Teachers and students together
Gabrielle N. Ramos, EOTT
By: Gabrielle N. Ramos Special students. Teachers. Relationships. These all come together to make something extremely special. There are very special relationships out there. Relationships between two people that don’t know each other. There are relationships with age difference. Extremely special relations start at school. The relationship between a special-needs and their teachers. Tracy Cuellar truly loves her students. “In this class we have a great relationship,” Ms. Cuellar said. “We are like a family, we are not just a class.” She describes the relation as a parent and a child. “ We try to do one-on-one work to show the students that we care for them,” Ms. Cuellar said. The students look at Ms. Cuellar as a motherly

figure. “My students like to be treated normally,” Ms. Cuellar said, “Just like any other student would like to be treated.” Some people know and understand what it’s like to be with special needs students. Some people just don’t know what it is like, but try to understand it. “We are teaching are students how to present themselves to others,” Ms. Cuellar said. “We give them privileges and rewards, but we also give punishments as needed.” Ms. Marci Balatbat is one of the teacher aids that helps take care of the students throughout the day. She helps in bigger ways anyone. “When my students know that they can come to me for anything, than I know that I have a bond with that student,” Ms. Marci said. “When Rebecca transitions smoothly with me, we know she is learning how to show other the right
thing to do.” Ms. Marci thinks of the all of the students like they are her own and she treats them all the same. She shows them the same amount of love and affection. “The students make our week or they make our day,” Ms. Marci said. “We are a really big family here.” They know that they are able to help their students because the students go to them for help. “The students are still learning how to react to each other and us as teachers.” Marci said. Mr. Michael Le is one of the aides that help the students in many ways. He is the students fatherly figure. He helps the students with work or he helps them with other situations. “We create a buddy system with them to teach them that they can rely on others and not just themselves if need be,” Mr.
Le said. He said it gives him more experience for his own kids. “We like the kids to know that they are normal, but they are special at the same time,” Mr. Le said. “We like the students to have good days and to be focused.” “I know I have done good with the students when I see Wessley with his yellow shirt on or when he wears his brand new jacket,” Mr. Le said. These people give the students the feeling of care, love, and kindness. All of these teachers and aides love their students. All the teachers treat the students as if they are their own. The teachers would do anything for their students. If the students ask for something they would get it for a reward. The students know that they are truly cared for here at Bonanza.
Guys v.s. Girls
They’re facing different ways because they have different views on Valentine’s Day.
By: Decrum Hawthorne Who’s paying for the food? When thinking about Valentine’s Day, it sets a tone for the whole day. “I get a better atmosphere and people feel closer,” Esequiel Escobedo said, a senior at Beaumont High School. It’s a day where a person can go all out and show true feelings to someone. “Valentines Day is a great way to express your feelings to your partner, it’s a good day to be creative,” Marlon Sambra said, a senior at Las Vegas High School. When kick starting a relationship it all falls on the first date. How can someone ask a person on a date? “I’d do a mini scavenger hunt that would ask someone out” Stephanie Moran said, a senior at Bonanza High School. What events are best? Also will the whole day be planned? “Yes, if we couldn’t do everything I had planned, that’s fine, but it’s good to have
“Valentine’s Day is a great way to express your feeling.” -Marlon Sambra, senior a backup thing to do,” Moran said. Or someone can take a more chill approach. “Other times we let the day play out,” Sambra said. It’s all about the mood of the date and how someone acts. Is it right to show true colors on the first date or be on best behavior for someone. “ I like to treat my date very nice and pay for the movies and food,” Escobedo said. “I’m nice to them, a goof, but also a gentlemen at the same time,” Sambra said. What does the perfect date mean? Nothing in life is perfect, but everything can go well and the night can be perfect in someone’s opinion. “A lot of talking going
to the movies and eating at a fancy restaurant after,” Sambra said. Some of the best dates last all day. “ It would be at the mountains to have a picnic and at night we stare at the stars,” Moran said. How does someone get the right gift to show how much love they have for their partner? What’s the perfect gift? “The person’s favorite flowers and chocolates, you know what they like,” Escobedo said. There are all kinds of gifts you can give for Valentine’s Day. “ I would give something that’s thoughtful, not just another expensive gift,” Sambra Said.
