False Creek Flats The normalization of values in the structure of a city reinforces its own patterns. Since the role of the individual is shaped by the value system scripted into the urban fabric, consideration of the value system resident in urban patterns is critical to an understanding of the relationship between the individual and the environment.

As the diversity of our cities is threatened by ever narrowing development pro-formas and carefully crafted expectations, the context of our craft is becoming increasingly technocratic, expedient and driven by regional issues; far beyond the scope of discreet buildings.
