KN Group - the Irish telecoms network services provider has recently merged with French firm Circet with the official announcement by both parties recently. The value of the deal was not revealed but it was estimated in the national papers that a business of the size of KN Group would fetch a price in the region of €150m. The beneficiaries of the deal will be Donegal Town based chief executive Donagh Kelly and fellow directors Conall Murray and Brian Curran. Donagh, a son of Donal and Roisin Kelly, Drimark, is married to Anita and they have two children, Eamon and Lily. Continued on Page 3

Local girl takes part in 24 hour live broadcast This year, DCU Media Production Society member and second
year Communications Studies student, Kate Gurren from Donegal Town will be taking part in the DCU Media Production Society’s annual DCUtv 24-Hour Broadcast. Kate is a daughter of Brendan and Marie Gurren of Footsteps Shoe Shop. The award-winning event takes place the first weekend of December in Dublin City University, with this being the ninth consecutive year for it to run. Students commit to staying on campus in the School of Communications building, the Henry Grattan, for 24 hours, producing a live-streamed broadcast - all in aid of charity. This year’s event will be in aid of Aoibheann’s Pink Tie, an Irish charity that offers support to the families of children diagnosed with cancer. Kate will be contributing to the broadcast in many ways. There is something for everyone to get involved in, be it filming, producing, presenting, editing, creating behind the scenes content and promoting the broadcast on social media or a little bit of everything. DCUtv 24 Hour Broadcast in aid of Aoibheann’s Pink Tie sponsored by Bank of Ireland runs from 9pm on Friday November 30th to 9pm Saturday December 1st. Circet, owned by private equity firm Advent International since earlier this year, has a turnover of approximately €800m a year. The deal will see both businesses retain their current brands and management teams in their home markets but the merged entity will become one of Europe's foremost telecom services companies. The new combined company will span France, the UK, Ireland, Germany, Morocco and the Caribbean.

The late Bob Kavanagh, Ros Ban Garden, Raphoe, and his wife Ann were the founder members of the Donegal Garden Trail over twelve years ago.

The Donegal Garden Trail At the ‘Donegal Garden Trail’ end of season meeting in the Garden Rooms at Salthill House, Mountcharles, recently, co‑ordinators Joan Donleavy and Dorothy Jervis listened intently to positive reports from garden representatives of the twenty-one gardens on the ‘Trail’ which stretches from the Inishowen peninsula to Mountcharles and is among one of the county’s finest tourist attractions. Their comprehensive reports showed that overall in 2018, visitor numbers are well up and continuously growing year after year. The National Park Glenveagh with its castle, unique gardens and surrounds
reports 250,000 visited this season. Raphoe’s Oakfield Park’s lush landscape containing parkland, formal, walled gardens and narrow gauge railway, attracted 60,000. The historic Dunmore House, Carrigans reports a great season; one weekend alone, over 1,000 visited. From the 19th century Glebe Gallery and gardens at Churchill to the country estates of Glenalla House, Milford and Greenfort, Kerrykeel to Nora’s Rose Garden, Ballybofey in a modern housing development, all reporting good seasons. Gardens also reported an increase in bus tours this season. Joan Donleavy said,

Bank of Ireland to extend ‘Counter Service’ times for customers
Bank of Ireland has announced that its branches in Ballyshannon, Donegal and Killybegs will now have a counter service available to personal customers both in the morning and the afternoon. In recent times the counter service has just been available during morning hours. Bank of Ireland intends to implement full day counter services in branches nationwide. Speaking about the extended service, Barry Gallagher, Head of Bank of Ireland Donegal said: “Serving customers brilliantly is a key priority for Bank of Ireland. We want to offer services and products in line with how consumers want to bank – both now and into the future. “With more than 250 branches nationwide, we are proud to have the largest branch network of any bank in Ireland.

