Kinneil Museum, in fro Kinneil House, is no nt of rmally open every day (except Tuesdays) from 12.30 p.m. to 4 p.m . (plus some additional times to tie in with House open events ). The museum features interactive ex an audio visual show hibits and . is open throughout The museum the year and admission is free of charge.

Last admission to the House is 30 minutes before the closing times above.

Kinneil Estate 2000 Years Of History

Discover 2000 years of history in the magical Kinneil Estate, on the western edge of Bo’ness, near Edinburgh. The name Kinneil means “Wall’s End” - and the eastern end of the turf and stone Antonine Wall, the Roman Empire’s northern frontier, runs through the estate.

There’s even a Roman fortlet to visit (pictured above).

For centuries Kinneil was the home of the Dukes of Hamilton. Their imposing former mansion, Kinneil House, dates back to the 15th century and features impressive Renaissance wall paintings, said to be among the finest in Scotland. See inside during free open days. The surrounding park features the remains of Kinneil’s Medieval church and graveyard, dating back to the 12th century. You can also visit the cottage where inventor James Watt worked to develop an improved steam engine. Plus there are extensive woodland walks to enjoy.

The story of the estate and much more is told in Kinneil Museum, open throughout the year, normally every day (except Tuesdays) from 12.30 pm to 4 pm. Admission is free. For more information call 01506 778530.
