IVÁN GUTIÉRREZ Director de Operaciones Head of Operations
Aviation creates value every day by connecting people, opening up opportunities and bringing countries and cultures closer together. But there are times when this ability to connect goes beyond transport and takes on a much deeper significance: when it directly helps improve - and even save - lives.
At Air Europa, we view our business through this dual lens. On the one hand, we continue expanding our network to better connect Europe, the Americas and Africa. On the other, we remain firmly committed to initiatives that have a direct impact on society, such as organ transport operations coordinated by the National Transplant Organisation (ONT).
During 2025, the company took part in 37 organ airlift operations, ten more than the previous year. Behind each of these missions lies a complex coordination effort involving medical teams, airports, public bodies and airlines. Most importantly, however, there is the possibility of saving lives. The ONT has recognised Air Europa’s collaborative approach and the responsiveness of our professionals, who demonstrate responsibility, diligence, agility and dedication to service, especially in high-pressure situations.
This commitment to connecting people is also reflected in our international growth. This year we have added two new strategic destinations, Johannesburg and Geneva, which strengthen our position as a leading intercontinental airline. This expansion will soon be followed by Düsseldorf and El Salvador, whose addition to the Air Europa network will reinforce our commitment to Central America and expand connectivity options for thousands of passengers.
All these initiatives have one goal in common: to continue bringing people, opportunities and projects closer together. Whether transporting a traveller across the Atlantic, opening new routes or collaborating on life-changing operations, Air Europa continues to demonstrate that flying is about much more than simply reaching a destination. It’s about being where you’re needed most, when you’re needed most. Enjoy your flight.

ENG Before Marilyn, before the soup cans before becoming one of the most recognisable artists of the 20th century, Andy Warhol was already experimenting with images that multiplied. But he wasn’t doing it on canvas; he was doing it on fabric. On these textiles, amidst prints of lemons, pretzels or buttons, the language that would later change the course of art history began to take shape. This is the concept behind Andy Warhol, The Textiles, the exhibition that the Museum Cobra in Amstelveen, south of Amsterdam, dedicates to a little-known, and surprisingly revealing, facet of the American artist’s work. The exhibition brings together, for the first time, more than sixty textile designs created by Warhol between the 1950s and the early 1960s, when he was working as an illustrator and commercial designer. Until 6 September. museumcobra.nl

Planes del mes Plans for this month
ENG Colombia is the world’s second-largest exporter of flowers, after the Netherlands, and the department of Antioquia accounts for 40 per cent of the national production. For this reason, from 1 to 10 August, its capital, Medellín, celebrates the Flower Festival. The so-called ‘city of eternal spring’ overflows: balconies, avenues and squares burst into colour, the air smells of fresh flowers and thousands take to the streets. But if there is one image that defines the festival, it is that of the silleteros moving slowly, almost ceremonially, along the avenues. These are the are farmers from Santa Elena, a nearby mountainous area, who carry wooden structures on their backs — the ‘silletas’ — covered in intricate floral designs. It is a tribute to the farmers of old who used to carry flowers and goods into the city on foot.

The Weeknd reaches iconic status
The blue basilica that watches over everything

ENG Amidst the Andean valleys of southern Ecuador, in a landscape of mountains and hillsides surrounding the city of Loja, there rises – almost like a Marian apparition – one of the most beautiful churches in the world: the Basilica of El Cisne. In an intense blue hue, the sanctuary stands out with its Gothic-inspired architecture, vertical lines and a monumental presence that contrasts with the modest reddish-brown roofs that surround it. It is on 17 August that the great pilgrimage of the Virgin of El Cisne takes place, one of the most important in Ecuador. On that day, thousands of people make their way to the basilica, climbing steep slopes to accompany the statue, whilst this small mountain village fills with pilgrims, food and craft stalls, and a festival atmosphere.