Fibromyalgia Ten years ago I hadn’t even heard of Fibromyalgia, but these days it seems more and more people are afflicted with it. Symptoms include widespread musculoskeletal pain, accompanied by fatigue, sleep, memory and mood issues. Symptoms can begin after emotional or physical trauma, (usually about three years after) and women are more likely to develop it than men. Stonemason’s signature on monument Donegal Town’s famous monument was built in 1937, two years after St. Patrick’s Church, but for some reason, there are no photos of the building of the monument (but plenty of the church). After a tipoff to myself from a local resident in 2012 that one of the stonemasons had inscribed his name on top of the monument, the Eye can now reveal that the information was indeed correct. Thanks to Joe Quinn’s cherrypicker, I took this photo in November 2012 from above the monument and sure enough, Tony McCall’s name is inscribed on top of the monument. Specsavers launch ‘Grandparent of the Year’ Award
Singer and grandmother of two, Mary Black, has launched this year’s Grandparent of the Year Award. Specsavers Audiologists in Donegal Town, in association with Beaumont Hospital’s Cochlear Department, is looking for nominations as they search for Ireland’s most exceptional grandparent. The award celebrates and recognises the extraordinary contribution that grandparents make to the lives of grandchildren and the community. Speaking at the launch of the 2018 Grandparent of the Year campaign, Audiologist at Specsavers Donegal Town, Martina McNulty, said: ‘We are delighted to launch this year’s campaign and to welcome the hugely talented Mary Black on board as our ambassador for 2018. This campaign recognises the many benefits of an ageing population and the special role that grandparents play in Irish families. It is a fantastic opportunity for younger generations to recognise the many ways that grandparents and older people enrich our lives.’ Martina continued: ‘We are encouraging grandchildren throughout Donegal Town to nominate their grandparent to give them the recognition they deserve. Many customers who come through our doors with concerns about their hearing have withdrawn from social situations leaving them feeling isolated and depressed. Many struggle to keep up with conversation and become tired or embarrassed of asking people to repeat themselves.’ Mary Black said: ‘As a proud grandmother I am thrilled to have been asked to support this year’s Grandparent of the Year Award, I truly cherish the time with my own grandkids, so I was delighted to work with Specsavers on this campaign. I am also delighted to partner with a brand that actively works towards removing any stigma associated with hearing loss. We were delighted to work with Specsavers on this family and community-focused campaign. It promotes the consolidation of young and old generations in the community and we are encouraging all grandkids to nominate their grandparent and show their appreciation for all they have done for them over the years.’ The winning grandparent will be crowned Specsavers Irish Grandparent of the Year 2018 and receive a trophy, along with a €750 hearing voucher and a weekend away in Ireland. The lucky grandchild who nominated them will also receive their very own iPad. The winner will be picked from four regional finalists and will each receive a €215 Specsavers eyecare voucher, a bottle of Champagne and an awards final certificate. Grandchildren of all ages can nominate their grandparents by filling out an entry form in Specsavers Donegal Town or online at www.specsavers.ie/hearing/grandparent. The closing date for entries is Friday 30 November. Specsavers Donegal Town has an on‑site hearing centre which is managed by qualified audiologists and highly trained staff. Donegal’s Fiddle Tradition Fiddle classes as well as a talk and
concert of traditional music took place in the Bluestack Centre recently as part of a unique Donegal music project. Well known fiddler and music archivist Ronan Galvin gave a talk on the fiddlers of the Mountcharles area down through the years. Mountcharles is the latest area to be added to the ‘Musical Landscape’ online map of Donegal, the first of its kind in Ireland. Danny Meehan, renowned local fiddler from Drimalost, took part in the concert and it was a wonderful day of music at the Centre to mark the important addition of Mountcharles to the ‘Musical Landscape’ coverage. The map is being put together by the Donegal fiddle organization Cairdeas na bhFidleiri. It aims to show details of the many fiddlers produced across the county. Glencolumcille, Carrick and Kilcar areas have already been covered and can be viewed on www.doneglfiddlemusic.ie
“Bog Hotel” owner laid to rest
Patsy Brogan, best known as the owner of the “Bog Hotel”, died last week at the age of 82. He passed away peacefully at Donegal Community Hospital following a battle with cancer. The funeral Mass was said by Fr Morty O’Shea on Monday last week. Mr Brogan was laid to rest in Cranny Road Cemetery, Frosses.
Roadworks suspended for Christmas

