One of the GCC’s fastest-growing edutainment brands, Leo & Loona Kids Park, has opened at The Avenues –Bahrain, bringing immersive play zones, adventure experiences and family-friendly dining under one roof.

The award-winning family entertainment destination, Leo & Loona Kids Park, has officially opened its doors at The Avenues – Bahrain, bringing one of the region’s most exciting indoor adventure experiences to the Kingdom.
Recognised as the Best Family Attraction in the Middle East and Best Family Destination, Leo & Loona Kids Park has quickly built a reputation for reimagining what modern family entertainment can look like. Through its mix of adventure, creativity, technology, dining and immersive storytelling, the concept has become one of the GCC’s fastest-growing edutainment brands, and Bahrain is now home to its newest and most ambitious destination yet. From the moment you step inside, the space feels less like a traditional kids’ park and more like an interactive world built around imagination and discovery. Inspired by the adventures of its mascots, Leo the adventurous lion and Loona the creative desert fox, the venue invites children to explore a vibrant universe with immersive play experiences around every corner.
The park has been divided into themed zones tailored to different ages and interests, creating a multi-layered experience where children can explore, learn, make new friends and play freely.
The Role-Play Zone allows children to step into real-world scenarios through interactive spaces like a supermarket, hospital or princess room, encouraging storytelling and social interaction. The Adventure Zone features climbing walls, trampoline arenas, rope-course trails and action-packed physical challenges designed to build confidence and keep high-energy explorers busy for hours. The Soft Play Zone brings together giant slides, sprawling labyrinths, ball pools and Leo & Loona’s signature

Adventure Towers across interconnected levels. Sports fans can also enjoy football, basketball, motion-based floor challenges and digital gaming experiences.
Younger children also have their own dedicated Toddler Area complete with soft slides, educational games, carousels and age-appropriate play spaces, while families can also benefit from Leo & Loona’s interactive smart tagging system for a more engaging, connected and personalised experience throughout the venue.
The park’s concept goes further than play alone. Designed as a lifestyle destination for families, the venue also features creative workshops, educational activities led by certified specialists and a premium family-friendly restaurant.
Celebrations are another major focus, with curated parties ranging from the brand’s signature Birthday Experience, designed to make every child feel like the star of their own story, to luxury packages with themed entertainment, creative activities and dedicated hosts.
“Now more than ever, we believe in the importance of creating spaces filled with positivity, imagination and happiness for children and families,” said Elizaveta Rossiiskaia, GCC Manager of Zamania (parent company). “With our new park opening, our focus is to offer an experience where children can feel excited, inspired and free to simply enjoy being kids.”

Presented as part of International Museum Day celebrations, His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa: Life and Legacy exhibition offers visitors a closer look at one of Bahrain’s most influential cultural and political figures.
As part of this year’s International Museum Day celebrations, held under the theme Museums Uniting a Divided World, the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities has presented a diverse programme of cultural events across the Kingdom, including a landmark exhibition at the Bahrain National Museum.
Titled His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa: Life and Legacy, the exhibit serves as a bridge between the Kingdom’s storied past and its vibrant present. More than a historical display, it is a tribute to a figure whose influence helped shape the intellectual and social fabric of modern Bahrain. Often remembered as a cultured statesman, Shaikh Mohammed bin Isa was regarded as a pioneer of Bahraini literature, poetry and culture. Offering an intimate look into his life, the exhibition sheds light on his character and his pivotal role in strengthening Bahrain’s position on both regional and international stages. Visitors can explore a carefully curated collection of archival photographs, offering rare glimpses into political and social milestones throughout his life, alongside personal belongings that provide insight into his daily life and character. Manuscripts, poetry and historical documents further highlight his intellectual depth, passion for the arts and his political experience.
The ticketed exhibition runs until July 31 and is open Wednesday to Monday, from 9am to 8pm. ✤

The Social Animal returns with another edition of The Hive, featuring live music, street-style bites and the genre-fluid sounds of Byculla Video Club.
Get ready for an enchanting evening at The Hive, an event hosted by The Social Animal that shines a spotlight on live music. The event will be held at Artology art studio on June 12, promising an extraordinary experience, with the vibrant Byculla Video Club taking centre stage.

Each track is treated as a ‘videotape’ in a fictional video library, allowing listeners to explore diverse soundscapes – from funk and disco to indie and folk. This eclecticism creates a rich tapestry of storytelling that captivates both live audiences and studio listeners.
This is more than just a concert; it’s a journey through quirky chaos, mood and motion-picture-inspired artistry. While you immerse yourself in the band’s unique sound, The Hive promises to evoke the chaos and magic of retro Bombay. Attendees can savour street-style food and signature drinks, enhancing the overall experience.

The temperatures may be rising but that doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. There’s plenty to do on the island without breaking into a sweat, whether you’re in the mood for karting, skydiving, surfing or even golfing – you can do them all indoors! We’ve rounded up some of the coolest indoor summer activities for all ages that will take you from games and arts to shopping and family days out.

Located in Riffa, Bwave is the country’s first indoor surfing destination, using artificial waves to recreate the sensation of riding real surf in a controlled environment. It’s designed for everyone from curious beginners to more confident thrill seekers, with a professional team on hand to guide first-timers through the basics before they hit the water. Sessions are open to anyone aged seven and above, making it a fun option for families, groups of friends or even birthday celebrations with a difference. Not many indoor activities can replicate the feeling of jumping out of a plane, which is exactly what makes Gravity Indoor Skydiving, Bahrain's one and only indoor skydiving tunnel, such a standout. Located at Gravity Village in Zallaq, the experience uses a vertical wind tunnel to create the sensation of freefall in a fully controlled environment, making it suitable even for complete beginners. After a quick briefing and gearing up with flight suits, helmets and goggles, participants step into the tunnel with certified instructors guiding them throughout the session. It’s surprisingly accessible and far less intimidating than most people expect once the flying actually begins. Beyond the skydiving itself, Gravity Village also features football pitches, rock climbing walls, padel courts and cafés, turning it into an easy all-day indoor escape during the hotter months. Gravity also specialises in birthday celebrations, corporate events, team-building experiences and private group bookings.

The nature-themed indoor entertainment centre offers plenty of options – rock climbing walls, low and high obstacle rope courses, a trampoline area and a dedicated soft play area for toddlers. The standout is the artificial indoor caving structure, one of the largest of its kind in the country, a 54-metre maze of tunnels and pathways built to resemble a real cave expedition. With a strong emphasis on safety, the entire space is supervised by trained coaches and staff members, making it popular with parents. It works well for mixed-age family groups, with enough variety that younger children and older ones aren't competing for the same space. Market Street has built something quite rare in Bahrain – a permanent space for local designers and independent makers that doesn't feel like a transient pop-up. The marketplace, with branches in Umm Al Hassam and El Mercado mall in Janabiya, brings together dozens of Bahraini crafters, artisans and local businesses selling everything from jewellery and candles to clothing, home décor, chocolates and baby products. The Umm Al Hassam branch has developed a particularly strong community feel over the years, helped by its café, outdoor garden area and regular workshops and gatherings that encourage people to stay longer than a quick shopping trip usually demands. For anyone tired of the same high-street chain stores, the two branches together offer a chance to shop more unique products in support of local brands.

For a slower-paced indoor outing away from the usual entertainment centres and shopping malls, the Permanent Farmers’ Market in Hoorat A’ali, Salmabad, offers something far more community focussed. Smaller than its outdoor sister in Budaiya, the market brings together local farmers, Bahraini productive families, restaurants and small businesses under one roof dedicated to supporting sustainable agriculture and national food production. Around 50 kiosks fill the market with fresh and seasonal local produce, alongside a range of products like spices, honey and jams. There’s also a children’s play area and regular community events give the market the feel of a social gathering rather than simply somewhere to do the weekly shop. It is open daily from 8am to 3pm, except Sundays.

When regular shopping malls start feeling a little too familiar, Souq Al Baraha offers something different. Located near Dragon City in Muharraq, the large indoor souq combines traditional architecture with the convenience of a modern shopping complex, complete with large archways, market lanes and dedicated sections for everything from fashion and perfumes to antiques, handicrafts, accessories, traditional Bahraini sweets and more. There are cafés and restaurants scattered throughout, along with a family entertainment centre and even fresh fruit and vegetable markets, making it easy to spend an entire afternoon here without rushing. It's also a popular cultural hub and regularly hosts live music performances, craft workshops, seasonal festivals and community engagement events throughout the year. Open until midnight on weekends, it's a decent evening option when you want somewhere with a bit of atmosphere.

Bahrain National Museum still remains one of the more rewarding indoor escapes in the Kingdom. Opened in 1988, it traces more than 6,000 years of Bahrain’s history through archaeological discoveries, restored artefacts and full-scale recreations of traditional Bahraini life before the oil era. The Burial Mounds and Dilmun Hall are especially fascinating, offering a closer look at one of the ancient world’s major trading civilisations and the UNESCO-listed burial sites across Bahrain. The experience is quite immersive, as visitors move through recreated souqs, workshops and traditional homes filled with craftsmen, textiles and historical details. The museum also hosts regular local and international exhibitions, cultural and educational events, alongside children's programmes that include the popular Little Archaeologist exhibit where kids try their hand at excavation. There's also a delightful café with views over the adjacent lake, a gift shop and a courtyard with rotating exhibitions of local art.

For those craving a quieter kind of indoor activity this summer, Epilogue offers a welcome change of pace. Located on the first floor of Villagio Mall in Janabiya, the creative space is designed to help people slow down, connect and rediscover the joy of making things with their own hands. They offer a wide selection of freestyle painting options, including canvases, tote bags and mirror painting, alongside beginner-friendly crafts, such as flower making, cross-stitching and stamp carving. No experience is needed – just curiosity and a willingness to explore. The space is open to all ages, so adults looking for mindful moments away from their busy routines will find it just as enjoyable as children discovering their artistic spark. And after a few hours spent painting or crafting, you leave feeling mentally less cluttered than when you arrived.

For something slower paced that explores your artistic side, Studio Ceramics offers a creative indoor escape that has quietly built a loyal following in Bahrain over the years. Established in 2007, the family-run studio was the first contemporary pottery and ceramics space in the Kingdom and remains one of the most relaxing ways to spend a few hours indoors. Guests can try hand-building pottery using techniques like pinching, coiling and slab work, or opt for glaze painting sessions where pre-made bisque-fired ceramic pieces are decorated with food safe paints. Beyond ceramics, there are also tote bag, canvas and wooden box painting workshops for those wanting to experiment with decorative mixed media. Regular events like Ladies' Night Wednesdays and The Saturday Social give it a communal feel, and June brings a special programme of indoor summer workshops for families, children and adults, along with an exclusive ‘3-for-2’ deal and 20% discount on membership packages.

As demand for electrified mobility grows, Jetour Bahrain's hybrid SUV range combines electric driving benefits with the reassurance and practicality of traditional petrol power.

Jetour Bahrain is operated by JMC Al Jazziera Motors and owned by Motorcity W.L.L., an established auto dealership with a presence in Bahrain for the past 21 years. Its current lineup ranges from petrol to hybrid SUVs, including the X50, X70, Dashing, T1, T2 and G700. Jetour’s growing hybrid SUV range – including the T1 i-DM, T2 i-DM and G700 – reflects the wider industry shift towards smarter, more sustainable mobility solutions, and is developed to ensure drivers do not have to compromise on performance, comfort or practicality.
The vehicles combine strong hybrid powertrains with advanced intelligent systems, spacious interiors, premium comfort features and versatile driving capabilities suited for a variety of lifestyles.
At the heart of the range is Jetour’s advanced i-DM hybrid technology, which combines electric power with a petrol engine to create a more efficient and versatile driving experience. Unlike fully electric vehicles that rely entirely on charging infrastructure, plug-in hybrids allow drivers to use electric power for shorter daily journeys while still having the reassurance of a petrol engine for longer trips. This helps address one of the biggest customer concerns surrounding the transition to electric mobility: range anxiety.
The T1 i-DM offers a more urban-focussed interpretation of hybrid SUV mobility. Combining rugged-inspired styling with intelligent hybrid efficiency and advanced technology, the model is aimed at customers with active lifestyles and daily city driving needs. Powered by a 1.5TD hybrid-dedicated engine and supported by a high-efficiency hybrid system, the T1 i-DM focusses on

smooth performance, reduced energy consumption and everyday usability. Its distinctive design has also earnt international recognition, including the prestigious Red Dot Design Award. For customers seeking greater versatility and adventure, the brand's top-selling T2 i-DM expands the experience with advanced hybrid performance, intelligent driving systems, spacious practicality and long-distance capability. Designed to adapt between daily commuting, family travel and weekend exploration, the SUV offers more than 1,000km of combined driving range alongside features such as vehicle-to-load functionality, premium cabin technologies and advanced safety systems. Its hybrid performance also delivers 600hp and 0-100km/h acceleration in 5.5 seconds.
At the top of the lineup, the G700 represents Jetour’s most advanced hybrid SUV offering to date, combining powerful dual-motor hybrid performance with premium luxury and serious off-road capability. Highlighting the strength of the brand’s hybrid engineering, the luxurious six-seat SUV produces 904hp and accelerates from 0-100km/h in 4.6 seconds, while integrating advanced terrain technologies and intelligent driver assistance systems.
Through the T1 i-DM, T2 i-DM and G700, Jetour continues to demonstrate how hybrid technology is evolving beyond simple fuel efficiency, focussing on smarter, more flexible vehicles that offer the comfort, capability and performance expected from today’s modern SUVs.

Operated by Bahraini Asian Motors
W.L.L. and owned by Motorcity W.L.L., Chery Bahrain continues to grow its lineup of modern, technology-driven SUVs and saloons.

Motorcity has been representing Chery, the Chinese automotive brand, in Bahrain for the past 21 years, steadily building a presence on the island with a growing portfolio of modern, practical and value-driven vehicles.
The current Chery lineup in the Kingdom includes the Tiggo 9, Tiggo 8, Tiggo 7 and Arrizo 5. Among them, the Tiggo 7 and Arrizo 5 continue to rank among the brand’s best-selling models in the market.
Leading the range is the Chery Tiggo 9 PHEV, the brand’s flagship plug-in hybrid SUV. Positioned as a premium seven-seater SUV, it offers strong performance, AWD capability, long driving range and a high-tech cabin. In global markets, the model is equipped with a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine paired with a dedicated hybrid transmission, producing a combined output of up to 315kW and 580Nm of torque. It can deliver an electric-only driving range of up to 170km and, depending on market specifications, a total driving range of around 1,250km.
While the Tiggo 9 and Tiggo 9 PHEV share the same flagship SUV character, luxury design, spacious seven-seat layout and advanced technology, the key distinction lies in the powertrain. The standard Tiggo 9 uses a conventional petrol engine, making it a strong and refined family SUV for customers who want performance, comfort and practicality in a premium package.
The Tiggo 9 PHEV, on the other hand, introduces Chery’s advanced plug-in hybrid technology, combining a turbo petrol engine with an electric motor system. This allows drivers to

enjoy electric-only driving for daily commutes, improved fuel efficiency, lower emissions and an extended total driving range for longer journeys.
The result is an SUV that combines the quiet efficiency of an electric vehicle with the long-distance confidence of a traditional petrol engine, offering families a future-ready SUV without range concerns.
Customers can visit the Chery Bahrain showroom in Sanad to test drive both models.

In a region where SUVs are expected to handle family life, weekend escapes and daily traffic chaos, the Toyota RAV4 arrives looking pleasantly unbothered by all of it.
During our inspection and test drive of the RAV4 Hybrid, what stood out most was how naturally everything came together. Instead of chasing gimmicks, it focussed on making everyday driving easier, smoother and far more enjoyable than we expected. After a long day on crowded roads, there’s something comforting about a car that doesn’t require a PhD just to adjust the air-conditioning.
The RAV4 Hybrid carries styling that feels modern without trying too hard. Toyota has given it genuine SUV presence, while keeping the design clean and approachable.
Our test-drive model featured 17-inch alloy wheels, projector LED headlamps and a rear spoiler that added just enough visual sharpness to keep things interesting. The front-end design looked especially sharp under city lights, while the sculpted body lines gave the SUV a more athletic stance than we expected from something built with practicality so clearly in mind.
From certain angles, the RAV4 looked adventurous. From others, it looked effortlessly urban. Impressively, it managed both. The powered side mirrors with integrated signal indicators added to the premium feel, while the proportions made the vehicle easy to manoeuvre in tighter urban spaces.
Inside, the SUV immediately felt welcoming. Toyota’s horizontal dashboard layout gave the cabin an open, organised appearance, while the thoughtful positioning of controls made everything feel intuitive from the outset.
Fabric seats might not sound glamorous on paper, but during our drive they proved supportive and comfortable. The 60:40 split rear seats also added useful practicality for shopping bags and travel cases alike.
The cabin felt airy and functional, with good visibility and enough storage to keep daily clutter under control. Better still, nothing seemed hidden behind endless layers of touch-sensitive mystery. And thankfully, the climate controls still behaved like actual climate controls instead of an advanced escape room challenge.
Technology inside the cabin focussed less on showing off and more on making life easier. The 10.5-inch display audio system delivered clear graphics and responsive controls, while Bluetooth, USB and radio functionality kept connectivity simple and accessible throughout our drive.
The six-speaker audio setup delivered clear, balanced sound –even when a coworker’s playlist selection didn’t!
Ahead of the driver, the clean instrument display and combination meter kept key information easy to read at a glance.
Features like the wireless charger and steering wheel mounted audio controls added everyday convenience, while the speed sensitive electric power steering contributed to a driving experience that felt light and relaxed in urban environments.

During our test drive, the hybrid system quickly became one of the RAV4’s strongest highlights. Power came from a 2.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine paired with a permanent magnet synchronous motor, producing a combined experience that felt smooth, responsive and impressively refined.
The E-CVT transmission delivered power seamlessly, particularly in stop-start traffic where the hybrid setup really came into its own. Low-speed acceleration felt immediate and effortless, while the transition between electric and petrol power remained smooth enough that we often forgot it was happening.
Toyota’s newly developed E-Four drive system also added reassurance, especially when road surfaces became less predictable. Combined with Drive Mode Select options, including EV, ECO, Normal and Sport, the RAV4 adapted easily depending on whether we wanted maximum efficiency or a more responsive experience.
Most importantly, the RAV4 Hybrid made daily driving quieter,

“From certain angles, the RAV4 looked adventurous. From others, it looked effortlessly urban.” “
smoother and noticeably less stressful – which, in regional traffic, may qualify as modern engineering wizardry.
Safety and driver assistance technologies were clearly a major focus during the RAV4 Hybrid’s development. Features including Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, ABS, Electronic BrakeForce Distribution and Brake Assist all worked together quietly in the background to support the drive.
Parking sensors and the rear view camera proved especially useful in tighter parking spaces, while the brake hold function added comfort during longer commutes.
Toyota has also included a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System and curtain side airbags, adding further reassurance for both drivers and passengers.
What stood out most was how naturally these systems integrated into the experience, supporting the drive in a calm, confidence building way.
By the end of our time with the Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, it became clear why the model continues to resonate with such a wide audience. It blended efficiency, practicality, comfort and technology into a package that felt polished, capable and genuinely enjoyable to spend time in. The RAV4 Hybrid doesn’t rely on unnecessary complexity. Instead, it focusses on the things people actually use and appreciate every day.
And in a market filled with increasingly complicated SUVs, that approach felt refreshingly confident. ✤

Gloss carbon fiber accents, stealth matte finish, and the unmistakable presence of the BMW X6 M Competition — perfected by HD Auto.
The newly revealed Vision BMW ALPINA is a design study that heralds a new era for a brand defined by extreme capability, sophistication and the mastery of both performance and comfort.

Presented at the 2026 Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este as a one-off design study, the Vision BMW ALPINA is a respectful interpretation of the brand’s heritage, shaped by the most contemporary creative instincts. At 5,200mm in length, its presence is substantial: wide, low and confident. The coupé roofline is long and raked, its form immediately signals both speed and the ability to accommodate four adults in genuine comfort. A V8 powertrain drives the experience, tuned to produce the characteristic notes of the Alpina exhaust: rich and deep at low speed, sonorous at high revs.
The front end is defined by powerful volumes. The shark nose – a signature that traces back to the Alpina B7 – reinterprets BMW’s kidney grille as a three-dimensional sculpture that leads the car’s form. From the nose, the exterior is organised around a single visual axis: the speed feature line. Rising from the lower front corners at a six-degree inclination, it runs along the side of the body and wraps around the rear.
The modernised deco-lines are distilled and painted on the side of the body beneath the clear coat. A warm white tone characterises the daytime running lights and traces the kidney surrounds. Clear-cut illuminated crystals add a precise highlight within the slender lamps.
The elliptical four-pipe exhaust remains, as does the ALPINA lettering – reinterpreted as a machined, polished metal element on the lower front apron. The 22-inch front and 23-inch rear wheels feature the 20-spoke design that has been a constant at Alpina since 1971.
The cabin is generous in space, material quality and the care with which technology has been integrated. The six-degree speed feature line continues through the interior, dividing the darker upper segment and the lighter lower segment. Full-grain leather – sourced from producers across the Alpine region – pairs with stitching inspired by the Deco-lines.

Craft details are restrained but well considered: a bridge stitch inspired by historic steering wheel hand-stitching appears sparingly in heritage blue and green colours, while a watchmaking-inspired bevelling technique was used for the metal components, combining satin and polished finishes. Clearcut crystal is reserved for the controls.
Behind the rear console, a glass water bottle sits beside BMW ALPINA crystal glasses that rise on a self-deploying mechanism.
The Vision BMW ALPINA offers Comfort+, a setting beyond the standard BMW comfort calibration that delivers a more subtle, refined character.
BMW Panoramic iDrive, including the new passenger screen, spans the dashboard with a digital UI language crafted specifically for BMW ALPINA.
The Alpina story began in 1965 in Buchloe, Germany, a small Bavarian town in the shadow of the Alps. Burkard Bovensiepen –destined for a career in typewriter manufacturing – chose instead high-performance tuning, founding Alpina and then refining BMW road and racing cars. From the outset, his philosophy was clear: speed and comfort were complementary, not competing ambitions.
The Alpina B7 coupé of the late 1970s marked a turning point: Alpina’s philosophy was applied to a luxury car, and every model that followed was recognised as luxurious. Based on the BMW E24 6 Series, its long bonnet, wide stance and shark nose looked fast even at rest, while the cabin could comfortably carry four people across a continent. The Vision BMW ALPINA is the next chapter of that story.
Next year, customers will be able to experience the first model of the BMW ALPINA brand – inspired by the BMW 7 Series, but unmistakably BMW ALPINA. ✤

Calling all you rockers, here’s your chance to own a little piece of music history.

The world’s first commercially successful bass guitar, the Fender Precision Bass, is turning 75 and it’s a cause for celebration. Much beloved by bands such as Iron Maiden, Pink Floyd, Guns N’ Roses and Foo Fighters, the P-Bass, as it’s known, has been an industry standard for three quarters of a century, thanks to the quality and reliability of its raw, heavy sound.
The instrument was created when Leo Fender took the regular bass off its endpin, shrunk the scale and added frets to produce a guitar that anyone can learn, popular for its playability, simplicity and versatility.
Now to mark its milestone anniversary, the brand has come up with a trio of special edition precision basses that capture the history and story of a musical legend – including the 75th Anniversary American Vintage II 1951 Precision Bass. Boasting Fender’s renowned craftsmanship alongside highperformance parts, they are things of beauty as well as fully functional. But don’t forget they’re special editions, so they probably won’t be available for very long and demand is likely to be high. ✤

With more than two decades in hospitality and a career that has taken him across the globe, Oliver Weber, Director of Culinary and F&B at Sheraton Bahrain Hotel, has worked everywhere from Michelin-starred kitchens to luxury hotel operations. His experience is as vast as his culinary repertoire. He sits down to talk about street food culture, mentoring young chefs and his cooking philosophy.

Your career has taken you across Europe, the Middle East and Asia, from cruise liners to major hotel openings. What did it mean to you to relaunch the iconic Sheraton Bahrain Hotel here?
Relaunching Sheraton Bahrain Hotel has been a very rewarding milestone in my career. The hotel has a strong legacy in Bahrain, and being part of its new chapter is an exciting opportunity to combine international experience with fresh, contemporary culinary concepts while honouring its heritage.
You place strong emphasis on team development and mentoring. What do you look for in young chefs and how do you help them grow?
I always look for passion, discipline and curiosity. Skills can be taught, but attitude is everything. I believe in mentoring through hands-on leadership, encouraging creativity and giving young chefs opportunities to grow and build confidence.
Having travelled to more than 50 countries, is there one street food experience that stayed with you and perhaps still influences how you cook today?
Asia, particularly Shanghai, had a huge influence on me. The energy of street food culture, the live cooking and the simplicity of authentic flavours reminded me that great food does not need to be complicated – it just needs quality ingredients and passion behind it.
Which one dish from any of Sheraton Bahrain's restaurants best represents your culinary ethos, and why?
In general, I wouldn't necessarily stream it down into one particular restaurant or dish as such, but I think it's the philosophy that we have implemented in the restaurants – to focus on the best ingredients and the simplicity. Sometimes the less you do with a key ingredient, the better actually. ✤

To rediscover the classic elegance and the authentic taste of Italian cuisine in Bahrain, Apple Sharma embarked on a delightful culinary journey at The Ritz-Carlton, Bahrain’s Italian restaurant, Primavera.
When it comes to classically modern Italian food, no restaurant captures my heart and soul quite like Primavera. With summer in full swing and the restaurant always delivering on its promise of using the freshest ingredients, it was an easy choice for an evening out with my partner.
As we took our seats at a table overlooking the terrace, we were swiftly welcomed by an ensemble of Kalamata olives, breadsticks and a wholesome breadbasket containing tomato and rosemary focaccia, sourdough rolls and pane carasau (traditional Sardinian flatbread), served with award-winning Marfuga Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Chunky, juicy olives and house-baked bread are my weakness, and this delicious spread was so moreish that we kept going back to it throughout the meal.
The talented and ever-so-lovely Head Chef Mirsha Moreno soon joined us to walk us through the menu’s new introductions and signature dishes. To my delight, most of what she suggested was light, fresh and ideal for a summer evening – with several options for vegetarians like myself (which made my heart do a little happy dance!).
The Insalata di Carciofo opened proceedings beautifully. Fresh mixed leaves topped with strips of tender asparagus made for a lovely start to the meal. I particularly enjoyed the tangy artichoke hearts, buttery soft and paired well with Taggiasche olives (the small Italian variety), which brought an almondy-fruity flavour to the salad. Shavings of Grana Padano cheese and sweet balsamic reduction tied everything together wonderfully.
A favourite of mine was the Burrata – it was simply sunshine on a plate. Sitting on a bed of rocket with mango, grapefruit and pomegranate arils alongside cherry tomatoes and a yuzu purée, the creamy interior oozed out with every cut, blending with the vibrant seasonal fruit for a delightful explosion of flavours on the palate.
Then came the Ravioli Ai Funghi and oh my, where do I begin? They say you eat with your eyes first – in this case we ate with our eyes and noses, as the waft of truffle arrived before the plate did. The gorgeously plump ravioli peeked out beneath a frothy cloud of Primavera’s signature cheese and cream foam, garnished with tiny mushrooms, fava beans and delicate green tendrils. The rich and savoury mushroom filling was encased in perfectly al dente pasta parcels, elevated to another level by the earthy depth of the truffle –a marriage made in flavour heaven. I’m not particularly fond of mushrooms, but if any dish could convert me, it would be this one. By far the dish of the evening. Gnocchi is my favourite go-to at any Italian restaurant, so I couldn’t resist trying the Gnocchi Genovese. Fluffy, pillowy potato pasta smothered in a verdant homemade pesto and finished with toasted pine nuts for crunch; it was classic comfort food done right. While we waited for the next course, we took a little breather to take in the cosy surroundings as soft Italian melodies drifted through the restaurant. In the evening, Primavera takes

on a more intimate mood. Distinctive black and gold, domeshaped downlighters cast everything in a warm, flattering glow. Beige and cream tones, crisp white linen, fresh flower arrangements and elegant crockery lend a classic sense of refinement. Cushioned seating runs along the walls, while a metal lattice divider creates a more private corner beside the grape cellars with views into the glass-enclosed kitchen. Outside, the beach feels almost within reach from the terrace, offering an al fresco setting that’s hard to top.
Soon after, the pizza oven called our names, and we decided on the signature Pizza Primavera. Arriving piping hot, we could barely wait for the plates to land before tearing a slice. True to its name (Primavera means ‘spring’ in Italian), it captured everything we associate with the season – from the freshness of the vegetables to the airiness of the dough. Surprisingly light, what really stood out to me – apart from the classic combo of creamy burrata, ricotta, spinach and truffle – was the tomato base. There’s a mastery to balancing the sauce and toppings, and Primavera absolutely nailed it.
It was now time for some protein. We opted for another signature dish and the chef’s suggestion of Branzino In Padella – the sea bass fillet sat proudly atop a generous bed of orzo pasta, accompanied by red pepper relish, basil and artichoke. The fish was cooked to perfection, soft and flaky inside with a light crispness on the outside, pairing wonderfully with the tangy kick of the relish, while fava beans brought a nice textural contrast. Both comforting and refined, it left a lasting impression.
Ending on a sweet note, we decided to treat ourselves to a decadent dessert. Having already tried the signature Tiramisu Trolley on an earlier occasion, we went for the Crostata Al Coccolato – and it didn't disappoint. This intense dark chocolate tart, dressed elegantly in edible gold leaf, was pure indulgence. A chocolate lover’s dream, the smooth and velvety chocolate mousse, combined with a buttery chocolate pastry was a slice of heaven. Sicilian pistachio gelato played a supporting role graciously on a bed of nutty pistachio brittle, but it was the tart that remained the undeniable star of the show.
To accompany the meal, our server Shampu – ever happy to accommodate any request – made us some fun and refreshing mocktails, including the Apple Spritzini with apple purée, fresh lime and soda water, alongside Passionate, a tropical blend of orange juice, pineapple juice and passionfruit syrup.
Elegant yet relaxed surroundings, friendly and knowledgeable staff serving with genuine warmth, and some of the finest Italian flavours on the island make Primavera a restaurant I find myself returning to time and time again. ✤

Astéria in Bahrain’s Adliya district delivered on its promise of ‘Greek food at its finest’, as Liz O’Reilly discovered when she headed there to try its latest offerings.

Since its launch just over a year ago, colleagues and friends have been waxing lyrical about Astéria. So, with dining very much back on the menu, I decided it was time to see what all the fuss is about.
Arriving on an early weekday evening, I was delighted to find that this Adliya hotspot has its own parking –a distinct bonus in this part of town on any night of the week. From the basement, a discreet private elevator whisked us up to the restaurant and I was immediately impressed by the level of thought that’s clearly gone into both layout and décor, not to mention the warm welcome from the service team.
The space is split into three areas: the restaurant proper; a light, airy smoking section that I was almost convinced was a terrace, except that it's fully enclosed with a great wooden gabled ceiling – definitely a plus during Bahrain’s unforgiving summers; and a swanky, moodily lit lounge area complete with abundant bar for mocktails, cocktails and more, and DJ spinning everything from Pink Floyd (slightly electro style) to Greek tunes. Walls throughout are in warm, pale tones with interesting fishythemed artworks and antiqued mirrors. Areas of tenting on the ceilings give an air of grandeur that’s reflected in the plush, comfortable seating and ambient lighting comes in multiple forms, from uplighters on walls decked with Greek-style friezes to interesting, conversation piece hanging lamps. Overall, the feel is of welcoming indulgence; everything is thoughtful and clearly intended to be savoured. Before long, we were seated and multiple dishes began to arrive. And here I must say that the tableware deserves a mention of

