Panto style This classic shape is highly regarded in the independent men’s eyewear collections, so much so that it comes in multiple variations. Ideal for square faces, the choice of the colours and materials will define the mood of the look, classic, intellectual, edgy, architect-inspired or chic. Very thick or super fine rims are particularly distinguished (look for double and triple rim details) and special finishings such as embossing on a metal frame, bridge and temples achieves an air of individuality and luxurious artisan style. For colours, neutrals and tortoiseshell have always been staples for this shape, and muted natural tones are in vogue; the occasional brighter hue of red, blue or sage creeps in for those who wish to jazz things up.

Combination designs featuring two or three materials have really taken off in the last two years, with all focus on technical excellence and refined design solutions, carefully conceived right down to the last detail. The hardware such as the rivets, hinge plates and screws are integrated with precision and exceptional techniques of craftsmanship.

Among the materials that have become sought after in the luxury men’s eyewear collections are titanium, stainless steel, custom Mazzucchelli acetate, 3D printed polyamide, carbon and wood as well as classical buffalo horn or, more unusually, leather.

Glossy, chromed, brushed, scratched or polished....all these formats are bringing a clean elegance to men's independent eyewear designs.

Colours enhance the surfaces‌.a shiny silver, an unpolished copper or a natural bronze are among the metal tones which present special subtleties and an interplay of tones and tactility with hand-finished textures and a re-imagined antique look for modern tastes.

The construction of these designs is consistently more advanced and more spectacular as a result, and each designer embraces their favorite unique array of fine materials, shapes and carefully planned colours to achieve each distinctive end result.

For the palette, we see pared down and classic tones as the more powerful aesthetic for summer 2021: gold, silver or matt black metal finishes with luxurious lens tones offer a sophisticated avantgarde style while nature-inspired turtle or tortoise, and weathered, wood-inspired or striated tones of olive, bark, taupe, sand, honey and smoked grey are generally on the rise for those requiring out-of-theordinary high-quality sunglass styles.
