HITTING THE LINKS In

the summer of 1996, a young amateur golfer turned pro and at that moment, the game that was viewed by many as an old guy’s sport for ex-football players and business executives, took on an all new appeal. That golfer’s name was Tiger Woods and the new appeal caused an avalanche of young kids to put down their baseball bats and pick up a nine iron. When the 21 year old Woods crushed the Masters field in April 1997, golf was a stagnant sport that saw 2 million new players each year, but also 2 million quitters. Within days of the 1997 Masters, the sport gained 3 million new players as a tremendous influx of dads began to teach their sons how to play golf. Despite Woods’ recent personal troubles, his legacy has proved to be a lasting one.

The First Tee conducts its programs on the golf course and at the Chi Chi Rodriguez Family Sports Complex across the street. The program offers students free golf equipment, professional instruction and access to golf course play. The First Tee is a World Golf Foundation initiative, dedicated to providing young people of all backgrounds an opportunity to develop, through the game of golf and character education, lifeenhancing values such as honesty, integrity and sportsmanship. The intent is to offer opportunities for improvement in the quality of academic performance, social communication and to create a platform where young people can increase their potential for success using the values inherent in the game of golf.

The First Tee of Clearwater offers year-round programming to the youth in Pinellas, Hillsborough and Pasco Counties. These programs include Saturday Clinics, an After School Program, Summer Camps and Outreach Programs and partnerships with other youth organizations in the community. During that time the club hosted 18 Senior Tour Championships, and this was the beginning of the Senior PGA Tour. Back then, the PGA and PGA Tour of today were the same corporation. Whether it’s your first time on the course, or just the first time this week, staying on top of this Donald Ross-designed jewel is always a pleasurable task. That’s why Dunedin Golf Club welcomes you to sharpen your shots at their practice facility. Because if you’re going to play a Donald Ross, you better practice that way! Dunedin Golf Club has a full-size driving range allowing you to use all of your clubs. There are 20-25 hitting stations and a practice sand bunker. The range is 250 yards long, with netting at the end allowing for practice with all clubs including driver. In addition to the driving range, Dunedin has a short-game practice area and a separate practice putting green. The short game practice area consists of two target greens and a large sand bunker. The short range can accommodate shots up to 100 yards. LESSONS: When you operate a Donald Ross golf course, it’s a good idea to offer golf lessons as well! The Chi Chi Rodriguez Youth Foundation, Inc. is pleased to announce its support of the Fairways for Warriors, Southwest FL Chapter. Commencing in June 2015, one Saturday per month Chi Chi’s Golf Club will provide driving range and golf course access at no charge to current members of the Fairways for Warriors Southwest FL Chapter. In addition to programming each month, members with valid ID Cards will receive special discounts for range and course access at other times. Programs will take place at the Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf and Family Sports Complex and the Chi Chi Rodriguez Golf Club. He has coached players on the WTA Tour to the highest ranking of 22 in the world. Angel makes use of cutting edge technologies which includes using a computer to analyze a player’s game style and swing patterns. He has produced over $8.3 million in collegiate scholarships for his players. He has worked with Peter Czink and Dani Posada,

FOOTBALL COMBINE Local businessmen and certified personal trainers, Bryant Tisdale and DJ Brooks, owners of Ultimate Stomping Ground, an athletic training facility and gym in Clearwater, are committed to making a difference in the lives of as many young athletes in Pinellas County, and throughout the state of Florida, as possible, by adding value to their lives and helping them to enhance and improve their overall athletic performance. Ultimately, their goal is to ensure that all athletes reach their full potential, both personally and professionally. On Saturday, July 25th 2015, 200 high school football players from around the state of

Florida will gather together in Clearwater to have their athletic skills tested on the turf at Clearwater Catholic High School, during the inaugural Ultimate Stomping Ground football combine. Bryant Tisdale said that local high school football players will have the unprecedented opportunity to attend a combine right here in their own backyard! “I’m a proponent of youth development and helping young people to achieve athletic performance goals, so I devised a plan to host a football combine that would be an inexpensive and impactful way for high school

football players to have their current stats and skills professionally tested, so that they can create realistic goals about playing on the collegiate, or perhaps even, professional level.” A football combine lets high school football players show off their natural athletic ability with specific timed and measured events like the 40-yard dash and vertical jump. The players will then break off into different stations based on their positions, where they would be coached. The main reason to attend a football combine is to get measurable information about your skills. Verified statistics are important for your player profile, so getting timed in the 40-yard dash or shuttle run, or

Believing Tampa Foundation is a nonprofit organization committed to help people who suffer with spinal cord injury, stroke, cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis and other neurological impairments to have access to advanced rehabilitation therapy. Since insurance companies do not cover the specialized long term therapy that activity based exercise centers offer, potential clients who are not able to afford rehabilitative therapy costs do not have the opportunity to seek recovery options that are beneficial to their well being and quality of life. This event will help to fund a therapy assistance program that would enable the individual to participate in a therapy program geared towards recovery. Registration begins at 7 a.m. Shotgun scramble time is 8 a.m. The registration fee of $100 for

individuals or $380 for foursome includes the greens fee on the beautiful Westchase Golf Club, a cart and a prime lunch served when players finish their rounds of play. HIP HOP DANCE CAMP

Ages: 5-14 1:00pm – 4:00pm June 29-July 2 This fun, high energy dance camp focuses on movement, coordination, rhythm, timing and teamwork! This camp will include learning rhythmic dance moves and incorporating the learned moves into a dance routine. At the end of the week, a performance will be put on for the parents.

SKATE CAMP

Ages: 7-13 9:00am – 12:00pm June 15-18, June 29-July 2 July 13-16, 27-30 Come learn how to shred at the newly remodeled Ian Tillman Skate Park!
