Welcome

to our island.

Winter in Jersey is a thing of beauty. It is typically a little milder here than it is in the UK, yet the sharp freshness of the sea air as you walk our coastal paths is both unmistakable and invigorating.

Our bustling capital, St. Helier, comes alive with twinkling lights, and the festive season is marked by the arrival of the Genuine Jersey Simply Christmas Market in the historic Royal Square. For Christmas shopping without the stress, head to our lively high street, with late night shopping on Thursday evenings adding an extra festive buzz. We are lucky to have a range of independent stores and boutiques, not to mention our historic Central Market, which is full of treasures and friendly stallholders – and don’t forget, shopping in Jersey is VAT-free.

Elsewhere on the island, there is plenty more to enjoy, including the new Jersey Tidal Trail, our signature 48 mile coastal route shaped by some of the world’s biggest

tides. The first section of the trail, which starts in St. Helier and ends in the pretty harbour village of St. Aubin, is dotted with lovely cafés, and St. Aubin itself is home to many excellent restaurants. If you’re an experienced hiker, head up to the north coast, where you’ll find cosy pubs ready to welcome you after a crisp afternoon walk.

It may be winter, but that doesn’t mean a trip to the beach is off the cards. Venture out on an intertidal walk with an experienced guide to uncover the secrets of our shores, or visit a seaside sauna and let your stress melt away.

If you’re not sure what to do, head to the Visitor Information Centre at Jersey Museum, where you can chat with one of our friendly Welcome Executives, who will share their recommendations of things to do, come rain or shine.

I hope that however you choose to spend your winter break in Jersey, you leave with lots of happy memories.

Welcome

Where are you?

You’re on our beautiful little island in the English Channel but you’re a lot closer to France (around 14 miles at the closest point) than you are to England (closer to 100 miles). You’re surrounded by four other main Channel Islands; Guernsey, Alderney, Sark and Herm and a handful of smaller inhabited and uninhabited islands. Our nearest coastal towns in France are Granville and the historic port of Saint-Malo. The term “Channel Islands” began to be used around 1830, possibly first by the Royal Navy as a collective name for the islands.

Elizabeth Castle

Our Population

Since the last census in 2021 it’s estimated that our population has grown to around 103,267. You’ll find most of us in and around St. Helier leaving most of the northern, easterly and westerly parishes unspoilt and rural in nature. Roughly 50% of Jersey dwellers on the last census were locally born with 29% from the UK, 8% from Portugal/Madeira, 3% from Poland, 3% from Ireland, 1% from France and the rest from elsewhere.

Money

Pounds Sterling is the legal tender but we also have our own banknotes and coins which are classed as accepted tender elsewhere in the UK, people can take it, but they don’t have to - so don’t forget to spend your last few pound notes on souvenirs before you leave. If you forget though, a pound note also makes a great souvenir. Also, if you hold one of our bank notes up to the light you’ll not see a British king or queen in the hologram but the image of one of our own royalty.

A little more local knowledge...

History

The earliest evidence of human activity in Jersey dates to about 250,000 years ago and it was only 6,000 years ago that Jersey was part of mainland Europe before rising tides cut us off and made us an island.

During the American Wars of Independence, two attempted invasions of the island were made. In 1779, the Prince of Orange William V was prevented from landing at St. Ouen’s Bay and on 06 January 1781 a force led by Baron de Rullecourt

captured St. Helier in a daring dawn raid, but was defeated by a British army led by Major Francis Peirson in the Battle of Jersey. Jersey was the fourth-largest ship building area in the 19th-century British Isles, building over 900 vessels around the island.

Jersey was occupied by Nazi German troops between 1940 and 1945, with the Channel Islands being the only British soil occupied during World War II. This period of occupation saw about 8,000 islanders evacuated, 1,200 islanders deported

to camps in Germany, and over 300 islanders sentenced to the prisons and concentration camps of mainland Europe. Many islanders remained and the island was liberated by British troops on 09 May 1945, now celebrated as a public holiday locally.