its own. Bulbously beautiful, pristine white bowls cradled gooey dips; plates, clearly custom made, were decked with fish and sea creatures and cutlery from Bugatti added the finishing touch to a table setting of detail after small detail waiting to be discovered. We started with a selection of house-made breads and dips and oh my, they were some of the best I’ve eaten, not just in Bahrain but, possibly ever!
Taramosalata, creamy fish paste with olive oil, salmon roe and dill, hit the flavour spot perfectly. Not overly fishy, just a delicate hint beautifully complemented by the citrussy fennel notes of the fresh herb that’s so abundant in Greek kitchens.
Tzatziki – Greek yoghurt, cucumber, garlic, fresh herbs and dill oil – was the one I’d been looking forward to all day. And it did not disappoint. Silky, fresh and smooth, the garlic cutting through the richness of the yoghurt, the whole table kept going back for more till the bowl was wiped clean.
Now, much as I adore tzatziki, the Melitzanosalata instantly became a new favourite. I had been warned about this, and my friend was absolutely right: once tasted, I just couldn’t leave it alone. With smoked eggplant purée, peppers, pickled baby eggplant, pecans and fresh herbs, it was reminiscent of a really good Baba Ghanoush but elevated by the addition of the nuts and peppers. Velvety and chunky all in one go, the skill in the fire cooking is thoroughly evident in the smoky, nutty flavour. I will go back for this alone.
At some point, orzo crackers came along. Interesting, crunchy and earthy, they were perfect for soaking up the rich, flavourful Seabass Tartare. The diced fish fillet accompanied by tomato,

cucumber, shallots, olives, capers, basil and orange gel presented an interesting taste and texture combination; the basil and orange leaving a tangy aftertaste without overpowering the delicate flavour of the fish.
Heirloom Beetroot Salad was a meal in itself. Roasted baby beetroot, slices of fresh beet, tahini yoghurt, walnut pesto, roasted orange, goat cheese and a pop of quinoa. The intense sweetness of the root was delicately balanced by the saltiness of the cheese and the earthiness of the creamy tahini layered over the nuttiness of the pesto formed a deeply satisfying forkful with the quinoa giving a slight chew amongst the other elements.
From the Hot Appetizers selection, we tried Crispy Calamari – fried calamari, pepperoncini, basil mayo, garlic sauce and black salt. I was seriously impressed to see the shape of the calamari perfectly preserved within the incredibly light batter.
A delicately briny taste formed an elegant backdrop to the flavourful accompaniments, raising an everyday dish to the level of something special, ably aided by the precisely beautiful presentation – something that seems a signature of everything from the Astéria kitchen.
The last of the starters, Crispy Baby Zucchini was another great favourite at our table. Perfect medallions, arranged by size and shape for an eye-catching display, sat on a bed of creamy tzatziki that truly cried out for dipping. These were a triumph, a superlight coating and extreme skill rendering them fluffy and puffy, the sweetness of the vegetable combining perfectly with the tartness of the tzatziki. Even when cold, they were still light and tasty without a hint of oiliness, and we all returned to this dish multiple times.

For the mains, we were served two house specialities: Ribeye on the Bone and Beef Giouvetsi. The latter is a slow-cooked Wagyu beef cheek served with Kritharaki pasta (orzo) and Graviera cheese. It was my first experience of this dish, and I can honestly say I was rendered silent, which doesn’t happen very often. Deeply umami, the slow cooking had produced a texture of such velvety softness, it literally dissolved on the tongue in a burst of almost fluid, gelatinous beefy flavour. The pasta alongside had absorbed the meat juices for a deeply, earthy and satisfying taste and mouthfeel.
The Ribeye, by contrast, was much firmer. Rich, slightly gamey and buttery, flame grilling had given it an attractive char, the ultimate meaty feast to end our savoury selection.
We couldn’t possibly leave without sampling desserts and the clear winner for me was the Greek Coffee Profiterole. I was slightly put off, since I really don’t like coffee, but since that part was only the homemade ice cream, I was happy to tuck into the deliciously light choux spheres bursting with mascarpone cream and topped by hazelnut praline. Sweet, but not too much so, and oh, so satisfying, they were a perfectly fitting end to an exceptional feast.
I could honestly go on so much longer about the joy that is Astéria – from the staff to the ambience to the amazing menu that brings the best of Greek cuisine to Bahrain. But I will just say, you simply have to try it for yourself. And, if you’ve a mind to do so, they’ve just introduced two special offers that make it even easier to fall in love. Goddess of the Aegean every Tuesday and Wednesday promises 25% off on food for ladies all evening and Astéria Date Night on Sundays and Mondays is where couples will find a special menu, table décor and more. See you there? ✤

Amira Ragab unlocks the secrets of Parker’s, discovering a French-American haven in the heart of Bahrain.

Weekends are the perfect time to scroll through social media and chill. While mindlessly scrolling, I came across the story of Parker's celebrating its 10th anniversary –that beautiful place I always pass by at City Centre Bahrain mall when running errands or meeting friends and have constantly told myself I need to try.
I was surprised to learn that it is a UAE-born, nostalgia-driven restaurant concept founded in 2015 that recreates childhood park memories through a playful dining experience. It began as a social media-fuelled 'pop-up' in Dubai’s Al Khazan Park, gaining popularity by requiring customers to find hidden keys in local parks to gain access.
Without hesitation, I called my foodie friends – my partners in crime – to suggest we go check it out. Since some of them had already visited, they easily convinced the rest of the group and assured me that my excitement was well-founded.
Upon arrival, we were met with a warmth that felt remarkably curated. Maureen, the restaurant manager, greeted us with a professional grace that immediately stripped away the sterility often associated with mall-based dining. She guided us into a space that is a triumph of design: sage-green herringbone floors meet plush velvet seating, illuminated by the soft, dramatic glow of oversized woven pendant lights. The aesthetic is distinctively trans-Atlantic; crisp white lattice frames, botanical murals and arched shelving lend the room a garden-like intimacy. From rattan chairs to personalised tableware, the room balances highend design with an inviting, lived-in warmth.
The atmosphere is a study in vibrant contrasts. The soundtrack – an ethereal collection of classic French chanson featuring the haunting, timeless voice of Édith Piaf – provided a sophisticated sonic backdrop to a room that was wonderfully alive. It was a fascinating microcosm: families shared meals as children busied themselves with staff-provided colouring sheets, granting parents a moment of respite, while nearby, digital nomads tapped away at their laptops, finding sanctuary in the ambient hum. We were fortunate enough to have a brief, enthusiastic audience with Head Chef Ramzi Alkhamis. He emerged from the kitchen not as a distant authority, but as a host, guiding us through his menu with infectious passion. We arrived at 12.30pm – the perfect window to bridge the gap between the breakfast menu and the main course lunch offerings – ideal for both early risers and night owls. Adopting the ‘more is merrier’ philosophy, we turned our table into a shared landscape of discovery.
The appetisers arrived with a flourish. The Fried Mac & Cheese squares were the definition of comfort: golden, crispy exteriors yielding to a velvet, gooey core, perfectly balanced by the bright, tangy punch of a creamy marinara. The Corn on the Cob was a masterclass in elemental cooking, perfectly charred to lend a smoky depth, elevated by a dusting of savoury Parmesan and a zesty lime ranch dressing. We also sampled the Spicy Toffee Shrimp – a triumph, balancing heat with sticky sweetness – and the Nachos Salad, a textural necessity unified by a zingy ginger-lemon dressing. For the mains, we explored the duality of the menu. The Hotel Burger was a standout classic: a juicy, savoury brisket patty on a toasted sesame bun, adorned with caramelised onions and the

