winery

Andante Vineyard flourishes in the heart of the Willamette Valley, just west of Salem. Our 42-acre property includes the estate vineyard planted with pinot noir, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, gamay, aligoté, and marsanne vines. Andante wines are made in our estate winery, surrounded by vines thriving on marine sedimentary soil. Pacific breezes flowing through the Van Duzer Corridor let our grapes ripen in summer sunshine until they reach the optimum balance of fruitiness, acidity, and tannins. Guests in our tasting room receive friendly and knowledgeable wine service, as well as curated food pairings from our talented chef and kitchen staff.

We are a family-owned and operated vineyard and winery. Our founders are Joe Allan and Karen Saul, who are fortunate to work with a team of experienced people who share our values: to farm with care using sustainable methods, make artisanal, balanced wines in small lots that delight the senses and lift spirits, and offer warm hospitality and a place where guests can relax and enjoy gorgeous views in a calming atmosphere.

Our name, Andante, is a musical term: it is a walking pace tempo and that is how we try to live and work here. It allows us to be intentional and concentrate on how to provide the best wine, food, and overall experience to our guests. We chose the image of a great egret as our logo to emphasize our stewardship of the land we farm and celebrate the awesome resilience of nature.

We invite you to visit us in our new tasting room this summer. We also seat guests on our beautiful patio with breathtaking views of rolling farmland, a sky full of birds, the coastal range to the west, and the Eola-Amity Hills to the east. We are open by reservation to ensure that everyone enjoys the best possible experience each time they come.

tasting notes

2016 Andante Vineyard Estate Pinot Noir

This wine has a deep ruby hue that dances in the glass. Rich black cherry notes are interwoven with hints of vanilla, cigar tobacco, cola, and cedar which imbue the nose with fruit and spice. The palate is languid with bright strawberry, cedar, and allspice.

2020 Andante Vineyard Aligoté

This wine is brilliant gold in color with notes of white citrus flower, allspice, sugar cookie, and lemon zest. The approach is bright and the palate bursts with kumquat, mandarin, and white peach. The finish is long and round with hints of stone fruit and triple-sec.

2020 Andante Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc

Reminiscent of the tropics, don’t let this wine’s pale straw color fool you. The approach is vibrant with aromas of passion fruit, lemon zest, and honeydew melon. On the palette are hints of Meyer lemon and wet stones quickly followed by a bright and refreshing finish.

Björnson Vineyard is part of a scenic 107-acre farm, located in the heart of Oregon’s Willamette Valley. We are committed to generating renewable energy, farming sustainably, and making wine with minimal handling so that each bottle fully expresses our exceptional terroir.

Pattie and Mark met at the University of Minnesota in 1985. They married, raised four children, and worked in the Twin Cities until Mark was able to move his job to Oregon in 2005. Their plan was to spend weekends driving the countryside in search of their dream—a vineyard site with forests and streams. Within months, they purchased a scenic 107-acre farm in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA and set to work. Since then, they have cleared and planted a 28-acre vineyard, built a winery, and produced award-winning wines. Their progress was made possible by taking viticulture and winemaking classes at Chemeketa Community College. Pattie also interned at Bethel Heights Vineyard, learning from Ben Casteel.

tasting notes

2019 Björnson Vineyard Magnus Pinot Noir

The grapes for this wine come from our 28-acre Björnson Estate Vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA. The vineyard is situated on a primarily southwest aspect at an elevation ranging between 450’-550’ with predominantly rocky Nekia volcanic soils. The wine is a seven-barrel selection named in honor of Mark’s grandfather, Magnus: a loving husband, respected businessman, and fair-minded civic and political leader. His namesake brings strength and leadership to our lineup of wines.