After nine editions as one of Europe’s most significant and unprecedented cultural projects, the event is expanding its format and will take place over the weekend of 11 and 12 September (18 and 19 in La Laguna).
During these days, the historic centres of the fifteen cities that make up the network — Alcalá de Henares, Ávila, Baeza, Cáceres, Córdoba, Cuenca, Ibiza/Eivissa, Mérida, Salamanca, San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Santiago de Compostela, Segovia, Tarragona, Toledo y Úbeda — will be transformed into one vast stage. One of the main attractions will be Abierto Patrimonio (Open Heritage), a programme that will provide
free access, in the evenings, to the most iconic monuments and to venues that are usually closed to the public or little known. City walls, convents, towers, palaces and archaeological sites will open their doors on an exceptional basis.
The experience continues with Vive Patrimonio, an invitation to explore the cities through concerts, performances, craft workshops, cultural tours and interactive activities. Town squares will come alive with music, gardens will host cultural events and streets will bring back the stories, traditions and trades linked to each region. The third pillar of the project is Escena Patrimonio (Heritage Stage), the contemporary dance and performing arts festival that transforms cloisters, churches, gardens and city walls into spaces for creativity.
More than just a cultural event, Las Noches del Patrimonio is a different way of travelling. It is an opportunity to discover UNESCO-recognised cities through emotion, proximity and immersive experience.

// ENG From gig to gig, flying the flag for Air Europa across the country in their role as ambassadors. That’s how the band fronted by Willy Bárcenas and Antón Carreño is spending the summer – and the autumn too.
Carmen Otto

ENG What began as a joke is now one of the most popular bands on the Spanish music scene. Willy Bárcenas and Antón Carreño, known as Taburete, are back in the spotlight with El perro que fuma, a tour which, for them, represents “a dream comeback. We’ve always been lucky because things have never stopped going well for us, but this phase is exceeding our expectations in every way. In terms of gigs, promoting the new songs, recognition… Everything has gone really well.”
How does this album differ from the previous ones?
Well, it’s just another small step forward in our natural evolution. You can’t look at the album as a complete break from what came before. In terms of themes, we think it’s a bit more reflective, and as for the sound, we’ve managed to take things up another level.
What did you disconnect from during this whole year you’ve been on hiatus?
Actually, I think we reconnected rather than disconnected. We’ve learnt to slow down and enjoy a quiet way of life. To not need constant stimulation, which sometimes happens when you’re going from gig to gig. It’s given us perspective and taught us to appreciate the present more fully.

“UN VIAJE EN AVIÓN ES UN BUEN LUGAR PARA ENCONTRAR IDEAS Y FRASES”
“A plane journey is a great place to fi nd ideas and phrases”
What do you miss at this stage in your musical career?
We’re not old by any means – we certainly don’t feel that way – but you do start to see your youth slipping away, and we look back on it with a touch of nostalgia.
You also wrote the theme song for Torrente Presidente. Were you surprised by its success?
We knew the film was going to be a massive hit, and being given the chance to write the theme song was an honour. To be honest, yes, it’s gone down really well.
You decide: large venues or small stages? Small stages.
Many artists say that the sky is an inspiring place. Do you make the most of your flights to write songs? Not for writing as such, because at the end of the day we need an instrument and to make some noise to come up with the melodies [laughs], but when it comes to concepts, ideas, phrases… It really is a good place to find them.
How do you spend your time on board an Air Europa flight? Very comfortably, to be honest. Whether it’s reading, watching films or, if we can manage it, getting some sleep.

// Young farmers Cristina and Luis make Maral cheeses at the Cavalleria Vella estate (above). The traditional Mahón cheese retains its characteristic square shape and the mark left by the ‘fogasser’ – the linen and cotton cloth used in its production. In Subaida (above), guided tours give visitors an insight into how Mahón cheese is made.

// From Monte Toro (pictured above), one can appreciate what makes Menorca so unique: a green and fertile island, devoted to agriculture and embraced by the Mediterranean. Above, the footpath leading to Cala Binidalí, a setting that encapsulates the island’s rich and diverse landscape.

