Business Meeting Minutes AFC Communications and Marketing Commission Nov. 13, 2020 Members Present: Travis Jordan, Florida Department of Education (Chair); Tina Banner, College of Central Florida (ChairElect); Zack Blessing, Pensacola State College (Vice Chair); Greg Turchetta, Florida Southwestern State College; Paul Felarca, Broward College; Alexa Heinrich, St. Petersburg College; Lois Brauckmuller, College of Central Florida; Mary Mabins, Pensacola State College; Margaret Wilkerson, North Florida State College; Suzanne Seldes, Indian River State College; Gladys Wills-Major, Miami-Dade College; Charity LoGiudice, Seminole State College; Sharlee Whiddon, AFC. Call to Order At 10:49 a.m., the business meeting of the AFC Communications and Marketing Commission was called to order through video conferencing by Commission Chair Travis Jordan. 2020 Awards of Excellence Vice Chair Zack Blessing shared that this year the awards ceremony went to an online platform that overall produced much success. There were 212 submissions with 165 winners. Twenty-one out of 28 state colleges participated. Zack shared that we formatted the categories and placed them under divisions this year to help organize the submissions better. Print category had 109, digital had 68, misc. category had 12 and four exemplary practice were submitted. The commission raised $5,300. We worked with a company called Open Water that helped make the online submission and judging process flawless. We had 24 judges from all over the state of Florida. Tina was able to work with the Florida Public Relations Association chapters to recruit marketing and public relations practitioners to assist with the judging which was all done online. Survey results to college participants resulted in good feedback and overall satisfaction with the new process. The awards will be presented at the AFC Annual Conference next week. 2020 Spring Conference Tina Banner shared this past year the conference was conducted in partnership with the Florida Public Relations Association Ocala Chapter. The i2020 Seminar event was scheduled for April 1. Three weeks before the event the COVID-19 pandemic hit and we were forced to pivot and get creative. We had 62 registered for the in-person event and 12 speakers. It was decided to host the sessions virtually throughout the month of June and spread out the sessions. After that announcement, four participants requested a refund and two speakers were unable to be rescheduled. All participant packets were mailed out to continue to provide value to members who paid. An average of 20 people attended each session and they were all recorded for those participants who could not attend to view at a later time. Five Amazon gift cards were also given out randomly at each session to continue to provide value to participants. Speakers included a mixture of state college speakers and public relations professionals from around the state. The commission profited a little over $1,000 from the event. Survey results to participants resulted in good feedback and overall satisfaction with the event. Virtual Roundtable Travis reported that the commission held four virtual roundtable events for members to attend that featured expert panelists on different topics like digital marketing and enrollment, PR/communications, workforce education and social media accessibility coming up in December. We had approximately 28

members attend per session. Only feedback was to allow more time for members to network and ask questions among themselves. We will be continuing those in the future. Professional Development Scholarships This year the commission set aside $2,500 to award scholarships for commission members to use for professional development opportunities. We had six people apply for scholarships for the AFC Annual Conference at $150 each. We have $1,600 remains to give out in 2021. This was a way to give back to commission members. Treasurer’s Report Travis reported that the commission started the year with $28,577.55 in the CMC budget. He went through the budget with members. • We spent $2,975 on the Open Water platform • We profited $1,018.50 from the i2020 Seminar/conference • We profited $5,300 from the Awards of Excellence • We will spend $900 on professional development scholarships • We will spend $1,000 total on the winners for the Exemplary Practice and Best in Show awards • This should leave us with $29,571.85, a profit of approximately $1,000 for the year. Next year we will have expenses for the LeRoy Collins Award as well. Nominations for 2021 CMC Officers Travis shared that we have just about a full slate for next year minus someone for the Communications role. Travis asked for a motion to approve the slate as presented. Charity LoGiudice made the motion to approve the slate as presented. Paul Felarca seconded the motion. No discussion. Motion passed. NOTE: After the meeting, Alexa Heinrich from St. Petersburg College expressed an interest. Open Discussion Lois Brauckmuller asked about the update to the Magnificent 12 reprint of the book and where that project stood. Sharlee Whiddon from AFC said she would follow up to find out more. NOTE: After the meeting, Chris Thomes from Daytona State College said there were only a few chapters left and Paula Harris at St. Johns River State College is working on those layouts. We’ve been communicating over the last month or so to get this completed. It had been suggested that once the layout is finished, that we send the proof to a freelance book editor for a final professional review. Adjournment Meeting was adjourned at 11:25 a.m.

