Vineyard Redevelopment Strategy
As you’ll have seen from the recent notice, the first steps in the Vineyard Redevelopment Strategy are well underway. Trellis and vine removal is nearly complete in the targeted blocks, with the busy September - October phase focusing on root removal, drainage upgrades, and planting of colourful cover crops like zinnias, sunflowers, and lavender.
These short-term changes may seem dramatic, but they are carefully designed to set up our estate for healthier, more productive vines in 2026 and beyond.
Security Update
We are currently reviewing our estate security procedures and operations.
Independent industry specialists have been conducting audits to identify areas for improvement, and several enhancements have already been implemented with positive results. This is an ongoing process, and we’ll keep you updated as new measures are rolled out.
Did You Know?
The indentation at the bottom of a wine bottle is called a punt - and it’s not just for looks. Originally introduced when glassblowers couldn’t make flat bottoms, the punt improves stability, makes pouring easier, and even helps sediment settle away from the neck in aged wines. Next time you pour, you can thank this clever little design for keeping your wine clear and elegant.
Recent Wine Awards
Croydon wines continue to shine!
Two of our very own Croydon Vineyard Estate Covenant Wines have recently been recognised at the prestigious Fine Wine Awards 2025, each receiving Silver Awards for their outstanding quality:
• Covenant Chenin Blanc 2024 - 91 points
• Covenant Pinotage 2021 - 92 points
This recognition is a testament to the passion, dedication, and craftsmanship of our winemaking team. It highlights not only the potential of our vineyards but also the commitment to excellence that continues to put Croydon on the map. Congratulations to Rikus and the team for this wonderful achievement. It’s always special to see our estate’s hard work recognised in the broader wine world.

Events & Community Life
• Chef’s Night Out was a big success, with 47 meals served and 25% of attendees being newer residents. It was great to see fresh faces alongside familiar ones - thank you to everyone who joined!
• Planning is underway to make events more intentional and consistent, with input from the resident survey, bar offering feedback, and stronger partnerships with caterers. Data capture from recent events is also helping us track what resonates best with residents.
• Our August Grape Expectations was a warm and memorable gathering. Residents brought along delicious sharing platters of food and settled in next to the fire in the Wine Lounge. With glasses in hand, we listened to guest speaker Jacqueline Bullard, who shared her talk “Possibility, A Perspective”
- offering a new way of looking at the world. It was a perfect mix of food, wine, and thought-provoking discussion, with neighbours connecting in the relaxed, cosy atmosphere that makes these evenings such a highlight of the Croydon calendar.
Trustee Working Groups
Our trustees are developing smaller working groups to focus on key areas like communications, lifestyle events, vineyards, and more. This is an open invitation for residents to connect with the relevant trustee if you’d like to be part of the solution - whether with your time, skills, or just a good idea.

Explore Red Wine Boldness
Ever wondered how your favourite red stacks up?
Our chart shows where different varieties fall on the spectrum from lighter-bodied (like Pinot Noir) to bold and full-bodied (like Mourvèdre and Syrah). It’s a fun way to guide your next tasting adventure.
A New Estate App Coming Soon
We’re excited to let you know that Croydon will soon be switching from GloCMS to the My Estate Life app. Why the change? It’s more user-friendly, highly rated by other estates (many nearby have already made the switch), and offers better functionality. After a successful test phase, we’re confident it’s a real upgrade for Croydon.
The transition will be seamless - no new biometric photos needed - and the app will make it easier to stay connected, informed, and engaged in estate life.
We’ll share rollout details soon!
Here’s to a wonderful spring on the estate - filled with good company, great wine, and continued progress across our community projects.
