A celebration of live performance for children & families
A celebration of live performance for children and families from 9th - 24th April. In a unique collaboration, four independent Sussex venues Komedia, Ropetackle, Brighton Open Air Theatre and The Old Market are working together to produce Back to Live, a special season of events for children of all ages celebrating the return of live performance. From puppets to bubbles, classic tales to clubs, internationally acclaimed and local artists there really is something for everyone in this exciting programme of events. “We feel there has never been a better time to celebrate live performance and all the joy that it can bring. We’re delighted to be working with the charity Kids at Komedia and our colleagues at the participating venues.” Colin Granger and Marina Kobler, founding directors of Komedia.

After a two-year gap the streets of Brighton will once again be full of colour and creativity as the Brighton Festival welcomes back its beloved Children’s Parade this May. On Saturday 7 May 5,000 of Brighton and Hove’s school children will fill the city with a riot of colour and sound to kickstart the wider Festival programme of music, art, literature, theatre, community events and more. Jointly produced with award-winning community arts charity Same Sky, this year’s Children's Parade theme is Rebuilding and Hope, celebrating the strength and resilience of local communities and what can be achieved when we listen and work together. The artists from Same Sky have come together with teachers, students, and volunteers from schools all over Brighton to make magnificent sculptures, choreograph dance routines, and compose parade chants. The Children’s Parade officially marks the opening of each Brighton Festival, an annual three-week celebration of arts and culture across Brighton, Hove and East Sussex from 7-29 May. The largest event of its kind in Europe, this family-friendly, free parade takes place across central Brighton and has been delighting participants and spectators for more than 30 years. Everyone is invited to join in and celebrate - the parade starts from Jubilee Street, outside Brighton Library, at 10.30am, finishing on Madeira Drive. Find out what’s on at Brighton Festival at brightonfestival.org
