IST105: F&M Liberal Arts & Beyond (LAB)

IST105: F&M Liberal Arts and Beyond (F&M LAB) is a unique course for incoming first-year international students, designed to help students begin their F&M careers with confidence and a sense of community . Students who successfully complete the course will earn one F&M course credit towards their degree Taught by Dr Nadia Mann, F&M’s Assistant Dean for International & Multilingual Student Success, F&M LAB has three main goals:

• To introduce students to their new community, including a community of international classmates, F&M faculty and staff, and the community of Lancaster

• To prepare students for the expectations of the F&M liberal arts curriculum and the experience of living in the US

• To practice the reading, writing, study, and discussion skills that will be crucial for success in first-semester coursework

F&M LAB helps students to not only prepare for their first-semester coursework but also to become leaders on campus Students in the course arrive to campus two weeks before International Orientation, giving them time to become familiar with campus, adjust to the time zone, and discover a wide variety of resources and tools
