H
ere we are again.. the end of another year! I dont know how this happend. It was my birthday 5 minutes ago! Anyway.. Welcome to the Autumn Winter Issue of FAB. It’s filled with fun articles and gift inspiration. Theres a catch up with previous FAB cover stars and contribtors. It’s been such a busy year for many of them. We are spending the holiday season at my daughters in the countryside while they are skiing and we are eating out this year! A first. y 50th year has been full of fun little adventures but it’s also been very challenging health wise. So there are a few things on my to do list which will roll over to next year..but I’m fine with that. The most important thing I’ve learned this year is to listen to your body and keep asking questions. The most fulfilling part of my year has been getting back in the saddle. My childhood friend Isobel has be the reason behind that and her allowing me to ride her horse Dolly has been the greatest part of finding myself again. To you Izzy I’m eternally grateful. hatever you are doing this season put yourself first. Make time for yourself and listen to your instincts. They are never wrong. Happy Christmas and thank you all so much for the huge support this magazine has from the midlife community..Heres to 2024! ig Love Editor

THIS ISSUE I’M LOVING This Paris fashion week, the Doyen of 90’s glam Pamela Anderson chose to go make up free during all the shows and press calls. The reasons behind her bare face are said to be the death of her makeup artist. Pammie has said she didn’t feel the same getting glammed up without her. She is of source a natural beauty. But I did think it was a bold statement and she turned heads for all the right reasons. I think she looked better.

I
’d say I’m definitely a cold weather gal. The richness of the Autumnal jewel tones and the widespread acceptance that layering is, in fact, caring, speaks to my soul. I love being wrapped up in swathes of fabric and cannot wait to crack open the faux fur storage and live my best human plushie life.

nterestingly, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) shares a similar perspective, labelling menopause
as the ‘second spring’ of a woman’s life. TCM views menopause as an opportunity for renewed energy and fresh possibilities,
transitioning from fertility and reproduction to self-nourishment. As the seasons shift, our bodies follow suit. The temptation to linger in bed a bit longer on chilly mornings aligns with the dwindling daylight and cooler temperatures. This almost primal urge to

nfortunately, the transition into menopause adds even more complexity to these
seasonal changes. While certain symptoms like hot flashes might find relief in cooler weather, other symptoms such as anxiety, brain fog, and feelings of overwhelm can intensify with declining estrogen levels: it’s like our emotions mimic the unsettled autumn winds.
A

I
t’s that chilly time of year again and Winter spray tans can look darker than summer tans, so I am now advising my
clients to drop down shade not only to look super glowy but to still have a sun kissed look. So let me introduce you to the 1hr + Tinted Spray tan solution, a very big favourite with my clients that have a last-minute function to attend. This natural looking streak free colour is quick drying and also contains moisturising ingredients Q10, Aloe Vera, Vit E and Green Tea. This solution can be left on to develop for 1-4 hours depending on the desired result they want to achieve and will suit all skin tones.

ustomer Testimonial:- From Becky Bullet Cambridgshire. Having used sun beds for several years and not having the best of spray tanning experiences. I felt
slightly hesitant to try Justina’s Sienna’s spray tan. However, I thought it would be worth a go as it sounded safe, value for money and a professional service. After my first tanning encounter all my hesitations were completely taken away. Justina was very professional and more, she offered pre and post advice and care, ran through the different options with regards to how dark or light I wanted the tan and which one she would recommend. I felt very much at ease, comfortable and confident with her knowledge, expertise, and experience. After the spray tan, again Justina gave me guidance and

reassurance as to what to expect. I left for the weekend feeling and looking great, the tan was exactly what I wanted and matched perfectly with my skin tone, it lasted for the perfect amount of time and was completely streak free. This has completely changed my view on sun bed vs spray tan, and I am now converted to an avid spray tanner with the amazing Sienna Spray Tan by Justina. Ten out of ten for me in every way I would highly recommend.

