The Mammography Quality Standards Act (MQSA) has been instrumental in ensuring the quality and uniformity of mammographic services across the United States since its enactment in 1992. Recent updates to the MQSA regulations, effective September 10, 2024, mandate the inclusion of breast density information in all mammography reports. This paper examines the scientific basis, clinical significance, regulatory requirements, and operational implications of these new standards, with a specific focus on density reporting in post-biopsy mammograms. We also explore the challenges facilities face in adhering to these guidelines and the potential benefits for patients, healthcare providers, and regulatory bodies.
