Mental Health Week

Grant for “The DECK”

The DECK Youth Development Project which works with young people between the ages of 10-18 in Donegal Town and the surrounding areas has received a grant of €17,330 from the Department of Children and Youth Affairs according to Pat the Cope Gallagher TD. The project is managed by Foroige and funded by Donegal ETB. Both Project staff and volunteers work with young people in a wide range of educational, developmental and preventative based programmes.

New Book about the history of Lough Eske Castle

Recently released is a most interesting book - “Life at Lough Eske Castle, Donegal”. The book gives an insight into the childhood memories of Henry G.R. White and offers readers a unique glimpse inside the stone walls of the castle from 1894 to 1929 as described by Henry G.R. White, who was the grandson of Major General Henry George White who is buried in the grounds of Lough Eske Castle.

Melinda Sippel with her mother Joan The Eye on Donegal was invited to meet the author last Tuesday - Melinda Sippel a granddaughter of Henry George White.

Melinda and her mother Joan were staying at Lough Eske Castle Hotel with Melinda’s brother Michael. They had travelled from America on Monday and were excited about their visit back to the castle. Joan had not visited since 1954 while Melinda visited last year and stayed in the hotel with her husband. “My grandfather had told us so many stories about Donegal and Lough Eske and when we drove up the drive to the hotel I was speechless, it was beautiful, there was the castle nestling among the trees just as my grandfather had told us. I was so moved by it all that I had to take a seat in the foyer while my husband checked us in.

“Little did my grandfather know that the castle his grandfather purchased in 1894 would one day be reclaimed, rise from its ashes, be transformed, and beautifully restored,” Melinda explained. “When I returned I was so inspired by my trip back

to Lough Eske plus the fact that I wanted to do something special for my dear mother who was celebrating her 80th birthday I decided to write the book.”

Melinda explained that her grandfather was Henry George Ronald White, and his father was Major Henry Herbert Ronald White and her grandfather’s grandfather was Major General Henry George White who is buried in the grounds of Lough Eske Castle. The three generations of men loved Lough Eske, the lake, the mountains and its people and all three men called Lough Eske Castle home, she said.

In the book ‘Life at Lough Eske Castle’ Melinda explains how one afternoon in 1982 her grandfather sat down with his wife Betty and a tape recorder and began reminiscing about his childhood at Lough Eske Castle. “He wanted to transcribe his boyhood memories for us, his grandchildren, to read one day with our children. So my grandfather spoke and our grandmother recorded and together they typed up a transcript titled “A reminiscence of Lough Eske and of Family and Friends for a few who may care”.

“Most of what is recorded was told by our grandfather on sailing trips on his boat

which he christened ‘Lough Eske’. He would share his stories about Ireland and his childhood home, Lough Eske Castle.

The book is available from the Four Masters Bookshop He vividly described the beauty of Lough Eske, the Bluestack Mountains, the lake with its series of islands that lay scattered throughout, and how the Irish weather, with its rain showers that came and went, could change the scenery from hour to hour.”

The last time Melinda’s mother Joan visited the Castle it was in ruins and she was just 16 years old. I asked her how she felt when she arrived and saw the castle this time and with a tear in her eye she said “It just feels like home”.

‘RING’ A RING A ROSIE WITH THE KIDS IN THE NEW PLAY GROUND There was much excitement last Friday at Leghowney Hall with the arrival of Minister of Rural Affairs Michael Ring and Junior Minister Joe McHugh TD to check out the new Play Area. There were lots of finishing off jobs to be done within a very short time frame. The car park now has a designated disabled parking space, cones were replaced with movable dividers and window boxes refreshed with some autumn planting. Everything was looking top class. The

ministers, local Councillors and Co. Councillors were welcomed with a great crowd of local families and were given the tour of the park by the children. Tea and refreshments were served in the hall for all who attended. Great to see Michael Cassidy has recovered so well following a recent illness and was well fit to entertain the VIP’s. Well done to all involved and thanks to all who helped in any way.