When we Retire we Refire!
I love showing women that we should not let self limitations and fear, stop us from living our lives to the full, as we get older. When we RETIRE we REFIRE. BY SIOBHAN DANIELS
I
have spent the last year shouting that from the rooftops, since my book RETIREMENT REBEL was published with Vertebrate Publishing. It’s the story of how I felt I had no alternative but to change my way of life to survive and age the best way possible. I embarked on my own life’s adventure, without a real plan of how that would unfold. It is a roller coaster ride, with many ups and downs, but most importantly it shows the positive things about my nomadic life, in Dora the Explorer, my trusted motor home.
I
t was beyond my wildest dreams to have a book published at 63. I loved being an example to others, to show that you are never too old and it is not too late. It has been an exhausting year, promoting the book.
22
FORTYANDBEYONDMAGAZINE.COM
“THE POSITIVE REACTIONS MAKE ME CONTINUE”
B
ut I feel so strongly we need to do more to change ageist attitudes to enable us to age in a more positive manner.
I
have spent the last twelve months constantly letting people know that the book is out there and urging them to read it, to spur them on to find their inner adventurer. I have spoken on numerous podcasts, TV and radio stations. Regaled people at Festivals and Book festivals, including, The Wild Writer’s Festival in the Scottish Borders, Kendal Mountain Festival, Yestival, and the Mere and Felixstow Literary Festivals, to name a few. ne thing I loved at these events was seeing people’s reactions to my story. They said that they could relate to my midlife struggles. Family bereavements, illness, feeling bullied and marginalized at work and having a very hard time with the menopause. t is wonderful to receive hundreds of messages from women, saying how they see themselves in what I have written, it has sparked something in them to reconnect with life. They want to repurpose their lives and find their inner warrior and adventurer. Several have actually gone on to buy vans to explore, after reading my book or hearing me talk. The more the book has sold, the more I too have found my inner confidence to speak out about ageism and how we need to do more to combat ageism in society and ageist narratives.
O
I
I
T
he positive reactions make me continue, at 64, to push myself to face fears. Most recently, I took myself over to France, driving my motorhome on the other side of the road for the first time. I was petrified of negotiating the roundabouts, only to find that it was relatively easy when I took my time.
did however come unstuck with the tolls. I had to scramble out of the driver’s side and run around to pay. I got totally confused and had to press the button for help. A very patient French lady talked me through what I needed to do. am trying to show that we should not let fear and self limitations stop us from finding joy in life. Now that I have driven on the right hand side of the road, there is no stopping my European escapades. Watch this space.

Unleashing the Power of Creative Play A Path to Mental Well-being BY: LUNA
I

T
he Arts: Lifelines for Our Mental Health It’s a frustrating paradox that
the arts, despite their immense power to heal, are often the first casualties of budget cuts and neglect. The COVID-19 pandemic laid bare the truth – we all turned to various forms of art to sustain us through those trying times. Q &A With The BeautyWitch! EDITOR ZEE CHATS TO THE WONDERFULLY MYSTIC ALISE MARIE
AKA THE BEAUTY WITCH.
Q
- Well, thank you so much for taking the time out of your schedule to chat to me. I’ve never
met a real life witch before! You’re not what I expected! At what point did you feel this was a lifestyle and passion you wanted to immerse yourself in or have you always been spiritual and looking for an alternative way to live?
A
- Ha ha! Actually, it wasn’t a conscious choice. I’ve always been tuned into, let’s say, a mystical
realm, ever since I can remember. I just took it as a normal state of being, and let it develop naturally. I had no idea it would lead me here, to this work. None whatsoever.
Q
- Your book is very impressive. I loved reading it and it actually opened my mind to alternative
therapies and the power of natural remedies. How long did it take you to write and get published?
A
- Thank you! I’m so glad to hear that. I wrote it because it needed to get out of me, and into the
world...Kind of like a volcano erupting. But, ultimately, it was to share what I know with those who needed to hear it. The recipes
“I’VE ALWAYS BEEN TUNED INTO THE MYSTICAL”
themselves had been developing all along, so...I guess it took me, maybe, six months to put it all together in some kind of cohesive way? I’m not good with linear time. But I do recall the exactness needed for the recipes was excruciating! I never measure when left to my own devices - I’m more of a random chaos
theory kind of gal. I’ve had to learn precision, which people close to me still find hilarious. Then I shopped it to a few publishers, and from there, it was a bit of a process to actually come out, because it was during the lock down.
Q A Q A
-Do you think you will write another book?
- Oh sure. The Beauty Witch was always intended as a series, but I also have a few other books
brewing...
- So tell me what a typical day is like for you. How do you start your day?
- Ha! No such thing! My days vary wildly, but I kind of like it that way. But, wherever I am, I need
to greet the day...Slowly. I’m not wired to bolt up and out. I drink water, then make a brew, always. Sometimes coffee, sometimes my Focus Pocus from the book. But, always a hot brew, even in the dead of Summer here in New York. I like to listen to music, get outdoors...I’m definitely one to lounge. Then, eventually, it’s beauty ritual time, which I hold dear. From there, who knows? It could be a writing day, a travel day, an on-camera day, an event day... My hours are all over the place. All the more reason to get back to taking good care, though, no? Whatever is happening, I need to recharge throughout the day and evening with lots of plant power, both inside and out. And, best if all, when I’m home, my cat is there. So, lots of feline vibes.
Q
- Are there any new projects you would like to explore under the herbalist umbrella of your
passion?
Q A
- You have a product line out now, how difficult was it from start to finish? Your branding is
perfect. Will you be extending the range?
- Ha! I jumped that one! Thank you! I’m so glad you feel that way. I had a visual of somehow a
Chanel bottle meeting the 60’s rock scene, and making its way into a cult film...I will certainly expand the range, though it takes time. I test the formulas for at least a year, both on myself and with those close to me. I like to get a range of age, skin type, lifestyle needs...that sort of thing, and see what they’re results are. So far it’s been incredibly satisfying. It is my wish for the line to reach a broader audience, because I know what’s out there, how well mine works, and all that goes into it

- What plans do you have for the pagan festival at the end of october?
- Professionally, it’s a mad season, as you can imagine. My crazy notes in my planner are illegible