· The IRSC AFC Chapter and the Campus Coalition Government led their Annual Tools for Schools Drive--a United Way-led community partnership that provides school supplies to children in St. Lucie County for 24 years. The Chapter collected over 350 schools supplies. · The Mask for the River Committee of 20 made over 700 masks and raised over $3,500 for student scholarships. · The Chapter also created over 2,000 cards for seniors through our community partnership with Big Apple’s Slice for Seniors. January 29 - Held monthly social event at the Square Grouper Tiki Bar. The weather was great, water was beautiful, and company was better. February 16 - Held monthly social event – Lunchtime Bingo. Held Annual Valentine’s Day Carnations sale. Sold nearly 5,000 carnations! March 11: Held monthly social event – Lunchtime hike at George LeStrange Preserve. We had a great turnout and hiked around the preserve for an hour.

Fundraisers:

The Mask for the River Committee of 20 made over 700 masks and raised over $3,500 for student scholarships. February 19: Held Jeans and Jersey Day fundraiser for student scholarships. Members will be attending the Region V Spring Conference on 4/15/21

Denim Day for the Inner Truth Project was April 28. AFC raised $500 for the Inner Truth Project. May 22 is the Annual Pop Up Boutique benefiting the Inner Truth Project from 12-4. Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the door. Community Service projects will begin again before the fall semester with the annual United Way school supply drive. Jeans and Jersey Day will be every third Thursday during summer and every third Friday during the fall semester. This is going to be our monthly fundraiser.

Friday November 20 will be our Jeans and Jersey day.  December 4 we will host another drive in movie event featuring the Grinch • Community Service o We are still in need of cards for our Cards for Seniors project. If you can write a quick note to individuals who are not able to have visitors at this time bring them to Rochelle and she will take them to Big Apple Pizza. • State Update o Region 5 town hall meeting with the AFC executive committee will be on October 29. o AFC Annual Meeting will be a virtual conference this year  The chapter board is looking into purchasing a package where multiple people can log in at once. Guest Speakers: Dr. Kim Massnick gave a presentation on the Cold Case Institute. The Institute is a student focused program provided to Criminal Justice students in partnership with the Martin County Sheriff’s Department. MCSD shares details from unsolved cases with the institute and students are able to assist in the investigation. To date 6 cases have been investigated through the institute. The students are actively involved in digitizing the materials for the MCSD as part of the project. Students gain hands on experience with active police cases through their participation in the institute. Discussion:

Mentoring program aimed at encouraging students to complete high school and go on to complete a college degree. The program is intended to remove the financial burden of tuition for program participants. AFC Scholarships  Through IRSC Foundation mentors work with high school students in Martin, o Jan 30 deadline Indian River, St. Lucie, and Okeechobee counties. o Select box for AFC membership on the IRSC scholarship application  Florida Prepaid scholarships purchased for each award winner, scholarship is for LRC Exemplary Practice 4 years, two years AA/AAS degree at IRSC then they can stay for bachelor's Additional AFC Announcements degree here or transfer to another state college in the state. Scholarship can o VP Elect for Commissions John Barbieri also be used for non-degree programs at IRSC.  John will be giving the chapter an update from the Executive Board meetings  Mentoring is now virtual because of the pandemic. Mentors meet with students every month. at least twice a month. Mentors are advocates for the student’s needs. Also there to listen and guide students.  Steps to become a mentor are filling out an application, getting background check, training, and then jumping into mentoring.  Application to become a mentor is available on the IRSC Foundation website.  Opportunity for group mentor presentations. 

At 2:00, Feb. 18, the performing arts students will be having their last dress rehearsal, for their play this weekend, at the gazebo outside the library. Everyone is welcome to attend. At 5:30 today Dr. Anderson will be presenting on Zoom. Dr. Anderson is one of the last living fathers of the Civil Rights movement. Rename to better reflect the goals of the department in coordination with the college.