The 2018 SuperValu Tidy Towns Competition results are out! Donegal Town did very well, up four points from last year, to 300. Listowel, the overall national winners, received 339 points. Donegal has improved in the areas of Community Involvement, Streetscape and Public Places, Green Spaces and Landscaping and Tidiness and Litter Control. Well done to everyone who came out week after week to keep our town litter free and looking so well. Among the items that were noted was the recently erected water pump at Waterloo Place, The Bank Walk was admired, the churches were admired as well as Drumrooske Estate and Bru Na Mara. A big thank you to our Rural Social Scheme workers, the Community Employment workers, the Donegal Town Community Chamber, SuperValu, Ashtree Garden Centre, local businesses, community groups and volunteers. The judges remarked that it was a pleasure adjudicating our town. So well done everyone and let’s keep up the good work!

By Margaret Gallagher Last week The Eye on Donegal visited an international company in Donegal Town, AccuBook which presently are moving into the Vietnamese market.

Their office is situated on the top floor of the Castle Centre on Bridge Street and was set up in 2007. Presently there are ten employees and the company is going from strength to strength expanding out from their current base in the European market.

AccuBook which is in the process of re‑branding to “GuestDiary.com” produces software for the hotel and accommodation sector.

The business began with three core products - Websites, Booking Engine Technology, and a Channel Manager.

“Guest Diary was the missing link from the packages we were offering to our customers, this is the front desk software which we launched last March after three years

sourcing in house and talking to the people in the industry about their requirements.

We build all our own products and none of the work is outsourced. We have all the expertise required under one roof,” Gerry Haughey, Sales Manager for the company, explained.

Over 400 accommodation providers in Ireland use their products, 40 in the UK, around 100 in France and the company is now moving into Vietnam where they already have 15 customers.

“As we speak Andy Bassett, Director of the company, along with our marketing manager in Vietnam, Bui Phuoc Vu, are in Hanoi - the capital of Vietnam - selling our product to the many accommodation establishments there. Andy’s presence is a badge of honour to these people.

We initially sent out postcards to all the accommodation providers and are now following up with a visit which is our big

selling point. Four days into his visit he has secured 30 new customers and we feel we have a lot to offer to these customers as many of the businesses are functioning with basic tools,” Gerry commented.

The Donegal Town based company concentrates on small to medium independent hotels and accommodation establishments and provides unlimited support seven days a week as part of their package.

As part of their office team they have two French employees, Caroline and Romain.

They have a close working relationship with their customers and an example of this is that Romain is just back from a site visit in France.

“Our product is never complete and presently we are building software which is for sale integration into till systems and we hope to release this in the next few weeks,” Gerry concluded.

Last Tuesday a judging panel from the Bank of Ireland “Enterprise Town” Awards were hosted in Donegal Town where a presentation was made at the Railway Heritage Centre followed by visits to Abbott Ireland, Cherrymore Kitchens & Bedrooms and Hanna Hats.

Donegal Town is an attractive, vibrant town overlooking Donegal Bay on the Wild Atlantic Way. Having a Diamond at its centre makes it easily accessible for visitors and locals to explore the abundance of shops, dining, cultural and heritage attractions, bars and entertainment suitable for all tastes and ages.

For a number of years we have been voted in the top ten Destinations to Visit in Ireland

by Trip Advisor. Due to this recognition and as Donegal is the County name many visitors use our town as their base to explore the region.

Since the start of 2018 we have been experiencing rapid development in all areas of the town by private, local and diaspora investors who see for themselves the future growth potential for the town and surrounding area. On the Killybegs side of town at the Mullins such is the confidence of two local diaspora that they have invested large amounts of capital to develop this area including a new roundabout which further enhances the approach to Donegal Town. Recently we were delighted to receive confirmation of funding to build a new state of the art library with community facilities.

This was an initiative of Donegal County Council and Donegal Town Credit Union.

Many events take place throughout the year e.g. St Patrick’s Day Parade, Christmas Lights Switch On, Summer Festivals and A Taste of Donegal Food Festival who were proud to celebrate their 10th Anniversary in August this year. Throughout all these events the community spirit is very evident as volunteers and all of the above groups support each other when help is required.

Donegal Town is naturally an Enterprising Town showing ongoing evidence of innovation and enterprise development whose success is determined by continuous collaboration between community, business and local public bodies.

Last Tuesday as I sat at the presentation from Killybegs to Ardara to Laghey and on Donegal Town for the Bank Of Ireland Ballintra have their supplies.

SECOND PRINTING PRESS The office space and printing works on Bridge Street were re‑organised with extra desks and new computers.

The state of the art equipment and printing press already installed took on the extra weekly print job of The Eye. By July it was realised that more capacity was required and it was decided to invest in a second printing press which when installed doubled the capacity to print the magazine also meaning the distribution could start earlier each Wednesday.

