Bonanza steps up tech game
The Bonanza app, which works on iPhones and Androids, shows users what’s going on around campus.
By: Devon Neary Bonanza High School is taking a leap into bigger and better things. Here it is Bengals, the start of another school year. This time around, Bonanza has something new and exciting to share with its students and staff, the new Bonanza High School app. “It’s the wave of the future,” assistant princial Todd Nelson said. Nelson is also the force behind Bonanza’s latest technological addition. Principal Joe Petrie, has been working alongside Nelson and software company Legit Apps, LLC for months to get the app on its feet, and once it arrived, it did not disappoint. Key features of the app include a customizable schedule,

“It’s the wave of the future.” -Todd Nelson, assistant principal map of the school, and links to the school’s social networks like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube. “I like how the app tells you when all of the athletic events are,” freshman Holli Jackson said. Senior David Een agreed, liking the fact that the app “maps out when things are and what events are happening.” The app does have room for improvements, however. “I’d like it more if the app offered a calendar view and a day by day view, instead of just the daily one,” Jackson said. “And I wish it deleted the old activities so I don’t have to
scroll so far down each time to add a new activity.” Overall, the app seems to be a hit with those who have downloaded it so far. The build-your-own-schedule feature is definitely a fan favorite. In the app, a list of all upcoming school events is available to add to a personalized calendar. Students can also decide which clubs and organizations they want to follow, a feature that comes in handy if they don’t want to jump right into things right away, but still be informed on what’s happening. As for what potential people saw for the app in the

future, a common response was with the more downloads the app gets and the more developed it becomes, hopefully the more increase in attendance we will see at events. The app truly is for everyone, from freshmen to seniors, teachers to parents, everybody can find something for them in the app. Morale is high that the Bonanza app will carry on to do great things in the upcoming months and even year. According to Nelson, the impact the app will have on student life and school spirit will be a positive one. “Hopefully more kids will be informed on when and where things are going on at the school,” he said. The Bonanza High School app is available for download for free by searching up the name in the app store.

By: Virginia Richardson Bonanza’s environment has both a positive and negative atmosphere. The positivity in the school comes from the students on how they may act toward each other. The negativity that may go around the school is sometimes by students vibes. “It’s a bit negative because of the drama,” freshman Olivya Cervantes said. But that’s not all she had to say about the school. “What I would want to change to make the environment better, is to have teachers not put so much pressure on us students,” Cervantes said. Even though she has her opinion on the environment,
her parents also have their say on what they think about the school. According to Cervantes, her parents think that some of the high schools in the district are dangerous. Even though some students think Bonanza is a bit unsafe, senior Josh Jaglarski thinks differently. “I would say the school is safe and secure,” Jaglarski said. Like many schools across the nation, Bonanza tends to have violence at times. “Bonanza has violence, because some students don’t care about the school,” Jaglarski said. Even though there might be some negativity in the school, there is also some posi-

the last school I went to was not safe,” Ellis said. Then there are the students’ behaviors and how they act. Some people may think the behavior is good or bad. Sometimes they may even think it’s both. “The behavior in school is good,” Ellis said. Bonanza Bengals have their own thoughts about Bonanza. They may think the environment is good and some may say it’s bad. It just depends on what there old school environment was like. The environment from different schools can affect the students lives. Since they were use to that type of environment.

Have you been affected? Bullying is a growing epidemic in schools By: Tatiana Murray Bullying. Although it’s been around forever, people are finally fighting back through words and proactive actions. People face tough situations regarding this everyday. Bullying is never okay. Freshman Destiny Jones is against bullying. “I feel that bullying isn’t right,” she said. “People who bully others I think they have personal issues going on.” Jones has been bullied before, but she stated that the torment stopped a year ago. Kids who are often bullied have trouble standing up for them selves. But, sometimes there are people around who can help. “I stood up for a kid in fifth grade,” sophomore Robert Jones said. “He was being bullied because of the clothes and shoes he wears.” Statistics show that more than 3.2 million students are victims of bullying each year, and 160,000 teens often skip school every day because of it. Junior Tamia Merritt makes up a part of that statistic. “I was bullied all throughout middle school,” she said. “I never wanted to actually go to school because of it, so I always skipped.” Bullying causes students to miss out on learning time at school because it interrupts their learning. According to DoSomething.org, 18.5 percent of 12