People

Mostly a mix of Norman French and British settlers, Jersey’s community has also been enriched by the influences of the number of Europeans who also call Jersey their home. If you hear anybody referring to a Crapaud (French for toad) or a Jersey Bean they’ll be talking about one of the natives.

Language

The native language, which you’ll see displayed in a few locations around the island such as the airport and harbour is called Jèrriais but you’ll probably not hear it spoken unless you find yourself in the deepest, darkest of rural parishes such as St. Ouen, where 8% of parishioners speak it according to the results of a 2012 survey. English is the most widely spoken language.

If you hear anybody referring to a Crapaud (French for toad) or a Jersey Bean they’ll be talking about one of the natives.

Jersey and its neighbours

Jersey has an interesting relationship with both the UK and Europe in that it’s a Crown Dependency, meaning that despite having our own independent government, locals answer to the King and the British military support our interests should the need arise. Despite being part of the British Isles, Jersey is

not part of the United Kingdom. We’re also not part of the European Union but are a member of the EEC. Confused? You’ll fit right in!

Honorary Police

In addition to the States of Jersey Police force, who serve islandwide, each of Jersey’s twelve parishes has its own police service that only have jurisdiction within the boundaries of their own parish, also known as the Honorary Police, who are headquartered at each of the parish halls.

Economy

The local economy thrives from a combination of offshore finance, tourism, digital and agriculture. Bathe at our beaches, enjoy our local attractions, dine on our fresh produce including world famous potatoes and dairy products from the herds of local Jersey cows.

Tides

Jersey’s tidal range is one of the largest in the world with a range of around 12 metres. We’ve also got some of the cleanest water in the British Isles, which is a winning combination when it comes to keeping our beaches great. It’s worth noting that because of the huge tidal range that the sea level does rise quickly and it’s easy to get caught out. Be mindful that if you stray too far from the shore there could be a risk of tides cutting you off and leaving you stranded. Pay close attention to the signs and know the dangers.

Safe Swimming

The RNLI have lifeguards stationed at popular bays who provide cover between the red and yelow flags. For more information: www.rnlijersey.org.je

This is Grosnez Castle in St. Ouen, but you can call it ‘grow-nay castle’ (oh, and it’s in ‘saint one’)

Decoding the dialect

A local advises...

Whilst English is the most widely spoken language here in Jersey, if you find yourself interacting with some of the purest of locals you might notice a distinctive intonation that’s likely a remnant of our Norman roots despite sounding closer to a South African twang.

They’re hard to find these days but they’re definitely out there, mostly hidden away in the rural parishes. I should know, I’m descended from them and occasionally find myself pronouncing an ‘arn’ sound as ‘on’ in a way that’d likely disgust the King. The example sentence above sums this up

relatively succinctly. If you find yourself talking to somebody who pronounces words like this there’s a good chance they’ll be able to give you reliable directions. Just make sure you’re pronouncing the place names properly. To give you a head start we’ve listed a few on the page to the right.

Where are you heading?

Here are a few commonly mispronounced place names and how to say them so that nobody stares at you in complete and utter bewilderment. Good luck!

GETTING ABOUT

Arriving and leaving

By Air

If you arrive by air you’ll be arriving at Jersey Airport in the west of the island. Served by buses and taxis for onward travel right outside the arrivals hall, hire car services are also available inside the arrivals hall. Foreign exchange and postal services, including posting excess baggage are available in the departures hall. in 2025, Jersey also got its own No1 Lounge for departing visitors to enjoy an extra level of comfort pre-flight with food and drinks and a tranquil atmosphere. You can pick up and Evie car at the airport. www.jerseyairport.com / +44 (0) 1534 446000 / no1lounges.com

By Sea

If you’re wearing your sea legs, you’ll have arrived in St. Helier, Jersey’s capital. Taxis are available outside the arrivals hall although central St. Helier is only a short walk away. Scheduled ferries operate between the Channel Islands, England and France and for those with their own boat Jersey Marinas offer a whole host of services for which they’ve earned ‘5 Gold Anchor’ status, an internationally recognised accolade. You can pick up and Evie car at the harbour.