Current Events: Jeans and Jersey day is tomorrow, April 16. You can purchase a button to use for the rest of the year, or you can pay $5 for individual days. Check with your campus representative about the cost for prepaying for the year. Saturday, April 17, Summer Crush Winery for social event. A Journey and Chicago Tribute band will be playing from 1-4pm. Tickets are required. Denim Day is April 28. $5 donation goes to the Inner Truth Project. This is the April community service project. Donate at your campus Student Services department, or Student Affairs on Massey Campus. May 22, 12-4, pop up boutique at IRSC. $40 for a ticket to get into the boutique. If you would like to donate you can donate gently used women’s clothing. At the SEAL awards last night Emlynn Anderson was awarded the Faculty of the Year along with the Advisor of the Year award. May Chapter Luncheon will be the legislative update, May 20. AFC Executive Board will be meeting tomorrow. The Board is recommending, to the Council of Presidents, Marsha Kiner to serve as the Executive Director. Giovanni is having to step down as VP Elect for Commissions because of his schedule. If anyone is willing to serve as VP Elect for Commissions he is happy to recommend them for the role. Called to order 12:35 pm Welcome by Chapter President We want to welcome our guests from AFC, Interim Executive Diretor, Marsha Kiner and AFC President, Matt White. Treasurer’s Report: Masks for the River has raised $3993.55 There are no other changes to report. Community Service Projects: Over the summer AFC participated in several projects. The School Supplies drive for the United Way gathered 351 items. We have created over 2,000 cards for the Cards for Seniors project. The Masks for the River project has provided over 700 masks. The drive in movie had 175 vehicles attend. On September 22, from 11-1, we will be hosting a National Voter Registration Day event with the League of Women Voters in the KSU. The Pioneer 5k is going to be in October and registration is open. You can join the AFC team when you register for the event. Registration is $35. Social Committee Update: The next social will be a “Wine and Crime” event with Dr. Kim Massnick Guest Speakers: Why AFC? Interim Executive Director, Marsha Kiner shared her AFC journey and talked about the importance of friendships and connections made through being an AFC member. AFC wants to hear from the members and if you have suggestions for AFC please send them to the Board of Directors. AFC President shared his AFC journal and talked about his goals for 2020, which were redirected because of the pandemic. His goals are to get all 28 chapters involved and active again in AFC. During the pandemic AFC has rolled out professional development opportunities online for members. All of the recordings are available on the AFC website, myafchome.org. After the change in Executive Director AFC has begun online town hall style meetings to get input from different stakeholders on where AFC needs to focus in the future. AFC leadership and the Board of Directors met with all the presidents of the FCS schools and are now looking to expand the town hall sessions to other constituents. The big question AFC is wanting input on is “Where does AFC go from here?” AFC leadership plans to summarize the data gathered during the town hall meetings and present it during the Annual Conference.

Cheryl Worlow shared her AFC journey and talked about the value of joining Commissions, chapter activities, AFC communications and publications, and the networking opportunities AFC offers. Mike Pelitera shared his AFC journey and talked about how the chapter meetings introduce topics that are interesting not only professionally, but also personally. The AFC community is there to support members and help develop relationships between members. He encouraged everyone to invite a coworker to join AFC. Taylor Kilman shared the benefits of being an AFC member. In addition to the professional development, social gatherings, and community service opportunities AFC members receive discounts on a variety of things like travel and theme park tickets. Discounts for members can be found on the AFC website. Brenda Rante shared ways to get involved with AFC locally. The IRSC chapter has many ways you can get involved from joining the chapter Board to joining one or all of the 5 committees. Members and their immediate family are eligible for scholarships. The chapter also has many events like social gatherings, community service, professional development, and the monthly chapter meetings. Lynne O’Dell shared ways members can get involved with AFC on the state level. There are 14 Commissions in AFC that focus on certain topics of interest to members and Commissions are a great way to network with workers at other FCS institutions. The full list of Commissions is available on the AFC website. Members can join up to three Commissions and membership is not limited to job function. Giovanni Barbieri shared his campaign for Vice President Elect of Commissions. Elections will be November 18-20 and members will receive an email with a link to the ballot. Gio’s platform is Unity Pride and Service and wants to focus on growing membership in Commissions and exploring how Commissions can serve their members better. You can stay connected through the AFC website, myafchome.org, through the IRSC chapter page and Facebook page, as well as the IRSC chapter page in RiverLife. BYLAWS INDIAN RIVER STATE COLLEGE CHAPTER of the Association of Florida Colleges

ARTICLE I Name The name of this organization shall be the Indian River State College Chapter of the Association of Florida Colleges (AFC). ARTICLE II Purpose The purpose of this Chapter will be to promote communications within Indian River State College, between Indian River State College and colleges within the Florida College System, between Indian River State College and the general public, and to support the purposes of the Association of Florida Colleges as stated in its Bylaws. ARTICLE III Membership Section A.

Eligibility

Membership in this Chapter is open to all employees, Trustees, Retirees of Indian River State College, and other individuals who support the purpose of the Association upon payment of the stipulated annual dues. Section B.

AFC Dues

Each member will be assessed annual dues by AFC. Section C.

Chapter Dues

Chapter dues will be levied at the discretion of the Chapter Executive Board based upon a member’s annual salary or employment status at Indian River State College. The amount of the annual dues will be reviewed and published annually within one month of the President taking office on January 1 of each year.

IRSC AFC Chapter Scholarship Program Bylaws with Scholarship Criteria ARTICLE IV Officers Section A.

Officers

The elected officers of this Chapter will be President, President-Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, and Membership Chairperson. The appointed officers are identified in Section C. Section B.

Elected Officers

President, President-Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, and Membership Chairperson will be elected by the membership for a term of one year, commencing each year on January 1. Elections will be held annually prior to state convention, but no later than January of each year. Section C.

