FHAOI 2025 House Decorating Contest FHAOI

announced that we were holding the 2025 House Decorating Contest for Fairways with an insert in the December Eagle along with information on the weekly Facebook slides. The Board had the pleasure of sightseeing throughout the neighborhood on several different nights, and many neighbors really went all out! It made narrowing down to three choices rather difficult. With that in mind, we are also sharing a list of honorable mentions (or runners up) from the contest. The three winners who received a $50 Visa gift card each and a sign in their yard (just house addresses, no names as that wasn’t what it was about) were:

Something I want to bring to your attention - we rode around after dark to see all the homes, and we often had great difficulty seeing or even finding the house number. I mention this from a safety perspective as we know how often fire trucks and ambulances are called to Fairways. Please consider investing in house numbers that light up at night or at least are reflective and easily seen from the street. Happy New Year!

to meet with us in February and will let you know the date when it is confirmed. This is a good time to hear how they represent us (mobile home owners) in Tallahassee and more.
all she has done this last year as president of the FHAOI. She previously served as Communications Director on the Board. Cathy cares deeply for those in this community and has gone to great lengths to help many residents. Cathy decided to step down from the Board as her husband Jim is retiring early this year and they have plans! The Board and I wish Cathy and Jim many years of adventures as they enter this new stage of their lives. As your new president, I have a lot to learn. The Board and I want to work to bring more of the community together, welcoming new residents and inviting them to the many activities offered here at Fairways. For all our new residents it can be challenging to navigate all these activities. To do this, we need your help. We want to hear new ideas not just for entertainment options, but any ideas you may have that can help us achieve this goal. I will continue to meet with Priscilla at Hometown America and inform you of our discussions. I invited someone from the Florida Mobile Home Association

