FHAOI Poker Run

Thank you to the volunteers for helping make the Sixth Annual Poker Run held on March 21st a great success. I would also like to thank those who agreed to have their home as a checkpoint for the card give away. They were as follows: Kim and Larry Hysong / Gary Moore, Ken Weber and Brian McCarthy/ Coleen Fraser with Becky Utegg and Beverly Benedetto/ Fran Ragsdale and Rosemary Wozencroft/ Toni and Keith Reinhagen, Cindy McGrath, Amy Keene and Pat Schezney. It was a great turn out with 82 participants and 24 volunteers. Looking at the photographs it’s clear that everyone had a great time, and the weather certainly cooperated.

The Eye Spy game had seventeen residents that guessed all fifteen song titles. We then put the names in a hat and drew out four names for the prizes.
The winners of the four gift cards were: Ernie Tucker, Phil Pirolo, Tammy Baumgardner and Ed Hux. We look forward to an even stronger turnout next year for the Seventh Annual FHAOI Poker Run!

Registration for the Reinhardt Fall Classic Golf Tournament and Gala Has Opened

The tournament will take place Saturday, November 7. Entry forms can be picked up on Wednesday nights from 5-7pm at the Masters Clubhouse. You can also turn in your completed Entry Forms at that time.

Hometown Events Recap
The annual Hometown Invitational was a blast! We had over 165 participants and beautiful weather to match. Residents enjoyed a fun day of golf followed by lunch and prizes—thank you to everyone who came out and made the event such a success.

Our pickleball players are so excited to play on the newly resurfaced pickleball and tennis courts
— they turned out beautifully! We’re happy we were able to complete this project in time for warmer weather and many more fun-filled pickleball tournaments.

To celebrate the arrival of Spring, Hometown America will host a Wine and Cheese evening on Sunday, April 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Masters.
“All residents are welcomed to join us for a relaxing evening with your Fairways neighbors,” social co-director Barb Mishloney said. “Bring a friend, a bottle of wine and a snack for the evening.”
Mothers, put Friday, May 8 from 1-3 p.m. in the Masters on your calendars for our second annual Mother’s Tea.
The final event of February “We Love Our Residents” brought out over 125 golfers for the Annual Hometown America Golf Invitational. After the tournament, golfers celebrated the winners.
Golfers celebrated the winners of the tournament: Lane Gotch, Les Barron, Jim Essiambre and Ed Hux.
Closest to the pin winners were Sue Morin for the women and Rich Paglia for the men.
Most Honest golfers were Doug and Ina James, Nancy Gallard and Brad Weeks.
With half of the proceeds from the Share the Wealth going to the Alzheimer’s cause, the other half was won by Frank Sears. Raffle winners included Bev Dushane, Jeff Bennett, Laura Mercado, Ralph Myers, Larry Hysong and David Gregg.

FWGA Update!

The FWGA Championship was held on March 2nd and 3rd. The weather was beautiful and the competition fierce. The Fairways Country Club Champion is Judie Gljiva. The Champion from the Gold is Diane Armstrong. Both ladies were presented with trophies. See attached photo. Following the tournament, Mary Dueble and Lucy Priolo served a delicious lunch consisting of various types of salad, croissants, cookies and drink. Thank you both for a job well done.
The weather is finally warming up and it is more pleasant to play golf. The next FWGA event is the Member Guest, which will be held on March 31, 2026. The results will be posted in the May paper.
The Snowbirds will be leaving us soon to return to their summer homes. We wish you all safe travels and a wonderful summer. We look forward to your return in the fall.
We have been informed that the cart paths from #1 to #6 will be repaired sometime this summer. We have also been told that a new hole cutter has been ordered and should eliminate the rise around the hole in the future. Both items are good news. Summer season will start the first of June with no formal meeting unless something important arises.
As we get into the summer months, remember to stay hydrated. As always hit them long and straight and have fun.
Fairways Sewing Group
Spring has arrived, bringing warmer days, bright sunshine, and the welcome feeling of renewal throughout our community. As neighbors step outside to enjoy the beauty of the season, the Fairways Sewing Group continues quietly doing what it does best, turning simple pieces of fabric into small acts of kindness that travel far beyond our neighborhood.
First, we extend our sincere thanks to the many residents and friends who have generously donated sewing machines, fabric, thread, and other sewing supplies. Your kindness has filled our sewing closet and, more importantly, has allowed us to keep our hands and hearts busy creating items for people who truly need them. Every spool of thread and every piece of fabric becomes part of something meaningful.
It has been a few months since our last update, and we are proud to share some of the ways your generosity has helped us serve others.
On January 15, our group delivered