Appointed Officers

The incoming Chapter President will appoint for a term of one year, commencing on January 1, a slate of appointed officers to fill the positions listed. Duties of these appointed officers are determined by these bylaws and by the incoming Chapter President. The Chapter President may also appoint persons to temporary positions not named in the bylaws to fulfill specific duties provided a majority of the Executive Board approves the individual and the temporary position. Duties of Officers

Preside at the meetings of the Chapter and the Executive Board. Represent the Chapter in all matters. Call meetings of the Executive Board. Serve as a delegate to the AFC Assembly of Delegates. Establish and appoint members to committees, as necessary, and serve as an ex-officio member of each such committee. Submit recommendations for commission seats to the Administration of IRSC. Assign members of the Executive Board to appropriate commissions. The President-Elect will:

Organize and direct membership drives. Collect AFC and IRSC Chapter dues for payment to the Chapter Treasurer. Provide membership information to the Chapter. Maintain a current roster and provide a copy of said roster to the State AFC Office. Perform duties assigned by the Chapter President.

Executive Board

Executive Board will consist of the elected officers of the Chapter. The immediate Past President will serve as an ex-officio member of the Executive Board.

IRSC AFC Chapter Scholarship Program Bylaws with Scholarship Criteria The Executive Board will: Serve as a Membership Committee. Plan for regular meetings of the Chapter. Review proposals from the State Organization, the State Legislature, the Division of Florida Colleges, and any other agencies having any effect upon Indian River State College and recommend appropriate action. Develop policy recommendations concerning Chapter affairs and submit them to the Chapter as appropriate. Supervise implementation of approved policies. Serve as representatives of appropriate commissions as assigned by the Chapter President. In case of an elected office vacancy, the Executive Board shall appoint a replacement to serve until the next election. Authorize expenditures of the Chapter funds.

Appointing Committee Officers

Prior to the first chapter meeting of the calendar year, the President and members of the newly-elected Board shall appoint committee officers, referred to as chairpersons, who are responsible for the leadership in specific areas. With the exception of the Scholarship Committee, the committee chairs will hold their positions for a period of one year, starting on January 1. Each committee officer position may be filled by more than one individual at the discretion of the Chapter President and the majority approval of the Executive Board.

Scholarship Committee – The Past President of the IRSC AFC Chapter will serve as chair of the Scholarship Committee. In the event that the Past President cannot serve in this capacity, the current President will serve as the committee chair. The Scholarship Committee will also consist of an appointed representative from the Financial Aid Office, an appointed representative from the Foundation Office, the elected President for the year, and the Secretary. Appointed representatives from the Financial Aid and Foundation Offices are encouraged to serve as standing advisors to the committee and do not have to be officially appointed each year.

Communicate with members to serve on the committee at the beginning of the year. Organize meetings to discuss the status of scholarships. Work with Financial Aid and the Foundation to organize the list of scholarship applicants to be presented to the Board at the appropriate time in the year. Evaluate the selection process, criteria, and awarding of AFC scholarships and present changes in process to the Board. Work with the elected President to prepare the presentation of the awards and communication with the scholarship candidates.

The Bylaws will be adopted upon an affirmative vote by two-thirds of the membership in attendance at a general meeting of the Chapter following proper notice.

IRSC AFC Chapter Scholarship Program Bylaws with Scholarship Criteria •

The Bylaws may be amended at any meeting of the Chapter by concurrence of two-thirds of the members in attendance provided the amendment has been submitted in writing to the members at least 10 days prior to the meeting in which it is introduced. Minor changes to the bylaws may be made by the Executive Board (e.g., locational changes, committee names, punctuation and formatting, etc.) without chapter approval. ARTICLE IX

Chapter Meetings

Meetings of the Chapter will be announced to the membership at least one week in advance of the meeting, except in the case of emergency and upon two-thirds vote of the Chapter Executive Board. Meetings may be called by the Chapter President, the Chapter Executive Board, or upon a documented request from at least 20% of the current membership.

BYLAWS INDIAN RIVER STATE COLLEGE CHAPTER of the Association of Florida Colleges

ARTICLE I Name The name of this organization shall be the Indian River State College Chapter of the Association of Florida Colleges (AFC). ARTICLE II

Section 15 Chapter Organization

Purpose The purpose of this Chapter will be to promote communications within Indian River State College, between Indian River State College and colleges within the Florida College System, between Indian River State College and the general public, and to support the purposes of the Association of Florida Colleges as stated in its Bylaws. ARTICLE III Membership Section A.

Eligibility

Membership in this Chapter is open to all employees, Trustees, Retirees of Indian River State College, and other individuals who support the purpose of the Association upon payment of the stipulated annual dues. Section B.

AFC Dues

Each member will be assessed annual dues by AFC. Section C.

