annual distribution provides steady resources to support academic programs, experiential learning, immersion travel experiences, tuition assistance, DEC initiatives, faculty development, facilities, and general needs, all of which define a Far Brook education.

Endowment giving is one of the most powerful ways a donor can make a lasting impact. While annual gifts through The Far Brook Fund support the School’s immediate needs, and major gifts and capital campaigns fuel transformative initiatives and capital projects, endowment gifts secure Far Brook’s future. They help safeguard the School during times of economic change, support long-term planning, and ensure that the mission, values, creativity, and joyful learning at the heart of Far Brook remain strong for the students of today and tomorrow.

Enrollment Management The 2024-25 Admissions journey for prospective families offered opportunities for additional meaningful touchpoints and a more personalized, streamlined process. This included reimagining key events such as Small Group Tours offered during the fall, along with continuing well-loved touchpoints like our Craft & Sip for Applicant Parents & Guardians, Winter Celebration, an Alumni Panel, and Affinity Coffees.

New recruiting events included Neighborhood Coffees in current parents’ homes as well as two curriculum coffees, one for Math and the other for an overview of Progressive Education in the Lower School.

Summer at Far Brook Since its debut in Summer 2022, Summer at Far Brook has grown into a vibrant and thriving part of our community.

Each season we introduce new offerings, welcome new community partners, and create opportunities that reflect the wide-ranging interests of our campers. This past summer, 529 campers participated across nine weeks of programming, supported by 28 faculty members and 13 alumni who served in key roles, clear evidence of the strong and growing demand for meaningful summer experiences at Far Brook.

Matching Gifts Many corporations offer matching gift programs for employees and their families. Most programs match on a dollar-per-dollar basis and can double or triple the size of your gift. All matching support will be credited to you. Gifts of Stock or Wire Transfers By donating appreciated stock that you have held for more than a year directly to Far Brook, you avoid paying capital gains taxes. Plus, you are eligible to deduct the full fairmarket value of the asset you donated from your income taxes, up to the overall amount allowed by the IRS. Contact the Development team for our Gift of Securities directions or to arrange for a wire transfer.

Planned Giving Supporters of Far Brook can make planned gifts, also known as legacy gifts, which are commonly donated through a will or estate plan.
