Health Alive

Words Alicia Du Plessis

Meet a family who is wholeheartedly aligned with health from the inside out and has owned and run Herba Farmacy - Natural Healing in Howick for almost a decade. The Campher and Gouws family is committed to raising awareness around health and well-being through the modality of natural remedies. The values and ideals of healthy living were instilled into Desiree Campher and her brother, Anthony Gouws, by their mom, Kathe Gouws, from a young age. Kathe was always involved in the health industry, applying it to her family’s life. She practised reflexology for almost her entire life and owned a health shop in Malvern where she offered health consultations.

Herba Farmacy Natural Healing was originally founded by Shelley Keith, who was inspired by the work of Dr Hulda Clark and her story of recovery from illness using natural remedies. Shelley also approved and helped formulate the business’s products. Having prior knowledge of Dr Clark’s protocols, Kathe and Desiree were over the moon after they purchased the business in 2013. They wanted a familyowned business that would supply not only the local community, but Africa, with natural healing remedies. Kathe does the administrative work for the business and Anthony helps with the buying, costing, and running of the laboratory where natural remedy products are manufactured.

Desiree manages the mainframe business in consultations, health guidance, their e-commerce website and the formulation of the natural remedies. Holistic health has always been like second nature for Desiree. She has an extensive educational background, having studied not only law and draughting, but also aromatherapy. “The only truthful joy is healing and assisting people to recover their full energetics,” she says.

Herba Farmacy Natural Healing is primarily a manufacturing facility that produces natural remedies and specialises in Clark Detox methods. They offer a wide range of products suitable for all illnesses. Their remedies have aided healing and relief of a variety of ailments and illnesses, including those with HIV, cancer, arthritis, and heart conditions. While the family’s speciality is in detox programmes, Desiree consults and deals with all types of illnesses. Since the family’s approach is a holistic one, they work within the understanding that everything is connected, and natural remedies are viewed as the “first step instead of a last step”. www.naturalhealingsa.com

Desiree shares that, as a society, we are on the brink of losing the choice between natural versus synthetic. “It’s important to awaken the communities countrywide to demand that natural remain relevant. We are working on a project that will allow the people to choose natural with vitamins and nutrients, but we need the public to support it.” It is the family’s dream for all health shops nationally to stock their products and make them more readily available to the public. They are passionate about educating as many people as they can in the ancient art of herbology and for families to find the value of herbs in their lives.

We start with Lucky He is a lover of local landscapes and has found his path in life as a photographer.

After he received an opportunity at CC Systems in Howick in 2012 and developed a knack for fixing gadgets, he bought a broken drone and fixed it up. Lucky saved up to buy a brand-new drone, and his passion for photography soared! His friends quickly noticed his keen eye for photography as he took beautiful images without any formal training.

“I’m not very good at expressing what I see through words, but when I take a photograph of what I see, the picture speaks more than a thousand words. Capturing the beauty of