Stacked copies of the magazine ready for distribution EXTRA STAFF Three part-time staff were employed and it was down to business. The magazine started at 24 pages and now in its 32nd week it is regularly 36 pages and sometimes more!

Local news, history, sports, photos, anniversaries, services and adverts fill the pages and the readership is growing week by week. In addition to the weekly edition, from April to the end of September a free tourist magazine is also produced, printed and delivered to hospitality outlets. This features adverts of interest to tourists and also local history, weather and information such as tide times, church services and bus timetables.

The Eye on Donegal is designed, produced, edited and printed all in Cavern Design Printing on Bridge Street. The quality of the print is second to none and as one local entrepreneur said, “It is a credit to all involved, being able to produce and print such a high quality magazine on a par with any city publication - from pen to printer is a great achievement. Donegal Town is up there with the best, tourist towns down south have similar but they are much bigger towns.”

Richard and Louise and all the staff of the Eye on Donegal thank the 3,500 loyal weekly readers of the magazine and also the advertisers without whom it would not be possible to produce the magazine every week. Also thanks must go to the contributors of notes, photos and stories who make the Eye such an interesting read.

Minister McHugh said: “I have raised concerns about closures with Government colleagues and I would like to thank Minister for Communications, Climate Action and Environment Denis Naughten for taking the issues raised in Donegal on board.

“I have been assured by him that An Post will definitely speak to any retailer, newsagent, shop owner or any other business person in any of the locations affected by post office closures to discuss the possibility of taking over a viable operation.”

Postman Pat Creator Dies

The creator of Postman Pat, John Cunliffe, has died aged 85 after a short illness. Born in Lancashire he took inspiration from the Lake District when creating the show’s fictional village of Greendale.

The first episode was broadcast on 16th September 1981 and the animated series has appeared in more than 50 countries and been translated into a number of languages.

Social Responsibility, Social Accountability, Civic Responsibility – what do these terms really mean in the context of operating a Credit Union? By definition and in broad terms, they all amount to the ethical theory that ‘individuals/ businesses are accountable for actions that benefit the whole of society’. Credit Unions adopt an approach that is familiar to most persons living in rural areas known as “Meitheal” which means a collective effort for the greater good of the Community and this is our primary operating objective and ethos. Over the years, the Donegal Town Credit Union has funded upwards on €300,000 in donations to Football Clubs, St. Vincent De Paul Local Organisations, Primary & Secondary Schools, Individuals seeking to promote personal endeavours. In the financial year ending 2017, we provided over €73,886 to various bodies within our catchment area for the promotion of wellbeing within their respective communities.

Anne Jane Thornton - The Female Sailor

A story was reported by the London newspapers in February 1835, following a discovery on the river Thames, when a customs officer went to investigate an incident between sailors on the dock. He intervened to stop some of the crew of a sailing vessel from mistreating a young sailor. He discovered to his amazement that the sailor being picked on turned out to be a young woman, named Anne Jane Thornton from Donegal. He reported the incident to his superiors and lodged her with Eliza Warren, the respectable proprietor of the Cooper’s Arms Tavern in Lower Thames Street, where he knew she would be properly taken care of. In his report Thornton was described as “of low stature, and her limbs are firmly knit, comely face, dark eyes, and teeth very white”.

William Taylor Copeland, the Lord Mayor of London, having read the reports which appeared in the newspapers, instructed Inspector McLean of the city police to make enquiries into the circumstances to establish if the girl required assistance and how it might be rendered. Why he should be concerned, and show interest in her, we can only assume was due to her Irish connections. Copeland had contested the Irish UK parliament constituency of Coleraine at the 1831-32 general elections.

but was declared duly elected on petition.

The Inspector, after making his enquiries into the circumstances, decided the best thing he could do was to bring Thornton to the Mansion House in order that the Mayor might hear the remarkable details first hand from the girl's own lips.

The Lord Mayor took it upon himself to interview both Thornton and Captain McIntyre, the master of the ship on which she was discovered to be part of the crew.

McIntyre said he had met Thornton at St Andrews in North America, she had been dressed as a sailor and he had engaged her in all innocence, giving her the job of cook and steward for the fair wage of nine dollars a month. The crew had their suspicions of her as she would not drink grog like a regular seaman. Then they found her out for sure when they saw her washing herself and reported to him that the cook was a girl.