Decrum Hawthorne, EOTT
There are things that shouldn’t be brought up on the first date. “ You shouldn’t bring up anything negative because you don’t want to bring the mood down,” Moran said. No one wants to bring up money problems to a first date. So who pays for the event? “ Yes, I’d pay for the event because it’s respectful if you asked then you should pay,” Escobedo said. Finally if it’s that time of night when it’s getting late. What’s the right time to wrap up a date? “When you’re done with all the events you had end it with a movie,” Moran said. Everyone reacts differently on Valentine’s Day expressing their feeling in every creative form. So go out there and don’t be afraid the worst thing they can say is no, then move on. It’s better to know what they feel then to wonder what if.

By: Rhea Colli Relationships are difficult to manage, and it is especially hard to deal with when it’s toxic. Getting out of a relationship is not an easy thing to do for any gender. Loving someone can either leave a negative or a positive affect on one’s mentality. Though breaking up with someone is difficult, it’s possible to do and is necessary for the people who seek physical and mental freedom. One must be determined for the outcome, and they must be confident with their choices because it’s very easy for someone to get knocked down and belittled beneath their own worth. Having a strong sense of responsibility towards one’s self and health will evidently encourage someone to free themselves of a weight that does nothing but pull them down. “It is important to leave at the first signs of abuse, because it can become much worse later,” Senior, Alysah Martinez said. One may think that
EYE OF THE TIGER // 6
staying in the relationship is easier than getting out of it, but when someone enters the real world of toxic relationships, that mentality is programmed into their heads because that is the right thing to do in their mind. Victims in their relationships don’t realize the harm that they are doing to themselves by staying and dealing with the abuse. “The best thing you can do in an abusive situation is know your worth and know that whatever they are saying can’t hurt you,” Senior, Alexis Escobar said. But of course, there are times where words are not the issue and that’s when the person needs to seek out help and get as far away as possible from the violence. No one deserves to be treated beneath their own worth, and it’s important to know that, they do not deserve whatever harm that’s getting done to them. Everyone has their limits, and once they are broken, it reveals a new side of the person and they may suppress it because of their feelings towards their significant other.
When it’s time to leave Photos by Manon Ladeyn, EOTT
“I should’ve ended it a lot earlier, but it has taught me a lot in the end.” -Alysah Martinez “Making me do something that I’m not ready for is something that pushes me to the edge,” Senior, Elizabeth Carnevale said. It’s crucial to understand that a relationship is meant to be mutual and loving, there should be no feelings of misery or discontent and if there are, it’s time to let go of that person. Overall, relationships
can go many ways; it’s hard to assume that every situation is going to be the same. One must develop a hard-outer shell because the weak-minded are the ones that suffer the most because they cannot think for themselves. For anyone struggling in any type of relationship, just know it’s okay to ask for help and it’s okay to leave because everyone deserves happiness.