Public Buses

Buses operate throughout the island to and from Liberation Station in St. Helier. Listed beaches, landmarks and attractions have the route number in their listing. All buses are low floor, so they are all fully accessible for wheelchair users, pushchairs, prams and some smaller mobility scooters (with a permit). Low-floor buses also help those who have other mobility requirements. All buses have easy-access ramps and a dedicated wheelchair space.

The Discover Jersey pass is a multi –journey pass that give you unlimited travel for the duration indicated meaning you can hop on and hop off as many times as you like. The 1 day pass is valid until midnight on the day of purchase. Driving in Jersey

If you get lost, it’s worth bearing in mind that most locals won’t know where the A6 or B12 roads are, because all of our roads bear their own names in addition to these classifications. Your best bet? Point on a map or tell someone where you’re trying to get to! If you’re renting a car you’ll notice that the registration plate bears a white ‘H’ on a red background which denotes it as a hired vehicle. You’d best not flag down one of these for directions as they’re probably lost too. Like the United Kingdom, we drive on the left hand side of the road and all speed limits are posted in mph. The maximum permissable speed limit anywhere

is 40mph, with a large number of 30mph and 20mph zones. In the rural parishes you may also notice signs denoting ‘Green Lanes’ where the maximum speed limit is 15mph and right of way is given to those walking, cycling or riding horses. You’re also likely to come across a local driving phenomenon known as filter in turn. As you approach one, priority is given to traffic on your right.

After they’ve made their move it’s your turn and traffic on your left will yield to you. It’s a great way to keep traffic flowing and once you see it in action it’ll all make sense. The mini roundabout at the bottom of Beaumont Hill is a prime example. Don’t panic, you’ll be fine!

Dishing up fresh local seafood, prime British meats, wholesome vegan & veggie delights & international eats.

Early booking recommended! local ingredients, international flavours, coastal charm…always!

Serving artisanal coffees, home-made cakes, fresh juices & shakes, local craft brews, epic cocktails & light.

Where there’s a wheel, there’s a way!

Enjoying Jersey’s breathtaking beaches is an experience that should be available to all. The soft sand between your toes, the smell of sea salt in the air, and not to mention sunny beach days spent with loved ones and friends.

BeachAbility’s mission is to make that a reality. They offers specially adapted wheelchairs designed to glide over sand and stone with ease. All our wheelchairs are available for loan, free of charge, at 7 Jersey beaches to anyone with permanent or temporary mobility complications.

Their Le Braye site, which was relocated to the Healing Waves Surf Therapy Centre in August 2022, offers an additional ‘Changing Place’ for users to transfer into the beach wheelchairs using a hoist, take a shower, and change in private.

A similar facility is also available at Churchill Memorial Park which is one of their most popular locations. These two sites also house a Hippocamp chair which has proven popular among their younger wheelchair users. The Hippocamp chair races across the sand and skims along the water’s edge. A priceless experience all children should enjoy!

BEACHLIFE

No matter how you spend your time on Jersey, you’ll no doubt want to feel either the sand between your toes or breathe in the fresh sea air as you explore our beaches and coves. They each have their own unique personality. Choose the one that’s right for you...