ENG The English in the 18th century were well aware of Menorca’s strategic importance. During their various periods of rule, they left a legacy that can still be seen today in the fortifications, the sash windows, the door bolts and a passion that the Menorcans have wholeheartedly embraced: good gin. The gin and lemon mix, known as pomada throughout the island except in Ciutadella – where locals almost insist on calling it gin amb llimonada – is a staple of local celebrations. For this reason Gin Xoriguer has become one of Menorca’s great symbols and the very essence of the island’s way of life. Founded in 1945 by Miguel Pons Justo, its historic distillery in the port of Maó remains open to the public.

// Andreu and Gloria are harvesting the Viognier grapes used to produce one of Menorca’s most distinctive white wines: Iamontanum (above). Viognier is a white wine made from a grape variety native to the Rhône region, which has developed its own unique character in Menorca thanks to the island’s soil, salinity and climate. Below, the lobster stew served at Es Cranc, in Fornells.

Signature cheeses and green pastures
Menorca, beyond its coves and sunsets, is also home to inland producers who preserve the island’s most rural essence. And few products represent it better than Mahón cheese, made from the milk of cows that graze in this oasis of Mediterranean greenery. After the pandemic, Cristina and Luis decided to launch their own dairy, Maral. “As well as traditional Mahón cheese, we produce artisan signature cheeses using milk from our Friesian, Menorcan and Brown Swiss cows”, explains Cristina. From their farm, they can see Ciutadella and the sea; their business and their two daughters keep them busy 365 days a year.
Tradition also goes by another name: Subaida. Its distinctive house, painted in English red, stands amongst meadows and dry-stone walls, a symbol of rural Menorca. The tours and tastings offered by the estate allow visitors to discover first-hand how some of the island’s most iconic cheeses are made and to understand the close relationship between the Menorcans and their land. But cheese and cured meats without a good wine would make for an incomplete story. This is where Avelino Casasnovas’s
// María José and Tolo, at Can Pons, bring a little piece of Menorcan happiness to the whole of Spain from their bakery in the heart of the island.
family and their winery, Finca Sa Marjaleta, come in. “Our name comes from Iammona, the ancient name for Ciutadella,” explains Andreu, Avelino’s son. Their Iamontanum wines are primarily based on the Syrah and Viognier varieties, although they also cultivate Grenache and Chardonnay. “The white wine made from Viognier, a grape native to the Rhône, takes on unique nuances thanks to the island’s salinity, soil and climate,” adds Andreu. The care and dedication that the entire family devotes to their vineyards reflect the deep respect that the people of Menorca have for their history.
Lobster, once a sailor’s delicacy
‘GOURMET’
Cheese, salt, gin or lobsters – the island is a ‘gourmet’ paradise >
Whilst the land provides cheese and wine, the sea supplies some of the most sought-after produce in Menorcan cuisine. Lobster, once a humble food eaten by fishermen, is now the undisputed queen of the table. “We have nine lobster fishermen who work exclusively for our restaurant, Es Cranc (Carrer de ses Escoles, 31, Fornells),” explains Serapio Fernández, whose spectacular tank at the back of his restaurant allows the lobsters to be kept alive outside the permitted fishing season, which is limited to the months of April to August.

The world’s best ensaimada María José Vivent and Tolo Pons are the artisans behind Can Pons in Es Mercadal. “Our ensaimadas, made with laminated dough and a slow fermentation process, take two days to make by hand,” she explains. Today, as well as selling locally, they distribute throughout Spain. In 2020, they were awarded the distinction of producing the world’s best ensaimada.
But perhaps the most evocative project in contemporary Menorca is Sal de Menorca. At the historic Salinas de la Concepción, founded in 1853, Rémy and Verena Best spearheaded the revival of artisanal salt production in 2021. “When they acquired the estate, they wanted to restore its salt-making heritage and breathe new life into the salt pans,” explains Laura Ruiz, who now leads this unique initiative. Their flor de sal is harvested by hand every day amidst water, wind and flamingos. A quiet life, a hidden life – something Menorca does so well: reminding us that life’s pleasures are best savoured without haste...