the N15 through Ballybofey and Stranorlar from December 7th to January 7th over the busy Christmas period. A reduced speed limit will remain in place for safety reasons.

Donegal/London Person of the Year Award
T
here was a gathering of over five hundred people with Donegal connections at the Hilton Hotel Wembley to honour Brendan Tiny Vaughan and his wife Maureen as joint Donegal People of the Year 2018. Master of Ceremonies Noel Cunningham welcomed everyone to the event. He introduced the top table of Chairman of the Association Tony McFadden and his wife Phil, Minister Joe McHugh and his wife Olywn, Donegal singing legend Margo and Fr. Michael McCullagh. There was then rapturous applause for the introduction of Brendan and Maureen. After the meal special guest, Margo gave a very nice talk on her career and sang a few Brendan Tiny Vaughan and Maureen Vaughan being presented with the songs. Tony McFadden presented the Vaughans Donegal London Person of the Year 2018 by chairman Tony McFadden and with a beautiful vase to mark the occasion. Minister Joe McHugh. He stated that the new Donegal hospice calendar for 2018 is available now and he will be delighted to sell you one. Robert Mizzell and his band provided the music for the dancing. I spoke to many of the young Donegal people at the event who have decided to make London their place of work, they are very happy living in London and to have the opportunities that are being afforded to them. The generations who have been there for a while are continuously helping to provide work and enable a growing Donegal population to enjoy a better way of life in the city. LEGHOWNEY NEWS LEGHOWNEY CHRISTMAS FAIR Leghowney Country Market held their annual Christmas Fair last Saturday. It was a hugely successful event with more than 1,000 visitors and customers making their way to Leghowney Hall to sample the very best of Christmas cheer. This annual Christmas Fair was the biggest the Market has held in its 9 years in existence, with 20 extra local crafters and producers adding to the regular Market members’ produce. Extra space was created with the addition of a bright marquee to the side of the hall. The Market Cafe was kept very busy with many visitors enjoying a home cooked breakfast. Tir Chonaill Youth Choir directed by Berni Canny and accompanied by Nora Carr sang a wonderful selection of Christmas Carols and songs and added greatly to the atmosphere of the event. Santa Claus came along to meet all the children and mums and dads had a great opportunity to get some photos taken on our beautifully decorated stage - resplendent with a gorgeous new 8ft Christmas tree. Each visitor to the hall was invited to enter a free draw for a beautiful hamper of Leghowney Country Market products and voucher - the winners were Cathal, Pascal and Lucy Quinn, Leghowney - enjoy. We have two Market dates before Christmas, on Sat. 8th and 22nd December 10am to 12 noon but due to high demand we may squeeze in another - keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates.

It was good to meet you all at the ‘Community Development Plan’ information evening in Bruckless Community Centre. Donegal County Council have announced that they have a fund of €300,000 for the construction of 3 playgrounds in Donegal; I take it that, that is €100,000 per playground... we could make a great playground with those kind of funds! It would undoubtedly improve the quality of life for local families with small children. Apart from making the application, we need to find a suitable site. All of this will