Anne Port NE

A quiet and rarely crowded east-facing stretch of sand that catches the morning and midday sun. 2

Archirondel NE

This popular beach with an excellent beach cafe is pebbly at first but sandy at low tide when the water stays shallow for some way out. East-facing, Archirondel loses the sun in the late afternoon. 2

Bouley Bay N

A winding hill leads down to this steep pebble beach with deep water for competent swimmers. The bay is home to one of Jersey’s scuba-diving schools. 4

Green Island SE

A locals’ favourite, this sheltered south-facing beach is a real sun trap where soft sand, rock climbing and rock pool adventures await. The tide goes out a long way, so take care with the swift incoming tide and pick times close to high water to enjoy swimming or paddling. 1

St. Ouen’s Bay

Grève de Lecq NW

The most popular of the north coast beaches, Grève de Lecq’s sheltered sands and rockpools are ideal for families but lose the sun in the late afternoon. Don’t miss the excellent cafés and local pubs close by. Even in the winter months, some providers offer coasteering trips for guided cold-water dips! 9

Beauport SW

A real suntrap on the south coast, once you’ve wandered down the steep path from the car park and crossed the pebbles, you’ll reach a sheltered south-facing beach with golden sand and shallow turquoise water, ideal for swimming. 12a, 14 to St. Brelade’s Bay, then walk along the cliffs

A tiny fishing harbour with space to play on the sand, picnic or catch some sun, but more of a wild swim that some other beaches. Worth visiting for the excellent beach café. 4

Grouville Bay / La Rocque Harbour SE

A long stretch of sand that leads to Gorey harbour, with Mont Orgueil Castle as a backdrop. Plenty of parking, beach cafes and kiosks as well as a children’s beachside playground and soft sand make Long Beach a local favourite. 1a, 2

Bonne Nuit
N

St. Brelade’s Bay SW

The beautiful beach at St. Brelade’s Bay is one of the island’s busiest; a visitor favourite for its soft sand, safe swimming, beach activities and seaside eating. Voted as number three in the TripAdvisor Travellers’ Choice awards, this stunning south-facing beach is in the sun for most of the day. 12a, 14

Havre des Pas S

Close to the centre of St. Helier, this sandy beach is worth a visit to see the architecture of the art deco pool, filled by the tide each day. The beach is easy to access, and safe for swimmers. 1

Rozel Bay NE

A small fishing village lined with beach huts and harbourside cottages, Rozel is more of a fishing harbour than a place to swim. But at low tide, Rozel’s small stretch of white sand is safe for children to play, just look out for the Rozel geese! 3

St. Aubin’s Bay SW

A crescent of south-facing sand from St. Helier to St. Aubin, the beach is in full sun for most of the day. With several beach cafes along the promenade front, look out for the softest sand around the Gunsite Café with jet ski hire close by. 12a, 14, 15

Ouaisné Bay

SW

This south west facing beach is the wilder contrast to the adjoining St. Brelade’s Bay. The beaches are connected at low tide, or cross the pine-rich headland and walk along the sea wall next to the protected Ouaisné Common towards locals’ favourite, The Smugglers Inn.. 12a

Plémont

A pristine sandy cove reachable by a long flight of steps, where the intrepid are rewarded with a stunning natural playground of rock pools and sea caves. There’s safe swimming when the sea is calm, and surfing when it’s wild. The beach is completely covered at high tide. It’s quite a walk down from the bus stop so pack sensible footwear! 8

Portelet Bay

SW

Climb down the long flight of steps and you’ll be rewarded with a sunny, sheltered and sandy beach circling Janvrin’s Tomb at the centre. Portelet Bay Beach Café serves excellent pizza throughout the season, and the pub at the top of the steps, the Old Portelet Inn is a family favourite. 12a

St. Ouen’s Bay

W

A magnificent beach and natural playground for surfers and adrenaline seekers. It’s where one of the oldest surfing clubs in Europe has its home and makes a stunning setting for beach walks. Swimmers should take care in the strong currents and stick to the flagged zones. The beach is patrolled by RNLI lifeguards during the season. 22

Wet weather activities FOR THE FAMILY

If you’re visiting Jersey with the family you’ll be spoilt for choice with activities from all the activity providers mentioned over the previous few pages but there are also a few extra activities that your kids will particularly enjoy (and you too!). Many venues also organise events over half term but we don’t have full details at time of press. Be sure to give the attractions a call if you’re visiting them and ask!