McIntyre had great praise for her as she did the duty of a seaman without a murmur, she performed to admiration.

Thornton went on to give details of her life to the Mayor; she explained that she was born in Gloucestershire in 1817. Her mother died in 1823 and at the age of six her widowed father, a prosperous shop-keeper, brought her to Donegal where he opened a shop and became a successful merchant.

At the age of thirteen she met Captain Alexander Burke in Donegal and by the time she was fifteen she had fallen in love with him. Burke was an Englishman whose father lived in New York and in 1832 Burke had to leave Donegal to return to his father.

She was devastated at the loss of her lover and made up her mind to go after him. She left home, without informing her father or seeking his permission. Attended by a maid and a boy she obtained a suit of cabin boy's clothes, and posing as a boy she secured a position intending to work her passage to New York. The maid and the boy left on her sailing, being charged with a message to her father, informing him of her intention.

By degrees she became resigned to the labour of her new employment, but she beheld with joy the shores of New York, where she knew her labours would end. The moment she landed she set off in her cabin

Being met by the Captain’s father she said she had worked under the Captain’s orders and wished to be engaged by him again.

It was then she learned that her lover had died some days before. Anne left the house broken hearted and disconsolate with no one to comfort her. She made up her mind to return home.

Captain McIntyre said he had no doubt of the truth of her statement; she was not giving to talking, and had much better use of her hands than her tongue. He expressed his astonishment on learning that Thornton was a woman: “I could scarcely credit the mate when he told me of it. I can bear testimony to the extraordinary propriety of her conduct and I ask again whether I have not acted properly towards her.”

Anne agreed that McIntyre had treated her as humanely as possible under the circumstances, for he had told her to go to him with any complaints about the crew.

Anne admitted some of the sailors had struck her for not working hard enough.

GETTING BACK HOME Anne was now anxious to get back to her father who had always been affectionate to her. She was regretting leaving home and the way of her departure, she was thinking that she must have caused him many sorrowful hours. Without money, she needed to find work, and still posing as a boy, she had by now a swarthy complexion, which helped to make her look less like a young woman.

She got a position at nine dollars a month as ship's cook and steward on board the Adelaide. She then got a berth on board the Rover bound for Belfast but this was redirected at the last minute to the West Indies. Anne was put ashore in Eastport, Maine. She got word that a ship was sailing from St Andrew’s for Ireland. Dressed in a red worsted jacket and duck trousers she had every appearance of a sailor. Anne walked the seventy miles from Eastport to St Andrew's, dressed as a sailor. It was here that she met Captain McIntyre of the Sarah, where she took a position as the ship's cook giving her name as Jim Thornton from Donegal.

Last cruise ship of the season visits Killybegs

By Patsy Kelly The Black Watch - the final cruise ship of 2018 to visit Killybegs - arrived in the port on Sunday 23rd September having embarked its complement of passengers in Liverpool the previous day.

This vessel, commissioned in 1972, has had several owners before being purchased

by Fred Olsen Cruises and renamed “Black Watch” (a traditional name in this company).

In Killybegs the vast majority of the passengers went on the usual coach trips to local tourist attractions. A tour which

created a great deal of curiosity locally was the group who spent the afternoon in a “beautiful Irish Bog”. They seemed to be well prepared for it with Wellington boots and rain gear. Another smaller group went to see the round stones in Port.

A large number of these passengers had been to Killybegs previously on this particular ship and knew a lot about it from the grave of Yeats in Sligo to Dylan Thomas’s pilgrimage in Glen.

The vessel sailed at 8 pm on the next leg of her Trans-Atlantic voyage taking the great circle route to St. John’s Newfoundland, arriving in the early hours of Friday

morning 28th September, then on to Halifax, Nova Scotia and several other ports in the St. Lawrence area.

They then will sail East across the Atlantic again in the opposite direction back to the UK. This vessel sails at an economical speed of 16 knots. The cruise lasts 27 days in total.

On the westbound leg of the crossing they passed the exact position (by design) where the ill fated RMS Titanic hit an iceberg on that fateful night in April 1912.

The Black Watch then embarks on another cruise from the UK before commencing a world cruise for the Winter months Christmas Day 2018 will be spent in Sydney.