There are many types of bullying, such as verbal,physical, social, and cyber bullying. Cyber bullying is quickly on the rise in the technology era, and is currently the second most serious form of bullying. Cyber bullying can take many forms, such as, sending mean or threatening text messages, pretending to be someone else online to hurt another person and so many more examples. Cyber bullying can damaging to people in many forms, mentally or emotionally. People use text messages or threats to hurt someone. According to BullyingStatistics.org, one in three young people have experienced cyber threats online. Any form of bullying can lead to serious situations, especially suicide. Victims

of bullying are two to nine times more likely to commit suicide than non-bully victims, according to studies by Yale University. Destiny Jones feel there should be harsher consequenes for bullies. “I would give kids who are bullying suspension, and if that doesn’t work, they
get expelled.” No matter the age, bullying is an unwanted interaction. “No one deserves to be bullied,” Destiny Jones said. If you are being bullied, report it to the Dean’s office or the bullying page on Bonanza’s website.
#Vegasstrong will stand united and will not fall
By: Editorial staff Disbelief. Fear. If you were up on Sunday night, Oct. 1, then you remember feeling this as news reporters relayed what little information they had about the Route 91 Harvest music festival shooting. Like many of us, you probably sat there and wondered: Is this a hoax? Is this a terrorist attack? What’s really going on? If you were able to fall asleep, you might have heard about one or two deaths before bed. But, when you woke up, you heard the last tally: 58 dead and more than 500 injured. It was a night where happiness, excitement, and joy all went away in a matter of seconds. Families were broken apart in less than 10 minutes. Tragedy. Despair. Sorrow. The school hallways were
decorated for homecoming, but it didn’t feel like a day of celebration. Teachers were tight-lipped about the events, but students found information on social media and were glued to their phones, searching for answers. You couldn’t be in a classroom without hearing some type of theory on what really happened in that hotel room at Mandalay Bay. The tragedy is listed as one of the worst massacres in modern U.S. history. And just like that, we became a statistic. We have a new Wikipedia page. Although staff were sensitive to what many of us were feeling that day, students felt something like this would happen sooner or later. You can’t blame us for this realist attitude. Consider what goes on in the world on a daily basis, add that we live in a city with a high tourist destination, and dare to
tell us that we’re wrong. But, even then, we never expected something like this, for innocents to be targeted from a high position. For so many people to lose their lives. What keeps us feeling safe is how police and first responders worked that night. Without them, the death toll could have been higher. What we have shown the world is that while Las Vegas might be a city known for its carefree attitude, we are a strong community in the face of tragedy. We’re fighting back with positivity, proving that we won’t come crumbling down when struck, for we will ricochet and stand together. We gave each other a shoulder to cry on. We donated blood and blankets, even offering our roofs over their heads. Airlines gave free tickets so these families could come to be
with their loved ones as long as they can. Hotels offered free rooms to families who had to travel to mourn and or praise, depending on the outcome of their loved one. We came out in full force. Some students were absent because they wanted to stay home with their families, but many tried to donate blood. The blood drive lines were so long that the wait time was more than four hours. Organizations had to ask for people to come in on a later date. Food banks were packed, too. Families untouched physically by the tragedy brought in food and water to help. What we have learned from this situation is to not let our realistic (or cynical side) get the best of us. What we learned is that Las Vegas will stick together because we’re #VegasStrong.

The pros, cons of changing your schedule

By: Affiniti Hall After a month of settling in to the school routine, 300-plus Bonanza students found themselves with a new schedule. Of course, 300 kids is small compared to the entire student body, but that’s still enough students to feel disrupted in their routine, whether it be class routine or lunchtime engagement. A schedule change can affect you in a good way if you ask with good reasoning, but other ways could be bad. If a student doesn’t like one of their classes, he or she should ask the counselor for a schedule change. A positive outcome of that is the counselor accepts the request and changes the schedule. Another positive about a schedule change is when the route to their new classes is on the same path as the old one and their lunch is the same.

The counselor doesn’t know how big of an impact it can take to a student’s academic and social interactions. Also, a student can luck out and be switched into a different period, but keep the same teacher. With pros there are cons. A few cons would be when the schedule change seems random. Another reason a schedule change would be bad is when the students ask for a change and they switch the wrong class. It can be an inconvenience to a student if his or schedule gets changed and they now have to eat alone at lunch, or go from one end of campus to the other. We all know how
difficult the hallways can be during passing period. A schedule change should only happen to a student if it’s absolutely necessary because the counselor doesn’t know how big of an impact it can take to a student’s academic and social interactions. Yes, the classroom is most important on campus, but we’re also here to learn how to be better citizens, and socializing is a part of that. If a student isn’t happy with the classes he or she receives, that student should would go to the counselor (which is already the normal routine). From there, the counselor should only approve the
change for a really good reason. There have been a few cases where a student wanted a schedule change, but the counselor switched the wrong class. Also, often times, a student will have a legitimate reason, but the counselors seem unreasonable and won’t change it. Maybe the real issue here is better dialogue between counselors and students, not really with the schedule changes happening. A schedule change can have two effects on a student; it van have a good or bad effect, which mainly depends on the student’s situation, and also on the student’s perspective.
Homework interferes with everyday living

By: Jayla Griffith School has started and the homework has already begun to flood us. This year, there are now seven classes and that extra class means more homework. That means less time to fit in extra-curricular’s, and one more class to stress over. Even though all of this is based off of effort or laziness, it can still be a major challenge. Sports shouldn’t take up all your time, but neither should school, because when it comes down to it, it can be so much pressure on that student/athlete. Teachers still assign homework that can take up to an hour to complete. That makes about two to three hours of just homework. That leaves little to no time for sports and an insufficient amount of sleep. All this homework also withdraws time to study, which is very impor-

tant for school because tests are now worth 70 percent of your grade, while homework is only 30 percent, which would hardly boost your grade. Homework shouldn’t be as much as a review or study guide, because clearly test scores are 40 percent more important. If homework can be completed in class, that would be so much easier, or if you have a free period to do it during school hours. We all of course want the best grades,
and homework isn’t going to help us, reviews will, but many sources and studies have shown it’s displayed no improvement. The positive side to homework is that it gives us an idea and kills some time if we really need that much help. The negative side to homework is that it uses up a lot of free time and doesn’t do much for us. Obviously, nobody likes homework unless it’s an elective or a class they enjoy. The most homework comes from your core classes; math, science, history and English. Schools should minimize their homework for students because we get super stressed
with everything going on in our lives outside of school, and can’t keep up with it all, especially those who have honors/ AP courses. Maintaining that GPA for sports and keeping grades at a 60 percent and higher can be challenging in some classes. Wasting time by doing homework outside of school is giving us less time to study for important tests and quizzes. Overall, homework is a waste of time and doesn’t really affect us much for gaining knowledge. We should get the opportunity to finish it in class and call it “schoolwork” instead of “homework”.

How long does it take for you to get on the bus, wait for your lunch, or even get to class? Waiting is something we all hate and it’s in our daily lives. For those who don’t have a car and rely on the bus, it’s an awful experience. You have to pretty much count on the bus to come and pick you up in the morning before school. You either get to your bus stop late and it’s not there, or something I go through, when I get to my bus stop and the bus driver is late, I’m stuck waiting because it’s my only source of transportation. When it comes to waiting for your bus after school, our only thoughts are getting home. We don’t want any problems with our bus, or if your bus isn’t there and you have to get on another bus. That’s irritating because if your bus isn’t there then that means you have to get on another, crowded bus, that arrives late to your stop. Not only do you wait for your bus, but you
There are the ones who hang out in the line with their friend that makes the line look longer and gets you thinking that it’ll take forever, but in reality it’s not going to. We also have people who just like to hang out around the lunch lines and it gets other people confused on who to be behind if they’re in line or not, and if you’re waiting behind them this whole time you’ve pretty much wasted your time behind them. When it comes to venders it gets packed quickly, which means more waiting if you aren’t there quick enough. That’s why most people run or fight for a spot in line, because we all hate waiting. For some venders, you can pre- order your food, which is really convenient, but for others you’re stuck waiting. Something I do to prevent waiting in line is give someone my money to get my food for me because they get there faster then I can. The more we wait in line for our lunch, means we get less

