After a historic opening round, Bautista had a lot to live up to going into the second, more challenging, round. The Spanish rider didn’t disappoint the crowd by laying on a spectacular display of racing excellence.

Friday’s opening free-session gave both riders a chance to acclimatise to the south-east Asian suffocating heat and to practise on another maiden circuit with the new V4 bike.

The Spaniard achieved a 1.32.971 in practice which gave an indication for how Saturday’s Superpole was going to go. Blistering around the track he went on to secure the top spot and as a result, he started race one in a comfortable 1st on the grid.

Race proceedings kicked-off with spectators witnessing a WSBK first as Bautista and last years champion, Jonathan Rea, played a brilliant game of cat ‘n mouse. For the first few laps the seasoned riders were neck and neck, even to the point of making contact with each other in lap 3. Thankfully, both stayed upright and by lap 9, Alvaro had made his move past Rea and didn’t look back. So far so good then for the team newbie!

Chaz Davies was yet to show his true abilities on a course that he was champion of in 2018. The Welshman had a wobble on turn 3 which resulted in a minor off and despite a determined Chaz hopping straight back on and re-joining the race, he had lost too much ground and had to settle for 15th.

Did Chaz’s luck change for race two?... Unfortunately not.

Sunday’s race was set on yet another scorching day. Chaz was making good progress, battling with the pack sitting behind the 3 race leaders, which had now set themselves apart. Whilst vying for 7th place, Chaz went to overtake but smoke was visible from the rear of the Panigale.

At this point, feeling the loss of power, Chaz had to decide whether to let off or risk blowing the engine.

He did the only sensible thing and reluctantly pulled out of the race.

Brimming with confidence, Bautista wasn’t hanging about and shot off the grid, where he held the lead from Rea. When the chequered flag dropped, the experienced rider was a full 10 seconds ahead of his nearest contender.

With a seamless record so far, Bautista has been bestowed with 124 points. A lead we are sure he’s eager to uphold in round three, where WSBK will be visiting his home turf; Aragon – Spain.

“Three wins, three fastest laps and Superpole means that it has been a perfect weekend for me! It wasn’t easy however because the Panigale V4 R is new everywhere we go and everything has to be discovered from scratch. Right from the beginning I had great confidence with the bike and only made small adjustments for the set-up we know. I just want to say thanks to my team and all the people in Ducati because they have done a fantastic job, I’m so happy! Now we have some time to rest before we go to my home race.

»Vehicle » of the Month Nissan Qashqai 2006 - 2013 Nissan’s first generation Qashqai didn’t win any major automotive accolades in its 7.5-year production. If it had, we think the award for the most mispronounced model name in history would be fitting. The name Qashqai has even had Nissan poke fun at their own creation, but it’s not alone.

There have been a few names over the years that may have tripped people up, such as the Touareg or the slightly rude sounding R-Sport (that’s it, keep saying it).

Nissan did make the marketing side of things difficult for themselves by also describing it as a Compact Crossover SUV, which for those who don’t know is apparently a vehicle that looks like a car but intended for light off-roading. In the case of the Qashqai, we’d suggest this light off-roading be limited to activities such as parking with two wheels on the path or putting it on your lawn to wash it; a Discovery this is not!

This might all sound a bit negative, as if we don’t like the Q-ash-key, Q-wash-q-ee or as labelled by the then Top Gear host, Jeremy Clarkson; the Nissan Kumquat.

No, we really like it! With a charm all of its own, the Qashqai’s sales grew throughout the late 2000s, reaching a meaty 1.24 million sold by the time it was replaced in 2013.

What was once quirky and different is now commonplace with all manner of pumped-up incarnations parked up outside the School gates,.. probably with two wheels on the pavement.

Despite Nissan having a reputation for reliability, the Qashqai’s are well used and a good amount of them tipping the 100k mark; and you know what that means? Parts, parts and more parts!

Q. What product lines do you supply catalogues for and which are online only?

A: In recent years the demand for printed catalogues has gone down and a greater focus put on digital systems such as TecCom and MAM. Online systems do have their advantages, with up-to-date data and the very latest parts in range at your fingertips.

We do however realise that with certain product ranges, a traditional catalogue layout can be helpful. Where there is significant demand we produce a range of printed catalogues, so if you’d like to see more or different product ranges in printed form, please let us know.

The selection below is some of our latest and most popular catalogues. We don’t like seeing our good work go to waste but if you have old copies of FAI catalogues, we advise visiting one of the online data providers that list all FAIs ranges.

W H E E L B E A R I N G S Q. Does FAI offer a heavy-duty Steering & suspension range to help compensate for battery weight in Electric/Hybrid vehicles?

A: FAI maintain high standards of material grades and perform rigorous testing to

ensure a quality product that offers a like-for-like safety equivalent repair.

Vehicles that were designed from the off-set to be pure electric, mostly feature a unique set of suspension components, which, if included in the FAI range, will match the original.

Electric versions of existing models, such as the VW E Golf, are fitted with the same parts as their fuel burning equivalents at point of manufacture. Steering & Suspension components are designed with safety in mind, so a variety of day-to-day driving conditions are well catered for, whether fully ladened – bumbling down B roads or pottering along the motorway. It’s for this reason that the extra few dozen kilos that the electric system adds are easily distributed throughout the standard set-up.

In short, FAI offers the same part that’s coming off the vehicle, despite which drivetrain the vehicle is fitted with.

»»Engine of the Month Jaguar 3.0D AJV6D In Jaguars heyday, there were two things that seemed to define them, firstly, a feeling of grandeur and secondly, a note-full soundtrack from a large petrol power-plant. The most enviable of which was the ultra-smooth 6.0ltr V12 found in the XJS. An industry professional once commented that if you could afford to run a Jaguar then you could afford to buy one new; possibly a fair statement back in the 80s or early 90s.

Jaguar, as with most manufacturers, has evolved into a brand that wants to sell a volume of cars to compete on the global stage. When the company was sold by Ford in 2008 to Tata Motors, it spelled the demise of the once favoured petrol gasguzzlers; replaced with a series of diesel engines that would power the popular XF.

Four pot versions pulled in most of the company car drivers but there needed to be an in-between; an engine that was both frugal and in keeping with the expectations of Jag fans.

So was born the AJV6D, a reworked and improved version of the 2.7D it was based on; found in the old S-Type. This was well received by buyers as most achieved 35+ to the gallon even when using most of the 240 horses on tap.

The AJV6D didn’t rival BMWs straight 6, found in the 530d or 535d but in the real world, it was more than good enough; allowing prospective customers to add a true Jag to their shopping list.

The 3.0 diesel lump was used across the various Jaguar-Land Rover platforms in different states of tune; resulting in a demand for quality parts that matched the pocket of ‘new’ Jaguar owners.