Donegal’s Archive Service: preserving the county’s story

The Archive Service of Donegal County Council is trying to locate relations of the late Daniel Doherty, who left Malin Head for Boston in the early 1900s and made a name for himself in the Irish political scene there.

Niamh Brennan, Donegal County Archivist, hopes to develop a travelling exhibition next year based on the archive’s collection of Mr Doherty’s papers, which include letters from John F. and Robert F. Kennedy and Charles DeGaulle.

“He had quite an amazing life,” Niamh said. Daniel Doherty died in the 1970s.

Archives are documents, such as minutes of county meetings, letters, maps, drawings, blueprints, manuscripts, literature and other records. They tell us what generations of Donegal people said and did – even, at times, what they thought.

Archives in Donegal had been maintained

by Donegal Library Services before Niamh became the County Archivist in 1999.

Today the Lifford-based archives, part of the council’s Culture Division, are home to more than 10,000 catalogued pieces that span centuries, with the oldest dating back to 1682.

These collections detail the history of Donegal through records of the Grand Jury, Poor Law Commissioners and Local Government Board, Donegal Board of Health, rural and urban district councils,

Donegal County Council, Ballyshannon town and harbour commissioners, the County Committee of Agriculture, school records, literary collections, estate papers, photographs, oral histories and more.

“Often the human interest stories really do touch people,” Niamh said. “So you might have 500 valuation registers and people might come and look at those for their own family history, but they’re not going to generate national interest.”

Niamh works with researchers and others who visit the archives by appointment, and works closely with Donegal County Museum and the County Donegal Heritage Office on exhibitions and information packs to bring the archive’s treasures to a broader audience. Niamh also works with teachers and the Donegal Education Centre – education is a component of the Culture Division’s strategy.

There are some archive items online at the council website, but the job of digitizing the collections is time-consuming and costly. Now archivists also face the question of how to save records that never were in paper form. How will they be preserved, and how will they be made accessible?

“We try to get out the message that before you destroy anything come to the archives first to see if it’s worth preserving,” she said.

If a document is worth preserving, Niamh will find room.

The South Donegal Vintage and Heritage Run The South Donegal Vintage and Heritage Club held their end of year car and tractor run last Sunday afternoon the 30th September. The tractor run left Cashelard heading up to Tubber and then over to Ballymagroarty before returning to the Breesy Centre. The cars left and went to Donegal Town going over Altidoo to Drimarone and down through Frosses on their way to Inver village. They then had a stop at Mountcharles pier before returning to the Breesy centre where they were all treated to a lovely dinner and refreshments. The committee want to thank everyone who helped out in making the event such a success and they look forward to gathering again in 2019.

Gardening with Emer WHAT’S IN SEASON?

The disadvantage of having a predominantly evergreen garden means you miss out on the beauty and excitement of the seasonal changes that occur. Autumn colour can be added to your garden in a number of ways, whether it’s by planting a tree or shrub with changing leaf colour, by introducing some late flowering perennials or by adding pots of autumn flowering bedding plants.

There are a number of trees with particularly good autumn colour that grow well in any of Donegal’s exposed or boggy sites! Two of the most popular trees that put on a great display when their leaves turn to bright red in autumn are Prunus ‘Kanzan’, the common Cherry Blossom, and Sorbus aucuparia ‘Joseph Rock’, the yellow berried Mountain Ash. There is also a great selection of shrubs that have dramatic leaf changes at this time of year. These include Viburnum opulus, which also has bright red berries in autumn that follow large white flowers, Fothergilla major with blue leaves turning a beautiful orangey red and Berberis thunbergii ‘Atropurpurea’ whose

copper leaves turn scarlet as its berries ripen for the birds to enjoy. Hardy perennials that flower at this time of year include Rudbeckia (Black-Eyed Susan) and Anemone japonica in shades of pink or white.

The choice of autumn bedding for pots is more diverse than you might think. Along with the old reliable Pansies and Violas there are Wallflowers, Dianthus, Cyclamen, winter flowering Heather and Ornamental Cabbages. If you want a plant that will make a statement on its own in a pot, the Garden Mums come in a variety of colours and continue to repeat flower for many weeks. They look well in a display on the doorstep beside a carved pumpkin as they match it in shape and size!

