We’d like to send big birthday wishes to Earth Day, which is 50 years old on Wednesday! Since the Earth is so big and deserves a big celebration, we’re going to celebrate Earth Week!
WE’LL START OFF TODAY WITH A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY ABOUT EARTH DAY.

Earth Day began when 20 million Americans across the country held demonstrations to let the government know that they believed we needed to be kinder to the Earth.
Because of these demonstrations, many things began to change, both in the United States and around the world. In the United States, we created the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA does a lot, but, in simple terms, their job is to make sure states and companies follow rules that keep our planet safe and clean.
You might think recycling programs have always been in place, but for a VERY long time, people just threw everything away. And that garbage was just piled up and piled up. Luckily, thanks to the EPA and other people who want to do the right thing, we realized that we could reuse a lot of these materials.
Now, 66% of our paper is recycled, shoes and clothes can be made from plastic bottles, and discarded plastic fishing nets find new life as skateboards!
There are simple ways you can help celebrate Earth Day:
