1st Leadership Training of EYP Finland Concept Sheet for Trainers

Aim The Leadership Training has been developed to fill an evident learning and continuity gap in the structure of the EYP network. Senior Officials at EYP events are admirable and driven individuals, selected or invited to their roles due to their experience and dedication. But apart from having witnessed their senior at prior events, there is very little opportunity in EYP today to take a moment to prepare and plan ahead before taking on the responsibilities of senior EYP roles for the first time. There are several leadership-training practices in place around many countries in the network, but these are mainly aimed at administrative and organisational roles for the Boards of the National Committees, not for conference leadership roles. As the transition from one generation of session leadership to the next occurs very sporadically and without a designated plan for knowledge-transition, over time we are risking that learned lessons, acquired knowledge and innovative solutions are being lost. To address this imbalance in training focus within the EYP, the Leadership Training introduces an opportunity for a dedicated, intensive training programme for supporting the development of those alumni that will be taking on the very important roles of Presidents and Vice-Presidents, Editors, Head Organisers, Heads of Jury, i.e. the core leadership roles whose work, vision and dedication determine what EYP is today and what it will be tomorrow.

About the event The Leadership Training will be organised in the beautiful Finnish Lapland at the Levi Ski Resort in Kittilä and in Rovaniemi. It will take place from December 11 to 15, 2019, where Wednesday, December 11, will be dedicated to arrivals. Departures should take place from the afternoon of Sunday, December 15, onwards. While the event is aiming at full travel reimbursement, we can currently guarantee a reimbursement of 250€ per person.

The Head Organisers of the Leadership Training are Tim Backhaus and Viktor Salenius (FI) and the Head Trainer of the event is Dorothea Weber (DE). Participation If you are interested in joining the event as a trainer, you can apply via the Member Platform. The deadline for the Trainer Applications is on August 18, 2019 at 23:59 CEST. We are looking for individuals who have relevant experience in at least one EYP leadership role, meaning they have been the President, Editor, Head Organiser or Head of Jury of a number of events. We also very much welcome applicants who have experienced a variety of leadership roles or who have been on the session leadership in different countries thus experiencing various National Committees’ ways of working.

Seeing as the Leadership Training has great potential both for its participants as well as for the network overall, trainers will be working together on a vision for the event and its implementation. The Trainers’ Team will also be closely cooperating in the planning and preparation of the training itself, guided by the event’s Head Trainer.