Four Masters Notes

The Four Masters u-8 boys and girls enjoyed great success at the Southern Regional Board finals day in Tir Chonaill Park. In dry and chilly conditions all four teams claimed the top prize in their respective Cup competitions bringing their competitive season to a close on a high. The girls had a great day, playing Ardara, Naomh Columba and Dungloe in their group. They played a very good Ardara side in the final and emerged victorious after a close and sporting game. Megan Gallagher and Ava McGroary were delighted to accept the Cup on behalf of their team. The boys C team proved their worth with some cracking games against Aodh Ruadh, Naomh Columba and Dungloe and sharpshooter Caolan McMullin was on hand to collect the Cup from Bord na nÓg chairman Pauric Harvey. These boys are going to step up to the A&B teams next year.

The B team were delighted to get their hands on their Cup after losing two previous finals in extra time. After emerging from a very tricky group on score difference, the boys defeated a gallant Naomh Columba team in the final. Aaron Perry stepped up to collect the silverware, a fitting reward for one of our most improved players this season.

The A team like a little bit of drama and they got that in spades yesterday. After two very difficult games against Dungloe and Naomh Columba they emerged victorious

EYE on SPORT only to meet their good rivals Aodh Ruadh in a gripping final. Both teams couldn’t be separated after full time and two periods of extra time so the Cup was shared in a fitting finale to a great day’s football. The cup was collected by ever reliable goalie and midfield dynamo Iarla Cassidy and two players from Aodh Ruadh. Thanks to all clubs who attended and it was great to see all games played in a very sporting manner. Well done to all the boys and girls for their hard work and dedication to training and to all the coaches for their patience and dedication. A big thank you also to everyone who helped to set up pitches, make tea, take photographs, look after First Aid, referee games and score sheets and with car parking. Our Parks Committee, Senior Board and Minor Board were of invaluable assistance.

Club Lotto: There was no winner of the lotto jackpot €7400 in week 12 of the 2018/19 season draw held in the Abbey Hotel on Monday 1st Octobe. The €50 winners in the lucky dip were Gerry Caldwell, Main Street & Danny Dunnion, Ardnawark. The numbers drawn were 5, 8, 15 & 17 Congratulation to all winners. Donegal Golf Club News 28th/29th September: The Eddie Walsh sponsored Stroke competition was won

by Mark Butler (10) with a score of 73 and he also claimed the Murvagh Masters’ title in the process. Mark has played great golf all year and is a very deserving winner of the Eddie Hackett Perpetual Cup. Marcus Monaghan (07) was 2nd with a score of 74 in a BOT from Tom Geraghty (07) and John Meehan (07) was 4th after shooting a 75. The Gross winner was Matthew McGowan(02) with a 78.

Conor McLaughlin from Inver who won the Gaelforce North 2018 sprint race (43km of Running, Cycling and Kayaking) which took place in Donegal on Saturday 22nd of September 2018.

U13 BOYS: Naomh Bríd u-13’s have qualified for the divisional final V Killybegs after a heroic display against Kilcar last Friday evening at Pairc Naomh Bríd. The home side got off to a flying start and kicked four excellent goals in the first half to lead by 4-8 to 0-8 at half time. All credit to Kilcar they dug deep and played some excellent football in the second half to narrow the deficit. Full time score 4-13 to 2-10. SENIOR MEN: Naomh Brid put up a good fight in the first half of the Intermediate

Championship against Glenfin.

However, Naomh Brid lost ground in the second half against the former senior level team, Glenfin. This was Naomh Brid’s first defeat this year in the Intermediate Championship. We have a young, vibrant and energetic team and we can expect great results next year in the Championship.

Edward Broekaart from Bruckless is a member of the Donegal Canoe Club and has won a gold medal in the K1 class B category Kayaking in the Liffey Descent in Dublin. The Liffey Descent challenge is over 28 kilometres with ten weirs, two rapids and a portage along the route.

Sunday Team: The Sunday Team lost out to Ballybofey United in the Brian McCormick Cup Donegal Area Final. It was all going very well at half time as the lads found themselves three goals to the good. A quality strike from Joe McIntyre followed by a Ronan McHugh brace saw Donegal in a promising position. Ballybofey responded in the second half and scored four goals to complete a shock turnaround. James Kerrigan came off the bench to score a late equaliser and after a scoreless period of extra time, the match went to penalties. Unfortunately Ballybofey won out on penalties and progress to Donegal Town F.C. U16’s with coaches Benny Byrne and Gary Ward the county semi-final. a home game versus Eany Celtic on Saturday at 2pm.