2020 Björnson Vineyard Reserve Chardonnay

The grapes for this wine come from our 28-acre Björnson Estate Vineyard in the Eola Amity Hills AVA. The vineyard is situated on a primarily southwest aspect at an elevation ranging between 450’-550’ with predominantly rocky Nekia volcanic soils. This is 100% chardonnay, Dijon 76 clone, from Claire’s block. The 2019 vintage chardonnay was harvested at two different maturity levels to add to the complexity of the final blend. The Wine is a traditional, pure expression of the chardonnay grape in Oregon. Fermentation and sur-lee aging took place in oak barrels with complete malo-lactic conversion for a traditional character. With only 23.8% new oak and meticulous topping, this chardonnay is not buttery or overly oaky, but is focused on the varietal’s complexity.

winery

Perched high on the western crest of the Eola-Amity Hills near Salem, Oregon, Bryn Mawr, Welsh for “High Hill,” pushes the upper limits of Willamette Valley viticulture. Carefully tended vines express the marriage of powerful maritime evening winds and fractured volcanic soils, yielding grapes with bountiful natural acidity and profound complexity. This fruit inspires us to craft transparent wines that tell the story of time and place. Jon and Kathy Lauer discovered wine soon after meeting each other in 1986. They quickly developed a powerful appreciation for the deep history and culture of the wine industry, dreaming for decades of one day creating a thriving vineyard and winery. That became a reality when they found a small parcel of grapes and a basement winery named Bryn Mawr. They immediately set to work transforming the property with a promising young winemaker named Rachel Rose. Rachel came to the Lauers through a stroke of lucky coincidence, but she quickly established herself as the central pillar of what makes us tick. She took the reins of all vineyard and winemaking operations from day one, living on site for the first six years of operations and devoting endless love and energy to the process. From humble beginnings we have expanded into one of the Eola-Amity Hills’ premier destination wineries, building impressive new facilities and nursing our young vineyard into its full potential. Though pinot noir and chardonnay continue to be our foundation, Rachel has continued to push boundaries with experimental varietals and techniques, proving one can honor the valley’s legacy while mapping out its future. Bryn Mawr aims to bridge the classic traditions of winemaking with modern and sound approaches, bringing art and science together to tell the story of our vineyard through dynamic and energetic wines. We are honored to be a part of Uncorked’s glorious return and we sincerely thank Family Building Blocks for trusting us as the host of such an important fundraiser.

2018 Bryn Mawr Vineyards Estate Pinot Noir

The Estate Pinot Noir is a blend of wines from each of our soil types and spans the full elevational range of our Estate vineyard, it includes every clone and every block of pinot noir we have. Our site has a bold, expressive, and unique flavor profile. Is it the volcanic soils, the strong winds, or the farming itself that builds the strong character? We think it is all of those things and more. Each vintage is a unique snapshot of our vineyard’s development. In a sense it is a geographical time capsule. Lucky for us it can be conveyed by way of liquid joy. The 2018 Estate Pinot Noir is bombastic—a perfectly concentrated capture of the dry, windy season in which these grapes grew.

2019 Bryn Mawr Vineyards Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

For over seven years we have worked closely with fellow grape grower, Jeff Havlin, and his Fender’s Rest Vineyard. In addition to his lively antics and dry sarcasm, Jeff has provided us with grapes that display dark and rich characteristics while duplicitously showing bountiful natural acidity. Then, in 2018, we began managing a small vineyard just down the road from our winery called Stand Sure Vineyard which brings a lighter earthier note to the table. We combine the spice, minerality, and structure of our Eola-Amity Hills Bryn Mawr Estate to create the Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, a fantastic expression of the typicity often seen in our cool, breezy section of the valley.

2020 Bryn Mawr Vineyards Willamette Valley Chardonnay

Our Willamette Valley Chardonnay is bottled each spring following harvest. This wine is made to showcase the vibrancy and elegance of chardonnay grown in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. The 2020 wine harvest was full of challenges as we had to contend with a pandemic, forest fires, and excruciatingly low yields. However, we were graced with what was truly the vintage of the decade in terms of fruit quality. Our 2020 vintage whites, pinks, and sparkling wines are pristine, dense, and intensely perfumed.

winery

Iterum Wines was founded in 2019 by winemaker, Joe Dobbes, and wife, Patricia Dobbes. While Joe started his career in the wine industry in 1985 in Germany, this new wine project represents a full circle winemaking story and celebrates the crescendo of Joe’s lengthy career in the Willamette Valley wine industry since 1986.

