Fairview High School’s film “Minus One” receives accolades and has another showing soon!

“I asked myself about what creative endeavor would I undertake and bring to life… I realized that I could really talk about my big dream that keeps coming up. The bits and pieces of how to create it even speaking all the way out loud instead of in my head. Is there support in Fairview that might to help me with certain aspects that are out of my wheel house? Like shooting videos, adding music, getting familiar with scanners , printing and so on? I want to create big… with our community . Not only to grow our culture but us building supportive environment.” ~Polly Puckett Billiu

We’d also like to thank Niche Arts, The Fairview Public Library, the Fairview Farmer’s Market, Olde Towne Antiques Mall, Harvest by Labcanna and The Fairview Chamber of Commerce for helping the Arts Council find outlets for this growing interest for art in Fairview. We are excited about what the future holds for our growing town and are working to make sure that art is a big part of that vision to strengthen the health and vitality of the people who choose to live here.

Film Minus One Watch for the next showing at the Nashville Film Festival at Regal Hollywood Theaters, 719 Thompson Lane in Nashville. “Minus One” will play at 10 a.m. Oct. 6 and 12:30 p.m. Oct. 9. Tickets are available for purchase at the Nashville Film Festival website. For non-pass holders, an adult ticket is $15, and a student ticket is $13.

Bob King, Fairview High School’s film instructor, worked with this amazing group of talented students in their TV and Film class.

They started out with bi-weekly episodes and eventually decided to make a feature film written and acted by the students. The message the film conveys is “one choice” — sometimes you get one chance to have an effect; to not harm yourself or others.

Minus One had its debut at the historic Franklin Theater in March of 2019. In May, the film won two silver medals in the General Entertainment and General Student categories and a bronze medal in the General Low Budget category at the 40th Annual Telly Awards.

In August, Minus One had two public showings at the Roxy Theater in Dickson, TN. The Roxy Theater charged regular admission prices and donated 100% of the ticket price to Fairview High’s TV & Film program.

The excitement for the Nashville Film Festival is growing for this talented group of young actors and filmmakers.

Performing Arts Fairview Community Theater performed their rendition of the hilarious hit musical, I love you; You’re Perfect; Now Change, for several engagements in July at the Fairview High School Auditorium. The play was directed by Brooklyn Hinson Hughes in her directoral debut, and the cast included Mariah Dawn Wolitski, Chris Nasso, Leslie Johnson Mathis, Matt Bravo, Linda Wheeler, Sarina Jeske and Luke Sanders.

Jamie Kearney saw the show and said “It was fantastic!!!! Loved it!

Jill Turpin took her son and had this to say about the play, “I was impressed. It was a good cast with talent and skill. I wish that more people had known about it.

The live accompaniment violin and keyboard music was fantastic. Very entertaining.”

Auditions were held in mid-September for their upcoming show, Noises Off, by Michael Frayn. The Show dates are set for January 9th - 12th. Be sure to watch their FaceBook feed for the most up-to-date information and ticket information.

Fairview Community Theater is hosting a fun event for children. A Princess Tea Party will be held November 23, 4:30-6:30pm at Niche Art Center. The cost is $25 per child. Space is limited to 20 children with 1 guardian each.

We will provide tea (real tea or juice) cupcakes (gluten free option available upon request) There will be a meet and greet with Disney Princesses, tea etiquette with Alice in Wonderland, the art of fan language (fan included) and lots of Disney sing along music! The Fairview Arts Council presented The Writer’s Journey on August 3 at the Fairview Public Library.

It featured local writers Ron York, Sandra Stewart, Richard Edmonton, Sarah Jenkins and Aaron Kavli who are accomplished in true crime, poetry, biographical musings, sci-fi and more.

The writers discussed a variety of topics and gave us a bit of background on how they became a writer, shared a few stories from their pursuit of writing and offered a brief reading from their favorite works.

The audience engagement primed the discussions with their on-point questions.

This successful event made evident the broad talents that we have in our community. Be assured we will be having more of these events. Follow the Fairview Arts Council on FaceBook to keep apprised of all our upcoming events.

Sarah Jenkins A writer, actor, and producer for theater since grade school.

A founding member of Players of Light Theater Troop. Her most recent book is set to be published late 2019/early 2020.

Richard Edmondson He began writing poems some thirty years ago, and has accumulated a sizable body of work ­— poems tackling everything from love and romance to the human condition.

A.R. Kavli His first published works were with gaming companies, and his first novel was published in 2011. “With Our Dying Breath” was published September 2019.

Sandra Stewart A degreed, published author with experience in legal, medical, and technical fields, Sandra specializes in helping people tell their stories, and is best known for her true crime work.

J. Ronald M. York Not only a writer, but also a composer with eight CDs in his catalog. In 2017 he released his first book, Kept in the Dark – a memoir of family secrets and his second in 2018.