Jump in some puddles

If the weather is wet, but you like to make a splash, head for the woods.

Our favourite is St. Catherine’s Woods, a winding route that takes you along a great sheltered pathway next to the water. Pick a good stick, slide down a bank and, if you’re lucky, someone will have installed the rope swing for some extra ‘wheeeee’.

See page 68

Hide in a castle!

Our castles are fun for all and kids of all ages will love playing knights and princesses. If you head to Mont Orgueil Castle, your little ones can get fully immersed and style themselves as royalty of old with the help of the free dressing-up room. There’s also a little play park within the battlements.

See page 65

Maritime Museum

Interactive fun of a nautical nature

Based (as you would hope) near to the harbour, the Maritime Museum is a fun and educational morning or afternoon out with all manner of seafaring-baed entertainment. Learn about wave motion, pirates, knots and more. It’s a great insight into Jersey’s nautical past!

See page 57

Jump Jersey

Tire out those energetic legs!

Jump Jersey is an indoor trampoline park based at Les Ormes, Jersey’s holiday village. Within the former indoor football facility, you can now find a world of bouncing wonder with trampolines, Gladiator-style challenges and climbing walls. Suitable for all ages and complete with cafe for parents who aren’t feeling their trampoline legs.

Uncover Jersey.

If you’ve ever been on a tour and felt like it’s the blind leading the blind, except one of them is clinging to a branded flag for dear life, consider taking a breather and trusting Jersey Uncovered to take you on a tour of the island.

With Blue Badge accreditation, Jersey Uncovered guides have proven that they possess comprehensive knowledge not just about the island they live on and love, but also about the United Kingdom as a whole. To be a Jersey Uncovered guide, that knowledge must be delivered in an entertaining and engaging way, bringing each place and subject to life.

Whatever your group size, interests, or requirements, Jersey Uncovered guides create a bespoke experience tailored to you. They offer tours in German and French, and all guides are qualified St John Ambulance First Aiders with full Public Liability Insurance.

At the heart of Jersey Uncovered are passionate storytellers Kary Day and Tracey Radford, both founding members of the team. Together, they bring Jersey’s rich history, landscapes and local legends vividly to life, offering a truly immersive experience for visitors and islanders alike.

Kary’s love for storytelling began long before she became a guide. Born into a Jersey-French family and raised on her grandmother’s tales of the island, she combines her flair for performance with an in-depth knowledge of Jersey’s culture, language and natural beauty. Her tours blend charm, humour and historical insight, taking you along forgotten lanes, secret beaches, winding cliff paths and historical residences that many visitors would never find.

A site guide for Jersey Heritage since 2009, she shares an infectious enthusiasm for local history, tracing the island’s story from its Ice Age beginnings through to modern life. Tracey’s love of the Island, appreciation of its natural beauty, understanding of its culture and history together with a flair for telling a good story, will ensure that your Jersey experience will be entertaining, illuminating and packed with fascinating historical facts.

Jersey Uncovered offers a wide range of guided experiences around Jersey including themed tours like a “Bergerac” TV-series adventure, lighthouse history, walking routes, coach & car drives, customised bespoke trips, food & drink explorations, church and heritage-site tours, corporate outings and kayak journeys along the coast.

This original design by Lauren Radley is her own colourful interpretation of Vintage Travel and Railway Posters. Take home a Genuine Jersey gift.

Jersey is famous worldwide for its breed of cow, superior quality milk and the prized Jersey Royal new potato but the island can also be proud of an abundance of fresh, seasonal produce and a variety of skilled craftsmen and artists who create a range of excellent products. To enjoy the best of what Jersey has to offer, islanders and visitors alike should look for the Genuine Jersey Mark – a guarantee of local provenance.

