Committed to excellence

OUR REHAB TEAM The Story Behind Our Team Tokai Physiotherapy Inc was established in 2021 by Marchelle Lake and Megan Bezuidenhout. Our practice upholds the highest standards of care and is committed to efficacy and an evidence based, innovative approach to physical rehabilitation. Our team is comprised of 6 dynamic Physiotherapists boasting over 35 years of combined experience. We make a significant and positive impact on people’s lives through caring, healing and empowering. We treat every patient with dignity and respect. Our physiotherapists believe that every patient is unique. That’s why we conduct thorough first evaluations to ensure treatment programmes are equally unique. It’s our goal to treat not only the symptoms but the underlying cause. Our vision remains to build an all-inclusive environment with a patient-centered approach and utilize the various disciplines in-house to provide the highest possible level of care.

WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT? Each Physiotherapist has a special interest within physiotherapy and has the ambition to thrive and excel within their field. We run 6 main departments within the practice each with a lead Physiotherapist that is highly skilled and trained to offer effective patient centred care in line with international guidelines.

PULMONARY REHABILITATION “A path to better breathing” Pulmonary rehabilitation is a form of rehabilitation which includes exercise training, health education, and breathing techniques for people who have lung conditions. At Tokai Physiotherapy, we’re passionate about helping people who struggle with breathlessness. The COVID-19 pandemic has only made this already unbearable symptom worse, but we are here to help.

OUR APPROACH Following an initial complex assessment, the treating physiotherapist will devise a tailored treatment plan to improve quality of life, exercise tolerance and overall physical functioning. The education part of the programme teaches you to be “in charge” of your breathing instead of your breathing being in charge of you.

OUR REVIEWS "Having had COVID and an underlying respiratory condition, I found working with Marchelle a huge comfort, on the road to recovery. My confidence is growing constantly. Marchelle is so passionate about her job and this can be seen by the results and awareness she has achieved” - Tracy Footman “I have emphysema (COPD). Recently my breathlessness worsened even though lung tests did not show a worsening of my lung function. This impaired breathing affected my whole life ... my confidence as well as my activities. I became fearful and irritable. My pulmonologist suggested I see Marchelle. So I went to see her, not daring to hope that she could help me. However, Marchelle has improved my breathing and quality of life enormously, restoring my confidence ... without even touching my body! She has explained various factors that can impact negatively on my breathing and how to counteract them which has been empowering for me. Basically she has taught me a whole lot of useful information about my disease and my breathing. And she is an INSPIRED teacher ... passionate, positive, creative and encouraging. She even has me exercising now!” - Sabrina Sargenti “Pulmonary rehab meant so much to me before and after the biggest day in my life… 2017 was the year I received my double lung Transplant, the first in a state hospital in Africa - Groote Schuur. In preparation for the big day, unknown date, I needed to exercise and maintain as much strength as possible, even though my lungs were failing me. After my transplant my goals at pulmonary rehab changed, I had a new lease on life but needed to gradually build my strength, with lungs that were no longer failing. Improving my endurance, my breathing strength and my overall fitness allowed me to live my life and make my donor proud.Be a hero, be an organ donor.” - Tanya Bothma