also wait for your food. A big struggle when it comes to waiting for my lunch is every time I’m waiting to get my food, I get stuck waiting behind the people who aren’t even paying attention to their surroundings and not getting their lunch, or people who aren’t doing their job and slacking to get the food out to people quickly. That results to people switching in between lunch lines and switch from one line to another seeing that its going faster. Then the line you were just in was going faster and you’re just waiting there regretting that choice.
time to eat. It’s all a process we don’t want to be in. Waiting to get to a class is dreadful. I hate when people stop in the middle of the hall and makes everyone behind them wait and find a way to go around them, it’s really annoying. It makes the hallways crowded and many people late to class. We also have the people who walk slow in the hallways and you need to slip in and pass them, something I always do which is very troublesome. That’s why most of us can be late and if that’s the case, tell your teacher that you’re going to be late some days because of the crowded halls and the trouble you have to go through. I don’t like waiting. Having to wait is a penalty in its own. No one wants to get stuck with it and everyone does his or her best to avoid it. Make it easy for everyone and don’t be the person or the reason someone is waiting.
Enduring Las Vegas heat is a struggle

By: Angelica Velazquez You would think people that live in Las Vegas have gotten use to the excruciating heat, but no, we haven’t. Heat affects people’s lives every single day and honestly it’s the worst thing ever. Especially if you are a Las Vegas local. We get heat 70% of the time all year round and its something a human being can’t get used. The heat has always affected my mood. It makes me grumpy and in the mood to not talk to anyone. If you were to talk to anyone in my family, this statement would be true. If I could choose to have have spring and winter all year, I would. Anger isn’t apart of my personality and a glorifying red dot in the sky shouldn’t be the reason why I have bad days. The 105-degree weather we have here in Vegas is the worst. It makes me want to stay home all day and just eat ice

cream. Even looking outside is hard with the blaring hot sun just looking down upon you, ruining your life. This makes you not want to go out and be unsocial. The worst weather is during summer, the time where us students don’t have school. The time where we are finally able to go out on Tuesday night without having to dread about going to school the next day. Heat shouldn’t be the reason why our days feel like we are being burnt alive. To get on a serious note,
heat does cause dizziness, especially for a person who is prone to be dizzy all the time. It is the worst feeling ever, and just imagine feeling that all day for weeks. It sucks, and not to mention the nasty sweat that runs down our face by just taking a step outside. Some people can get heat exhaustion or even a heat stroke. According to Children’s Hospital in Colorado, heat exhaustion can also be a reason that causes a heat stroke and can give a person a fever of at least 104 degrees Fahrenheit. Heat exhaustion can cause heavy sweating, goose bumps, nausea, etc. These are the worst things to get because getting hot just by being outside is
bad. Imagine it getting worse and you’re feeling like you cant help yourself. Heat strokes can be caused by heat waves and can even cause fatality. A recovery from a heat stroke can last up until two months and it can damage your brain, kidneys and even other organs. So we need to be careful and keep hydrated as much as possible. We don’t want to be over heating like a old used car so its best just to stay home and dream about all the good times you could be having during summer or just go out and take the pain. As of now, living during the summer days of the infamous hot Las Vegas, all we can wish for now is winter.

Peer expectation on every corner

By: Brenda J. Ramirez-Perez Expectations are what most think parents and teachers want from a student, but they’re not the only ones. Even the closest of your friends often expect something, even if it’s small. But what exactly are peers expecting? “I think they expect me to be respectful, to work with them, and to participate,” freshman Jessica Ramirez said. Most of the time, teenagers are looking for some sign of respect, but their friends are searching for other parts of their personality and hold them to a higher standard. “My friends expect me to be funny and cool-headed, I

Senior Sarah Hornsby feels similarly. “I think my friends expect me to make mistakes sometimes as most people make mistakes,” she said. “They also expect me to treat them with respect and to know where to draw the line between something that’s funny and something that’s disrespectful.” But, it’s not just about what friends expect, but also
personal expectation. “I feel that I need to fulfill this expectation as it’s a basic human right,” Hornsby said. But, there should be a give and take in the classroom. “An expectation of mine I feel my peers should respect is the material,” Ramirez said. “My peers need to know that not everyone understands everything.” Whether one wants to put
an effort into fulfilling these expectations is up to the individual. “I haven’t fulfilled these expectations, but when I do I’ll feel very proud,” sophomore Tanpreet Kaur said. The pressure to fulfill a standard isn’t always a weight to be carried. “My friends are so good and they don’t expect that much from me,” Kaur said. “They love me for who I am.” Unlike Ramirez who shrugs off her peers’ expectations as something not important to her, others feel a weight being lifted off them. “I feel ecstatic when I fulfill my peers expectations as it revives stress and adds to my self confidence,” Hornby said.

