Automechanika Frankfurt is the most important trade fair for the automotive aftermarket and has been organised by Messe Frankfurt since 1971. 2016 saw approximately 133,000 trade visitors from 170 countries attend to see the latest developments on offer from 4,843 exhibitors. The trade fair takes place every two years, alternating with the IAA, and will be celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2018. The 25th Automechanika Frankfurt from 11 to 15 September 2018 will include new themes such as Classic Cars and REIFEN, which will be held simultaneously in the new Hall 12 as a co-located show for the first time. Thanks to its excellent transport connections and central location at the heart of Europe, Messe Frankfurt can be reached quickly and easily by air, train or car. FAI has exhibited at Frankfurt for over 26 years and has seen constant evolution. Automechanika affords us the opportunity to connect with our global customers and is the ideal platform to update and introduce customers to our growing selection of premium products. For 2018 we have doubled the size of our stand and moved to a more prominent location. We have some exciting announcements for Frankfurt, so make sure to come visit us

Top 10 Interesting Facts about Frankfurt 1. Frankfurt is the largest city of Hesse – one of the federal states in Germany. It is not, however, its capital. This title belongs to another city – Wiesbaden. 2. During ancient times, Frankfurt was the centre of the Holy Roman Empire where kings – and later emperors – were crowned. 3. The famous writer, humanist and scientist Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was born in Frankfurt in 1749. In 1860, it also became the final resting place of the German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer. 4. After the Second World War, Frankfurt was a contender for the capital of the Federal Republic of Germany. Eventually, however, that title went to Bonn. 5. Frankfurt has the largest inner-city forest in Germany, taking up around 80 sq. km. (a third of its territory), and the world-famous 20-hectare Palm Garden, which hosts plants from every climate zone on the planet. 6. This city is home to two of the EU’s highest skyscrapers – the Commerzbank (259 m) and the tower of the Exhibition Centre. 7. Frankfurt’s airport is the largest in Germany. It is third largest in Europe in terms of the number of passengers flown, and the second in terms of transported cargo. 8. Every year, the city hosts over 30 industrial expos and fairs. The largest automobile, publishing and music industry shows, which attract millions of people, are all held here. 9. Frankfurt is home to Germany’s wealthiest and most luxurious museums. 10. The city’s Henninger Tower is the highest beer reservoir in the world.

»»Vehicle of the Month Mercedes Benz CLS (C218) 2011 - 2017 The original CLS launched in 2005 was lauded for its outlandish, aggressive styling out of character with traditional Mercedes standards of conservative vehicle design. In 2011 the second-generation Mercedes Benz CLS was launched. It was considered a backwards step, design wise, despite wide wheel arches and large road presence it’s build quality and interior soon won over most of its critics. The new CLS offered all the luxury and prestige of cars like the E & S Class but with the design of a sporty coupe. The only draw back of this sloped back design

was less head room for taller passengers. It was available to buy with a choice of efficient four or six cylinder diesel engines and V6 or V8 petrol engines. Suspension on the CLS is very stable on the standard steel springs or for the those with deeper pockets, air suspension was available as an upgrade. The CLS does not suffer from any serious technical issues. The 250 CDI had a recall for an injector issue and a software

»»Engine of the Month Fiat 1.3 Multi-Jet Fiat’s 1.3 Multijet diesel engine is a hugely popular and successful engine. It has been adopted by amongst others Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, PSA Group, Opel/Vauxhall, Ford and Suzuki. The 1.3 Multijet is an inline 4 cylinder, double overhead cam, common rail, direct injection, turbo charged engine. There are five power variants available for manufacturers to use including a 70 PS (51

kW; 69 hp), a 75 PS (55 kW; 74 hp), a variable inlet geometry 90 PS (66 kW; 89 hp), a 95 PS (70 kW; 94 hp) from the Multijet II generation,[8] and a 105 PS (77 kW; 104 hp). The 1.3 Multijet has won numerous awards since it launch and for a time as the smallest four-cylinder diesel engine offering fuel consumption figures of 3.3 L/100 km (86 mpg imp; 71 mpg US) in some applications. The engine is able to meet Euro IV pollution standards without the use of a diesel

particulate filter . To meet ever tightening emission regulations Fiat launched the Multijet II in 2009. The new engine came with a new injection management system (up to 8 injections per cycle, instead of 5) and conforms to Euro V pollution standards. »»Torsional Vibration Damper Kits
FAI always advocates best practice when it comes to vehicle repair. So when we launched our initial range of 50 TVD’s a year ago, we also had a range of TVD kits in development. To assist the installer, FAI have added a range of 23 TVD kits which include the torsional vibration damper and any bolts and washers required for the installation. Depending on the application, stretch bolts are used to fix the TVD to the crankshaft. During installation the bolt will deform so it MUST be replaced during a repair. Failure to replace a used stretch bolt can cause the new TVD to fail due to incorrect torquing or the bolt may snap during installation. An air tool must never be used to remove or install crankshaft bolts and manufacturer instructions must be followed to ensure correct installation. The O.E. TVD pulley has a built-in harmonic damper, in the form of a split design, with a thick rubber pad sandwiched between two steel sheets. The damper is designed to absorb torsional and vertical vibrations from the crank, as a result of the engine combustion process. All FAI Torsional Vibration Dampers are manufactured to meet or exceed OE specifications. FVD kit numbers are identified by the suffix K, e.g. FVD1000K
REMEMBER! Never re-use an old stretch bolt. Non stretch bolts should only be used a maximum of 3 times and a punch should be used to mark the bolt head to prevent over use.
