Fire Evacuation Brochure Noordhoek Manor August 2021
Introduction The village is divided into 6 zones. Each zone is identified by its own colour - Yellow, Pink, Blue, Orange, Green and Purple. Please refer to the Fire Evacuation Map at the back of this brochure to see in which zone you reside. The zones have been grouped under two Zone Coordinators. Each zone has a Main Coordinator assisted by three Road Wardens. Each Zone also has a Zone Assembly point ( identified by a colour-coded assembly box secured to a light pole - see the Map) to which residents will be asked to report in the event of an evacuation. In the event of a fire, the evacuation plan will be decided according to the severity and/or nature of the fire. If an evacuation is required, we will be guided by the Chief Fire Marshall. Andre Maree, the Estate Manager and/or Monica Mason, the Village Manager who are the Fire Marshalls of the Village will instruct the Zone Coordinators on the plan of action. The Zone Coordinators will then contact the Main Road Warden Coordinators who, together with their team of Road Wardens, will ensure that their zones are evacuated. Fire Evacuation Procedure In the Event of a Fire: 1. Please do not panic. Wait for your Road Warden to contact you to inform you about the next step 2. Do not open the assembly box unless instructed to do so by your Zone Coordinator. 3. The Road Wardens will assist residents to evacuate safely. 4. Residents must first make their way to their Zone Assembly Point for roll-call, after which they must make their way to the club house. 5. Please assist residents who need help. 6. You may bring your dogs/cats to the club house. Please ensure all dogs are on a lead. If you
have a cat/s, please keep a cat box on standby so that your cat/s can be secured. 7. We have secured other venues in case our club house is also under threat. If necessary, you will be advised where to go to wait in safety until the fire is extinguished. 8. If you decide to leave the village during a fire to stay with friends or family, you must first go to your Zone Assembly Point and inform your Main Road Warden Coordinator. This is so that your name can be ticked off the roll-call list. 9. Please DO NOT rush down to the club house and park your car in the parking area – we do not want to have a traffic jam on the access routes to the village. Wait for the Road Wardens to brief you on the evacuation plan. Please Note the Following: 1. It is essential that you notify the office if you are going away on holiday, going to hospital, and so on, especially during the fire season. If you have a house sitter/s, please supply the office with the name and number of a contact person. 2. It is recommended that you keep some items packed in a bag in case of an emergency, whether a fire evacuation or an unexpected trip to hospital. This will mean you can evacuate more quickly if the need arises. 3. Do not sleep with the key to your house in your door. If we are unable to wake you, we will fetch the keys to your house from Health Care so that we can open your door. What’s in the box? 1. Loud Hailer 2. Torch 3. Vests 4. Clipboard 5. Pen and Stickers
