Challenging the

traditional

school model I feel deeply privileged to lead and serve the vibrant community of Faith Lutheran College, which I have been part of for the past 16 years. Faith is more than a place of learning; it is a community where people are known, valued and supported, and where each learner, each family, and each relationship truly matters. The worth, dignity, and potential of every member of Team Faith are central to who we are. Our College vision – awakening potential and empowering learners for purposeful lives through Christ – shapes everything we do. At Faith, education is not simply about academic achievement, but about helping young people discover who they are, how they are uniquely gifted, and how they can contribute meaningfully to the world around them. We are a flourishing, contemporary secondary learning environment, with the exciting growth of a primary school on the horizon, offering continuity of learning and a welcoming community for families. Faith is underpinned by a strong sense of grace, belonging, and connection. God’s love is lived out daily through an incredibly committed team of staff who walk alongside students, supporting them to know, develop and share their God-given potential. We believe meaningful education occurs when learners are known personally, challenged thoughtfully, and supported relationally. As both an educator and a parent, I understand the trust families place in a school. This responsibility drives the collective effort of all staff at Faith to ensure we provide the most meaningful outcomes for young people, both inside and beyond the classroom, that are relevant to them now and into the future. Choosing a school is about more than pathways and programs; it is about finding

I warmly invite you to experience Faith Lutheran College and discover a community that is grounded in faith, grows good people, values relationships, and empowers learners for purposeful lives through Christ. WE DO THINGS

differently AROUND HERE.

We’re all familiar with the traditional structure of school – we start in the primary years, beginning with Prep.

Foundation Phase

We transition to secondary school in Year 7 and continue climbing through the year levels until we finish Year 12.

• Years 7 and 8

This structure has been around for more than a century. In fact, it was developed during the industrial revolution…and aside from the introduction of new technologies, not much has changed along the way.

• All teachers remain in their cohort

At Faith, we’re challenging the traditional school model. One of the ways we’re doing that is through shifting towards educational phases rather than year levels.

Here’s an overview of how each phase works Our phase model provides flexibility to ensure students are able to access the learning they need and desire. Students who excel in particular areas can accelerate their learning. For example, we have students in Year 8 who are studying Year 10 Mathematics. Alternatively, students in Graduate years can study Exploration Phase subjects in some circumstances. This freedom of choice and student agency is designed to empower our learners, rather than forcing them to fit in the same predetermined box as everyone else. 2

• Agile learning spaces • Dedicated teaching and wellbeing leaders • Focus on literacy, numeracy, projects and design thinking

Exploration Phase • Years 9 and 10 • Maths, Science, English, Humanities and Physical Education are the only compulsory subjects • Students have freedom of choice with other subjects • Courses, not subjects • Cross curricular courses

Graduate Phase

Students can move between Exploration and Graduate Phase offerings according to their educational requirements.

• Years 11 and 12

• General and Applied subjects • ATAR

• Early acceptance to university • Apprenticeships, traineeships, school-based training

• Project Based Learning time can be used for extra study

Our Vision

“

Awakening potential and empowering learners for purposeful lives through Christ.

Our College vision underpins everything we do at Faith. This vision is why we’re challenging the traditional school model because we believe that our students deserve better than what the current education system offers them. The outcome of the vision will look different for each student at Faith.

”

What does our Vision look like in action? It’s easy to wonder what the vision actually looks like in day-to-day life at Faith. After all, most schools have a catchy tagline that doesn’t always translate to real life. Here are just some of the ways that we live and breathe the College vision at Faith: • Educational phases rather than a year level focus. • Fluidity across phases - students in the Exploration Phase (Years 9 & 10) can study Graduate Phase (Years 11 & 12) subjects if they are ready. • Student agency and choice - our students deserve a say in their education.

For some, awakening their potential and empowering them as learners may mean supporting them to achieve a top ATAR score. For others, it may mean finding early employment. Along the way, it’s our goal to ensure students are engaged in their learning, have agency and choice, and feel supported to follow their dreams.

4

• More than 90 subjects in the Exploration Phase so students can, as the name suggests, explore their interests and be more engaged in their learning. • A simplified timetable that’s designed to enable movement across different phases. • Project Based Learning (PBL) is offered to foster a love of learning and real-world skill development.

Why schools need to

change

Traditional schooling works well for some students. For others, it doesn’t. In schools, we often see students who move through their days disengaged, simply going through the motions. We see students whose favourite parts of school are not learning, but friends, lunchtime, and home time. And most concerning of all, we see students for whom school actively damages confidence, erodes self-esteem, and leaves them feeling as though they are not good enough. That reality demands change.