Chapter Dues

Chapter dues will be levied at the discretion of the Chapter Executive Board based upon a member’s annual salary or employment status at Indian River State College. The amount of the annual dues will be reviewed and published annually within one month of the President taking office on January 1 of each year.

ARTICLE IV Officers Section A.

Officers

The elected officers of this Chapter will be President, President-Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, and Membership Chairperson. The appointed officers are identified in Section C. Section B.

Elected Officers

President, President-Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, and Membership Chairperson will be elected by the membership for a term of one year, commencing each year on January 1. Elections will be held annually prior to state convention, but no later than January of each year. Section C.

Appointed Officers

The incoming Chapter President will appoint for a term of one year, commencing on January 1, a slate of appointed officers to fill the positions listed. Duties of these appointed officers are determined by these bylaws and by the incoming Chapter President. The Chapter President may also appoint persons to temporary positions not named in the bylaws to fulfill specific duties provided a majority of the Executive Board approves the individual and the temporary position. Section D. I.

Duties of Officers

Executive Board

Executive Board will consist of the elected officers of the Chapter. The immediate Past President will serve as an ex-officio member of the Executive Board.

The Executive Board will: Serve as a Membership Committee. Plan for regular meetings of the Chapter. Review proposals from the State Organization, the State Legislature, the Division of Florida Colleges, and any other agencies having any effect upon Indian River State College and recommend appropriate action. Develop policy recommendations concerning Chapter affairs and submit them to the Chapter as appropriate. Supervise implementation of approved policies. Serve as representatives of appropriate commissions as assigned by the Chapter President. In case of an elected office vacancy, the Executive Board shall appoint a replacement to serve until the next election. Authorize expenditures of the Chapter funds.

ARTICLE V Appointed Committees of the Board Section A.

Appointing Committee Officers

Prior to the first chapter meeting of the calendar year, the President and members of the newly-elected Board shall appoint committee officers, referred to as chairpersons, who are responsible for the leadership in specific areas. With the exception of the Scholarship Committee, the committee chairs will hold their positions for a period of one year, starting on January 1. Each committee officer position may be filled by more than one individual at the discretion of the Chapter President and the majority approval of the Executive Board.

Scholarship Committee – The Past President of the IRSC AFC Chapter will serve as chair of the Scholarship Committee. In the event that the Past President cannot serve in this capacity, the current President will serve as the committee chair. The Scholarship Committee will also consist of an appointed representative from the Financial Aid Office, an appointed representative from the Foundation Office, the elected President for the year, and the Secretary. Appointed representatives from the Financial Aid and Foundation Offices are encouraged to serve as standing advisors to the committee and do not have to be officially appointed each year.

Evaluate the selection process, criteria, and awarding of AFC scholarships and present changes in process to the Board. Work with the elected President to prepare the presentation of the awards and communication with the scholarship candidates.

Delegates to the Assembly of Delegates Section A. •

The number of Assembly Delegates will be selected on a one to ten ration, e.g., one delegate per ten paid individual members. Each delegate must be a current member of AFC.

Members of the current and incoming Chapter Executive Board will serve as delegates.

The College President or his/her designee shall serve as a delegate.

The Bylaws will be adopted upon an affirmative vote by two-thirds of the membership in attendance at a general meeting of the Chapter following proper notice.

The Bylaws may be amended at any meeting of the Chapter by concurrence of two-thirds of the members in attendance provided the amendment has been submitted in writing to the members at least 10 days prior to the meeting in which it is introduced. Minor changes to the bylaws may be made by the Executive Board (e.g., locational changes, committee names, punctuation and formatting, etc.) without chapter approval. ARTICLE IX

Chapter Meetings

Meetings of the Chapter will be announced to the membership at least one week in advance of the meeting, except in the case of emergency and upon two-thirds vote of the Chapter Executive Board. Meetings may be called by the Chapter President, the Chapter Executive Board, or upon a documented request from at least 20% of the current membership.