rustic tang of smoked cheese, all tied together by a sharp, piquant mustard grain sauce. The Lemon Chicken was a work of art – a succulent grilled fillet paired with roasted potatoes and bathed in a bright, savoury lemon butter sauce. However, the pièce de résistance was the whipped herbal feta cream; it was a brilliant, sophisticated addition to the plate that required absolutely no improvement. Our companions, leaning into the breakfast-forlunch appeal, opted for the French Omelette and the Pressed Simit. The omelette was an exercise in delicacy – lightly folded with a molten interior – while the Pressed Simit offered a complex Mediterranean fusion, stuffed with spiced muhammara, pesto and the sharp character of Hungarian Hajdu Kashkaval cheese. Served with a side of whipped labneh and zaatar, it was a masterful study in balancing spice, creaminess and salt – brilliant. After devouring our feast, one might assume our appetites were sated. Yet, there is always room for dessert, especially after hearing poetic praise for the magnificent Matilda Cake. A dream for any chocolate devotee, its dense, moist sponge was layered with crunchy flakes and draped in glossy chocolate sauce – an intense, indulgent finale.
I briefly ascended to heaven, then was brought back to Earth by my friend’s Mango Peach French Toast. Considered as a decadent brunch centrepiece, the perfectly caramelised toast offered a warm, buttery contrast to a vibrant, fruity syrup. Finished with Greek mango ice cream, the dish’s interplay of hot and cold, and its rich, creamy texture, beautifully complemented the tropical fruit notes. Parker’s has achieved a rare feat in the culinary world, successfully evolving from a viral, ephemeral pop-up into a lasting, sophisticated

institution. It masterfully bridges the comfort of casual American dining with an elegant, distinctively French twist, proving that exceptional hospitality need not be stiff to be refined. By marrying nostalgia with culinary precision, the restaurant creates an atmosphere where everything feels considered yet effortless. Whether you are seeking a quiet corner for focussed work, a welcoming space for the family or a true gastronomic exploration, Parker’s is no longer a place to pass by – it is a destination to be savoured. ✤

With summer well and truly here, it’s time to plan that much needed vacay and hit the beach with sunscreen, drinks and a good book in hand.
Promising stunning turquoise waters and white sandy beaches, these four spectacular beach escapes capture everything from warm and wonderful to tropical and exotic. Explore our pick of the best beach holidays this summer.
You've probably seen the photos and thought it’s an Instagram filter. That pristine white sand – the kind that almost hurts to look at in direct sun – stretching along a curve of stunning turquoise water. The truth is, Boracay actually looks like that. It went through a major restoration in 2018 and has been genuinely transformed – cleaner, calmer and with a vibe that’s somewhere between lively and laid-back. Regularly ranked among Asia’s best, White Beach's four kilometres of flour-fine sand is so soft it squeaks underfoot, with waters that still only reach your knees 20 metres out. Divided into distinct zones, Station 1 at the northern end offers quiet luxury and a wide shoreline, while further south, the livelier Station 2 has restaurants, bars and souvenir shops. Sunsets are built into the itinerary, and half the island shows up to watch the sky turn bruised purple and gold over the South China Sea.
Bulabog Beach on the eastern side is a favourite among kitesurfers and windsurfers. Puka Shell Beach to the north is quieter, with a coarser, rockier feel. For snorkelling, the coral gardens around Crocodile Island are a short boat ride and worth every minute, while Ariel’s Point has become the go-to for cliff jumping. Paraw sailing (traditional outrigger boats with two sails) can be arranged in an hour, giving you the best view of the coastline.
Accommodation ranges from budget backpacker guesthouses behind the beach to upscale hotel resorts. Seafood dominates most menus – grilled prawns, crab, squid and fresh mango with practically everything. Don't
leave without trying the iconic calamansi muffins or a Chori burger from a street stall.
Go once and you'll spend the flight home already planning a trip back.

The Mediterranean gets busy in summer, but Malta still surprises with how much it packs into so little space. Sea, history, food, late evenings, more sea – it's all within easy reach and is brilliant for travellers who want beach weather mixed with a bit of city energy.
June is hard to beat. The sea is the perfect swimming temperature and the festa season is in full swing, with towns and villages honouring their local patron saints with lit-up streets, brass bands and spectacular fireworks. Valletta deserves a day or two. One of the EU's smallest capitals and a UNESCO World Heritage city, it rewards getting mildly lost – Baroque churches, harbour views, colourful balconies and narrow limestone streets that glow in late afternoon. Restaurants spill onto the pavements serving fresh lampuki fish, rabbit stew, pastizzi (flaky savoury pastries) and Kinnie, a bittersweet soft drink that's become a cult favourite.
But the coast is where Malta shines in summer. With no rivers causing sediment runoff, the water is among the clearest in the Mediterranean. The famous Blue Lagoon on tiny Comino is picture-perfect, with vivid azure waters sheltered by pale rock – arrive early before it gets busy! For something quieter, St Peter's Pool in the southeast is flat limestone above a natural swimming hole, with a 20-foot jump for the adrenaline junkies! The Red Tower coastline in Mellieħa is equally beautiful, while Golden Bay and Għajn Tuffieħa in the northwest are the best proper sandy beaches. Don't miss Gozo (Malta's quieter sister
island), with its rolling hills, clifftop walks and Ramla Bay's burnt-orange sand.
Small enough to explore in a week, Malta is a great Mediterranean option for those who like beach holidays with a little culture.
Step off the plane in Zanzibar and the scent of cloves, cinnamon and cardamom arrives before anything else.
The Spice Island lives up to its name.
The main island, Unguja, is a former Omani sultanate turned Swahili cultural hub, giving it historical character that most beach destinations rarely have. June is one of the best times to visit – the long rains have just cleared, humidity has dropped and the island is left lush and cool by the Kusi trade winds.
The northern beaches at Nungwi and Kendwa are where Zanzibar does its best impression of paradise – powdery white sand, a tide that barely moves, water you can float in for hours. You’ll find lively beach bars, sunset dhow cruises and snorkelling trips to coral reefs – Mnemba Atoll ranks among the best in East Africa and sea turtle sightings are practically a given. Resorts range from simple bungalows to polished luxury, but even the fancy ones tend to feel low-key.
On the east coast, Paje and Jambiani are quieter, with wider beaches and tides that pull back miles to reveal seaweed farms and tidal pools. They’re also some of the world’s most popular kitesurfing spots.
Stone Town is unavoidable. The old quarter is a maze of

carved wooden doors, spice stalls and coral-stone walls with centuries of Swahili, Arab, Indian and Portuguese history. Forodhani Gardens night market is where you go for the legendary Zanzibar Pizza – a street food favourite that has very little to do with Italy and everything to do with being delicious! Don’t leave without a spice farm tour, where you can hold, smell and cook with local spices. Most people come to Zanzibar for the beaches and leave surprised by everything else.
Hawaii needs no introduction, yet still manages to exceed expectations. It's one of the most isolated populated landmasses on Earth and nowhere else is quite like it. Each of the main islands has a different character. Oahu gets the crowds, and fairly so. Waikiki and Honolulu have real city energy and surf culture is built into everyday life. But drive the Kamehameha Highway along Windward Coast and things calm down quickly: small towns, roadside trucks selling garlic shrimp and shave ice drizzled with lilikoi (passion fruit) syrup. Lanikai Beach sits quietly east of Kailua with its turquoise water and two small offshore islands that most travellers never quite make it to. Maui is a calmer, polished resort experience – Kaanapali and Wailea for those who want beautiful golden sand and a sun lounger sorted by 9am. The scenic Road to Hana is absolutely worth the drive, especially for the waterfall pools. Kauai is dramatically different again: wilder, greener, with cliffs and rainforest that look like somewhere prehistoric. The Big Island is for travellers who want a slice of adventure with their beach holiday. Hike through Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, night snorkel with manta rays off Kona, or drive up Mauna Kea on a clear night for spectacular stargazing. Hāpuna Beach offers a long arc of white sand on the west coast; Papakōlea is one of the few green sand beaches on Earth; and at Punalu'u, green sea turtles lie around on jet-black sand as though they own the place. The flight from Bahrain is the longest on this list but Hawaii has a way of making it all feel worth it. ✤

A century on La Croisette, and Hôtel Barrière Le Majestic Cannes still knows exactly what it's doing. Sirine Boudjadi checks in, and finds suites overlooking the Mediterranean, a private beach and a dining scene that more than lives up to the legend.