While Volturo wants more time to complete school work, she still feels as though she gets the help that she needs. “Before Bonanza, I would not receive any help with my work, but here I am given more opportunities,” she said. Volturo suggested that teachers be more flexible with homework and due dates..
Personal expectations are what mean the most to DiazChavez. “I know that as long as I do my best and give my all in everything I do not have to prove anything to anyone,” he said. “At Bonanza, I feel that I can go at my own pace,” Gonzalez said. “Not all my teachers are the best, but they help stay focused and on track in my classes.” Gonzalez adds that teachers could be more supportive of students. “Teachers could support the individual student and their pace in classes,” she said. “Treat every student as if they’re going places in life.” Trejo has sound advice for those who are feeling pressure. “No matter how hard or confusing sometime may be, never give up,” he said. “Never bring emotions caused by one thing into another.”

NHS brings BHS together By: Gabrielle N. Ramos Schools. Society. Honor. There is one club that is worth your while. The National Honors Society, is one of many clubs at Bonanza High School. They try and help out the school the best that they can. The club goes out of its way to help those in need and accrue community service hours. “When the kids see that they get to help and see that there are people out there with less than what they have,” adviser Courtney Bauder said. “The kids learn to appreciate what they have.” Bauder has high expectations for her club. “I expect the students to come to the meetings and complete their community service,” she said. Bauder stated that she would like for her students to have expectations set for themselves. “We do many activities,” Bauder said. “Some of the things we do is the cake walk at Sadie’s, we recycle, we sometimes even go to soup kitchens and help out.” The students believe that it is a very easy club to be in. There is hard work involved in this club, but the students feel great with what they accomplish. Some of the members try to help out those who are not in the club. They look after some students and try to aid them no matter what. NHS helps Student Council set up homecoming hallways. “When the students see what they have done or accomplished, they feel good

According to Bauder, there is a process to get into the National Honors Society. “You must be inducted. You are nominated in your sophomore year,” she said. “There is a large amount of community service,” president David Een said. “But, I feel great when I know what that I accomplished what I intended to do.” He helps other members and he also help organize the events that go on. He likes to see what he does, helps the community, and loves the community and wants

Een gets involved in just about anything that he can. He wants to see other students or teachers help out with the things around them. He likes that he is able to go to the soup kitchens to give food to the less fortunate. Treasurer Micaela Carrillo is responsible for all the money the club has. “I appreciate what my club does by helping our community,” Carrillo
said. “My favorite part of my club would have to be helping the students or the people in the community. “When the students start their hours for community service, they see the difference between the lifestyles some people have,” she said. “There is a true difference between some people and how they live.” The teachers look at your behavior, citizenship and how you get your work done. The teachers expect a lot from the students that are nominated for NHS, the students always try to give their all. The National Honors Society can be good for a person especially if they want a different outlook on life. There are different points of view that the students get daily to weekly. A person will understand how thankful those people who no longer have a single thing to their name.
A movie you won’t want to repeat By: Manon Ladeyn Get a taste of horror with Scott Lobdell’s Happy Death Day. In this mystery thriller, a college student relives the day of her murder with both its details and terrifying end until she discovers her killer’s identity. Released on October 13, 2017, this movie has a playful spirit, along with likable characters and even some halfdecent life lessons. Scott Lobdell, writer of this movie, went to a different direction creating this dark comedy, as he is best known for his work on Marvels “X-Men” and “Generation X.” The main character of this movie, Tree Gelbman (Jessica Rother), plays her role quite well as a teenage girl who is trying to enjoy her birthday, soon to realize that this is her final one. That is, if she can figure out who her killer is. She must relive that day, over and over again, dying in a different way each time. Can she solve her own murder? That question is in everyone’s mind as they watch this movie, which gets the audience guessing right up until the end. Another character who is important, is Carter Davis (Israel Broussard), as he somewhat goes on this journey with Tree Gelbman to find the unknown killer. This movie has a soft side to it as the lead characters Tree Gelbman and Carter Davis have excellent chemistry. Although, there relationship is a nice part to the script, it doesn’t scare the audience. “Happy Death Day” would have been better if it was treated as an actual horror movie and not a
comedy, or as a comedy and not a horror film. The roles in this movie can be improved as the actor’s act too scared. Tree Gelbman for example, makes it seem, as the experience is scarier than it should be. There are numerous amounts of movies that create the same image, a teenage girl (obviously really pretty and
popular) that in horror movies makes the wrong choices and always dies at the end. This movie doesn’t have that exact timeline but it definitely relates. False advertising was present by making the movie seem like a horror film. This movie is more of a comedy than a horror film. When viewing the trailer, spectators may think of it as

scary. But don’t be fooled, trailers always have the best parts of movies to draw audience’s attention. The movie contained many surprising twists, which led on the mystery until the end. This film takes the viewers through the experiences and teaches the audience to live everyday as if it’s their last. Rating: 2/5