Let’s Ring in the New Year! 2026 is going to be a great year for the Fairways
Christian Women’s Connection (FCWC) with many ways to learn about our Lord. Our Praise and Prayer event is moving to the second Saturday of each month. Frank and Reenie Nix are hosting in their home at 11 am on January 10th. Their address is 1734 Inverary. Come enjoy a time of prayer and singing. Our evening study continues with the book of Galatians on Thursday, January 15th and 29th at the Greenbrier at 6:30 pm. The Daniel Prayer is a series that looks at the life of Daniel. Join the ladies as they gather at Jolynn’s home on Thursday, January 8th and 22nd at 3 pm. Address is 14721 Firestone. Our “Let’s Do Lunch” is a fun time of fellowship and food. Date is Tuesday, January 13th at noon at BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse. Located at 8285 Red Bug Lake Road. Meet at the Masters at 11:30 am for carpooling. We’re month we’re collecting men’s L, XL and XXL underwear this month for our outreach partner, Samaritan Resource Center. They do so much for the homeless in our area, and we can do our part when we collect needed items. Drop off box is at 14349 Augusta Road. All Fairways ladies are invited to join us at all our events. 2026 promises to be a Happy New Year for all Fairways residents
packed with “something for everyone” activities and events. “Hometown America promises to bring you a calendar full of opportunities, ranging from annual favorites as well as fun, new entertainment and service options,” the HTA social co-directors said. “We will also celebrate holidays with recognition of our Veterans and others.” All groups and individuals who use any indoor Hometown facilities during the
year must have one representative of their group attend a meeting on Monday, January 5 at 2 p.m. at the Masters. “It’s most important that all those who reserve the Masters rooms or the Greenbrier facility sign a Users Agreement,” Barb Mishloney, social codirector said. “Those clubs that require proof of insurance should provide those documents at least two weeks before the event.” On Friday, January 9 at the Masters, Walgreens will be providing a free RSV shot
for any residents needing the vaccination. For more information, please contact Judy Smegelski at 407-282-2826. For a relaxing evening with friends, all residents are invited to the Winter Wine and Cheese event on Sunday, January 11 from 2-8 p.m. at the Masters. and happy new year. We have been busy this last month filling an order for our Christmas Napkins. The order was for 12 sets and our group worked together to finish them for an on-time delivery. In the beginning of December, we donated 10 chemo hats to Libby’s Legacy. 19 pillowcase dresses were sewn and given to a group that was going on a mission trip. Thank you all for the donations of sewing machines, material, thread and laces that keep us busy and help us become creative with our designs If you have a donation you could stop by the Greenbrier any Wednesday between 8:30am and 11:00am to see what we are creating. We are always looking for new members to help with our tasks. If you don’t sew, that’s okay, we always appreciate help with ironing and cutting out items. uilding on the success of offering free delicious meals to Fairways residents for Thanksgiving, Sandy De Jesus and the ‘Team’ did it again for Christmas! Sandy de Jesus has spearheaded this initiative for three years and plans to build on it in 2026. “It’s been so heartening to see so many people want to be part of this,” Sandy said. “There are a brother and sister who live in Avalon Park and have a close friend who lives in Fairways, who have made the decision to help in Fairways whenever they can. They donated seven turkeys for Thanksgiving and for the Christmas meals donated dessert/cookie trays, rolls and more! “And Fairways residents have been amazing. We had donated cooked turkeys and sides for Thanksgiving and had brownies and pies and lots of other goodies for the Christmas meal drive. it was wonderful. The team cooked, assembled, labeled bags and delivered 160 meals to our residents. Every role mattered and it took a lot of organization to make it happen. There were some meals and desserts left, and we took those to Fire Station 80. They appreciated the goodies! “The Team was amazing and it was so wonderful to see some new volunteers joining us to make it happen. Thank you to everyone who helped. “Thank you to the FHAOI, who donated $150 for the Thanksgiving meals and gave us the same amount to help with Christmas. “ And a special thank you to Steve Buyea for taking the great photographs! We so appreciate you. I’ve included comments from Bonnie Buyea below – she has a wonderful way with words and summed it up so perfectly.” From Bonnie Buyea “For those receiving these meals, this is more than just a dinner. It is a reminder that they are remembered, valued and cared for – especially at a time of year that can feel lonely for many. The kindness shown brings warmth, dignity and joy into homes that might otherwise be quiet on Christmas Day. To Sandy, thank you for your leadership, dedication and commitment to keeping this meaningful tradition alive year after year. And to every volunteer who gives their time, energy and compassion – whether behind the scenes or at the doorstep – please know how deeply appreciated you are. Suggestions for the New Year that Don’t Involve Losing Weight And Exercising More Don’t get me wrong, eating well and being aware of your
weight and health are common sense, and yet there are more ways to help keep you well and happy. Learn Something New! Challenge your brain by taking up a new hobby or skill. For example, you could learn a musical instrument, study a foreign language, or master a craft. Learning new skills keeps your mind active and provides a sense of accomplishment and purpose. There are many opportunities right here in Fairways and the Orange County Library system online and the East Orange Community Center have some excellent resources. Be Social! Maintain and nurture your social connections. Even if you’re not naturally an outgoing person, make the effort and get out a little more! Or reach out via phone or social media to family and friends more often. Regular social interaction can help prevent cognitive decline and reduce the risk of depression. Join one of the many clubs here in Fairways or volunteer at one of the events here in the Park or for an organization you care about. You’ll find likeminded individuals and stay engaged. Stay Safe Online If you are online, learn about online safety and privacy measures to protect yourself from scams and fraud. Social media can be very fun and useful. Just ask for help if you’re not sure how to do certain things, or where to look for threats.

Rock n Roll Club Newsletter 2026

he 2026 Rock n Roll Club Board decided to continue the Clubs’ many traditions for 2026; Live Bands, Themed Dances, Dance on the fourth Saturday of every month, Share the Wealth at the Dance. Membership costs have changed due to the Club having to purchase Liability Insurance, and membership is now $10 per year. Tickets will remain the same at $5 for members but non-members will pay $8. The Rock n Roll Club will continue the Christmas Toy Drive to give Kids in East Orlando a happier Christmas, and we will continue to donate monthly to the St. Jude Research Hospital. We will also be dedicating the month of April to a Fund Raiser, selling Share the Wealth tickets at the mailboxes every Tuesday from 3 to 6pm. Drawing will be at the April Dance where the Clubs Share of $$$’s will be donated to St. Jude. You will not need to be present at the Dance in April to win and prizes will be up to $100. We will also be taking cash donations every Tuesday and at the Dance. This past year 2025 the Club raised $2,240 for St. Judes and raised $1,000 in cash plus collected 300 Toys at the Christmas Toy Drive. Thank you to our generous Members and Fairways Residents! December was our give back to our members with free tickets to the December Dance for all 2025 members and we also gave away over $1,100 in prizes to our 2025 club members. Planning for 2026! The Rock n `Roll Board for 2026 is Mike Scanlon – President, Eileen Burns – Vice President, Paul DeRoo Treasurer and Judy Michalski – Secretary One of our goals for 2025 was to increase the membership which we did, going from 193 to 210 members. We also increased the attendance at dances

