Walter Hollinsworth A Fond Farewell Dear Customer, After 10 years of service to FAI, we are sad to announce that Walter Hollinsworth will be retiring on the 13th September 2019. Walter has been an integral part of our UK Factor sales team and achieved great success in his regional areas. Over the span of his career at FAI, Walter has used his incredible charisma and suave demeanour to build vital relationships with FAI customers and even win some new ones!

Walters sense of humour, outlook on life and tidy moustache will always be valued and remembered and he will be greatly missed by everyone at FAI and the rest of the UK automotive aftermarket. We wish him the best of luck in his retirement and hope that he has time to work on his golf because it needs it.

»»Rounds 8 & 9 The eighth round of the WSBK championship has proved to be the most difficult yet for team Aruba.

Friday’s free practice was a closely matched session with a large group of riders only separated by a fraction of a second. However, as with all racing, those tiny margins dictate your standing out on the grid; consequently, Alvaro Bautista started race one in 6th and Chaz Davies in 10th, despite producing good times.

Bautista moved up to fifth in the first half of race one, a position that he defended until he crashed out during lap 11.

Unfortunately, there wasn’t a chance of reentering proceedings, especially when Alvaro needed assistance from the medical team.

This unfortunate result gave Kawasaki’s Rea the opportunity to rob Bautista of first position within the championship; Alvaro being a the top of the leader board since the opening round.

Chaz’s continued issues with grip and stability have again raised their heads this weekend, leading to a position of 10th for the opening race. A scenario that continued into Sunday where the Welshman found events equally challenging; resulting in a Superpole position of 7th and 9th in race two.

Bautista’s outlook was one of caution going into the second half of the weekend, wanting to make up some of those lost points from the previous day. The Superpole was cut short due to a large crash which luckily was avoided by both our riders. By the end of the now 8 lap race, Bautista was in 4th; a step in the right direction and one that pushed the Spaniard to fight for a podium place in race 2. Determined not to make any mistakes, the seasoned rider managed to join the leading pack and take 3rd.

Both riders have come away from Donington with one or two bruises to their bodies and also to their pride, but this is the stuff that makes them more determined than ever to come out swinging in the next round.

The Laguna Seca Raceway, born from the road racing of Pebble Beach, has served the racing community since 1957.

This historic circuit played host to round 9 of the championship; a round where we would see fortunes reversed for our Ducati riders. Chaz Davies featured on the podium twice, while teammate Alvaro Bautista experienced his worst defeat so far this season.

The free practice sessions were encouraging for both riders with Chaz and Alvaro finishing 1st and 3rd respectively. Davies also posted the quickest time of the day with a 1.23.387; feats that Chaz chalked up-to significant modifications to the Panigale V4 setup.

After a successful qualifying Superpole, both riders joined Kawasaki’s Jonathan Rea on the first line of the grid for race one. Chaz chased the race leader (Rea) as hard as he could but to no avail, settling for a respectable 2nd place. A result that is made more difficult to achieve as the track features a series of troublesome turns, including one that requires contenders to manoeuvre an 18-metre drop in elevation; dubbed the ‘cork-screw’.

Alvaro got off to a good start, also chasing the lead rider when, during lap 5 he had a minor off.

So minor in fact he got straight back into the race, however the damage was done, leaving him in 17th place.

Roll on race two and Chaz’s confidence carried over from Saturday’s result coupled with improvement to hardware paved the way to victory. Dominating proceedings from the off, the Welshman scored his first win of 2019.

During Sunday’s superpole Bautista yet again ran into trouble, this time literally, when a fellow rider cut into his path – resulting in an end to his weekend. He did attempt race two but realised within a few minutes that the injuries he incurred were more serious. This culmination of unfortunate events has left poor-old Alvaro with ligament damage and zero points from round nine.

That’s all the superbike action until the series resumes in September. Can Bautista pull back his position of 1st? Has Chaz turned a corner with his new bike setup? We can’t wait!

»Vehicle » of the Month Volkswagen Tiguan 2007 - 2016 The Tiguan has gone from one of the most incorrectly pronounced models to a household name, mainly due to the gains in popularity of SUVs since its launch back in 2007.

The mid-sized SUV doesn’t have the same off-roading credentials offered by some manufacturers or the bargain price of others. Instead, it offers a distinctly VW flavour; understated and neat in appearance, carrying with it an air of dependability.

This has proved to be a winning formula for VW, who has been riding high on the wave of practical vehicles that utilise their height rather than length. Chuck in a nice ride height so you can manoeuvre those pesky kids on the school run and you’re golden.

Despite a mid-life facelift in 2011 most components have been used on the Tiguan throughout its life. This spells good news for the supply of parts, especially when just two main engines used, were the 1.4 TSi and the more common 2.0 TDi. Please see overleaf for a plethora of top-notch parts.

»»Engine of the Month Opel / Vauxhall 2.0 CDTi A20DTH The good old A20DTH ‘a.k.a’ the OpelVauxhall 2.0 CDTi; what can be said about one of the most common engines of the 2010s. Well, we could tell you about the vast array of vehicles that the powerplant fitted or the fact this derivative ran for around decade, but we’re pretty sure you already know this.

So, let’s tell you something you may not have heard about the model where the A20DTH spent most of its life; the Insignia.

Back in 2003 when the Insignia concept was launched, GM showcased it with a V8 lifted out of the Corvette, however, from that point to its launch in 2008 the engineers swapped it out for the, you guessed it – the A20DTH.

From a fun factor, this was a pretty big disappointment but considering that V8 would have sent you back to the petrol station on an almost daily basis, we reckon the 2.0 CDTi was a good choice. Plus, if you wore earplugs to drown out the clatter, it performed pretty well too.

Here’s another thing you may not know, FAI has a shed load of parts for them and given the kicking they receive from families, taxi drivers and company car drivers, it’s a good job too.