handmade placemats to Meals on Wheels, bringing a small touch of warmth and color to the tables of those who receive their meals. Also in January, Libby’s Legacy received seven hand-crafted chemo hats, made with care and compassion for patients undergoing treatment. Each hat represents more than thread and yarn; it carries comfort, dignity, and the reminder that someone cares.
In February, Abby, one of our Fairways staff members, traveled to Peru on a mission trip, carrying with her 21 dresses lovingly made from pillowcases by our group. When she returned with photos of the children wearing them, the smiles said everything. Those simple dresses, stitched together here in Fairways, became gifts of joy for children thousands of miles away. The mission continues. She will return in April, and our sewing tables are already busy preparing more items for her to take and share with families there.

Line Dance 102.2 — Basic Line Dance Steps

When a person comes to our “FREE All The TIME” Tuesday afternoon fun line dance at 4pm, we start with the Electric Slide. This is because fewer basic steps are used. First there is the VINE. Now you can Vine left or right. In the Electric Slide you start with a right Vine, then you come back with a Vine left. Each step you take is to the beat of the music. Then you take three steps back - you then rock forward and back .. keeping those feet in place .. taking a hop with your left foot pivoting to the right .. coming down on your right foot.. that’s the sequence for the rest of the song/dance.
After a while you get into the step and rhythm of the song. You don’ t realize you are exercising and having fun. With everyone in sync with the ones around them, you create a beautiful thing. You may be thinking “What If I mess up?”
Well, that’s why we suggest you stand in the middle so you can recover and see the person in front and start again. This way we carry each other through the song. Every one of us, when we started messed up sometime. You will have some of us who have doing this for years -- have a “senior moment” during a song.
When I first started, I told myself, I can’t do this and remember all those steps. But like anything else in life -- it is about practice and patience. So come on out each week at the Master’s at 4pm on Tuesday for some free fun. You may even get a chance to dance to the Electric Slide.

fabric, guiding a needle, pressing a seam, can become a blessing when done with purpose. Some of us sew, others cut patterns, iron fabric, or help prepare materials. Every pair of hands plays a part in what we accomplish together. Just as important as the work is the fellowship we share. Laughter, stories, coffee, and encouragement are always part of the morning. Friendships grow along with the projects spread across our tables. We are always happy to welcome new members, new ideas, and anyone who simply wants to be part of something meaningful. You don’t have to be an expert seamstress, just someone who enjoys helping others. We meet every Wednesday from 8:30 to 11:00 a.m. in the Greenbrier, with a friendly coffee and treat break around 9:30.
If you are curious, stop by and see what we are creating. You may find that a simple stitch can carry kindness farther than you ever imagined. After all, sometimes the smallest pieces of fabric can help stitch together a little more hope in the world.

Looking for a New President

I, Mike Scanlon, am very distressed to announce my stepping down as President of the Rock n Roll Club.
Back in August 2025 I was hospitalized with pneumonia and two forms of sepsis for 11 days and at one point I thought I wasn’t going to make it.
I promised myself then, that if I got pneumonia again, I would step down. I have had pneumonia three times in less than two years and the Doctors at Advent Health said I need to adjust my lifestyle; no large crowds, no hugging, no kissing, no shaking hands, wear a mask and wash, wash, wash your hands.
The Rock n Roll Board and I will start taking applications for those interested in taking on the role of President, and you can call me if you’re interested in reviewing the job duties.
The Rock n Roll Club has been around for over 25 years and has showcased some of the top live bands in Orlando and traditionally, Rock n Roll has been a band not a DJ. The club also organizes the Christmas Toy Drive for needy children on the east side of Orlando and Sponsors St. Jude Research Hospital with a fundraiser that last year raised over $2,000.
The thought of all of this no longer being part of my life hurts my heart, but I need to take care of my own health.
The 2026 Rock n Roll calendar for 2026 is completely set up with Dates, Bands and Themes. I can and will set up the Dates, Bands and Themes for 2027, if need be, that is the easy part.
The job of president calls for someone who is retired and can give 100% of your time to the club. Having a spouse that can help with all the other little details that make up the Rock n Roll Club would be a big help. I don’t think anyone realizes all that goes into a monthly dance but it’s not for the faint of heart to say the least.
The biggest challenge is getting a call a week or two out from a dance and the band saying they must cancel their engagement. It happened more times than I would like to say but just this past February 2026 that very thing happened and while in the hospital I had to contact our bands and was able to book the band Jody and Mark. I know several of the members are not thrilled with them, but they have come to our rescue on more than one occasion over the years. The alternative would be to cancel the Dance.
Hopefully you have all enjoyed the Rock n Roll Club Dances and will continue to enjoy them in the future. It’s the Best Monthly Dance at Fairways and it’s still JUST $5, as it has been for as long as I have lived here and hopefully will continue.

