New Post Office Location Decided Donegal Town Post Office is to move to Timony’s Spar on Bridge Street. Maurice Timony confirmed to The Eye that he received a letter of offer from An Post last Friday. “We recently submitted a tender for the Post Office and I am delighted to say
that we have received confirmation that it was successful. We have been a Post Point retailer since 1998 and now I look forward to offering our customers a full range of An Post services,” Maurice said. The Post Office move will take place in early 2019.
50 Years of Dancing in Drimarone In the early 1960s the Drimarone Development Association was formed by a group of locals, a number of whom had previously been in the local Macra na Feirme. The impetus for building a hall was the lack of a meeting place for the group in the local area. After purchasing a site on which to build a meeting hall the group cleared the site with voluntary, manual labour. Having only sufficient funds for the foundations and blocks they had to approach the bank for a loan to get the building completed. With
funding secured the building was opened in 1968. As the bank loan had to be repaid, the committee had to come up with ways of raising funds and this led to the holding of a weekly dance. Looking around the local area, Leghowney had dances every Tuesday, The Pavesi had regular dances on Thursdays and Sundays and Killybegs had dances on Fridays. After about a year of holding the dances on Wednesday nights, Drimarone settled on a Saturday night after which the dances took off and were very successful for 7 - 8 years before the disco era started in the mid1970s. See inside for many offers available locally! The countdown to Black Friday - perhaps the biggest shopping day of the year around the world - has officially begun. It’s a day when retailers slash prices on a wide range of products and shoppers go online as well as visiting their local shops for that once‑off bargain. Black Friday originates from America and is the day after Thanksgiving. It has now become the beginning of the Christmas shopping season in Ireland, overtaking the traditional day of 8th December - the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. This year Black Friday falls on Friday 23rd November and many shops around town and further afield will be offering deals and discounts with some of the discounts continuing through the weekend. Stephen Harron, Manager of Magee’s shop on the Diamond, told The Eye that Black Friday works very well for them and is one of their busiest days throughout the year. “We have discounts and bargains across the store and customers are already asking about it. We find that it is a great boost to sales as it takes place at a quiet time in the shop. We also have online shoppers and all-in-all I think Black Friday benefits our business and customers love to get a bargain.” Magee on the Diamond are holding their Christmas appreciation night from 6pm - 9pm on Black Friday evening where customers can enjoy some festive treats.
