Liberty returns home for its 150th anniversary interiors collection, The House of Liberty. In celebration, the design house turns to its illustrious past, documented in the drawings and manuscripts by the pioneering designers and forward-thinking artists of the time.

The interior fabric and wallpaper collection draws on pivotal moments that have defined Liberty as the leading tastemaker and artistic innovator of interior design. Framed by the rich textures and relaxed glamour of bohemian botanicals lies the genesis of Liberty, discovered in the 60,000-strong design archive. Inspired by the sophistication of artists, poets, and playwrights, The House of Liberty embodies the decades’ artistic and cultural shifts in a captivating array of harmonious juxtapositions.

Curated for contemporary interiors and exhibited through the design house’s signature colour palette, The House of Liberty is a nod to Liberty’s sartorial past. Revived through a contemporary lens, the collection pays homage to a legacy of craftsmanship and artistry. Meticulously hand-painted in the Liberty design studio, in the heart of London, and expertly crafted, using traditional and cutting-edge techniques in Italy and India.

POMEGRANATE GARDEN

Pomegranate Garden was originally created in 1965 under the creative direction of former Design Director, Bernard Nevill, as part of the trendsetting ‘Lotus’ collections of the 1960s. Meticulously redrawn and reimagined into a stylised representation of a blossoming orchard, this eclectic pattern softens bold outlines with delicate textures. Camouflaged birds nestle amidst lush foliage, while roses, tulips, irises, and bluebells intertwine with vibrant accents of delectable fruits. BOMBAZINE

Bombazine is a contemporary interpretation of the historical flame stitch, a bold, often colourful zig zag pattern achieved through a combination of different weaving techniques. Popular during the 18th century amongst Europe and its colonies, this luxurious weave was developed for Liberty. Using textural yarns, coloured with rich hues from the design house’s signature colour palette, this beautiful coordinating fabric offers a vibrant graphic contrast to the collection’s intricate floral artworks. GRANDE THORPE - TANA REBORN

In honour of 150 years of Liberty, the Tana Lawn™ cotton classic, Thorpe, has been dramatically enlarged for a larger, abstracted interpretation of the initial 1968 artwork. Offering a bold take on its intricate meadow-like beauty, Grand Thorpe transforms the familiar into the extraordinary. The design’s large-scale florals evoke a painterly elegance, creating a striking visual narrative that retains the nostalgic charm of the original while embracing modernity. Originally created during the height of Liberty’s iconic Art Nouveau period in the early 1900s, Hana Weave is an enticing botanical of sweeping poppies and carnations. Ianthe was created by well-known French Art Nouveau designer, R. Beauclair, in approximately 1900 and was later redrawn by David Haward’s Studio. Ianthe is Greek for purple or violet flowers, suggesting that the flowers in the design may have originally been drawn from violets. In celebration of 150 years of Liberty, Ianthe has been innovatively reimagined for interiors in a new overprinted jacquard interpretation. With the timeless beauty of an antique, Royal Ianthe has been developed with contemporary interiors in mind. Ideal for drapery, cushions, and accessories.

CLOVER CLUB

Based on a Liberty paper impression from the 1910s, this bold and minimal design reduces organic forms to geometric abstractions. A single four-leaf clover motif is observed through the prism of stylisation – purified and distilled to discover its structural essence. Suggestive of a botanical blueprint, mottled textures and subtle tonalities highlight the hand-crafted, block print effect.

AURORA INK

The Liberty legacy is defined by its iconic plain-woven silks, which have been integral to the design house’s origins and have effortlessly transcended eras, movements, and fashions. Dating back to c.1909, the Aurora silks collection featured luxurious threads, masterfully dyed and woven to create stunning ombré effects in a wide range of colours. Aurora Ink, a modern reinterpretation of a silk from this collection, brings Liberty’s artistic heritage to life as a sophisticated statement wallpaper. With delicate gradations of inky jewel tones and a subtle nod to traditional ikat techniques, the design exudes natural lustre through its unparalleled craftsmanship. Each brushstroke of colour carries a piece of history, blending Liberty’s past with contemporary innovation.

CHARLTON

With strong influences from traditional Persian and Islamic design aesthetics, this richly decorated botanical pattern, originally created by Liberty in 1965, seamlessly blends stylised florals with subtle geometric elements. Reminiscent of the exquisite Persian rugs sold at specialist rug department in the Liberty flagship store, Charlton’s intricate shapes follow a symmetrical, tile-like layout. Printed on a lustrous, pearlescent grass-cloth base, each motif is encased within ornate, accentuated frames.

These slight variations may affect the penetration of dye in some places. This is not a defect of the fabric – rather it shows quality and integrity of the natural yarn and printing process. Testing: In order to comply with various international and national upholstery, flame retardant standards, these high-quality upholstery fabrics may require additional FR treatments. Please refer to information found on sample labels and contact Liberty Fabrics for further information. All fabrics have been tested in accordance with the standards shown on the reverse of each fabric. Technical data sheets and sight of testing certificates can be supplied upon request. Where FR treatment is indicated an additional cost may apply.

Care and Cleaning: We recommend that all velvets and upholstery fabrics are regularly brushed or vacuumed with an upholstery fitting, both to prolong the life of the fabric and to maintain its appearance. Light spot cleaning can be carefully carried out, but we recommend spot testing in a less visible area. Professional dry cleaning as necessary.