The name of Wm. Britton and Sons reaches far beyond the town and county as generations of couples can testify to travelling a long distance to get engaged in this well established jewellers. The business prides itself on its deserved reputation of high quality and good service. The Britton family can trace their origins back to 1850 when a Hugh Britton came from
Pettigo to Donegal Town to work as a nailor. In those days nails were made by hand and used in construction, including ship building and indeed, in the construction of Clar chapel itself. This Hugh was known as Hugh the Nailor. He married a Mary Ann Pilkington and among their children was a son named Edward (who was the father of Captain Hugh Britton

whose story is told elsewhere in the book) and another son named Hugh who went on to become a clock maker and watch repairer. The names of Hugh and William are passed down the family line and when Hugh married Postmistress Mary Ann Cahill, they continued the tradition by naming one of their sons William (grandfather of Jack Britton, who now owns the family business). He went to Derry at a very young age, as was the custom at the time, to serve his apprenticeship to a watchmaker. He returned to Donegal and established his business. His marriage to Mary Rogers produced six children, one of whom was Matt. Other family members were Vinny of The Sandhouse Hotel, Rossnowlagh, Mrs Brede Hyland of The Central Hotel, Peg, Una and Nell. Matt followed in the footsteps of his father and
became a watchmaker having served his apprenticeship in Limerick. As tradition would have it Jack, his son, also qualified in the same line but gained experience further afield than Derry and Limerick. Serving his time in Switzerland, he qualified with a Diploma from the National Society of Goldsmiths of Great Britain and is a registered valuer.

