What’s On

Abingdon Prep School

It’s been a really exciting start to the new year. Our building project, which will see the creation of a state-of-the-art music school, second science lab and purposebuilt spaces for our CDT provision, as well as four additional classrooms, is making steady progress, remaining on schedule for completion by Summer 2023. It has been wonderful to see our children take full advantage of the 100 or so wide-ranging activities on offer within our enviable ‘other half’ programme – for whilst we remain rightly proud of our high academic standards, we also place great value on the extracurricular. This means that when children leave Abingdon Prep, they do so as wellrounded individuals, ready for the next step and beyond.

Chandlings Prep School

Would your children like to ride a pony to start the day? Or visit the vegetable garden to learn about where food comes from? Chandlings Prep School boys and girls (aged 2 – 11) discover that learning happens everywhere, not just in the classroom.

They can learn team-building on the bluebell wood rope course, walk pygmy goats, and be creative in the food tech and DT rooms, mini amphitheatre and music suite.

Whatever they do, results show that children are happy here, with 100% of our leavers (2021) getting into their first choice of highly acclaimed secondary schools.

Come to our Early Years Spring Open Morning and experience what Chandlings children get up to including hunting for Easter Eggs in the Nursery Woodland and planting magic seeds in the Lavender Courtyard.

Early Years Open Morning - Friday 25th March 09.30-11.30. Please book via our website or call Catriona Pitt, our admissions registrar on 01865 730771.

Dragon School

Dragon School has been at the forefront of Prep education since it was founded in 1877. A new Head, Emma Goldsmith, joined in September and is looking forward to this next chapter in the School’s history.

The nurturing Pre-Prep, where curiosity and creativity are fostered in the youngest Dragons, is in the heart of Summertown. The Prep has an idyllic setting just a short walk from the centre of Oxford, with playing fields rolling down to the River Cherwell.

Saturday mornings have been transformed as an exciting enrichment programme, Dragon QUEST. Children learn new skills, broaden their horizons and dare to try new things. The choice of activities ranges from bike mechanics to cultural walks in Oxford. This holistic approach to education has proved incredibly popular with children, staff and parents alike.

Means tested, transformational bursaries are offered to Year 4 children with the potential to make the most of the opportunities on offer and can cover up to 100% of fees. Open Morning - 19 March

The Manor Preparatory School ‘To challenge, cherish and inspire’ Situated in Abingdon, the Manor Preparatory School is an independent co-educational day school that welcomes children aged 2-11.

The school has a wonderfully happy, creative atmosphere where every individual is valued and nurtured to reach their potential. The Manor’s most recent ISI Inspection saw the school receive the highest possible rating of ‘Excellent’ in all areas. Inspectors commented that “Pupils approach every day with an overwhelming passion to learn and develop.”

This is in part due to the exceptionally caring and invigorating tone of the school, where laughter is an essential part of the school day. Children’s personal development is further strengthened by staff who act as excellent role models. Every child is encouraged to push themselves to new challenges and fulfil their potential, resulting in outstanding results academically, on the sports field, and in the creative and performing arts.