You land, switch on your phone, and the trip begins: map, taxi app, hotel booking, a message home. Those first five minutes on the ground now depend on one thing. A connection that simply works.
Travel has quietly gone digital. Losing signal abroad no longer means missing a few photos online; it means no map, no ride, no booking, no message home. Connectivity is now as basic to a trip as the passport.
Roaming will get you online, but it dates from the era of the odd call abroad; use a phone the way we do now and you may only learn the bill once home. A local SIM sounds thriftier, until you are queuing at a kiosk, passport in hand, decoding a tariff in another language. Public Wi-Fi helps in a hotel lobby, but not out on the street.
The reassuring news: nearly every recent smartphone already supports eSIM, a SIM built into the phone itself, nothing to insert or swap. A travel eSIM simply loads it with mobile data for your destination, bought and set up at home, with price and coverage known in advance. The routine is short: download the app, check compatibility, choose a plan, install before departure, activate on arrival.
and active in the eSIM market for over seven years, is a good example. Working with over 800 partner networks worldwide, it selects one automatically, so there is no hunting for a local operator, and its Multiple eSIMs feature lets families and groups manage several profiles from one account.
Plans vary with the trip: a Global Package covering 80+ countries, Global Plus for 140+, and Pay & Fly, pay-as-you-go data in 170+ countries.
The first step is downloading the Yesim app, which includes a device compatibility checker; a 500 MB trial for around €0.50 lets you test the connection first, and the code AIREUROPA gives new users 25% off their first order.

One tip, whichever service you choose: disable data roaming on your home SIM; it can stay active for calls, texts and bank codes. None of this is really about new technology. It is about matching connectivity to the way we actually travel, so the signal becomes one thing you never think about again.

Europa para Calanova Shop
The perfect place for golf lovers

// The largest golf shop in Europe is in La Cala de Mijas Costa (Málaga).

Since its creation in 2015, Calanova Shop has revolutionised the way golfers find and purchase the products they need to enjoy their favourite sport.
In the heart of Andalusia, the shop is a national benchmark.Calanova Shop was created in response to an obvious gap in the market. According to Antonio Soler, the company’s president, ‘golfers could not find what they were looking for in the traditional golf course shops, and when they did, the prices were exorbitant’. This situation led the company to set itself a challenge: to offer a complete service, adapted to the needs of golfers, even if it meant sacrificing the usual profit margins.
Since then, its philosophy has been clear: to prioritise customer satisfaction above all else. This approach has paid off, and in 2024 alone, more than 180,000 customers chose Calanova Shop, consolidating it as the most complete golf shop in Spain.
Calanova’s business model is based on a long-term vision. In the words of Antonio Soler, ‘our objective has always been to satisfy the needs of the golfer, even if that means not achieving the minimum profitability ratios required by other businesses’.
COMISARIO E INVESTIGADOR CURATOR AND RESEARCHER
// ENG The MARQ, the Alicante Museum of Archaeology, presents the exhibition Gold and the Universe: Indigenous Knowledge from Colombia. The curator tells us about this exhibition.

What is the narrative of the exhibition?
The starting point is simple, but its implications are complex: there are other ways of inhabiting the world. When Europeans arrived in what is now Colombia, they encountered civilisations that puzzled them, because they were different. The indigenous societies of present-day Colombia are the heirs to those civilisations, and they help us understand the archaeological past whilst also offering insights into how to tackle the ecological and ethical crisis facing the world today.
In pre-Columbian cultures, gold had a symbolic rather than a material value. How is this reflected?
Many pre-Hispanic societies shared gold as a common good, using it for gifts and offerings amongst both human and non-human beings. Gold did not divide, but rather united the beings of the world, facilitating communication between them. The exhibition invites us to rethink the myth of El Dorado and our obsession with gold. What objects can be seen in the exhibition?
The collection comprises almost 300 objects, including more than 150 made of gold, as well as pieces in stone, ceramics and textiles, on loan from the Gold Musuem in Bogotá, the most important museum of pre-Hispanic archaeology in the world. How has the exhibition layout been designed to help visitors understand the historical and cultural context? Most of the collection is archaeological, dating back several millennia, but there are also modern pieces (the most recent being some ritual garments made by an elder in the Amazon less than a month ago). Visitors will enter a maloca or communal hut, embark on a shamanic journey, feel the heat of the goldsmiths’ fires and take part in a ritual dance.