Products carrying the distinctive red Genuine Jersey mark include dairy goods, fruit and vegetables, herbs and salads, meat and poultry, fish and shellfish, pottery, wines, ciders, spirits and beers, jewellery, needlework, decorative stonework, wooden artefacts, glassware and artwork. Genuine Jersey produce and products can be bought in the main shopping centre in St. Helier and outlets islandwide – including galleries, studios, tourist attractions and heritage sites, farm shops and markets and sampled in restaurants, pubs, cafés and from ice cream stalls.

Pouring your milk from this handcrafted Jersey Milk Jug by local potter Karen Hibbs will provide you with a daily reminder of your visit to the island and of the milk from our prized herd. Karen also makes bowls for your Royals and other lovely hand thrown and hand built stoneware ceramics.

Jersey Sea Salt

Various outlets £6.50 You can’t get much more Jersey than salt made from the sea water which surrounds the island. Made using traditional methods in their bespoke salt houses, they solar evaporate large quantities of sea water to make this excellent cooks ingredient. It comes in a variety of blends including lemon, pepper dulse and our favourite, chilli (perfect for the glass of a margarita!).

Genuine Jersey was launched in 2001 to promote the diversity and quality of local produce and products. Since the Association started it has attracted a loyal and enthusiastic membership. While some members ensure the survival of Jersey’s heritage and traditions others are at the forefront of introducing pioneering farming methods, new crops or exploring previously untapped international markets. www.genuinejersey.je

Jewel in the west.

Jersey Pearl is a tourist hotspot for the ages, and once you’ve visited, it’s easy to see why. Far from just a browsing experience, the showroom - perched overlooking the wild of St Ouens Bay - offers a truly immersive experience into the world of pearls. It’s a destination the combines heritage, craftsmanship, hospitality and island charm.

From the minute you walk down the elegant hallway into the showroom, the experience feels hands-on and special. There’s the option to explore an extensive collection of designer pearl jewellery, witness the workshop where pieces are crafted and take part in a unique ‘Pick-a-Pearl’ activity — a favourite amongst both locals and tourists, where you select your pearl directly from an oyster. It’s rare to find a showroom as bespoke and personalised as this one.

Jersey Pearl’s collections range from timeless strands of Akoya pearls to bold designer bracelets and rings. Their collections range from elegant and understated to avant-garde and colourful, offering something for every taste and occasion. They’re the perfect products for gifts, keepsakes or simply treating yourself, with the added benefit that the in-house workshop offers bespoke designs and repairs anytime, making your piece as unique as your experience.

Jersey Pearl pays homage to it’s beautiful natural scenery by taking steps into the future with their commitment to sustainability. They highlight how pearl-farming can support the natural environment and work to protect their practices accordingly. It’s a refreshing touch that adds a deeper meaning to the jewellery. If you’re in Jersey and want to discover a place that feels both intimate and elevated, Jersey pearl is worth scheduling into your day.

Our foodie isle.

On an island which houses little more than 120,000 people we may appear to be small but when it comes to our foodie offering we would consider ourselves pretty mighty. What follows are just a handful of our brilliant eateries, if you’re here for just a few days… we can assure you that you won’t go hungry!

BREAKFAST AND BRUNCH

If I was asked for my death row meal I’d want at least one of those courses to be a dish you’d find on a breakfast menu. For years we’ve been told it’s the most important meal of the day, and who am I to disagree with Mr Kellogg’s. That said, if you’re hopping straight off the plane and into a hire car, take a trip down to St Ouen’s Bay to find some cracking all-day dining spots with a view of the sea. Whether that’s El Tico, Le Braye or Sands, they all have excellent varied menus which feature plenty of local produce.

If you’re starting your day and culinary journey in St Helier, just a few minutes walk from Liberation Station you’ll find The Pavillion - the home of an excellent brunch-based menu made with local produce.