Donegal Town’s Connection with Pádraig Pearse

LISDANAR HOUSE In 1952 while the home of John McGowan was being renovated, a fireplace was removed and a name plate was found, bearing the name N. MACGIOLLA BRIGDE FIOD MOR. The property being refurbished was Lisdanar House on Tyrconnell Street, Donegal Town, once the home of P.M. Gallagher, a prominent solicitor in the town. The name plate, measuring approximately 8"x2½", belonged to Neil McBride of Faymore, Creeslough. On the evening of February 15th 1905, while returning home, Neil McBride was stopped in Dunfanaghy by Constable Patrick McLaughlin of the Dunfanaghy RIC who inspected his cart to see if it had the name and address of the owner displayed on it. It was an offence at the time not to have the owner’s name and address clearly written on the cart. This was to enable the police to quickly discover the owner if they found a cart unattended, or if an accident occurred the owner could be identified. HILLS OF DONEGAL McBride was charged as the owner of a cart used for the conveyance of goods, without having his name and residence painted thereon in legible letters. Neil McBride was a small farmer and market trader, an intelligent man who had been contributing poetry to the papers both in English and Irish for the previous twenty five years. He had published a book of poems in 1905 called ‘Blátha Fraioc’. His poems and songs became well known throughout Ireland. Two of the titles include, ‘The Hills of Donegal’ and ‘Noreen Bawn’. ILLEGIBLE WRITING Subsequently McBride was charged for having ‘illegible’ writing on the signage of his cart, because it was written in Irish. The sign was by all accounts painted by Neil’s friend and poet, Andrew McIntyre, on a tin plate then attached to the cart. The law required that the name and address of the owner should be displayed on the off side of the cart. It didn’t matter who you were, all carts had to display their owner’s name and address. In November 1818 Edward Lascelles, the Earl of Harewood, was convicted at Leeds in the mitigated penalty of 20s and costs for not having his name inscribed on a cart belonging to him. ENGRAVED IN BRASS McBride, like many others, was making a stand along with the Gaelic League to have the Irish language recognised. At the other side of the country Liam Sheridan of Oldcastle, County Meath, was also being prosecuted for having his name in Irish on his carts. The police, he said, “swore the name was illegible so I had my name engraved in brass so that any ‘amadan’ at all can read it”. After being successfully
prosecuted for having his name in Irish, he was confident that the League would back him. He was expecting to be charged again, for in defiance he put his name in Irish on all his carts. By now the Gaelic movement had gained much ground and the Irish language was so widely adopted it was also introduced as a subject into the examinations of the Intermediate and other public Boards. But the authorities would not accept anything other than signs in English. PAYMENT OF FINE In Dunfanaghy Petty Sessions on 18th February 1905, McBride was convicted and ordered to pay a fine of 2 shillings and sixpence, plus costs of 1 shilling. In default of payments he was to be imprisoned in Derry gaol for one week. On the 18th March 1905 he was again facing a similar charge. This time the case was brought by Head Constable Hugh McGovern of Dunfanaghy, for a repeat contravention. This case was of considerable interest amongst the members of the Gaelic League, it was also a fair day and the courthouse at Dunfanaghy was filled to capacity. The presiding magistrates were Charles F. Stewart, Captain W.E. Johnston R.M., Andrew Wilkinson and Daniel Coll. McBride was charged with ‘having on the public road at Kill on the 11th day of March 1905 a cart for the conveyance of goods of which cart he was the owner without having his name and residence painted thereon in legible letters as required by Statute.’ P.M. Gallagher of Donegal Town, who appeared for McBride, was active in the revival of the Irish language and was also a prominent member of the Gaelic League. He proved that his client had his name and address distinctly on his cart in Irish and it was intelligible. Witnesses were then examined to prove the bilingual attainment of the district, one witness who was an Irish tutor said amongst his pupils were Mr Stephen Gwynne and Mr Kilbride, Resident Magistrate. After hearing further evidence, the chairman said the decision of the majority of the Bench was that a nominal fine of 1s and court costs be imposed. Mr Gallagher expressed his right to have a case stated for the superior courts in Dublin. The Magistrates agreed to do so; the warrant was not issued for payment of the fine or costs pending legal opinion. When a court wants a higher court’s opinion on a point of law, one way of doing this is an appeal by way of Case Stated made at the request of a party to the proceedings to the judge after the conclusion of a case.
SEQUEL TO CASE STATED The police and the courts were beginning to see that this law was causing unnecessary friction between the people and police. Shortly after the Dunfanaghy and Oldcastle cases, an instruction was issued by Sir Neville Chamberlain, Inspector General of the RIC, to members of the force that when in future they find Irish names on carts, no prosecutions are to be instituted until authority for same has been obtained from headquarters. This was seen as a victory for the Gaelic League and as a direct result of the case stated which P.M. Gallagher got from the Dunfanaghy magistrates. KING’S BENCH An appeal was brought in the Court of King’s Bench Dublin. Gallagher instructed Dr Walsh, Mr T.M. Healy K.C., and seeing an opportunity to champion the cause of Irish Independence, an attorney by the name of Patrick Pearse also agreed to be part of the team defending McBride. P.M. Gallagher, as McBride’s solicitor, instructed Pearse on his one and only appearance in an English court of law. The case seemed to centre on the letters of the sign rather than the fact it was in Irish. The name and address was accepted as being intelligible in Irish. It laid great stress upon the fact that it was the Irish letters which seemed inconsistent with the law. The court kept referring to the English letters when in fact they should have referred to it as the Roman or Latin. The appeal wasn’t successful and Neil McBride paid his fine and costs into the court in Dunfanaghy on 27th May 1905. These costs were the ones incurred in Dunfanaghy; the King’s Bench did not award costs. A small consolation was the judge said there would be no objection to the name being displayed in Irish on the near side of the cart as the law only states the name and address of the owner had to be on the off side. WAR OF INDEPENDENCE The name plate used in evidence for whatever reason remained in the possession of Gallagher who seems to have hidden it at his home in Lisdanar House. Gallagher was active during the War of Independence and spent time in Derry gaol. It is assumed the plate was hidden to prevent it being damaged or destroyed as the house was frequently raided by the RIC and British military during this time. The name plate found in Lisdanar House is now on display in the Museum in Letterkenny, on loan from the National Museum. On April 18, 2016, a commemorative plaque was unveiled by Pearce Doherty TD at Dunfanaghy Market Square, in memory of the infamous event. The plate was on display for some time to the people of Dunfanaghy, after it left there some 111 years before.