in 2025 and the average for 2025 was 131 up from an average of 118 in 2024. A BIG THANK YOU to all our volunteers! Without their help the Rock n Roll Club would not be what it is today! Special Thanks to : Rosemary Wozencroft, Toni Reinhagen, Amy Keene, Bonnie Johnson, Vivian Scott, Mike Engelhardt, Letezia Morales, Edwin Ramos, Clair Carter, Tom Carter, Shirley Bernier, Fran Bernier, Adam Scheblein and Cathy Scheblein. We continue to bring live bands to the Masters Stage every month with a new theme. The January theme is ‘White Night’, and all attendees are asked to wearing white. The Black lights really set a Party Mood in the past and we’ve purchased even more black lights for even more FUN. February will be our Sweet Heart Dance. March is going to be Crazy Hat Night and April will be our first Sock Hop with St Judes the main focus for the entire month of April. In the months to come look forward to More Live Bands and More Exciting Themes. *PLEASE NOTE that at all Rock n Roll Club Dances, removing of Center Pieces and/or Tablecloths are NOT PERMITTED until the Band stops playing for the evening. The Board feels it is Disrespectful to the Band to start removing the decor while they are still performing. We have had issues in the past and have had to stop attendees from removing the decor, we have volunteers assigned to clean up after dances. If you’re not a member of the Rock n Roll Club and would like to become a member and enjoy all the Dances, Live Bands, New Themes; as well as Working to make Kids Lives a bit better in Eastern Orlando and our Country, you’ll have the opportunity on Ticket Tuesday or at the Dance to become a Member of Rock n Roll Club for JUST $10.

ATTENTION RIDERS: Courtesy van service is available to Hometown America Fairways residents who want to participate in adventures to area shopping centers. Each week, the van makes three runs: Tuesday to Publix; Wednesday to Winn Dixie and Friday open for Walmart, Aldis or another store upon request. “While that is the standard schedule, due to conflicts, days may change,” John Cutsinger, driver, said. “Riders are asked to make your reservation by Sunday to make sure seats can be confirmed, however you can call the day before to see is space is available.” The van is available at 10 a.m. at the Masters for loading. Veterans Corner
Happy New Year to all of Fairways From the Fairways Veterans Group
Another year has passed and in the Fairways Country Club community we celebrated and enjoyed many activities in 2025. We are thankful and grateful for the support that Fairways residents have given all of Fairways veterans and their families. As always, we were able to provide events and activities to bring the community together. In addition, a lot of valuable information was provided for Veterans. We couldn’t have done it without everyone’s support. We have events planned for 2026 at the Fairways. As always, we have scheduled dances for the months of February through April. •February - Remembering the Motown Era dance, •March – Country Music Night and •April – Disco Fever Night. - Exact dates are tentative until approved by HTA. • In October we will be having our Fourth Annual Breast

Cancer Awareness Dance. Due to the generosity and kindness of the entire Fairways Community, we were able to provide the Libby’s Legacy Breast Cancer Foundation a donation in the amount of $1,747.00. As always, all information on any future events will be announced in the Eagle, FB pages, TV Monitors and Nextdoor.
Remembering Veterans: This past year we collected over
200 Cards For Veterans. These Christmas cards were taken to and distributed between the VA Medical Center in Lake Baldwin and Lake Nona Assisted Living Facilities. This was a wonderful Act of Kindness, and we appreciate the support that was given to the veterans at the VA Medical Centers. In continuing to honor our veterans, we are still providing the opportunity to our veterans and families in honoring their loved ones. You can still purchase a brick to honor a veteran at a cost of $40.00. In addition, our Fairways veterans can receive a quilt free of charge presented by the Quilts of Valor Foundation (QOV), which is a non-profit organization. Commanders Thoughts:
Here in the Fairways Country Club, we are a very close community. We are not just residents or neighbors, we are a big family. We are very patriotic and we totally support veterans. In the month of January, we will be honoring one of our own veterans. There will be a Celebration of Life held for Edward “Ted” Holman. He was a Warrant Officer in the U.S. Navy and served in the “Submarine Force”. It will be held at the Masters Clubhouse on Saturday January 10th, starting at 1:00pm. We encourage all Fairways residents to attend.
