INSIDE: MAJOR PROJECTS AROUND OUR CITY WHAT'S ON AND MORE

From your MAYOR

Council continues to advocate for our community, calling for increased police resources in our area to ensure our local officers are properly supported as they serve our City under growing pressure. We also continue to push for the reinstatement of the once‑promised east–west metro, a project that would have connected the new Western Sydney Airport through Cecil Park, Prairiewood and Smithfield, linking into the new Metro at Westmead and providing a direct connection to the city.

As Mayor, I will keep standing up for our residents and push for the investment and support our growing City deserves.

Alongside this work, mid year is also a time to reflect on the energy,

diversity and connection that shape life across Fairfield City.

Over recent months, our community has come together to celebrate some significant events. We were proud to host Bring It On! Youth Festival, the largest youth event in Western Sydney, where young people showcased their creativity, talent and leadership on a stage designed by and for them. We also recognised Mother’s Day, celebrating the important role mothers, carers and maternal figures play in strengthening families and communities across our City.

Our Seniors Bus Tours return this month providing local seniors the opportunity to get out and about, connect with

others and explore services and facilities across Fairfield City. These tours remain a valued way to support wellbeing and social connection for older residents.

Through these initiatives and more outlined in this City Life, Council remains focused on delivering projects and services that support a liveable, inclusive and connected City that meet the needs of our growing City, now and into the future.

MAJOR PROJECTS UPDATE

Safer roads and better connections for our community

You have told us that connected transport systems are one of your top priorities.

That's why we are embarking on a huge $18.1 million program of road and transport upgrades in the upcoming 2026/27 financial year.

We are also investing $833,000 to renew our road bridges, $606,000 to renew pedestrian refuges and speed humps and $315,000 to renew, upgrade and install new bus shelters.

We will also spend $330,000 on traffic calming devices in identified blackspot locations around the City and $570,000 on renewing signs and line marking.

To see all the works we have planned and what is happening near you, visit www.fairfieldcity.nsw. gov.au/operationalplan.

Fairfield Showground and Community Events Centre

An exciting milestone has been reached on the Fairfield Showground Community and Events Centre, with the project now officially approved under the State Significant Development Application process.

Located in the heart of Fairfield Showground, the new centre will become a landmark destination for gatherings, celebrations, and indoor sporting events. Designed to be flexible and future focused, the facility will support a wide range of uses including exhibitions, performances, cultural events, community celebrations, conferences, sporting activities, and private functions.

The project is proudly funded by Fairfield City Council, with a $28 million contribution from the NSW Government through the Western Sydney Infrastructure Grants Program, reflecting a shared commitment to investing in community infrastructure across Western Sydney. Visit www.fairfieldcity. nsw.gov.au/ShowgroundCEC for more.

Playground upgrades

Local families are getting more opportunities to get out and about and active together as our playground upgrade program continues with the recent completion of a new playground at Heysen Park, Abbotsbury and Kinghorne Park, Bonnyrigg.

The Heysen Park playground is based on a farm theme, which is a nod to the original uses of the land around the suburb. This playground has received a great response from the community since its opening in April.

Now Kinghorne Park is also open for play. This playground has a castle theme with a drawbridge and an alligator!

In the coming year we will also be upgrading playgrounds at Chisholm Park, St Johns Park; Lalich Park, Bonnyrigg and Bold Park, Cabramatta West.

We will also be installing new outdoor fitness equipment at King Park 2 in Wakeley.