Fundraising Play for Crumlin Directed by Paul Gallagher and running in the St John Bosco Centre for four nights from 18th - 21st January next will be the classic comedy/farce by Neil Simon “Rumors”. Proceeds raised will be in aid of Crumlin Children’s Hospital.
A great cast of well known local actors including Pat Ward, John Kerrigan, Conor Friery, Berni Canny, Eddie Mulligan and Marie McMullan. A magnificent set which was designed and constructed by Thomas Martin from Pettigo - famous for his work on Game of Thrones - has very kindly been lent to the production by the Borderline Players, Pettigo. Johnny McCabe, the very talented artist based in Donegal Craft Village, has painted the poster for the show and his original artwork will be donated to Crumlin Hospital during the celebration night which will be provided kindly by the Abbey Hotel on Friday the 25th of January. Everyone is welcome to attend the celebration night and music and food will be provided. People will also get a chance to meet with staff from Crumlin who will be in attendance to accept the presentation of monies raised.

Utilising the Feel-Good Factor Associated with Exercise The stress-relieving benefits of exercise for adults is well documented and discussed and we all know that a long walk, swim or exercise class will have us feeling like new after a long, hard day. However, this ‘feel-good’ aspect of sport and exercise is rarely discussed from a child’s perspective. In fact, we don’t appreciate anywhere close to enough, the daily stresses and pressures in kids’ lives. These need to be released in a positive way if we are going to encourage positive mental health in our next generation. A bully in class, a subject they struggle with, a fear of mixing with other children, a feeling of inadequacy in PE... the list is endless. Gardening with Emer KEEP IT REAL With most major trends leaning towards instant results and low maintenance it is not surprising that the popularity of the artificial tree is on the rise. On a nostalgic note, it is sad to think that the lovely pine smell of a real tree that would greet you as you entered the room might become a thing of the past. There is the hope that the growing population of environmentally conscious customers will be swayed by the fact that one Christmas tree absorbs a tonne of CO2 in its lifetime, another tree is planted to replace the one cut and it can be recycled into bark mulch which is a great soil conditioner. Real trees are grown in Ireland and support local growers. Artificial trees, convenient as they are, are usually manufactured in China, have a high carbon footprint, are made of non-biodegradable plastic and are rarely recycled. When it comes to buying real Christmas trees there
is the option to buy a potted one or the standard cut type. Potted Christmas trees are usually smaller in size but they come with a number of advantages. They won’t lose their needles if kept adequately watered when inside and they can be re-potted and used year after year or planted into your garden. Cut Christmas trees can be kept fresh looking for weeks if they are not situated beside a heat source. Keeping the base in water can also prolong their freshness. SUNDAY TEAM - Castlefin Celtic made it a cup double at the Hospital Field with victory on Sunday. With both sides using the cup weekend as a chance to use their squads, it was the visitors who took the lead midway through the first half when Corrie Lee Bogan volleyed home a failed clearance by the home defence. Castlefin doubled their lead after the restart with Bogan again on hand to finish from close range from a good move out wide. Ronan Tourish finished the game as a contest when he made it three with twenty minutes left on the clock. Donegal got a late consolation through front man David Graham but it is the visitors who advance to the next round after a competent display. Next up is the visit of Keadue Rovers this weekend in the league. Kick-off on Sunday at the Hospital Field is 2pm. SATURDAY TEAM - The Saturday Team had a free weekend last weekend but are
back in league action this week as near neighbours St. Catherines visit the Hospital Field on Saturday at 2pm. U8 Blitz - Donegal Town F.C. hosted a very successful blitz with our neighbours St Catherines, Killybegs on Saturday afternoon. The home squad proudly wore their new kit kindly sponsored by Clogher Ironworks and up to sixty boys and girls enjoyed the football on the Hospital Field. Our thanks to all the parents who turned up to cheer on their heroes on such a cold afternoon. Chairman Pauric O’Neill thanked all the coaches from both clubs, and most importantly the boys and girls who participated and they were all presented with medals. SOCCO-LOTTO - The next socco-lotto draw takes place this Sunday, December 2nd with the jackpot currently €2,000. Tickets are available from all committee members and from the Clubify App.