A little way into the heart of St Helier you’ll find Locke’s, a firm favourite with locals and visitors alike, which has just increased in size to cater for even more hungry eaters! You can often see a number of suppliers bringing their local produce directly to their doors. Their brunch menu features some OG favourites like the Notorious BLT and Friends with Benedicts. In a similar vein, The Yard at the Jersey Museum (which also houses our tourist information centre) serves an excellent brunch selection and the most indulgent banana bread on the island. If you’re keen for a wander and fancy grabbing and going, Dandy is a favourite with a counter heaving full of daily baked artisan goods. Their fantastic Allpress coffee is an island favourite. On the other side of town is Four, a scratch bakery with an excellent team that produces phenomenal sourdough viennoiserie and other baked goods.

If you’re heading out East then you’ve got a plethora of options in Gorey. Enjoy a leisurely lunch sipping wine and eating seafood at Sumas, with a great view of the Castle, or alternatively soak in the hospitality at The Moorings, sitting on a picturesque harbour. Pop a little further round the coast to Archirondel and you’ll find the Driftwood Cafe, serving a seafood-inspired menu featuring the catch of its fishermen owners.

Lunch out West could see you heading back to St Ouen, to sample more delicious items from the varied menus of El Tico, Sands or Le Braye. If you fancy a change of scenery, St Brelade’s Bay is home to the world’s best Pizza Express, whilst the characterful village of St Aubin is filled with great venues - The Loft, The Boat House and The Old Courthouse to name a few. New to the area is The Salty Dog, a long-standing favourite that moved to a new building near the bus stop last year. It is a great lunch into dinner option.

DINNER IN ST HELIER

We’ve had a strong proliferation of dinner venues over the last few years. The Weighbridge and Liberty Wharf have seen restaurateurs investing in our international options, with Mexican, Asian, Italian and Spanish cuisines brought to the table. Such a variety of venues offers the choice to pursue international tastes which retain a local focus. Try Botana, a little slice of San Sebastian, for their amazing Paella or Pêtchi, favoured by foodie voyeurs for their open kitchen. Izakaya seem to have hit that sweet spot for Pan-Asian, with strong hot dishes and quality sushi.

Samphire is a beautiful central venue, offering a relaxed yet premium dinner setting bolstered by a robust, quality menu. Bohemia is our only restaurant with a Michelin star, recently ranked within the Top 50 restaurants in the UK - it is well worth a visit for lunch or dinner. We’re big fans of their Chef’s Table tasting menu, offering you the chance to truly immerse yourself in the dining experience. Bohemia has held its star for almost 20 years now, and is presently under the capable reign of Chef Callum Graham.

Shake up your nights.

Whether you’re looking for a big night out or a quick last order, St. Helier serves up a great selection of nighttime haunts; from Blind Pigs to a Porters’ Store, Jersey has something for all.

The Weighbridge is a good place to start. The dominant Royal Yacht Hotel has a variety of different drinking options available, whether it be outside sipping wine in their large al fresco area, squirrelled away in the Cabin bar (the last remaining part of the original historic building) or dancing the night away in their ‘Drift’ bar, there is something for everyone. Just over the road, The Square offers excellent food options and you can also drink there until 01:00. Across the cobbles of the Weighbridge, Vittoria in Liberty Wharf offers another nightteim bar option. Just up the road from the Weighbridge on Hill Street is the expansive Chambers, which offers live music; a fusion of pub culture and bar atmosphere. behind Chambers is The Blind Pig, hidden down a back alley just around the corner (you can also get there through a little hidden door at the back of Chambers itself). Just over the way is the excellent Sundown, that is just down the road on Wharf Street, replete with a strong schedule of live music and events.

Just one more right turn, on Broad Street, you’ll find Vinifera, worth investigating for an early evening glass of wine from one of the island’s most experienced owner-sommeliers. They also offer a private table in the basement, bookable for groups to take wine with delicious food.

