In 2040, the bridal industry revitalizes depleted geological landscapes by converting them into ideal wedding gardens. e Mediterranean Quarry Wedding is a full-service experience that o ers all of the stages and services of the wedding in one place and one day: the former Solvay quarry at the Calanques National Park. us, allowing a more practical, technological and sustainable event.

SOCIAL CONSTRUCT. e ideal wedding is a social construct that has changed through history according to the needs of society.


PROBLEM. Exhorbitant prices and the high carbon footprint of long distance supplies and services have converted the wedding into a depleating event.
OPPORTUNITY. Former quarries in Marseille are unused residual spaces on the coastal landscape with a potential of an exclusive, symbolic and private space.


POSTURE. e bridal industry gives new meaning to depleted geological landscapes by converting them into ideal wedding gardens and providing a sustainable wedding experience.

HIERARCHY. e hierarchy of the garden is marked by the height and density of the trees. e landscape weaves a path guiding you through the wedding ceremony until the quarry is revealed.


THE MATERIAL. Due to its history as a Marseillaise material and its sustainability, limestone is used as the main building material in coastal karstic landscapes. e stone would be manufactured in situ, reducing any environmental impact.


THE MODULE. A novel technique on 3D fabrication permits the assemblage of interlocking voussoirs for the ceiling and the usage of massive stone for the walls.


The Groom Area
Existing open areas of limestone fractures are used to create a descendant space to prepare. More intimate spaces are carved into the stone while terraces are built on open air spaces.

BY 2040, the construct of the ideal wedding is an experience. e paths and stages of getting ready are more valuable in a society that is more environmentally conscious and that prefers the symbolism of a marriage with a minimal footprint.
