Let’s Take A
FIELD TRIP
Since we’re all staying close to home these days, let’s take a virtual field trip and visit some exciting projects in our communities!
Today we’re going to “visit”
Jaime Ulloa Park The City of Springfield is home to Jaime Ulloa Park. A true neighborhood park, Jaime Ulloa Park serves the surrounding community as a space for neighbors to gather for socialization, play, and sport. We recently helped the City enhance park access, improve park amenities, and increase the park’s safety.
The Park used to be enclosed by fencing and retaining walls, and was only accessible by two small entrances. The new design removes the walls and fence to improve visual and physical access to the park. The design features improvements to new walking surfaces and there is a system of connected walkways to encourage a walkable environment. The design also included a universally-inclusive playground, new signage, and site amenities.
Lynch Family Skate Park
In Cambridge, we got to help create Lynch Family Skate Park. A skate park can be dangerous for many reasons, but building one can also be dangerous.
During site excavation, we conducted real-time particulate matter monitoring and collected ambient air samples that were analyzed on site. We performed background air sampling and dust monitoring, prepared a site-specific Health and Safety Plan, and conducted two-hour Asbestos Awareness training for the General Contractor.
Gatehouse Park In South Hadley, we provided engineering and landscape design services for Gatehouse Park and the adjacent Riverside Park Recreational area. This site creates a recreational park highlighting the historic canal system adjacent to the Hadley Falls Dam.
We performed a structural assessment of an existing bridge crossing over the canal to make sure it was safe and we created several pedestrian pathways to access prime fishing areas along the river. To enhance this beautiful area and showcase the Connecticut River, selective pruning of existing trees and vegetation was included in the landscaping design.
We hope you had fun on our Virtual Field Trip to
Massachusetts!
