SJGC FEST — ONE FREQUENCY, INFINITE VOICES This year’s #GradsAreBack theme celebrates the School of Journalism & Graphic Communication’s (SJGC) legacy of bringing together successful FAMU grads, student media alumni, industry leaders, and our dynamic students and faculty. We gather on “The Hill” to honor the collective impact of our past and present, while charting the future of storytelling in its many forms. “One Frequency” speaks to the constancy, persistence, and rhythm that have defined our programs for more than 50 years.

Our legacy is underscored by an unwavering commitment to producing “Infinite Voices,” who are impacting and influencing the wide-reaching fields of media, design, and communications.

THE TRADITION CONTINUES For over a decade, storytellers, creatives, communicators, and community and corporate partners from across the nation have made their way back to FAMU during the University’s nationally recognized Homecoming Week to reconnect, engage and share their expertise with students pursuing careers in journalism, public relations, graphic design, and beyond. We’re thrilled to welcome each of you to a week of connection, celebration, and inspiration!

A MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN

Welcome home, Rattlers and friends! We are excited to celebrate this year’s SJGC Fest — One Frequency, Infinite Voices. Our annual Grads Are Back tradition brings together students, alumni, and our community and corporate partners to reconnect, share wisdom, and inspire one another as we continue shaping the next generation of storytellers and media leaders. This year’s Homecoming festivities mark several milestones: the 20th anniversary of our SJGC building, celebrated with the unveiling of new signage; the return of our legendary student newspaper, The FAMUAN, to print after five years; and the kickoff of WANM-FM’s 50th anniversary, honoring a student-run station that has amplified voices for decades. We are also launching our FAMU SJGC Walk of Fame Brick Campaign, inviting alumni, students, faculty, and supporters to leave a lasting legacy with a commemorative brick to support our students and programs. Beyond the memories we will create, we invite you to participate in timely discussions and training on issues impacting our industry and communities. Panels, workshops, fireside chats, and seminars will reflect our core values of collaboration, creativity, and innovation, while addressing topics such as civil discourse in a divided nation, AI in public relations, ethical design, building community trust through storytelling, and crisis response. In a time when newsrooms are shrinking and news deserts are growing, we’re proud to host a fireside chat with Dontaira Terrell (Public Relations, ‘08), a journalist, editor, and media entrepreneur who, alongside her sister, acquired The Buckeye Review, one of the nation’s longest-running Black-owned newspapers. The energy behind this year’s programming and speaker line-up is as bold and reflective as our theme, demonstrating our commitment to unite with one frequency to develop infinite voices that will confidently tell, promote, and visualize stories that matter. To our students: Take advantage of every opportunity to grow your knowledge, your network, and your worldview. To every faculty and staff member, student, alum, Board of Visitors member, partner, volunteer, and speaker, who has contributed to this event and our programs year-round—thank you. Yours in Service,

Mira Lowe Dean, School of Journalism & Graphic Communication Florida A&M University

FROM THE BOARD OF VISITORS CHAIR

Welcome Home, Rattlers! Dear FAMU SJGC Graduates and Friends, There’s nothing quite like coming home to “The Hill.” It’s an incredible feeling to see our FAMU SJGC family gathered once again—reconnecting, rejoicing, and reflecting on the legacy we continue to build together. On behalf of the School of Journalism & Graphic Communication’s Board of Visitors, thank you for returning to where it all began to pay it forward. This year’s Grads Are Back celebration is more than a Homecoming event; it’s a powerful reminder of our shared mission to inform, inspire, and impact. As we celebrate the infinite voices SJGC has produced in our industry and beyond, let’s honor the achievements of the past, such as the impact of our student media, as we celebrate special milestones for The FAMUAN and WANM-FM 90.5 this year. With the power of the SJGC frequency, we are setting the tone for the future of storytelling. I encourage each of you to engage with our students, share your wisdom, and help guide them as they prepare to lead and innovate. Your presence here reinforces what makes SJGC extraordinary: a community built on excellence, integrity, and a commitment to truth-telling in every form of media. Enjoy the sessions, the stories, and the spirit of FAMU SJGC this week, as we pause to recognize our 20th anniversary in the hallowed halls of the SJGC Building and launch our Brick Campaign. May you leave reenergized, reassured, and proud to be part of this ever-growing legacy. With Rattler Pride, Kim Godwin Manning, ‘84 Vice President & Co-Founder, The Winning Foundation Chair, SJGC Board of Visitors