AFC Chapter Board Meeting Minutes June 4, 2020 Attendees: Rochelle Popp-Finch, Keri Hughes, Taylor Kilman, Erika Strowbridge, Gail Sheets, Brenda Rante, Ann Hubbard, Giovani Barbieri, Kelly Beal, Leslie Simpson, Lynne O’Dell, Zain Al-Turk, Cheryl Worlow, Brett Williams The meeting was called to order at 12:36PM President’s Welcome (Rochelle): The Region 5 conference was awesome. Thank you to everyone who was able to attend. We had a great turnout for Dr. Massey’s welcome and Andy Treadwell’s legislative session. The baby pictures, submitted by IRSC AFC members, were shared with the group. We had approximately 50 employees participate. Approval of Minutes: The minutes were approved with corrections. Chapter Meetings Discussion: (Rochelle) ● With everyone’s permission Rochelle would like to share the baby pictures at the next chapter meeting. There were no objections from the board members in attendance who submitted their pictures. ● Dr. Massey has a conflict on the 3rd Thursday of the month. We could look into moving the meeting to the 4th Thursday for June. ● Attendance has increased for the virtual chapter meetings. ○ Once we go begin working on campus again, and start in person meetings should we continue to offer virtual options to attend the meetings? We could stream the meetings so employees at the other campuses can participate if they are not able to attend in person. This would be beneficial for both chapter and board meetings. Treasurer’s Report: (Kayla Crenshaw) ● Current funds are $6,971.77 ○ The Masks for the River service project has raised $1,207 so far for scholarships. State, Region, and Commissions Updates: ● Brenda thanked everyone again for attending the Region 5 Conference ○ Total registrations for the conference was 182 ○ 102 participants logged in for Dr. Massey’s welcome ○ The average attendance for all sessions throughout the day was around 80 ● Giovani is campaigning for the Vice President Elect of Commissions ○ He would appreciate anyone who is able to help with the campaign

Social Committee Update: (Lynne O’Dell) ● The IRSC AFC Virtual Spirit Week had a lot of participants. Thank you to everyone who was able to participate. ● We are still hopeful we can hold the August “Welcome Back” social at Sailfish Brewing Company. The date is still to be determined ● The Social Committee is looking for ideas for virtual social events the chapter can host/sponsor ○ Maybe another virtual happy hour Service Committee Update: (Rochelle) ● We are participating in creating cards for seniors in conjunction with Big Apple Pizza and the Van Duzer Foundation’s Slice for Seniors Campaign. ○ To date we have supplied 1,479 cards for senior citizens in our community who are not able to have visitors during the pandemic ○ Cards are still needed and the project will continue to run throughout the pandemic ● Masks for the River is our other service project ○ If you have blue or yellow fabric, either t-shirt fabric or “quick dry” fabric, please send it to the Print Shop and Gail will make use of the fabric ○ We are also needing thread to sew the masks Open Forum: Fridays are our Pioneer Pride days. The attendance was great. Should the recording of the last chapter meeting be sent out by request or should we send it to everyone? ● Sending it to everyone will give more people an opportunity to learn more about AFC, members and non-members ● The board members agreed we should send the chapter meeting recordings to all IRSC employees. Going forward the presenters can choose the platform that they are most comfortable with, Blackboard Collaborate, Zoom, ect. Rochelle will send an updated link for the chapter meetings depending on what platform the presenter chooses. Approval of Minutes: The minutes were approved. Treasurer’s Report: (Kayla) ● Current funds are $8,201.82 ○ The Masks for the River service project has raised $4393.55 State Updates: ● Brenda shared that the Region 5 town hall meeting with the AFC Executive Board will be on October 25 at 2:00. ○ Gio mentioned AFC wants members to participate and share why they decided to join AFC. ○ The Executive Board is also looking to use data collected during the meetings to share with FCS presidents why AFC is an important organization. ○ Gio is interested in getting more chapters involved at the colleges and would like to see all 28 chapters become active in AFC. ○ What is AFC’s purpose? ■ We don’t talk about students much at the state level ○ Gio would like to look into rebranding Commissions ○ What made AFC appealing to college presidents originally? ■ Every college gives money for membership but some might not feel like they are getting any benefits ● Brenda let us know nominations for Unsung Hero awards are open.

Commission Updates: ● Lynne let us know the Administration Commission awards were submitted ○ She is also stepping down from the Chair position after this year Social Committee Update: (Lynne) ● Next Friday we will have a “Cider and Crime” event with Kim Massnick at Pierced Cider ○ The event will be from 5:15 - 7:00 outside ● December 4 co-sponsoring another drive in movie featuring “The Grinch” ○ Would like for members to dress up as Who’s and someone as The Grinch ○ This event is made possible by the Children’s Service Council whose mission is to promote literacy ● Ideas for upcoming social activities ○ Another Spirit Week in November ○ Lunchtime Hike ○ Jeans and Jersey day event, possibly the Friday before Thanksgiving Service Committee Update: (Rochelle) ● We are in need of handmade cards for the Cards for Seniors/Slices for Seniors project ○ They can be short notes to individuals living in assisted living facilities with limited access to family members ● Masks for the River is a fundraiser for scholarships and a community service project Open Forum: ● Geegee created a promotional flyer for the AFC Chapter. Thank you Geegee. ● Rochelle is setting up a meeting with Dr. Moore to explain why AFC is important to the college. ○ Anyone interested in attending is welcome ● The Chapter includes CCG in activities because it is important to keep our focus on students and their success ● Brenda let us know that Darby, the therapy dog, died on September 25 ● The Paulie Strong Golf Tournament is going to be in November. AFC Virtual Conference: (Rochelle) • The 2020 AFC Conference is going to be virtual this year from November 16-20 o November 17-18 we will be streaming the sessions in the Bailey Auditorium if anyone would like to get together to watch in person o November 19 we will move the stream to V-125 as there is another event in the Bailey Auditorium that day o For our chapter meeting we will be hosting a cultural BINGO game ▪ Lunch will be provided for attendees o The awards ceremony will be Thursday at 3:00pm • Volunteers to help set up are needed Monday, November 16 Open Forum: • Service Projects o The Paulie Strong Golf Tournament is looking for volunteers for November 21