By: Decrum Hawthorne Is Wu-Tang Clan still nothing to mess with? Wu-Tang Clan is a hiphop group of men from Staten Island, New York City composed of east coast rappers. Going by their stag name RZA, GZA, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Insectah Deck, U-God, and MastaKilla are all the members of the group. Wu-Tang was formed around 1992 and made their first album in 1993 called “ Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)” Their rap style is known as old school rap or as a classics. The intros to most albums now a days try to form a story within the album and Wu-Tang is adopting new styles and com-

bine them with their roots. The samples of the Kung-Fu scenes are integrated well with the flow of the rappers in the album. When Method Man says “And if I beat you to the punch I punch you dead in your face” right after there is a fight scene sample of someone getting punched. That’s a well-used sample in play that not many rappers do. The beats were nothing too risky. Every song has the same generic as if it was repeating itself. It was nothing different or much to stand out except the intro. One of the rappers of the group RZA in “Why Why Why” didn’t go with the beat his flow just didn’t match. The intro production had a sample of trumpets like an intro to a movie than cuts to a beat that pairs nicely to a

There are several themes throughout this album like talking about society now a days, or even having to dodge the cop even in in the intro they say, living in the hood, Unity, and the youth.
In the song “Message” its really not a song it has all the theme and its talking about most of the theme it really is a message. The intro skit, Saga, and the outro skit continue about RZA saying he still has to duck the cop even in 2017. Rate 3/5 Some songs save the album from being another generic hip-hop album. Listen to it on Spofiy Google Play Store or Apple store it’s not like this new age of rap and this album will definitely bring that classic feel of old school rap. Rating: 3/5
Feel the broken romance

In the book Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon, the main character Madeline Whittier doesn’t have to imagine that, because she’s living it. Madeline Whittier is an 18-year-old girl who has a severe disease known as ‘severe combined immunodeficiency’. It’s when you are vulnerable to infectious diseases because your immune system can’t fight back. So basically, Madeline is allergic to the entire world. For most patients when they have SCID, they have to live in a sterile environment and that’s the case for Madeline. She has spent her whole life inside her house; and has never been outside ever since she was a baby.

Madeline has only interacted with two people for as long as she can remember. Those two people consist of her mother Pauline, and her nurse Carla. That’s until a mysterious handsome boy named Olly and his family move in next door. “For the first time in a long time, I want more than I have,” Madeline said. Olly’s family consist of his abusive alcoholic father, his angry sister, and his mother whom he tries to protect. Olly must be very special because Madeline was willing to risk it all just for him. He’s a teen heartthrob, dark, mysterious, romantic, witty, and passionate for what he believes in. The main characters are Madeline, Olly, Pauline, and Carla. The character that will most likely make you gasp
out of hurt and confusion is Pauline,Madeline’s mother. Nicola Yoon wrote Madeline in such a great manner because Madeline seems to understand our feelings as teenagers. She delivers it in such a wonderful way that makes us feel not alone. Not many authors write about such a serious issue that makes people realize that not everybody has it good but it’s okay to talk about it. Nicola did it in such a marvelous approach that captures the reader. Nicola Yoon has written two books. She is the #1 New York Times bestselling Author of Everything, Everything and The Sun Is Also A Star. “Just because you can’t experience everything doesn’t mean you shouldn’t experience anything,” Carla said.
When you first begin to read this book, you have pity for the main character, but as you read further into the story, you begin to sink into Madeline’s world. You begin to question things like, ‘would you have done the same thing?’ “He’s the biggest risk I’ve ever taken,” Madeline said. The book is done in a quick pace but it isn’t overwhelming, it has illustrations which were drawn by Nicola Yoon’s husband, David. The illustrations consist of list, charts, and conversations by Madeline and Olly. Overall, this book is a must read if you are looking to read a young adult fiction book that has a rollercoaster of emotions both good and bad. This book has a great story line, bitter plot twists and everything. Rating: 4/5