If it’s wine time, you should carry on across town where you’ll find the newly opened The Watchmaker, a chic ‘wine, Champagne and charcutie’ bar. If you’re looking for some predinner drinks, the bar at Samphire and their upstairs terrace (open weather-permitting). The location provides the perfect oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the high street.

Dancing in the dark.

It’s no secret that you’re not going to find the next Warehouse Project or Boiler Room experience on a 9‑by‑5 island, but Jersey’s luxurious lifestyle and eye for taste have given rise to a unique venue that isn’t one to miss.

The Sundown is relatively new to the island but has already secured its name as a popular nightlife destination for all ages, offering a range of live music, drinks, and sit‑down food options.Whether you’re easing into the evening with a craft cocktail in hand, or full on dancing as the band hits its stride, The Sundown always delivers. From Thursday nights with jazz and blues to weekend sets that turn up the tempo for funk, swing and contemporary hits, the venue knows how to keep a crowd within it’s doors.

The menu takes a global approach whilst remaining grounded in local quality. Tapas style dishes dominate: nothing beats their crispy halloumi with chilli chutney, Jersey beef carpaccio, slow cooked pork ribs in sweet chilli or

their seabass and king prawn man dressed in caper butter. Pair that with house crafted cocktails such as the Pineapple Basil Daiquiri or Raspberry Rye Sour, and you’ve got yourself an evening that ticks both the palate and party boxes.

In short, if you’re looking for a night in Jersey that’s equal parts culinary, musical and social, The Sundown makes the perfect destination. It’s central location on Wharf Street, in the beating heart of St Helier, makes it easy to drop in for dinner, and then linger for drinks.

LEAVE ONLY FOOTPRINTS

Let’s keep Jersey as pristine as nature intended. When exploring the Jersey Tidal Trail, please bin your litter, respect the wildlife and help protect our island’s precious coastal habitats so future wanderers can enjoy the same wonderful, natural beauty.

The Jersey Tidal Trail is produced with consideration and involvement of the following guardians of our natural environment.

Jersey Heritage is an independent trust dedicated to preserving and promoting the island’s culture, history, and environment. It manages iconic sites including Elizabeth Castle, Mont Orgueil, La Hougue Bie, Hamptonne Country Life Museum, Jersey Museum & Art Gallery, the Maritime Museum, Jersey Archive, and coastal towers like Seymour Tower. Open year-round, these sites offer exhibitions, tours, and educational programmes celebrating Jersey’s unique heritage and rich historical landscape. They also rent out unique accomodation through their Heritage Lets service.

Jersey National Park spans approximately 48 km (30 miles) of coastline, including reefs like Les Écréhous and Les Minquiers. With a 90 km island-wide coast and a tidal range of nearly 12 m on spring tides—ranking among the world’s largest—the park showcases expansive intertidal zones. Its diverse ecosystems support four reptile species (including the green lizard and slow worm) and three amphibians, all protected. Rich in heritage with ancient dolmens and WWII bunkers, the area invites walking, cycling, surfing, and stargazing—all set within a sustainable conservation landscape that merges nature, history, and community.

Jersey’s aspiring Geopark is an exciting celebration of the island’s dramatic geological past and rich natural heritage. From towering seacliffs and hidden caves to ancient fossils and striking rock formations, it offers a journey through 600 million years of Earth’s history. The island’s volcanic origins, glacial landscapes, and rare intertidal habitats make it a geologist’s dream. Beyond the rocks, the Geopark connects people with culture, biodiversity, and sustainable tourism. Educational trails, immersive storytelling, and community engagement bring the landscape to life, helping make Jersey a unique and inspiring destination for adventurers, families, and curious minds of all ages in future.

The National Trust for Jersey protects over 30 historic and natural sites across the island, including coastal paths, ancient woodlands, and heritage buildings. Highlights include 16 New Street, Le Don Hilton, Plémont Headland, and Le Moulin de Quétivel. These sites offer rich insight into Jersey’s history, wildlife, traditional industries, and breathtaking natural beauty.
