MALUKOTE DOCUMENTATION
Melukote is located in the Mandya district of Karnataka. It is considered a highly sacred place in South India. Melukote lies at a distance of 51 kms from Mysore and 133 kms from Bangalore. It is in the Pandavapura taluka and famous for the Cheluvanarayana Swamy Temple.

The cave temple was constructed during the times of Kalyani Chalukyas.
This rock cut temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
The height of the ceiling is 5 feet. The incomplete columns suggest that the construction was halted.
Legend says that this place was one of the hide outs of Pandavas during their Vanavasa.
Anne Mane
• This structure found to the east of Cheluvanarayana temple was shelter for elephants during the king’s rule.


• Like most of monuments the construction style followed is post-lintel method.

It is rectilinear in plan, and measures about 11,000m by 4,500m.
Currently it houses the main chariot used during festivals.
Aramene Tota
• This palace was constructed about 1200 years ago. Was once abode for the kings and now is opened twice a year for the public.
Mantapa
Melukote is famous for its Kalyanis, Mantapas and pillared corridors. The Bhuvaneshwari Mantapa is found alongside Panchakalyani on the foothills of Yoganarasimha Temple hill.
The mantapa is octagonal in shape and has 16 pillars with beautiful carvings.
It was built by Mummadi Krishnaraja Wodeyar.

Pt Narasimachar
This is a residence museum of renowned Kannada poet P T Narasimhachar.
This structure, like many other houses in Melukote has a Jagali, which is used as a semi-public space, has posts made out of timber and red oxide flooring.

Vedastambha
This structure is found opposite to the Cheluvanarayana temple and is constructed in the recent times.
It is square in plan and is around 3.5m in height.



The structure has Sanskrit verses embedded onto it and is adorned by finials on top.
It serves as a guide in creating awareness about Vedas.
Dwara


It marked entrance to the city of Melkote.
Columns
The carvings on the columns are the incarnation of lord Vishnu and other gods.


Garuda Gambha
This structure is found opposite to the Narayana Swamy temple, located near mukya dwara. It is square in plan and is around 6m in height.
The structure has Sanskrit verses embedded onto it and is adorned by finials on top.
