Williamsburg Elementary School Williamsburg, OH
The new PreK–5 elementary school in Williamsburg is transforming education by creating a future-ready learning environment that supports students, teachers, and the broader community. To bring this long-awaited vision to life, Williamsburg partnered with Fanning Howey after more than eight years of planning. The district's innovative approach included a public/private partnership with an in-district industrial partner, showcasing creative funding strategies that made the project possible. Community engagement played a vital role throughout the process. Fanning Howey led school tours, educational visioning sessions, and schematic design workshops to ensure alignment among stakeholders, staff, and residents. The selected site carries deep historical significance. Once home to the original Clermont County courthouse and the district's former high school, the site balances honoring local history with the creation of a modern learning environment. The design incorporates elements that reflect the community's heritage while addressing the district's growing needs.

Trailside Elementary School Zionsville, IN
An updated elementary school prototype gives Zionsville students and educators a more engaging, flexible, and efficient environment that supports the evolving needs of teaching and learning. Working closely with district educators, Fanning Howey reimagined the elementary school prototype originally developed in 2007, creating a design that reflects contemporary educational practices while allowing each school to establish its own identity. A redesigned entrance enhances the arrival experience and strengthens the school’s presence within the community. The updated prototype incorporates technology-rich learning environments, additional large-group instructional spaces, and more efficient teacher work areas that support collaboration and productivity. The design team also master planned the site to accommodate both the new elementary school and a future academic building, ensuring the campus can grow alongside the district’s needs while maintaining a cohesive long-term vision.

Parkside Elementary School Painesville, OH
Fanning Howey helped the district transform its elementary educational experience by creating modern, student-centered schools that support collaboration, innovation, and stronger community connections while consolidating resources for future generations. Following the successful passage of the district’s November 2016 bond issue, the project replaced four aging elementary schools with two new 630-student, 73,628-square-foot facilities. While the buildings share a common design approach, each was developed with its own distinct identity. The schools are organized around a welcoming community-use zone featuring a gymnasium, cafeteria, stage, and operable partition that allows spaces to flex for school and community events. The design supports a variety of learning styles through flexible, collaborative spaces that extend beyond the traditional classroom. An innovation lab connected to the media center through a glass garage door encourages hands-on exploration, while dedicated art, music, and sensory rooms support the whole child. Academic pods are organized into clusters of four classrooms surrounding shared extended learning areas and small group rooms, giving teachers greater flexibility to personalize instruction and foster collaboration. 22

While the designs of the two buildings are quite similar, each has its own unique character. Both feature a single-story community-use area that includes a gymnasium, which can be separated from the cafeteria by an operable wall, and a stage. The administrative area serves as a transition to the two-story academic section. The schools boast an innovation lab connected to the media center via a glass garage door, as well as an art room, music room, and sensory room. Each academic pod includes four classrooms, a small group room, and a large central extended learning area.

Eastwood Elementary School Pemberville, OH
Generations of Eastwood Elementary School students will benefit from personalized learning environments that support academic growth, collaboration, and engagement while giving teachers the flexibility to adapt instruction to diverse learning styles. The design emerged from a collaborative visioning process that included tours of several Fanning Howey schools, allowing Eastwood leaders to evaluate proven educational environments and identify the strategies that best aligned with the District’s goals. The resulting plan organizes the school into a series of small learning communities that foster stronger connections among students and staff while creating a more supportive, student-centered experience. At the heart of the school, a centrally located media center serves as a flexible learning hub that encourages collaboration, exploration, and a variety of instructional approaches. By pairing forward-thinking educational design with cost-effective building materials, the project delivers a high-performing, adaptable facility that meets today’s needs while providing long-term value for the community.
