»»FAI wins UK’s highest business accolade
The Queen’s Award for Enterprise 2018 We are proud to announce that Her Majesty The Queen has approved the Prime Minister’s recommendation that FAI should receive a 2018 Queen’s Award for Enterprise. FAI has been specifically recognised for the outstanding growth in International Trade, one of four categories within the Queen’s Award program. This honour is only awarded to qualifying companies able to demonstrate the strict requirements and consistent year-on-year sales growth that you would expect from a top British exporter. The Queens award, now in its 53rd year, can’t be won on figures alone; processes throughout the business must exceed the norm, with social, environmental and corporate responsibility all being scrutinised in the selection process. The FAI team, spear-headed by Managing Director Sean Walker, have used decades of industry knowledge and ingenuity to compile an Export expansion strategy which has catapulted the business in to uncharted territory. »»WSBK: April Double
Aruba.it Battle for Points in rounds 3 & 4 The month of April has been a busy one for the WSBK Championship, featuring two European bouts back to back. Firstly, it was Aragon – Spain, where Chaz got off to a rocky start, taking a dive in the super-pole which resulted in starting position of 11th on the grid. By adopting a fearless riding style and cutting up the pack at lightning pace, the Welshman took second place before the flag came down. Melandri looked a strong contender for much of the race, however, whilst braking in to a turn he momentarily left the track, putting him in fourth. Michael Rinaldi (Aruba.it Junior rider) rode his WSBK debut in Spain, a long-awaited start, as the young rider is only competing within Europe. Coming out swinging, he stayed close to the leading pack of riders and showing

his mettle, managed to finish in a very respectable 8th. Chaz put on a great show for spectators in Sundays’ race two, seemingly unhindered by a third-row start, he took first place around lap 5. Once across the finish line, he completed the momentous race with a bow. That’s his 7th win at the Spanish track and his second of the season so far, putting him in 2nd overall. To further boast the presence of team Aruba.it on the leader board, Melandri rode a solid race producing a podium position of third, possibly a lesser position than he might have gained if a rear brake issue hadn’t arisen. The veteran rider sits just below Davies in third on the championship listings. Rinaldi continued to impress his piers by finishing 7th. Hungry to learn and eager to win, this rookie really is ‘one to watch’.

The shortest possible break was left between the April races.The boys in red fought hard in the fourth round of the WSBK, where they faced crippling technical issues. Marco again suffered stability problems and Chaz was hindered by rear wheel vibration in race 2. Despite this, Chaz and Marco scored valuable points in Assen, securing positions 2nd and 3rd respectively in the championship. Michael Rinaldi started with gusto however this was not to be his weekend. He crashed out early in race 1, corner 7, but thankfully wasn’t hurt. The young Italian, still finding his feet in this highly competitive contest, gained some valuable experience throughout the event.

Mercedes A-Class 2012 onwards
It’s hard to understand why Mercedes felt the need to create the A Class name back in 1997. Was it to rival the Audi A3? or where they trying to create the ultimate city car to add to its prestige portfolio, being small, yet practical? Well, whatever the reason, they failed! Maybe failed is a little strong, but many drivers felt that they’d been let down by build issues (mainly electrical), especially when, although cheap for a Merc, it was hardly a bargain. This impacted on forecasted sales and as a n result, Mercedes lost £1200 for every car sold around the early 2000s. ett ntio Having taken on all the reports of reliability issues, Mercedes produced the second generation in 2005. Despite having an improved finish and being slightly better looking, the car was considered ‘mediocre’ by most and certainly didn’t live up to other German offerings such as the BMW 1 Series.

Given this history, we weren’t bowled over by the announcement of the latest generation back in 2011, but after a good helping of humble pie we not only realised it was a competitive offering, with potential for big sales, we also wanted one….and still do. The new A Class isn’t without it’s faults but to be fair any car that gets compared to other premium hatch backs, will always get a hard time by critics. The press made comments about its cornering abilities vs. the 1 series and the price point dancing around that of the iconic Golf GTi, but they missed a key point, it looks fantastic! The average person doesn’t seem to be too concerned with ‘track condition’ performance when they can sit in a high-end, beautifully crafted cabin and have the three-starred badge on display for a starting price equalling that of a spec’d Ford Focus. They love it, we love it and the array of parts in range reflects this. Finally, worthy of the name… A Class.

Torsional Vibration Damper Kits Shortly over a year ago, FAI introduced a range of Torsional Vibration Dampers to support our existing range of engine repair products. These have been a great success to date and have consequently prompted the development of kit variants of our existing range, now including the crankshaft bolt(s) and washers. Dependent on the fitment vehicle, some of the kits contain stretch bolts. It is not recommended to re-use old stretch bolts as these will be deformed and will not torque up correctly. In a worst-case scenario, these could also snap during fitment. Crankshaft bolts must always be installed using the manufacturers recommended torque settings and an air tool should never be used to loosen or tighten bolts. In total, 23 of our FVD’s now are available with fitting accessories such as bolts and washers to help you complete the job. Any part number ending in a ‘K’ will include fitting accessories. »»Engine of the Month 1.6 Turbo EP6DT
Ever heard someone say “I wouldn’t buy a French car”? This aging point of view, mainly aimed at vehicles produced by the PSA group, really isn’t backed up by the scores of Citroens and Peugeots you see on your daily commute, most of which, actually catch your eye. The offering from this car giant has been bolstered in recent years with the introduction of Citroen’s DS range and the Peugeot RCZ, pulling in younger buyers and selling in droves. Fitted across the fleet, a common theme amongst this new crowd-pleasing line up is the 1.6 petrol engine, available in both naturally aspirated and turboed forms.
To reinforce the popularity of this versatile power-plant, it was picked up by BMW 10 years ago, initially applied to MINI and more recently the latest 1 Series (F20). Seemingly unaware of the tie-up between these two unlikely vehicle manufacturers, or maybe just a little more comfortable with a prestige badge on the front, consumers have been relying on the EP6DT engine for years, knowingly or not. In this instance, what’s good for the OEMs’ is also good for the Aftermarket, with many components shared between manufacturers, turbo or not.