At Faith Lutheran College, we believe school should be a place where every young person is known, valued, and given the opportunity to thrive - not just academically, but personally, socially, and spiritually. We offer strong traditional academic pathways for students who flourish in that environment, with opportunities to accelerate in areas of strength. At the same time, we provide diverse and flexible learning experiences designed to engage students with different interests, abilities, and ways of learning. Faith Prospectus

Learning at Faith is intentionally designed to be inspiring, engaging, and relevant. Crosscurricular courses in Years 9 and 10 bring together multiple subject areas around meaningful, realworld themes, creating learning experiences students genuinely want to be part of. Our vision is simple and bold: to awaken potential and empower learners for purposeful lives through Christ. As a College community, we are committed to continuing to explore, evolve, and innovate - so that school serves not just some students, but all. 5

Firm Foundations Faith’s Foundation Phase sets strong educational foundations that will support students well beyond their secondary schooling. Students who enter Foundation Phase (Years 7 and 8) at Faith get the best of both primary and secondary schooling. Starting at a new school and finding your way around a new campus can be daunting for Year 7 students at any secondary school. We have a dedicated Year 7 building where students will complete the majority of their lessons. To assist students and staff to develop strong relationships – the basis of a successful student-teacher partnership – we have a dedicated Year 7 teaching team, with a variety of specialist expertise. The Year 7 teaching team, led by a Head of Learning and a Head of Wellbeing, provide a safe space for our students to grow in confidence in their early high school years. This format of dedicated learning areas and teaching team is replicated in Year 8. The emphasis in these important years is on literacy and numeracy, providing strong foundations and the necessary skills students will need as they progress into the Exploration and Graduate Phases. There’s also a focus on Project Based Learning (PBL) and design thinking, providing students with meaningful and engaging learning right from the very start of their journey.

An Era of Exploration When students enter Exploration Phase (Years 9 and 10), that’s when the fun really begins!

All the traditional subjects are there for the students who choose a conventional pathway.

Our talented educators at Faith have thoroughly reviewed the Australian Curriculum to determine how to provide an exciting, meaningful, and robust curriculum that not only meets, but exceeds educational standards.

Then we have a range of innovative crosscurricular courses that have been written by our teachers and meticulously mapped to the Australian curriculum.

The result? We have more than 90 courses for students in the Exploration Phase to choose from.

“

My name is Banele and my favourite subject is

Game of Life. It’s a course for Year 9 and 10 students that helps us with real life problems – we’ve learnt things that many adults didn’t learn when they were in school. When you tell them about it, they say they wish they had a subject like that when they were teenagers. Game of Life is a subject that you can forever look back on and use in everyday life. The focus is to understand what money is, how it works, how to look after it, and make more of it.

8

We’ve seen a surge in engagement from our Exploration Phase students since the introduction of these courses. But don’t take our word for it, see below and on the following pages for what our students have to say about their favourite Exploration Phase subjects…

From studying Game of Life, I believe that anyone can become financially free - it just starts with the drive to learn the right financial literacy. One thing I’ve learned is that just as we understand English and speak it, money has its own language. If you understand that, you can understand how to make it, and most importantly, how to make it work for you. I think this a subject that anyone interested in the world of money and finances should take. Our teacher is amazing - she is extremely smart in the financial field and loves to have chats about anything related to the subject. Some people may look at Game of Life and think it might be hard or boring, but once you start, you’ll wish you had started earlier.

Graduate Phase

Discovery Phase

Students in Discovery will benefit from:

Faith Primary will open in 2027, welcoming students into our Discovery Phase (Years 5 and 6).

• Flexible, modern learning spaces designed for collaboration and curiosity

For families considering Faith for high school, this is more than an early start - it’s a powerful advantage.

• Extensive wellbeing support and pastoral care

As our Primary School grows, the majority of students will naturally progress into Year 7. This means places in Year 7 will become increasingly competitive in future years.

• Leadership opportunities that help students find their voice and develop responsibility • Year 5 Camp (Emu Gully) – included in school fees

Enrolling in Years 5 and 6 gives families the most secure pathway into Faith Secondary and the opportunity to become part of our community from the very beginning.

• Year 6 Camp to Sydney and Canberra – included in school fees

But this is not just about securing a place.

• Swimming lessons

Discovery Phase (Years 5 and 6) is designed to be a rich, engaging, and confidencebuilding experience that prepares students academically, socially, and emotionally for the years ahead.

• Regular access to specialist facilities including the gym, farm, and Performing Arts studio

• Intraschool and interschool sporting competitions

• Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) Just as importantly, students build strong relationships with staff, become familiar with the campus, and experience a carefully supported transition into high school. Curiosity Phase

Wonder Phase

For families considering Curiosity Phase, enrolling earlier means giving your child time to truly belong.

Starting in Wonder Phase gives children the gift of a gentle, joyful beginning to their schooling journey.

From their first day, students begin building strong relationships with teachers and peers, developing confidence, and forming the learning habits that set them up for long-term success.

Early enrolment allows us to deeply know your child, understand how they learn, and support their development from the very start.

They grow with the school, move seamlessly into Discovery Phase (Years 5 and 6) and beyond, and benefit from continuity of learning, care, and community - rather than having to “catch up” later. Faith Prospectus

As Faith Primary grows, these students will move through each phase with familiarity, security, and confidence - laying strong foundations academically, socially, and emotionally for everything that follows.

