Towards the end of 2018 our Product Managers have spent considerable time developing core ranges such as Steering & Suspension, Timing Chain Kits and Gaskets. »Vehicle » of the Month Ford Focus Mk3 2011-2018 Ford has an uncanny knack of producing vehicles that resonate with the masses and therefore sell in droves.

The Automotive pundits plugged it as ‘the best handling family hatch’ and by 2012 the Focus was the bestselling car in the world.

By 2011 Ford had some of the bestselling models around, covering almost all vehicle segments and to top off the offering, along came the Focus Mk3.

Ford had really pulled their socks up by this point in terms of build quality and by working with other large manufacturers to produce dependable engines, the going was good for this giant American producer.

The Focus had one key selling point which helped blast away the competition, which came in the form of multi-link suspension on all four corners. The result of which, bred a ‘have your cake and eat it’ car, that was practical yet fun to hurl around.

The sheer numbers of vehicles sold was bound to produce a serious demand within the aftermarket, therefore FAI began launching parts for the Focus 2011- just 18 months after it was first announced. Please see a selection overleaf and many more online, faiauto.com.

Q. I was always told to use copper spray on head gaskets, but FAI say to install head gaskets dry, why? A: On older generation gaskets this held some truth, specifically fibre gaskets. But with the advent of steel and MLS head gaskets the need for a copper-based spray to help seal is no longer necessary. New head gaskets are manufactured to ensure a perfect seal without addition of additives. Please also be aware that your warranty may be void if head gaskets are found to have additional sealants applied to them or contact surfaces.

Q: Why can’t I see certain FAI products on MAM? A: Maybe the supplier preferences are set by head office or they are new products we’ve launched, or we might not be approved. In any event it is simple enough to add FAI as a supplier for preferred/specific product ranges. Follow these simple steps and FAI will appear for parts lookups on your system. 1. From your MAM home screen click on the multi-coloured box in the bottom left corner. 2. This will bring up the option menu for MAM. Now click on supplier preferences. 3. From the supplier drop down select FAI. If a part category has an “X” against it, it means we will not appear in part searches. Change the “X” to “1”. 4. If you now click update this will save your preferences. Please note: The settings may be locked by a password set by your head office.

»»Engine of the Month Ford 1.4 TDCi F6JA / JB / JD Cheap running costs are a must with any new supermini as your target market is usually customers that are shopping to a budget; wanting the best ‘A to B’ car money can buy. The F6JA was developed as a collaborative effort between Ford & PSA to be introduced as the cost saving option in the Fiesta V. A combination of the established Fiesta name along with 60+ MPG figures and the lowest tax bracket meant that the 1.4 TDCI badge was a common sight. Turbo diesel engines were seen as the answer to the question, “how can I save on fuel costs?”. This has now broken down somewhat with demonization of diesel which has been helped along by the government taking a complete U-Turn on opinion.

A small diesel engine such as the 1.4 TDCi is becoming a thing of the past with the small turbo’d petrol units plugging the gap between 1.0 – 2.0 litres. This doesn’t however mean that the cars that they power are a thing of the past. The same savvy shoppers that purchased them in the first place want them running for years to come. Variations of the F6JA were fitted throughout Ford and Mazda for over a decade and we’ve seen no real drop in demand for replacement components. FAI stock a large selection to cover this popular unit, including Gaskets, Cam Shaft, oil & water pump and timing belt kit.