17/18th Nov. The winner of the weekend club competition was Kevin Gallagher (05) with a great score of 40 pts. Conal Callaghan (17) came 2nd in a BOT with James Doherty (22) when they both finished with 39 pts. Gross prize winner was Justin Coughlin (07) with 30 pts. 24/25th Nov. On an ideal weekend for golf John Meehan (07) took the top spot with 39 pts, one ahead of Joseph Timoney (11) who finished with 38 pts. Third place went to Killian Burns (23) a shot further adrift with 37 pts (BOT). Conal Cooke won the Gross with 33 pts. The AGM of the Men’s Committee was held on Fri 23rd Nov where our new Captain Colm Campbell and Vice-Captain Liam Cassidy were presented with their Club jackets. Congratulations to both and best wishes for the year ahead. A special mention also to our outgoing Captain, Denis Kelly, who represented the club so admirably during his tenure.

Naomh Brid Notes Our seniors took on Buncrana on Sunday afternoon in O Donnell Park. Naomh Brid had a strong side and both teams had a big interest in this game – a win guaranteed Division 2 football. First half Naomh Brid were the side in control and were in front 0-04 to 0-03 at half-time. Buncrana scored the all important goal with 10 minutes remaining, unfortunately our side went down on the day on a scoreline Naomh Brid 0-8 Buncrana 1-8. Well done to all the team, management, backroom staff for all their hard work and endeavour this season.

This week we will look at some of the common myths that are out there with respect to the Credit Union and how we process loans! Whether you are borrowing a small amount to cover an unforeseen emergency or a larger amount to finish off your new home, the same principles will apply with respect to getting a loan, in summary: ■ Debt/Income assessment; quite simply put, how much disposable income do you have to service the new loan i.e. do you have a mortgage, other personal loans or credit card debt? Can you comfortably afford extra borrowing? In extreme cases, where there is financial hardship beyond the control of the borrower, the Credit Union Manager will work on possible options to alleviate and provide guidance on repayment options, every loan application is reviewed on the merits of need and our ability to help out each Member within the acceptable tolerances set by the Board of Directors and Central Bank. The Credit Union does not seek any collateral against loans. ■ Current Loan repayment history: As a Member, do you have a loan here already, have you been able to service it as contractually agreed? Missed payments
Applying for a personal loan is not as arduous and time-consuming as many borrowers think. One way to make the process run smoother is to have all the documents and information needed for the process prior to when you apply. Not having the right information available is the biggest reason that personal loan applications take longer than an hour or two. Donegal Town Credit Union has invested in automating this process by utilizing an appointment system that permits Members to forward their financial information in advance of appointment so that the Loans Officer can do provisional underwriting before the appointment.

Savings regularity is what we require so that we can meet our loan projections and future planning. MYTH: You Must Have a Good Credit Score to Take out a Personal Loan!
It’s commonly believed that people with bad credit won’t be able to qualify for a personal loan. The Credit Union understands that circumstances happen to everyone outside their control, e.g. poor health, job losses, death of a family member – we will review each application on the merit of the Member’s personal circumstance and every effort will be made to assist the member - lower credit score doesn’t mean you won’t qualify at all.
MYTH: You Must Have paid off most of your Student Loan before you apply for additional funds!
The Credit Union understands that the average College placement will take a minimum of three years to a maximum of seven years and that it would be virtually impossible for any Student/ Guarantor to carry all this debt without regular incremental additions for the duration of the college commitment! We work with student to provide an ‘interest only’ fee payment for the 1st year to allow the student to get a job and start payments for year two – each college application will be reviewed on the anniversary date and a new application will be agreed each year.