Project Based Learning Learning for the love of it. Faith students are able to select a guided or personal project in an area of their interest during Project Based Learning (PBL) time. Based on design thinking principles, students utilise the Lutheran Education Australia model for Service Learning (Head, Heart and Hands) to propose solutions and create products that can benefit the local and wider College community. Our Projects program is aimed at producing students who are equipped with the essential skills necessary to become productive, well-informed members of the community with a passion for life and learning.

Foundation Phase students (Years 7 & 8) complete four guided projects of different themes, helping them to explore their interests and discover new concepts and ideas. Within these projects, students have choice in the scope and direction of their project. New Guided Projects are constantly being developed. Examples of past Guided Projects include: • Cooking for a Cause • Creative License

• Faith Adventure Club

• Students 4 Students: Primary School Visits

• The Birds, the Bees and the Butterflies

”Projects are designed to help students to develop a passion for life and learning.” Impact Projects Impact Projects provide our learners with the ability to choose projects that will have a positive impact on communities beyond Faith in the greater Lockyer Valley region. They are usually undertaken by students in Exploration Phase (Years 9 and 10). Examples of Impact Projects include: • Finding ways to clean our waterways • Creating sustainable outdoor playground equipment for a local primary school • Educating the community about social issues

FIND YOUR Faith Lutheran College is a Christ-centred learning community committed to awakening potential and empowering learners.

E R I F

Our Christian faith deeply informs what we do and why we do it. We believe that faith cannot be forced; instead, we create authentic, relational, and immersive opportunities for students to encounter the love and grace of Christ in ways that are meaningful to them. Our vision for Christian education and ministry is simple: to cultivate a school where students are known, loved, and encouraged to explore who they are in Christ. Whether through pastoral care, classroom experiences, or cocurricular opportunities, our goal is to nurture faith in a way that is real, relevant, and transformative.

• End-of-term events such as ‘Kick Off’ with large inflatable games and a Christian message. • Weekly chapels with contemporary worship songs, including games/ activities, and a relevant message to young people. • Service and social action groups – the Dirranbandi mission (helping organise school lessons and activities), Do It For Dolly (bullying and suicide awareness), Day for Daniel (child safety), ALWS Gifts of Grace (raising funds for those in need), ALWS Walk My Way (building empathy for others and raising funds), World’s Greatest Shave (cancer awareness), Sudsy Challenge (supporting the homeless) and leading chapel services at Peace Lutheran Primary School, Gatton.

Here are some of the ways we have embedded our Christian faith into life at Faith Lutheran College:

• Youth Alpha as an alternative to Chapel – contemporary videos that explain the Christian faith with opportunity for discussion.

• A ‘choose your own chapel’ once a term including mindfulness walk, painting, yarning circle, and worship ministry to name a few.

• FIRE youth ministry events – worship music, games/ activities, and student-led message.

Hear from a recent Graduate

“

Kiara Knopke graduated from Faith in 2023 with an ATAR of 90.70 and a perfect score in Literature. We asked the former College Captain what she’s doing now and how Faith prepared her for life after school...

Faith Lutheran College laid the foundation I needed to confidently take the next steps in my education and life, preparing me to navigate the challenges that come with both. The College provides a thriving community where students are encouraged to grow, connect, and thrive, fostering a sense of belonging which makes every challenge feel like an opportunity. One of the standout aspects of my time at Faith was the remarkable dedication of the staff and their work in helping all facets of the College flourish. The teachers are unwavering in their mentoring, always helping to shape students in their learning to achieve their best. Their consistent encouragement and constructive feedback allowed me to reach my fullest potential as a student. Their guidance didn’t only help me to improve; it taught me how to think critically, persevere, and develop strong study habits. These skills have been invaluable as I transition into university and navigate self-directed learning. Following school, I enrolled in university and have since completed my first year studying a Bachelor of Laws. In studying a degree that is demanding in content, I can confidently say that the experiences and support I received at Faith have been instrumental in my journey. To future students, my advice is this: enjoy your time at school and make the most of the incredible resources available to you. Your teachers are there to help you succeed – lean on their expertise, seek their guidance, and embrace their feedback. Working hard and approaching challenges with a growth mindset will set you up to succeed – not just at school, but also in the exciting steps that follow.

Apply early to avoid disappointment Families interested in enrolling their child or children at Faith Lutheran College, Plainland are encouraged to submit their application as soon as they have made the decision to enrol. Faith’s Director of Marketing, Bianca Coleborn, says each year the waitpool for Year 7 begins earlier than the previous year. “We have experienced an extraordinary amount of interest from families looking for a progressive and contemporary education for their children,” Mrs Coleborn said. “Each year we have disappointed families who left it too late to apply and have ended up in our waitpool,” she said. “The best advice we can give is to submit your child’s enrolment application as soon as possible.”

Mrs Coleborn encourages families to enrol at least two years in advance for peace of mind. “Leaving it until the year before your child starts is just too risky,” she said. “If you’ve decided that Faith is your first choice, don’t delay with submitting the application.” The application for enrolment form can be found at Faith’s website.