In 2017, Joe found himself ready for a reset and stepped back from his original wine project, Dobbes Family Estate and Wine by Joe. He took a two-years hiatus from winemaking, tasted through his peers’ wines, and revisited his own wine portfolio dating back to the start of his career. After reflecting on more than three decades in the industry, it became clear to Joe that it was time to come full circle and start small again. In 2018, Joe and his wife, Patricia, and purchased their dream property: Orchard House Vineyard west of Salem, OR. The organically farmed 21-acre estate, located on the west slope of the Eola-Amity Hills AVA, is now home to their new project: Iterum Wines.

The Latin word, Iterum, translates to again, afresh, or once more. Joe’s purpose behind making wine, once more, is to get back to his roots. He is just where he wants to be—back in the vineyard kicking the dirt, farming, creating, experimenting, and rejuvenated. Joe has emerged with a hyper-focused vision to make the most exciting wines of his life.

The Iterum Wines portfolio includes estate pinot noir, chardonnay, sauvignon blanc, and méthode traditionnelle sparkling wines. Also included in the portfolio are a handful of special, limited bottlings named, ‘Old Friends,’ from truly exceptional vineyards, varietals, and clones Joe has worked with over the years, now reappearing in his cellar.

tasting notes

2019 Iterum Wines Clone 114 Orchard House Vineyard Pinot Noir

“A blue-to-black fruited expression.” The dark and plush counter to the Clone 115 pinot noir is this opulent and showy Clone 114. Clonal variation is displayed here with aromas of blue and black fruits; black cherry, Marionberry, bramble, pipe tobacco, cinnamon, and wet earth. The flavors mirror the aroma with rich and mouth-filling full-flavored intensity. The plush mouthfeel is built upon ripe, mature, and soft grape tannins. Fermented with 15% whole grape clusters, native, indigenous yeast from the vineyard, and bottled without fining or filtration.

2019 Iterum Wines Clone 115 Orchard House Vineyard Pinot Noir

“A red-fruited expression.” Crafted from Clone 115 pinot noir, this is a textbook example of what makes Oregon pinot noir world class, and a truly special example of Willamette Valley finesse. Bright and copious aromas of red fruit, raspberry, strawberry, and cherry intermingle with allspice, sweet pipe tobacco, and red licorice. The flavors mirror the aromas with added flavors of earthy forest floor, and sweet ripe fruit tannins. The flavors are intermingled and well-balanced with sweet spices and a hint of toast influence from the 35% new French oak barrel aging. Fermented with 15% whole grape clusters, native, indigenous yeast from the vineyard, and bottled without fining or filtration.

2019 Iterum Wines Orchard House Vineyard Chardonnay

“An exceptional Willamette Valley expression.” This inaugural vintage of chardonnay is crafted from Iterum’s home estate, Orchard House Vineyard in the Eola-Amity Hills AVA. Chardonnay clones 548 and 76 were planted in 2016 at 550 feet elevation facing southwest to the coastal Van Duzer Corridor winds. This chardonnay hits all three of Joe’s chardonnay objectives: intense aromatics, great mouth texture, and bright, fresh acidity. The wine illustrates aromas of baked pear, Granny-Smith apple, lemon meringue, cinnamon, clove, honeysuckle, and sweet cream. The flavors mirror the aromas intermingled with lime rind and barrel spices from 35% new acacia, and French oak barrels. The mouth is richly textured and framed within a crisp and vibrant acidity. Fermented with native, indigenous yeast from the vineyard.

2021 Iterum Wines ‘Old Friend’ Oak Grove Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc

“An exceptional statement of the varietal.” Joe first worked with Oak Grove Vineyard sauvignon blanc in 1989 at Eola-Hills Wine Cellars when he shared a vintage with Winemaker Ken Wright. Joe loved the wine he crafted from this vineyard. He always remembered it as something exceptional and a varietal that he stated, “Will one day be recognized as world class within the Willamette Valley.” Fast forward 32 years and Joe has re-connected with the same vineyard, but now under the Iterum Wines moniker, ‘Old Friend’. The 2021 ‘Old Friend’ Oak Grove Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc is highly aromatic with aromas of white blossoms, honey, white grapefruit, lychee, pineapple, melon, wet stone, and citrus rind with flavors mirroring the aroma. The mouth is uniquely and simultaneously rich and lean, full of flavor, and balanced with bright acidity and layers of complexity from new acacia barrels.