The service project for the holidays will be collecting food for the Pioneer Pantry Guardians for New Futures is hosting a toy drive and we are collecting new, unwrapped toys for the drive o The Purse Project will be our local community service project for the AFC conference The chapter is collecting videos from departments to promote their area of the college. Giovanni, VP Elect of Commissions, gave an update about the Executive Board meeting. AFC is concerned about the lack of interest from some of the college presidents and is working hard to promote the benefits of AFC membership to all 28 eight college presidents. ○ Mike suggested including ideas that benefit students in our monthly chapter meetings. ○ The VP of Commissions is looking for a way to increase membership and participation in the commissions. AFC is exploring ways to combine commissions and promote all of the commissions to members who currently think the commissions do not align with their role in the colleges.

Service Committee Update: (Rochelle) ● The Service Committee is looking for ideas for service projects. ○ A possible service project could be to collect children’s books for the Early Childcare Program. The program will be having story times at the Miley Library on Friday’s beginning in March.

Open Forum: • The Paulie Strong Golf Tournament raised over $10,000 making it possible to establish the Paul Lafavi Scholarship for digital media students o The plan is to have an annual golf tournament on the Saturday before Thanksgiving • Think about ideas for AFC events, meetings, socials, ect. for the semester. Please send any ideas to Taylor. o Calvin Williams would be a good person to ask to speak at a meeting o Speak with Andy Treadwell to see if we could get someone from State Representative Trabulsy’s office. • The IRSC Scholarship deadline is January 31. This includes the AFC scholarship which is open to AFC members and their dependents. • AFC was approved to have our own email address. The address is afc@irsc.edu. • Discussion on offering meals during the chapter meetings o It was suggested that we give the option to order food, but only order enough for anyone who marked they were interested in food before the meeting. ▪ This will cut down on cost and waste o The chapter usually provides a meal for the speakers • Chapter meetings will be held in V-110 or N-135 this semester, depending on availability o We will continue to schedule in-person meetings on the branch campuses this year. • Board meetings will be held in V-125 this semester

A literacy organization in St. Lucie County is going to donate 100 new books.

An idea to have a board gathering in the future. We would need approval for the chapter to buy appetizers from Chapter funds.

Other Business: The third Thursday of March falls in Spring Break so we will skip the chapter meeting for March and pick up again in April.

AFC Chapter Meeting September 17, 2020 Called to order 12:35 pm Welcome by Chapter President We want to welcome our guests from AFC, Interim Executive Diretor, Marsha Kiner and AFC President, Matt White. Treasurer’s Report: Masks for the River has raised $3993.55 There are no other changes to report. Community Service Projects: Over the summer AFC participated in several projects. The School Supplies drive for the United Way gathered 351 items. We have created over 2,000 cards for the Cards for Seniors project. The Masks for the River project has provided over 700 masks. The drive in movie had 175 vehicles attend. On September 22, from 11-1, we will be hosting a National Voter Registration Day event with the League of Women Voters in the KSU. The Pioneer 5k is going to be in October and registration is open. You can join the AFC team when you register for the event. Registration is $35. Social Committee Update: The next social will be a “Wine and Crime” event with Dr. Kim Massnick Guest Speakers: Why AFC? Interim Executive Director, Marsha Kiner shared her AFC journey and talked about the importance of friendships and connections made through being an AFC member. AFC wants to hear from the members and if you have suggestions for AFC please send them to the Board of Directors. AFC President shared his AFC journal and talked about his goals for 2020, which were redirected because of the pandemic. His goals are to get all 28 chapters involved and active again in AFC. During the pandemic AFC has rolled out professional development opportunities online for members. All of the recordings are available on the AFC website, myafchome.org. After the change in Executive Director AFC has begun online town hall style meetings to get input from different stakeholders on where AFC needs to focus in the future. AFC leadership and the Board of Directors met with all the presidents of the FCS schools and are now looking to expand the town hall sessions to other constituents. The big question AFC is wanting input on is “Where does AFC go from here?” AFC leadership plans to summarize the data gathered during the town hall meetings and present it during the Annual Conference.

