No Obstacle To

CITY’S HEALTH! All of us agree fitness needs to be perceived as fun and games or we subconsciously avoid it.

With that in mind Council has ensured there are no more excuses for people not to get fit, with the opening of an exciting, fun and free Obstacle Course as a new addition to Fairfield’s Adventure Park in Vine Street.

Life be in it!

“Parks represent an efficient, cost effective way to improve public health, but we have taken it to a new level, a tree top walk, rope bridges, two 20 metre flying foxes, balance beams, hurdles, a 3 metre high bell climb and a whole lot more!

“For the people of Fairfield this is a great way to get fit. Our City faces an obesity problem; we are tackling this major health issue in a positive and construction way”. Says Fairfield City Centre Co-ordinator, Helen Pijaca.

The Obstacle Course is a first of its kind in a public space and the boot camp style circuit can be used by 15 year olds and upwards and is set to bring visitors to the City.

“Sydney’s personal trainers will be attracted to our facilities, which are designed to be used by individuals and groups.

This will see an increase in day trippers which will flow through the local economy, Council is also looking after the City’s financial wellbeing,” Ms Pijaca added.

True enjoyment comes from activity of the mind and exercise of the body; the two are united, Fairfield Adventure Park will change your life!

GAME CHANGER ‘All great art is born of the metropolis’ said American poet Ezra Pound; then the recently completed The Crescent Plaza can rightly be declared a masterpiece!

The Crescent Plaza a triumph in design and functionality

The innovative redevelopment of the site has been hailed as one of the City’s most impressive infrastructure projects in recent years.

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone opened the public square on 6th December with an inspiring ceremony attended by business and community leaders.

“The design of the Plaza has the capability of providing something for everybody, a City is more than a place in space, and this site is a place of beauty and is a great experience.

“Beauty has a lot to do with character and I am of the opinion that The Crescent Plaza represents the best of our people,” Mayor Carbone says.

There are several cutting edge features of the Plaza, they include a celebration of the City’s history with an impressive use of timeline artwork walls. State of the art CCTV, free Wi Fi, which will keep residents and visitors connected, and a large LED TV screen which will provide an interactive experience like never before.

The Crescent Plaza is a real game changer for the City Centre.

“Our goal was to make this space calm and serene as well as entertaining. Also the Plaza will support local business, and promote the establishment of new businesses in the surrounding precinct,” Mayor Carbone explains.

The project is expected to exceed its goals, including the key measures of enhancing public safety and improving the lifestyle of the local community.

“Design must reflect the practical and aesthetic in the CBD but above all good public space design must primarily serve the residents and business community that is connected to it; they say good design does not date, and I believe Council has hit the mark with this important public space”. Fairfield Place Manager, Tony Walker said.

The aim of city planners across the globe is to improve the quality of life of its citizens and introduce more sustainability.

“Achieving true sustainability in the design of public space within our City requires the striking of a satisfactory balance between environmental, financial, cultural and social factors present at the site. To achieve this a designer needs to listen to the aspirations and needs of the surrounding business community which has been key to this design.

“The benefits arising from this substantial investment

Further modernisation programs will be rolled out throughout 2017, which include upcoming footpath upgrades in Smart Street, all keeping with the design and functionality precepts outlined and delivered by the Fairfield Place Team.

Christmas Spirit

ALIVE & WELL! Christmas time, every home takes on a special beauty, special warmth and that’s certainly true of the lighting of the Epoch Plaza Christmas tree by Fairfield City Mayor, Frank Carbone.

The venue is the nucleus of the City Centre, and has seen so much, been so much for lives of our people and our history. Every year this landmark event has seen crowds grow to celebrate this sacred tradition; the City was illuminated when the switch was turned on 1st December.

“It’s always humbling and inspiring for me to light the Christmas tree. The people of Fairfield join Australians everywhere recognising the sense of renewed hope and comfort this joyous season brings to our City, our nation and the world”. Mayor Carbone says.

People of goodwill were captivated by the angelic voices of the Mary MacKillop Catholic College choir, a petting zoo thrilled children of all ages and Santa Claus and his helpers touched the hearts of so many.

“The feeling is seen in the wondrous faces of children and in the hopeful eyes of the aged. It overflows the hearts of cheerful givers and the souls of the caring.

And it is reflected in the brilliant colours, joyful sounds, and beauty of the season.

“The Nativity story of nearly twenty one centuries ago is known by all faiths as a hymn to the brotherhood of man.

For Christians, it is the fulfilment of age-old prophecies and the reaffirmation of God’s great love for all of us.

Through a generous Heavenly Father’s gift of His Son, hope and compassion entered a world weary with fear and despair and changed it for all time”. Describes Jamil Ayoub of Al-Jamil Market.

Record crowds at Christmas tree lighting

Another major Christmas event on the Fairfield calendar is the annual trolley drive for the Fairfield Uniting Church diner, which cooks more than 14,000 meals each year for the City’s disadvantaged. As the trolleys thundered down Ware Street on 2nd December, organiser Tom Murphy from Starr Partners, reiterated his belief that the Christmas spirit is alive and well in the City.

“It is found throughout the year whenever faith overcomes doubt, hope conquers despair, and love triumphs over hate. It is present when people of any creed bring love and understanding to the hearts of their fellow man. The generosity of our people to help the needy really brings us closer together.

“In 2017 I pray that prudence, wisdom and understanding might descend on the people of all nations so that during the year ahead we may realize an ancient and wondrous dream: peace on earth and goodwill to all,” Mr Murphy said.