winery

Family-owned and operated, Left Coast Estate is guided by two essential principles: a passion for winemaking and a deep connection to the land where we live and farm. Founded in 2003, we completed the initial phase of the winery just in time for the inaugural 2004 vintage of our label bearing a Lewis and Clark map to illustrate our special place in the world. We are in the middle of the Willamette Valley, just 37 miles from the Pacific Ocean with the immense, cooling benefit of the Van Duzer Corridor running through the property. In the seventeen years since our beginnings, we have gone from a grape growing operation with long term contracts with fellow Oregon producers and a wonderful opportunity to establish the high quality of our fruit, to an all-estate commitment. We farm nearly 160 acres of vines on our 500-acre estate, largely sedimentary soil laid down by the Missoula floods and some volcanic soil as well. We grow and meticulously tend our vines and grapes and handcraft our wines and bottle them on site—a fusion of art and science and, most certainly, a labor of love.

We take a holistic approach to everything at Left Coast Estate, sustainability being at the core of all we do. We received the largest USDA grant in Oregon in 2008 to go solar, and the vast majority of our estate’s electrical needs are supplied by the ground and roof mounted solar arrays. Our winery and vineyards are LIVE certified, Salmon Safe, and we were one of just six producers that went to a third party verification in the initial Carbon Neutral Challenge, originally under the aegis of the Governor’s Office, now folded into LIVE as a Carbon Reduction program.

2016 Left Coast Estate Brut Rosé of Pinot Meunier

This beautiful sparkling brut rosé is produced methodé traditionelle. Made of 100% pinot meunier, it shows the versatility of this grape variety with notes of jasmine, honeysuckle, and orange blossom. It pairs perfectly with eggs benedict at brunch!

2017 Left Coast Estate J. Wright Chehalem Pinot Noir

A private label created by our winemaker and viticulture director, Joe Wright, this wine features fruit sourced from the Chehalem Mountains. With bright fruit of blackberries and cherry with a distinct earthiness and notes of black tea, this bottle of pinot noir can spend time on the shelf or enjoyed now. Accessible on its own and versatile across the board with pairings, we love to enjoy J. Wright Pinot with a mid-trail snack of assorted meats and cheeses.

2018 Left Coast Estate Field of Dreams Viognier

Amazing on it’s own and a great partner for co-fermentation with our syrah, our viognier is characterized by 35% concrete fermentation and 65% French oak for 10 months. The palate offers fresh acidity with lingering pear, lychee, and a generous minerality on the finish.

2020 Left Coast Estate White Pinot Noir

Over the course of the last few years, our white pinot noir has become a household staple for many. Surpassing production of all of our red wines, it is fermented in stainless steel with about 20% going through malolactic fermentation. Offering a crisp white wine with flavor blasts of kiwi, lemon peel, and floral notes, it is guaranteed to win over any white wine lover.

tasting notes

2017 Chemistry Willamette Valley Pinot Noir

The 2017 vintage was stellar, producing well-balanced, elegant wines. The Chemistry Pinot Noir is no exception. Sourced from premier sites in the Willamette Valley, this wine is bright garnet in color thanks to the warm vintage. Aromatics of plum and blueberry lead to a lush and juicy palate with silky tannins that build to a structured finish. Enjoyable in its youth, this pinot noir is the perfect companion while making dinner.

2018 Chehalem Winery INOX Chardonnay

Our 2018 INOX Chardonnay reflects the diversity of the varietal. Sourced from two of our estate vineyards, INOX is bright and rich. Aromatics of white nectarine and lemon meringue, with hints of delicate flowers fill the glass. The palate is vibrant, driven by citrus fruits and a soft minerality, which leads to a round finish. The 2018 vintage was magic.

2021 Stoller Family Estate Willamette Valley Pinot Noir Rosé

A cornerstone of our production for more than a decade, we intentionally harvest a mélange of pinot clones that are then whole cluster pressed and fermented in stainless steel to achieve a balanced and bright style. Aromas of pomelo, Hood strawberry, and white nectarine leap out of the glass, almost obscuring more bashful undertones of wet stone and uncut grass. The palate is taut with initial juicy citrus flavors that give way to notes of dried flowers and a lingering hint of white tea and lime pith on the finish.