Cheryl Worlow shared her AFC journey and talked about the value of joining Commissions, chapter activities, AFC communications and publications, and the networking opportunities AFC offers. Mike Pelitera shared his AFC journey and talked about how the chapter meetings introduce topics that are interesting not only professionally, but also personally. The AFC community is there to support members and help develop relationships between members. He encouraged everyone to invite a coworker to join AFC. Taylor Kilman shared the benefits of being an AFC member. In addition to the professional development, social gatherings, and community service opportunities AFC members receive discounts on a variety of things like travel and theme park tickets. Discounts for members can be found on the AFC website. Brenda Rante shared ways to get involved with AFC locally. The IRSC chapter has many ways you can get involved from joining the chapter Board to joining one or all of the 5 committees. Members and their immediate family are eligible for scholarships. The chapter also has many events like social gatherings, community service, professional development, and the monthly chapter meetings. Lynne O’Dell shared ways members can get involved with AFC on the state level. There are 14 Commissions in AFC that focus on certain topics of interest to members and Commissions are a great way to network with workers at other FCS institutions. The full list of Commissions is available on the AFC website. Members can join up to three Commissions and membership is not limited to job function. Giovanni Barbieri shared his campaign for Vice President Elect of Commissions. Elections will be November 18-20 and members will receive an email with a link to the ballot. Gio’s platform is Unity Pride and Service and wants to focus on growing membership in Commissions and exploring how Commissions can serve their members better. Guest Speakers: Dr. Kim Massnick gave a presentation on the Cold Case Institute. The Institute is a student focused program provided to Criminal Justice students in partnership with the Martin County Sheriff’s Department. MCSD shares details from unsolved cases with the institute and students are able to assist in the investigation. To date 6 cases have been investigated through the institute. The students are actively involved in digitizing the materials for the MCSD as part of the project. Students gain hands on experience with active police cases through their participation in the institute. Discussion:

Rochelle introduced herself as the chapter president and student Ombudsman. Approval of minutes: Minutes were approved as presented Treasurer’s Report: The chapter raised over $8000 for student scholarships this year. Cultural BINGO: Erika ran the Cultural BINGO for International Week Cris Merz SCUBA diving update. Working with Jupiter Dive Center to offer certifications through SDI. Local Chapter Committees: If you are interested in joining any of the chapter committees please reach out to the chairs and find out more information. This month our Service Project is collecting purses for local women’s shelters. Drop donations off to any of the Student Services departments on any campus to send to Rochelle. You can also drop them off a the Public Safety Complex. Another service project we are doing is collecting new toys for community members in need. We are also adopting families to support them during the holidays. Third Thursday of every month we meet as a chapter. Foundation Presentation •

Take Stock in Children o Introduction to TSIC staff o Program information  Mentoring program aimed at encouraging students to complete high school and go on to complete a college degree. The program is intended to remove the financial burden of tuition for program participants.  Through IRSC Foundation mentors work with high school students in Martin, Indian River, St. Lucie, and Okeechobee counties.  Florida Prepaid scholarships purchased for each award winner, scholarship is for 4 years, two years AA/AAS degree at IRSC then they can stay for bachelor's degree here or transfer to another state college in the state. Scholarship can also be used for non-degree programs at IRSC.  Mentoring is now virtual because of the pandemic. Mentors meet with students at least twice a month. Mentors are advocates for the student’s needs. Also there to listen and guide students.  Steps to become a mentor are filling out an application, getting background check, training, and then jumping into mentoring.  Application to become a mentor is available on the IRSC Foundation website.  Opportunity for group mentor presentations.

AFC Executive Board will be meeting tomorrow. The Board is recommending, to the Council of Presidents, Marsha Kiner to serve as the Executive Director. Giovanni is having to step down as VP Elect for Commissions because of his schedule. If anyone is willing to serve as VP Elect for Commissions he is happy to recommend them for the role. Work Florida will have performance based funding

Students will have a money back guarantee in which tuition will be refunded to students who cannot find employment in their field after 6 months post graduation

PECO funding for the Advanced Workforce Training Center (New O Building) ▪

Denim Day for the Inner Truth Project was April 28. AFC raised $500 for the Inner Truth Project. May 22 is the Annual Pop Up Boutique benefiting the Inner Truth Project from 12-4. Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the door. Community Service projects will begin again before the fall semester with the annual United Way school supply drive. Jeans and Jersey Day will be every third Thursday during summer and every third Friday during the fall semester. This is going to be our monthly fundraiser.

The details on how the refunds will work are still being created. The legislature does not get into the details so that will be on the FLDOE and SUS/FCS to create the program guidelines. Also, it is not clear if the refund is for every degree or certain programs. The focus in the legislature debate seemed to be on short term programs and certificates.
