STAFF AT THE STADIUM SLEEP ROUGH FOR SIMON ON THE STREETS

On Thursday 23rd April The John Smith’s Stadium hosted Huddersfield’s first #SleepWithSimon event for charity partner Simon on the Streets.

Simon on the Streets is an independent charity that helps and supports those who are sleeping rough or are in danger of doing so. Sleeping rough is not just a case of not having a home, it stems from many other problems including; drugs, alcohol, childhood problems and social, mental and behavioural issues.

The team at Simon on the Streets are nongovernment funded, which gives them the flexibility to work with their service users on a more individual level. The team operate weekly soup runs, street outreach work and individual intensive support. This level of support means that the team can work at the pace of each individual service user to help them make positive changes in their lives.

Around 40 fundraisers attended the sleep out, including staff from KSDL, Stafflex, Ramsdens, YTL and Yorkshire Payments, and helped to raise in total £4,715.00 so far.

The staff from Kirklees Stadium Development Ltd (KSDL), which included Managing Director Gareth Davies, helped to raise £850 for the cause, as well as donating bacon butties and hot drinks to hand out to the sleepers in the morning.

KSDL’s Managing Director Gareth Davies commented, “It was a great pleasure for us at The John Smith’s Stadium to be able to host Huddersfield’s first Simon on the Streets sleep out. It’s another example of the wide range of activities that we are very pleased to be involved in.”

Commenting on the event, Aissa Gallie from Simon on the Streets said, “The first sleep out in Huddersfield was a great success for the charity with over 40 participants, we were able to create a great atmosphere and expect the final fundraising total to be in the region of £6,000. Our sincerest thanks to all that took part, to Yorkshire Payments who sponsored the event and to The John Smith’s stadium for hosting it. We look forward to next year!”

LV= BRITANNIA RESCUE RENEW SPONSORSHIP WITH THE STADIUM We are delighted to announce that LV= Britannia Rescue has renewed its sponsorship with The John Smith’s Stadium for a further three years.

LV= Britannia Rescue first started sponsoring the east stand around six years ago and has continued to work closely with The John Smith’s Stadium ever since.

The stand has been given a new lease of life as LV= Britannia Rescue has updated the stand banners to incorporate its branding and logo.

As part of the new sponsorship agreement the stand will now be named the ‘LV= Britannia Rescue Stand’.

Gareth Davies, Managing Director at The John Smith’s Stadium commented, “I am delighted that we will be continuing our partnership with LV= Britannia Rescue. They are a great partner for the Stadium and I am delighted that our two important local organisations will be working together into the future.”

John O’Roarke, Managing Director at LV= commented: “We are always looking for ways to support organisations in the local area so we are really pleased to renew our partnership with John Smith’s Stadium. I am delighted that the stand will now reflect our new branding and I’m sure our employees will enjoy seeing that on match days.

NEW SPONSORSHIP DEAL FOR THE STADIUM We are delighted to announce that Hanson Chartered Surveyors are sponsor at The John Smith’s Stadium.

As part of this sponsorship Hanson’s have branded the vomitory exits in the LV= Britannia Rescue Stand.

Commenting on the sponsorship, Gareth Davies, Managing Director of The John Smith’s Stadium said, “We are thrilled to have established this new partnership with Mark and his team. We have successfully worked with Hanson’s for many years now and are glad to be able to offer them our help and advice as they have done for us.”

The Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice are one of the two official charity partners of The John Smith’s Stadium.

The Stadium, who have worked very closely with the hospice over the past few years, hosting their Sporting Dinners and pledging support to a number of their campaigns, will continue to partner with Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, a charity who provide care and support to children with life shortening conditions and their families.

As a boost to this relationship, the Stadium have placed Forget Me Not branding at both ends of the Revell Ward Stand, in a campaign to aid the charities exposure and to show the Stadium’s support of their fantastic work.

THE JOHN SMITH’S STADIUM PROVIDES THEIR SUPPORT TO THE FORGET ME NOT CHILDREN’S HOSPICE

£96,000 RAISED

BY THE MIDNIGHT MEMORY WALK Over a thousand charity fundraisers came together at The John Smith’s Stadium on the 20th June 2015 to take part in the annual Midnight Memory Walk. With all walkers dressed in matching neon green t-shirts and plenty sporting flashing bunny ears, glow sticks and whistles, there was a real buzz in the air as the ten mile walk began.

The walkers supported each other and kept up good spirits as they proceeded through the streets of Huddersfield, with visions of bacon butties at the finish line. The night was certainly one to remember and we were very proud to be part of an event that raises money for such a worthy cause.

SUCCESS IN SPECTATOR SAFETY The photo above shows a group of newly appointed Safety Stewards who have been successful in achieving their Level 2 NVQ in Spectator Safety.

The qualification is required under the terms of the General Safety Certificate to ensure all the Safety Stewards employed at The John Smith’s Stadium are well qualified and competent in managing events. The training is done ‘in house’ by the match day Management Team but overseen by

Derby College, who assess the Safety Stewards competence to ensure they reach the required standards.

The qualification covers several modules including customer care, crowd management, emergency procedures, first aid and dealing with fires. It is no easy task and requires the Safety Stewards to contribute large amounts of their own time to achieve the award, so they can justly be proud of their achievement.

PITCH REFURBISHMENT At the end of the football season, and scheduling in around the Giants rugby matches, the Stadium Grounds Team have a very short window of opportunity to carry out their annual, major refurbishment of the pitch.

This is a vital and a very precious time for our team to work their magic.

On Wednesday 25th March the Stadium played host to four fantastic sporting stars; Olympic silver medallist and professional cyclist Lizzie Armitstead, Giants prop forward Eorl Crabtree, former Huddersfield Town forward Frank Worthington and Olympic gold medallist and athletic legend Steve Cram.

The dinner was in aid of and organised by local charity, the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice, who care for children across West Yorkshire who have serious and terminal health conditions.

With the help of private donations from guests and the evening’s auctions, the dinner raised an amazing £35,000 for the hospice.

Charity Head of Corporate Fundraising, Emma Kovaleski said, ”Our second annual Sporting Dinner was an amazing success. We had over 70 more attendees this year compared to our first year and the atmosphere was truly fantastic.”

MYCCI BECOME THE NEWEST TENANTS AT THE STADIUM Welcome to the the Mid Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce who have relocated to our premises from Lockwood Park. The move has seen Chamber staff including MYExport Hub the international trade arm of the Chamber, located at the Stadium.