Le Majestic opened in 1926 as part of a new wave hitting the Riviera. Cannes was still figuring itself out, European high society was flooding in, and this sleek Art Deco address landed right on cue. Built on the old Beau-Rivage site, it even did a stint as a military hospital during the war, before pivoting to what it does best: being the natural home of the Cannes Film Festival crowd. And what a crowd. Just four minutes from the Palais des Festivals, it's where the industry gravitates: Alain Delon, Catherine Deneuve, Monica Bellucci, Nicole Kidman, Sophie Marceau, Leonardo DiCaprio, Robert De Niro, Morgan Freeman. The list reads like a century's worth of call sheets.
Walk in and you get it immediately. Over 2,500 black-andwhite portraits of cinema icons line the walls across all seven floors. A constant reminder that this place has seen things, starting in the lobby. Oliver at reception sorted me out quickly and warmly, and, after an overnight journey, I was more than ready to head straight up to my room, or rather, my Prestige Terrace Sea View Suite. Seventy-five square metres of calm, sunlit, very Riviera-coded comfort. The palette is soft and understated, warm beige, sandy tones, muted greys, lifted by deep navy accents that echo the sea just outside. At the centre, a king-size bed so comfortable it almost becomes a problem because you never want to leave it.
Natural light floods in through large sliding doors, softened by sheer curtains that move gently with the breeze, creating that effortless indoor-outdoor flow that instantly makes the space feel bigger and slower. The spacious bathroom follows the same logic, with both a bathtub and a separate shower, plus Guerlain amenities adding a subtle touch of indulgence. The real highlight is the terrace. Opening onto uninterrupted views of the Mediterranean, with the pool just below (heated to 28°C year-round) and palm trees framing the scene, it feels like your own private

slice of the Riviera with sun loungers and a dining table. I also loved the welcome treats waiting on the table. Fresh fruit, delicate petits gâteaux and a chocolate reproduction of the hotel’s façade, almost too pretty to eat. Almost. The hotel features 349 rooms and suites, many of which were fully renovated and unveiled in early 2025. But for those looking to take things further, Le Majestic is also home to a few standout signature apartments. At the top of the new wing sits the Majestic Penthouse, a 450sq/m private residence designed for next-level Riviera living. Its 150sq/m terrace is the real showstopper, complete with an 11-metre outdoor pool overlooking the entire bay of Cannes. There’s also the Christian Dior Suite, which leans into a completely different universe. Designed by Dior’s longtime interior architect, it feels like stepping into the maison itself, with herringbone parquet floors, Louis XVI-style furniture and subtle nods to the house’s iconic codes. There’s even a private home cinema and during the Cannes Film Festival, it’s where celebrities come to get ready just hours before walking the red carpet, which only adds to the sense of occasion. The schedule for the day was intentionally light, exactly what you want after a long trip. A sunbed had been booked for us at Ciro’s, the hotel’s private beach, and it set the tone perfectly. The name carries its own weight on this stretch of coast. Originally founded in Deauville in 1920, Ciro’s was built on a very particular idea of French coastal glamour. The Cannes version, which opened in 2025, feels like a natural evolution: same spirit, different backdrop. On the menu, you’ll find exactly what you want from a chic Riviera beach spot: fresh salads, seafood to share, a few

indulgent signatures…
To wrap up the day, we had dinner at Fouquet’s, classic French brasserie authority, precisely executed. Worth knowing: it's set to become a Beefbar in early June, a concept I've loved in Fouquet's Saint-Barth, part of the Barrière Group, and Cyprus, and one that will bring a younger, more international energy to the address.
Day two started with one of my favourite moments: spa time. The Majestic Spa features Biologique Recherche, one of my go-to brands, and I was in expert hands with Eva for a 50-minute facial. We went for the VIP O2 range to boost radiance and revive the complexion. The treatment combined deep cleansing, gentle exfoliation and sculpting techniques designed to detoxify and lift the skin, with just the right amount of intensity to feel it.
The spa spans 450sq/m and also features a sea-facing fitness centre offering personalised training sessions, Pilates, circuit training and group classes. Speaking of movement and well-being, we were also treated to a yoga session on the beach pontoon at Ciro’s. It was very soothing, with the sound of the waves in the background, the sun warm but not overpowering, and that feeling of being completely switched off from everything else. One of those simple yet perfect travel moments.
My favourite dining experience, and easily the most intimate, was that evening’s dinner, set inside a transparent bubble tucked away in the hotel gardens, with views stretching over both the sea and La Croisette. The setting alone felt slightly surreal. A round table dressed in crisp white linen, surrounded by curved chairs with bold red velvet cushions that also keep you warm as the evening cools, and delicate pastel flowers arranged in small glass vases.
The menu, designed by Executive Chef Jean-François Barbéris, with subtle nods to his grandmother’s recipes, followed a beautifully paced rhythm: amuse-bouche, vegetable ravioli, sea bass in a salt crust with a vibrant sauce vierge. A highlight in between: a lemon sorbet paired with a citrus blossom granité, inspired by enfleurage, a traditional perfumery technique reinterpreted here. And to finish, a perfectly executed Saint-Honoré, the house signature. Service also played a big part in the experience, thanks to Adrien, our dedicated butler, who handled everything with effortless precision.
For the final day, we had lunch at another spot that will definitely resonate with GCC travellers: Mademoiselle Gray, the private beach of Hôtel Le Gray d’Albion (also part of the Barrière group). The vibe here is a little different, more beach club, a bit more upbeat, and the menu follows suit, with strong Middle Eastern influences running through it. Think labneh topped with beets and pistachios, a fresh take on fattah, crispy coriander falafel or chicken skewers

marinated in taouk spices. And then dessert, because skipping it would be a mistake, especially when it comes to the Brioche perdue inspired by Umm Ali, loaded with pistachio and citrus caramel.
The afternoon was all about fragrance. As a self-confessed perfume addict, I couldn’t have asked for a better way to wrap up the stay. Because just 25 minutes away lies Grasse, the world capital of perfume, not just in name but in heritage. It all started back in the 16th century, when scents were used to mask the smell of leather gloves. Today, it’s an entire industry rooted in tradition and craftsmanship. We began in Cannes, at the Guerlain boutique just a short walk from the hotel, for an olfactory consultation, and it turned out to be far more personal than expected. It’s not just about choosing a fragrance, but understanding what draws you to certain notes, what you want to express, even the environments where you feel most like yourself. Surprisingly introspective.
Then we headed to Grasse for a workshop at Fragonard, a family-run house since 1926. We started with a guided visit of the factory, a behind-the-scenes look at raw ingredients, extraction and formulation, before moving on to the more hands-on part. The workshop itself is simple but revealing. You’re introduced to the olfactory pyramid (top, heart and base notes) and from there, you start blending, adjusting, testing. A tiny variation can completely shift a scent, making it fresher, warmer, softer or more intense.
On the way back, we stopped in Mougins, just 15 minutes from Cannes, but it might as well be another world. The village rises in a slow spiral around its bell tower, a maze of cobbled lanes, honey-coloured stone houses and

sudden openings onto wide, hazy views of the Provençal hills. Mougins began drawing artists in the 1920s, but it was Pablo Picasso’s arrival in 1961 that gave the village its myth. He settled into Notre-Dame-de-Vie, just outside the centre, with his wife Jacqueline Roque. In that quiet retreat, he worked relentlessly, painting, sculpting, experimenting, until his death in 1973. Today, Mougins still carries that artistic energy with more than 30 galleries and studios. A different Riviera, basically. Same light, no spotlight. And that contrast is exactly what makes it work: the energy on one side, the calm just a few minutes away, all part of the same place. ✤ GO:

With royal roots and based between Bahrain, Dubai and London, talented Bahraini singer-songwriter Hassan bin Rashid Al Khalifa has built a name for himself in the music industry, touring and performing around the world. In an exclusive interview with Apple Sharma, he talks candidly about music, life between cultures and his solo career as HBR (Hassan Bin Rashid), ahead of the release of his new EPs.