2026 Bocce Ball Fun Day

The weather was great, the food was delicious and the bocce balls were rolling! Saturday, March 14th was a wonderful day for fun and fellowship. We had 80 players signed up to play and a total of 100 people attending and some of them also filled in to play.
Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a successful event. Cindy McGrath and Amy Keene for registration and scoring. Toni Reinhagen and Kim Barret for all the cooking and food management; Bob Holmes for providing the grill, Cricket O’Donnell for providing tables, Jim McGrath and Liz Perdue for the canopies, and Jim Wood for the coolers. Thank you to everyone who brought food – it was all delicious.
Players formed three-or four-person random draw teams, and each team played three games.
The Winning Team: Team 16 – with a score of 74: Jim McGrath, Robin Cohen, Phil Priolo, Jr., Rosemary Wozencroft.

And we were honored to celebrate the 92nd birthday of Phil Priolo. He is now the oldest player still playing and is going strong! Congratulations and Happy Birthday to Phil.
Fun Day has grown from 28 players six years ago to one hundred attending this year. Let’s keep the train rolling and we look forward to an even bigger turnout next year.

Summertime in Fairways: Welcoming Family

Summer is one of the most enjoyable times of year at Fairways Country Club. Many residents welcome children, grandchildren, and visiting friends who come to enjoy the sunshine, beautiful surroundings, and the many amenities our community offers. The laughter of family gatherings, poolside conversations, and friendly games on the courts all add to the vibrant spirit that makes Fairways such a special place to live.
As we welcome guests this season, it’s also important to remember that our shared facilities are designed for the enjoyment of all residents. A little extra awareness from hosts and visitors helps keep everything running smoothly and ensures that everyone can relax and enjoy the community.
Hosting Family and Visitors
Residents are always welcome to host family members and friends. We simply ask that residents take a moment to review community guidelines with their guests. Visitors should always be accompanied by a resident when using community facilities and should follow the same rules that apply to everyone who lives here.
Helping guests understand these expectations ensures a pleasant experience for them and for neighbors who use the amenities regularly.
Using the Masters Clubhouse
The Masters Clubhouse is one of the central gathering places in the community. Whether enjoying a social event, meeting neighbors, or relaxing indoors, please remember that clubhouse rules apply to everyone.
Guests should respect posted hours, treat the facilities with care, and follow any guidelines for reservations, gatherings, or organized activities. Children should be supervised at all times to maintain a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.
Pools and Pool Areas
The pools are among the most popular spots during the summer months. To keep them enjoyable and safe:
• Observe all posted pool rules.
• Ensure children and non-swimmers are properly supervised.
• Keep noise levels considerate of others relaxing nearby.
• Clean up personal items and dispose of trash properly. Please also be mindful of occupancy guidelines and ensure guests are accompanied by a resident.
Tennis, Pickleball, and Other Courts
Our courts are shared recreational spaces. Residents hosting guests should help ensure:
• Proper court etiquette is followed.
• Time limits or reservation systems are respected.
• Equipment and court surfaces are treated with care. These small courtesies help everyone enjoy fair access during busy summer months.
Ponds and Outdoor Areas
The ponds and natural areas add to the beauty of the community and should be enjoyed responsibly. Guests should avoid disturbing wildlife, refrain from feeding animals, and help keep the surroundings clean.
Fitness Center and Library
The gym and library provide quieter spaces for wellness and relaxation. Please remind visitors to:
• Follow posted rules and equipment guidelines in the fitness center.
• Return library materials properly and keep the area quiet and tidy.
Respecting these spaces ensures they remain comfortable for all residents.
Community Events
Summer events are a wonderful way for residents and their guests to connect. When attending gatherings:
• Follow event guidelines or sign-up requirements.
• Be respectful of shared spaces and volunteers organizing activities.
• Help maintain a friendly, welcoming atmosphere.
A Community Effort
Fairways Country Club has always been known for its welcoming spirit and strong sense of community. By taking a moment to guide our guests and encourage respect for shared spaces, we help preserve the peaceful and enjoyable lifestyle that everyone here values. Thank you for doing your part to make this a wonderful summer for residents, families, and visitors alike.
HTA – POOL AND COMMUNITY GUEST GUIDELINES
All guests under the age of eighteen (18) must be accompanied by a resident to all Community recreational facilities and common areas.
Guests under the age of eighteen may use the Greenbrier swimming pool only during the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and the Masters swimming pool only during the hours of 1:00 p.m. to one half hour before sunset. Guests under 18 must be accompanied by a resident over the age of eighteen.
No pets are allowed in the recreational facilities or common areas.
New England/Canada Club Update

