Route Cleared for Wind Turbines

Work has been carried out at the Tullyearl roundabout to facilitate the passage of large wind turbines and poles which will be landed at Killybegs Harbour. The wind turbine company carried out a ‘dry run’ on the route from Killybegs to Mayo and identified a number of areas which could cause problems on the route. Roads Engineer for Donegal County Council, Mark Sweeney, outlined to The Eye that the work was carried out by a team of workers from the wind turbine company and the measures are temporary in nature and will only be in place for the time necessary to facilitate
the road transportation of the turbines to sites in County Mayo and other locations countrywide. “The Tullyearl roundabout had to be temporarily lowered to facilitate the over‑run of the lorries and also there is work ongoing outside Bruckless - removing poles and replacing them with underground cables as these could cause problems for the back end of the lorries,” Mark said.