fact: What first got you into music, and who were some of your earliest musical influences growing up?
HBR: I really got into rock music after a friend gave me two Ten CDs for my 18th birthday. Pearl Jam became my favourite band, and they completely pulled me into rock music. From there, I started listening to The Doors, Jimi Hendrix, Dire Straits, The Police, Led Zeppelin and many others. If I had to narrow it down, I’d say Bob Dylan, Bob Marley, Eddie Vedder, Pink Floyd and Dave Matthews influenced my songwriting the most.
fact: How would you describe your sound to someone discovering your music for the first time?
HBR: At its core, my sound is straight-up rock ‘n’ roll. I’ve recorded everything from progressive rock to more melodic, rock-driven songs with a pop edge. For my next EP, I’m diving deeper into a 1970s-inspired sound. I’m drawing influence from Pink Floyd, The Rolling Stones, The Who and Fleetwood Mac. Think distortion, reverb, delay, deep lyrics – let’s go.
fact: You grew up between cultures and countries. How have those different worlds shaped you creatively?
HBR: I loved growing up in Bahrain because it gave me just enough freedom to have fun in my younger years without things getting too crazy. Then I moved to the United States, and it was refreshing to be somewhere nobody knew anything about my background. After that, I spent a

lot of time in London, where I continued to grow creatively. London has a pulse to it. I connected with some very special musicians there and learnt a huge amount from that scene. Living back in the GCC between Bahrain and Dubai over the last decade has been great. It’s home. I’m interested in seeing how deeply I can connect with people from the region through music. Music has the power to move and motivate people, and I love that.
fact: You started out touring with bands before moving into a solo direction with HBR. What made you feel it was the right time to take that step?
HBR: I once had a conversation with Bruce Springsteen at an event, and we both agreed that bands are amazing but there can sometimes be too much freedom in the decisionmaking process. In a creative environment, that can become very challenging.
For a band to really work long term, everyone has to be fully aligned and moving in the same direction. As we’ve seen with many legendary rock bands, that’s not always easy. I found it difficult trying to keep everybody happy, focussed and connected creatively.
Going solo allowed me to continue working with many of the same brilliant musicians, but the creative process became much simpler. It was no longer a democracy. I could take full responsibility for the direction, the sound and the decisions – and
honestly, that suits me better.
Bruce actually laughed and said, “That’s exactly how I have it with the E Street Band. They’re great guys but now I make all the decisions.” Hearing that definitely felt like a good sign.
fact: You’ve got two new EPs coming out this year. When are they being released, and what can listeners look forward to this time around?
HBR: Yes, I’m really excited about these two new EPs. The first will be the fourth instalment of my Just Me Sessions series. It’s five songs recorded in a very intimate setting – just me, a guitar, a microphone and my stories, captured for both audio and video. Look out for McLaren, the third single, it’s special!
The second EP is a studio project featuring three songs: Shotgun Mary and Souls. The working title is 1976 because I’m fully embracing that classic ‘70s rock sound, plus it’s the year I was born. This EP is really the beginning of a whole series of EPs built around this sound. I’ve got a lot of material waiting to be recorded, which is a great place to be as a songwriter.
fact: What do you enjoy more – the intimacy of the studio or the energy of performing live?
HBR: Live, for sure. The studio is important – it’s the workshop. It’s where ideas come together and songs are built. But performing live and connecting with people who genuinely feel your music is something special. That feeling is addictive.
fact: You wear many hats, from musician and equestrian showjumper to managing your family’s retail business. How do you balance those very different worlds and switch gears between them?
HBR: Magic. Life is magical, isn’t it? I’m lucky to have a few different things that keep me inspired and grounded. Lately, my biggest focus has been family. My wife Joanne has been incredible in helping me find balance and a good place in life. My kids, Saif and Jude, are a blessing. I’ve found that when I focus on family and spend as much time with them as possible, I become the best version of myself. From there, I’m able to manage everything else more clearly and calmly. And music – believe it or not – is something I’ve tried to walk away from many times. But I never could. It always finds its way back out of me. At some point, I realised it wasn’t something I needed to control anymore. I just let it flow and play it back to people the way it comes to me.
fact: Is there one local or international artist you’d love to collaborate with, and why?
HBR: There’s a Bahraini oud player called Yad Oud who performs wearing a mask. He plays incredible covers and original music. I’d genuinely love to sit down and create something together one day. I think it could turn into something really unique. ✤

In a tale that feels very much of our times, the traditional toys get a rude awakening when they’re introduced to Lilypad, an electronic tablet and Bonnie’s new favourite thing. Cowboy Woody, who left the gang to help lost toys in the last instalment, is drawn back in to join his pals in what feels like a battle against an existential threat.

Director: Andrew Tiddes
Cast: Anna Faris, Regina Hall, Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans
They’re back in another comedy-horror parody romp just in time for the long summer holiday season. Cindy, played by Anna, is reinvented as a supernatural investigator who takes a youth potion – we all know how that will turn out – as she, Brenda and Shorty battle a murderous AI doll. Ghostface also returns, of course, this time dressed as various modern horror characters. The climax is chaotic and great fun.

Director: Roman Waugh
Cast: Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, Roman Griffin Davis, Amber Rose Revah
Five years after the apocalyptic comet strike of the first movie, the survivors flee their Greenland bunker when earthquakes breech the steel doors. John, Allison and their teenage son Nathan board a boat and head across a devastated and highly radiated Europe in hopes of reaching a rumoured sanctuary in the south of France. But time is running out with John suffering from worsening radiation sickness.

By The Strokes
The seventh studio album from the American rockers and their first release since 2020. The band debuted portions of the track list in their Coachella set, much to fans’ delight. But there has been mixed reaction to the lead, Going Shopping, which has been praised for its summer instrumentation but polarising with its cynical edge. While second single Falling Out Of Love gains Brownie points for its stripped-back romanticism.
By Evanescence
The band’s first album to feature bassist Emma Anzai, Sanctuary was conceived as a reaction to the political turbulence in America with the band channelling rage and anger into their songs and using music as a sanctuary. Lead single Afterlife was released last year in the soundtrack to adult animated series Devil May Cry and gained praise as a return to the band’s moody, power-metal roots. Second single, Who Will You Follow, featuring soaring operatic vocals, attracted similarly positive reviews.

They say a story’s not old until it’s told and this one made us chuckle, even though it happened a little while ago.
In August last year, a sweet-toothed black bear known as Cinnamon broke into an ice cream shop in California’s Lake Tahoe and helped himself to a three-gallon tub of chocolate chip cookie dough before making a clean getaway. According to shop owner Beth Moxley, she was impressed at the furry villain’s stealth since, unlike other bear burglars, he didn’t make a mess – just a quick

in and out with little to show for his presence other than the missing tub, a knocked over trash can and two rather large paw prints. However, a little internet research shows this is not an isolated incident. It seems bear banditry is on the rise and we discovered a more recent tale of a black bear who broke into an ice cream shop and consumed 40 pounds – around 18kg – of the sweet dessert before collapsing into a sugar coma which lasted two days. Bit like Goldilocks in reverse.
Yes, we’ve got a bit of a theme going on here – it’s amazing the wormholes you fall down once you start and we absolutely love the foolishness of this tale.
Sky News reports that three people were jailed for insurance fraud after claiming their cars were damaged by a bear – but the vandal turned out to be someone dressed in a bear suit.
In a bid to get their paws on more than USD140,000, claims were made for damage to a Rolls-Royce and two Mercedes, with home camera footage

showing the ‘bear’ in action.
The car doors even showed minor scratches imitating paw marks. But the plan unravelled when investigators showed the footage to a biologist who said it was ‘clearly a human in a bear suit’. Detectives later discovered a bear suit in one of the suspects’ homes and the game was up with all three admitting the crime and receiving 180 days in jail. It happened north of Los Angeles and we’re starting to wonder if it’s a bear thing or a California thing.
We’ve all heard of Boaty McBoatface, right? But what about Stormy McStormFace? Apparently, the UK not only gives the public the chance to name underwater research vessels and gritting machines but also storms.
Each year the Met Office gets thousands of suggestions – more than 50,000 for the current year alone – and there are some crackers in there, such as Elon Gust, Dame Judi Drench and Keir Stormer.

But, while the forecasters do, reportedly, find the ‘creative’ suggestions both clever and funny, there is a serious side with a Met Office spokesman explaining that they’d never use a comedy storm moniker since the names have an important safety function as only severe weather alerts get their own name.
A couple of those actually chosen are Dave and Wubbo – and we thought they said they were serious!