Chemistry Willamette Valley Pinot Noir Rosé Bubbles

Sweet aromatics of Bubblicious watermelon fill the glass with hints of peaches and cream as you pull away. The palate is dry, juicy, and vibrant, making for an unexpected delight and showing flavors of watermelon and tart strawberry. There’s a richness that fills out the mid palate with flavors of watermelon and tart strawberry. You’ll be begging for another sip!

tasting notes

2017 Willamette Valley Vineyards Bernau Estate Brut Rosé

This inaugural vintage is crafted using méthode traditionnelle and sourced from estate-grown pinot noir. The wine was aged for seven months in neutral barrel and stainless steel, then aged 23 months on its lees to develop added complexity before being disgorged. Enjoy this fresh and elegant sparkling rosé with radiant salmon color, fine and persistent mousse, and subtle aromas of apricot, peach, strawberry and vanilla. Evolving to red fruit and citrus notes on the palate, the wine offers a creamy texture, elegant structure, persistent length, and balancing acidity for a zesty finish.

2018 Willamette Valley Vineyards Griffin Creek Cabernet Sauvignon

For more than two decades we have been working with the Moore family, dedicated growers crafting the highest-quality wines from their Rogue Valley vineyards since 1996. With temperatures similar to France’s Bordeaux or Rhône regions, this area is an emerging Oregon region. Boysenberry, currant, cassis, and vanilla emerge on the highly perfumed nose and elegantly lead to a palate filled with dark fruit flavors and baking spices. Full-bodied, bright and balanced, the tannins are fine grained and integrated, all creating a smooth, graceful sip.

2019 Willamette Valley Vineyards Tualatin Estate Pinot Noir

Planted in 1973 by Oregon wine pioneer Bill Fuller, Tualatin Estate Vineyard rests in the foothills of the Oregon Coast range and is one of the oldest plantings in Oregon, and is now in the newly approved Tualatin Hills AVA. The unique Laurelwood soil profile at the Tualatin Estate Vineyard contributes to the complex nature of the wines. Red garnet with a crimson hue illuminates from this floral, expressive wine. The bouquet is a mix of lavender, hibiscus, and roses that have fruits of strawberries and raspberries. Spices of nutmeg and cinnamon provide a warm mid palate that folds into a damp forest floor, showing off pinot noir’s allure.

brewery

Gilgamesh Brewing is owned and operated by the Radtke family in Salem, Oregon. After years of home-brewing, the Radtke brothers, Mike, Nick, Matt, and their father, Lee, decided to turn their shared hobby into a family business. They took home the People’s Choice Award for their flagship ale, Mamba, at three consecutive Oregon beer festivals. Together, they made the leap and turned a section of Lee’s woodworking shop into a small seven-barrel production facility in the woods of Turner, Oregon. After three years in Turner, Gilgamesh Brewing outgrew the 600-square-foot facility and moved into their current location, a 2.5-acre spot in southeast Salem named The Campus. The Campus includes a large event yard, a high-efficiency production brewery, and a full restaurant with a patio adjacent to Pringle Creek. The highefficiency brewhouse reduces energy, water, raw ingredients, and labor to provide a more sustainable product. The brewhouse also gives the brewers freedom to create new and unique beers to keep their customers on their toes. In the summer of 2019, Gilgamesh Brewing will open its second location in West Salem, aptly named The Woods. As with The Campus, The Woods location features stunning woodwork including tables and a 45-foot wrap-around bar, sustainably harvested and hand-milled at the Radtke family property. The Woods is a full-service restaurant with a large year-round patio. Gilgamesh Brewing creates a plethora of unique beers. Their flagship beers include the wildly popular Mamba, DJ Jazzy Heff, Oedipus IPA, Hazy IPA, Terry Porter, Classic Lager, and Doug FIRocious Double IPA. Find them on draft at your favorite watering hole or in 12-ounce six-pack cans throughout Oregon, Washington, and as far west as Japan.