Air Europa strengthened its partnership with the National Transplant Organisation in 2025, taking part in 37 organ transport operations that helped save lives
In 2025, Air Europa once again played a key role in the organ transport operations coordinated by the National Transplant Organisation (ONT), helping to ensure that dozens of patients could be given a new chance at life. Over the past year, the airline carried out 37 organ airlift operations, ten more than in 2024 and more than double the number in 2020. In total, Air Europa has taken part in 138 operations over the last five years, consolidating its collaboration with the ONT and the Spanish transplant system, recognised as one of the most advanced in the world.
In 2025, the ONT coordinated the transport of 1,045 organs, with the number of air transport operations exceeding 1,000 for the second consecutive year. This reflects the high level of donation and transplant activity in Spain. More than 27% of these transport operations were carried out on commercial flights, with Air Europa handling 13.6% of them.
This collaboration highlights the role played by airlines in a logistical chain where every minute counts. The ability to connect cities and regions rapidly is key to ensuring that organs reach the hospitals and patients in need of them in time.
The ONT has recognised Air Europa’s collaboration and the commitment of its staff, whose responsiveness, sense of responsibility and dedication to service enable them to carry out these missions quickly and effectively. This work reflects the airline’s social commitment and the dedication of its team wherever it is most needed.

Air Europa ON receives an award

The measure, which forms part of Air Europa ON, is designed to streamline pre-flight procedures and enhance operational efficiency
Air Europa continues to make progress in rolling out Air Europa ON, its service excellence programme, with new measures aimed at improving the customer experience throughout the entire journey.
One of the latest developments is the introduction of new baggage sizers at boarding gates, designed to make handling cabin bags and hand luggage more efficient. These devices can quickly check the dimensions and weight of items, ensuring they comply with regulations.
The initiative will help to optimise boarding times and support flight punctuality, whilst also simplifying procedures for passengers. Air Europa, which has one of the most flexible cabin baggage policies on the market, aims to prevent oversized bags from hindering access to the aircraft or reducing storage space for other passengers.

The Spanish Association of Customer Relationship Experts (AEERC) has awarded Air Europa the IMPACT AEERC 2026 award for its Air Europa ON programme, a strategic initiative aimed at continuously enhancing the customer experience throughout the entire journey through improvements in operations, service and passenger care.
The IMPACT AEERC distinction recognises projects capable of making a tangible impact on customer relations through innovation, excellence and a personalised approach. In Air Europa’s case, the association has praised the company for putting passengers at the heart of its operations and implementing initiatives that enhance every customer touchpoint.

THIS SUMMER AND ALL YEAR ROUND, PROTECT YOURSELF FROM THE SUN

ENG Summer, warm weather and holidays are here, bringing with them increased exposure to the sun.
Most of us remember to protect ourselves from the sun during these months, but what about the rest of the year? Solar ultraviolet radiation can damage our skin 365 days a year and is the leading modifiable risk factor for skin cancer.
During the summer, beaches, swimming pools and trips to the mountains mean our skin is exposed for long periods, allowing significant sun damage to accumulate. During the rest of the year, exposure happens more often than we realise – in parks, or during walks and other outdoor activities. That’s why protecting yourself from the sun isn’t just a summer thing; it’s a healthy habit that should be part of our daily routine all year round.
Taking sun protection measures helps to avoid sunburn, prevent dark spots, delay premature ageing and, above all, reduce the risk of skin cancer.
To enjoy the sun safely:
• Avoid direct exposure during the middle of the day (11.00 am – 5.00 pm).
• Seek out shaded areas.
• Use broad-spectrum sun cream with an SPF of 50 or higher.
• Wear UV-protective sunglasses, a hat and clothing that covers your skin.
• Avoid sunbeds.
Combining these measures is the best way to protect your skin and that of your family. Taking care in the sun is also part of the journey too.