But, go-to makeup products really depend on the type of person you are. For instance, if you like one part of your face, you’re going to focus on that spot the most. The eyes are the attentiongrabbers of the face. Therefore, mascara is one of the go-to products. Telescopic by L’Oreal is an amazing mascara and it’s an impressive drugstore product, it coats each lash individually and serves a neat look. So if that’s what you’re into, you’re going to fall in love with this mascara. Eye shadow is an optional choice as well; depending on how much time you have to do your makeup in the morning. It can boost your look and make it seem like you put a lot of work into it. A go-to eye shadow palette that is mostly recommended by makeup artists is the Modern Renaissance palette by Anastasia. Its release isn’t quite recent, although it’s a very versatile product. The colors are perfect for the fall time in which we are slowly transitioning into. Eyebrows are the bases of your face, obviously not everyone’s brows are perfect, but you can certainly try to achieve the look suited for you. For a natural, fast way to do them, one would recommend a brow pencil since it only requires you to fill in your brows with a single stroke. It self-proclaims itself this title when you walk in the main entrance. As you walk you are greeted to vibrant culture and enthusiastic staff. Waiting time wasn’t as bad as someone may think because it looked totally packed. In total it took 15 minutes even with a pre made reservation. As my family and I sat down we reached for the menus and we could already tell this place was going to be good. The drink selection where great for those seeking something different than the traditional soda or water it had some many options such as

The sauce on this dish is amazing. It’s $30 but comes with tortillas, rice, beans, and assorted fish in a spicy sauce. The sauce stole the show. The portion of all of these dishes where well balanced for the whole family to enjoy and get in the action. La Mojarra Loca is served with rice and beans and topped
with shrimp and octopus and is a pretty decent size it’s rich, sweet, spicy, and so complex very dynamic. One of the more known dishes was the agua chile the clear shrimp served with green sauce and tomatoes, cucumbers, and onion. It could very well be one of the best dishes on the menu for only $20 it’s a steal its portion is big enough for the whole family to enjoy. The restaurant has way more options then just seafood. It has pasta, quesadillas to all kinds of alternates then your traditional seafood. La Mojarra Loca has variety of dishes for all ages, chicken fingers for kids and alcohol for the adults. La Mojarra Loca wins the appropriate title that it claims to be as of the of the best seafood places in town.

You see them playing against other schools, yet you don’t see the effort behind all those shots thrown pass the net, every strike made. Senior Rachel Murgatroyd plays for the varsity team. “I started volleyball freshman year because my mom told me I had to join a after school curriculam,” she said. She works hard after school and still gets home to do her homework. “It’s hard because you do feel tired when you arrive home from practice,” she said. “But it’s really having self control to be able to understand it will be worth it in the end.”

“I want the team to grow in both as a team level and individually.” -Elizabeth Rice, coach Of course everything comes with a price and for the price is her sleep. “I really only get around five hours of sleep a day,” Murgatroyd said. Murgatroyd doesn’t let anything come in the way of her and what she loves. “What motivates me most is a quote we have as a team,” Murgatroyd said. “We are what we repeatedly do, excellence is not an act but a habit.” Nicole Degro also works hard to balance both volleyball and her homework. “I do my homework in
class the day I get it,” Degro said, “I don’t want to have to worry about doing it after practice or a game so it’s easier.” After how long Degro practices, it’s great that she has a system that works best for her. “I practice from 2:30 to 6:30 every day,” Degro said. Something always keeps Degro going and motivation is always in her mind. “I put in all my effort in practices so I can improve,” Degro said, “I even keep my grades up so I can maybe get a

scholarship as well to ” Behind every great student is a great teacher. Elizabeth Rice is the coach of Bonanzas Volleyball team and she grew up loving volleyball. “I grew up playing volleyball,” Rice said. “The fact that i can share my passion with others makes me very happy.” Rice will do everything to show she’s here for the team and she’s not going anywhere. “I want the team to grow in both as a team level and individually,” Rice said. “I always bring a positive attitude and encourage them along the way.” Volleyball is a sport that can be overlooked at. With so much passion put in and given towards the sport and each other, there’s huge hope for them to grow bigger and better with all their positivity.