The New England/Canada Club meets the third Monday of each month. Fran Archibald is the President, Linda Murray is our new Vice President, and Jean Kijek is Secretary. Claire Sourwine started our March meeting with prayer and thanks for the bountiful potluck supper. Fran invited all to enjoy the salads, baked beans, meatballs, fried chicken, chicken casserole sandwiches, green bean casserole, deviled eggs, and a variety of delicious desserts!
Fran opened the business meeting, thanked Debbie Yeagley for welcoming members and for distributing door prize tickets. Linda Murray handled the share the wealth tickets and Ronnie Tricohce-Griffin, Sunshine Chair, asked people to let her know of anyone who needs a get-well card or other special card.

Door Prizes were called by Debbie Yeagley – many excellent prizes –all donated by members. Do bring door prizes for our next meeting –April 20th.

ATTENTION RIDERS: Courtesy van service is available to Hometown America Fairways residents who want to participate in adventures to area shopping centers.
Each week, the van makes three runs: Tuesday to Publix; Wednesday to Winn Dixie and Friday open for Walmart, Aldis or another store upon request.
“While that is the standard schedule, due to conflicts, days may change,” John Cutsinger, driver, said. “Riders are asked to make your reservation by Sunday to make sure seats can be confirmed, however you can call the day before to see is space is available.”
The van is available at 10 a.m. at the Masters for loading. Call or text John Cutsinger with any questions.

American Flag Retirement
I am “Old Glory”. As you retire me, do not be sad or feel sorry for me. I have had the great Honor of being your flag of the United States of America and the Republic for which I stand, one Nation under God, indivisible, with Liberty and Justice for all.
Respect the Flag!
Three things you should never do are: (1) let the flag touch the ground, (2) use it as clothing or drapery, and (3) display it with the union down (unless in dire distress), as these actions are considered disrespectful according to the U.S. Flag Code. https://usflag.net/code/. Other key prohibitions include marking or drawing on the flag, using it for advertising, or carrying it horizontally.
When to Dispose of an American Flag
The U.S. flag code says, “The Flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting
emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning.” When an American Flag is worn beyond repair, it should be retired in a respectful manner. How to Dispose of a Flag Here in Fairways
There is a white Disposal Flag Box to the left side behind the mailboxes. Many organizations that collect disposed flags hold ceremonies to retire them and Flag Day – June 14 – is a popular day to hold these ceremonies.

Friday April 10th we will be hosting a Disco Night Fever Dance. Music will be provided by Dave Capp and France Neil. So, dust off your 70’s Disco attire and get ready to “Boogie Woogie Oogie” the night away. Just a reminder that this is an adult event and you must be 18 or older to attend. The event will be from 6:30pm until9:30pm and doors open

Military History Days in April – April is Month of the Military Child (Purple Up! Day) is celebrated on April 15th. Gold Star Spouses Day is observed on Saturday, April 5, National Former Prisoner of War Recognition Day is observed on April 5th, Air Force Reserve Birthday is April 14th, Army Reserve celebrates its birthday on April 23, Military Brats Day will be observed on Tuesday, April 30.
