Vision for a Media Team

Yours, Vardges and Riccardo The EYP has had a huge impact on our personal and professional development. As a result of this experience, we have come to believe that there is always room for improvement and to help others improve. This has led us to constantly challenge ourselves both in terms of seeing what we can do better and in terms of helping others do better. In Opole, we aspire to lead a team where the development of its members will become a source of inspiration and motivation for us to go beyond our limits, and take up challenges that will make it a rewarding, learning, and memorable experience for everyone. Having this in mind, we are certain that Opole 2017 is a grand opportunity for us to make a statement about what EYP truly is. We do not want to document the session and just be there as an academic or fun crutch. We want to discover what session means and, by extension, the reason why the EYP should keep on existing. This is why we are looking for Media Team Members who are capable to help us in this challenge. The members of the team must be committed to planning ahead of the session and to precise implementation. They also need to be able to work in close contact with a smaller team and cooperate continuously. Finally our Media Team Members must be open to development and never feel as if they already know how to do something. There’s no room for already achieved perfection around here. Do you feel ready? Do you feel interested? Then, apply.

The Aim of the Media Team

In Opole, the Media Team will mainly focus on creating meaningful content. To achieve this goal, we will base our work on the five questions journalists ask themselves when working on a piece–What?, When?, Where?, How?, Why?– and translate them to the EYP experience. Each of these questions will constitute the theme of a day of the session and, to a certain extent, of the time before it. The answers the Media Team will provide aim at discovering the impact the EYP has on our everyday life, and at interpreting its meaning, which is different for everyone. The Team will of course work to enrich the adventure of all the participants and to deliver a taste of Opole to the rest of the EYP community. However, the scope of our work won’t be limited to the environment of the session. In fact, we would also like to engage with the local population and media. To do so, we would link the work of NGOs such as the EYP with European values in order to discuss the footprint their combination leaves in our society. We acknowledge this will be challenging, but it is also our duty to ensure that our events leave a mark there where they take place.

The Structure of the Media Team

To function, the Media Team will be divided into three sub-teams. Each subteam will focus on how to employ a certain medium to deliver a product that effectively renders the theme of the day. These sub-teams will hence concentrate on Photography, Videography, and written-outputs. Each team will then come up with a project that can be run and completed throughout that day. This means that for every day of the session there will be three different takes on the daily topic, so as to provide as broad an analysis of an EYP experience as possible. In order for the vision to be implemented efficiently, the projects will have to be brainstormed and planned before the session, so that once the Team meets in Opole, only small details may be left up for definition. Of course, we do not want the Members of the team to be too restricted. This is why everyone will have a chance to develop personal projects which situate outside the spehres of the main theme and of the sub-team somebody may be working with. Finally, we, as Editors, will oversee the work of the team and of the sub-teams. This does not mean that we will be the bosses of the team. Each member of the team must co-own everything we produce. In addition, the Editorial team will be completed by a Video-Editor, who will focus especially on the Video-Team. His or her role will be to coordinate the work of this sub-team and to technically assist its members, who will be included and participate in every stage of the production of the video outputs.

The Tool of the work

In terms of publishing, we want to adopt Adobe Spark. This means that we will not have issues to be printed or disseminated places to search in order to find the contents produced by the Team. Spark is a flexible tool that allows for the creation of pages, for the upload of videos, photos and the creation of other kinds of posts that would fit the aim and structure of the team. The contents will also be shared on Facebook to improve reach. The use of this platform will be a new experience for us, too. This is why its implementation will be a common effort where everyone is expected to explore the possibilities Spark offers and share their inputs and findings.

Communication and Cooperation

It is very important for us to stress that Media Teams are all about Communication and that Communication is really fruitful only when it pairs up with Cooperation. For this reason, we see the Media Team as an umbrella, or the nexus connecting all the Teams and Participants of the session with each other. Not only do we have to make everyone aware of what we are working on, but also make sure nobody is lost in the other happenings of the session. In addition, we also believe that our projects cannot be confined to the media team for their execution, this is why we endorse inter-team cooperation for their realisation. We do believe that everyone should be part of our product and that we are there to make sure that contents are created, but with everybody’s contribution. Finally, all this does not mean that we will not have some “private” space only for the media team to develop its ideas and work together, building good team spirit is as important as making sure to interact with everyone else.
