South Downs National Park and South Downs Way, including Ditchling Beacon, which is the second highest point in the South Downs National Park with spectacular views across the Weald. As the name suggests, Ditchling Beacon was one of a chain of fires lit to warn of impending invasions. It was once an Iron Age hillfort, steep northern slope used as a natural defence. Managed

by The National Trust and Sussex Wildlife Trust. Go to Ditchling Beacon via Breeze Buses which (open top in summer if dry).

October 3-4 October Autumn & Countryside Show*, Weald & Downland Living Museum, celebrating end of harvest, featuring traditional working demonstrations, heavy horses and vintage tractors ploughing, steam-powered threshing, craft demonstrations, displays and competitions; also ferret racing, gun dog displays & show, 10.30am-5pm.

4 October Rottingdean Beach Clean, hosted

by The Deans Beach & Environment Volunteers, BYO bin bag, gloves & picker, 11am-1pm.

10 October Comedy Club 4 kids*, Komedia, for an audience of children (aged 6+) and their families… but without the rude bits! It’s just like a normal comedy club, but it’s on in the day and kids are allowed in! 2pm (door 1.30pm) 17 October Brighton Run2Music Brighton*, Madeira Drive. 5K, 10K and Half Marathon route starting from the same iconic spot under the arches of Madeira Drive. The 3-8 years old can join in the Scootathlon: scoot, bike, run on Saturday morning, register online.