How to keep a healthy relationship By Katya Garcia “I would not wish any companion in the world but you,” William Shakespeare. Everyone has that special someone, not only dating wise, but also friendship wise. Although, how do you keep that relationship and make it healthy? Here are some ways how. Junior at Bonanza High School, Hana Deriso has a good healthy relationship. “Good communication, having fun together, little to no arguments, and make each other happy,” Deriso said. These are the qualities of a healthy relationship. “I have a healthy relationship with Kaya Calinsky for three years now,” Deriso said. They’ve maintained this relationship by understanding each other and talking over their problems, but that’s rare since they never fight. “Right now, our relationship is good, I don’t think we can make it even stronger if we tried,” Deriso said. “If someone would need advice for keeping their relationship or starting one I would tell them to talk through it and don’t give up and try to compromise with one another.” “On the other hand, an unhealthy relationship would be never telling each other anything that’s bothering them, being closed off, being angry with them, and generally not getting along with each other,” Deriso said. “Obsession is not a healthy relationship, don’t have your life revolve over theirs.” Deriso and Calinsky have traditions together, which
involve watching Grey’s Anatomy on Thursdays and watching scary movies, which are easy ways to keep a healthy relationship going. Deriso see’s this relationship with Calinsky to last a long time and they’ll be friends till the end. Sophomore at Bonanza High School, Aidan Andrade, has maintained a healthy relationship with Angel Corona since kindergarten. “We’ve kept this relationship by playing video games, always hanging out during and after school, and hanging out with other friends,” said Andrade. Some traditions Andrade and Corona have with each other is playing rank on “Rainbow,” screaming at each other in a certain way and they know what the other means. “A healthy relationship is knowing each other well, getting along, and staying connected all the time.” When playing their video games, they do end up arguing and yelling at each other for not doing the right thing, but they end up forgetting about the fight and let it go. “We can make our relationship stronger by spending more time together off video games, but I still like where we are in our friendship.” Andrade said. “If you want to start a relationship or keep one, find
ways to stay connected and talk everyday about everything.” Although, these are some signs of an unhealthy relationship. “An unhealthy relationship is when the other is making you feel bad instead of cheering you up and when you have to feel you need to be quiet because the other won’t let you speak.” Andrade said. “Obsession is not a healthy relationship because you want time for yourself and not revolve over the other person.” said Andrade. Andrade and Corona’s relationship will last because they’ve been friends since kindergarten and that won’t change. Junior at Bonanza High School, Ana Ramirez. “Trust, if there’s no trust then there’s a problem, and communications are some qualities of a healthy relationship,” Ramirez said. “I have a healthy relationship with Logan Webb, a three year friendship wise and 4 month dating wise.” A tradition the two like to do is wear pink on Wednesdays. They get along with each other very well, although at first it was weird for them because they had to open up to one another. Ramirez and Webb can get in arguments on decisions they make but it’s

not long until they forgive each other by talking it out. “We can make our relationship stronger by compromising with each other, when Logan likes to say bad words, but I feel like I’ve rubbed off on him so he’s not saying that many bad words,” Ramirez said. “To keep or start a relationship, you need to know what you want, stay true to yourself, start easy, they’ll love you for who you are.” Some things someone shouldn’t do in a relationship that causes unhealthy relationships is arguing, being on and off all the time, and bringing each other down. “Obsession is bad in a relationship, you should care for the other person, but not to the point where you don’t give him space.” Ramirez said. Ramirez sees this relationship lasting a long time, they’ve always clicked since the day they met. Everyone can keep a relationship, but a healthy relationship is a lasting and better one. Try improving your relationship, but do it the right way, so it’ll be unforgettable.

Striving for a healthy relationship By: Jayla Griffith Friends, family and partners all have something to improve in their relationship. Family relationships are the most important in most people’s lives. Junior Kayla Volturo shared what her relationship with her family is like. Volturo would describe her relationship with her parents as average. “I am closest with my mother, my father passed away,” Volturo said. “I think our relationship is normal, we disagree sometimes but we still love each other.” Volturo said. The relationship she has with her twin sister, and older sister is good, they’re all close and hangout together. According to Volturo, there isn’t much they do to stay close besides live in the same house. “The most enjoyable thing we’ve done together is driving around, we talked more and it was nice,” Volturo said. When there is an argument, also to Volturo, there’s nothing her family does but wait it out and give one another space. “Something we need to work on is communication after a fight.” When asked if she could live without her family, Volturo said she could, but would like to live with her twin and visit a lot. “I think that it’s very important to keep a healthy relationship with family so nobody emotionally explodes,” Volturo said. “One thing I wish to improve is bonding and hanging out more.” Senior Isaac Zepeda has got a bit to say about friendships. He would describe his relationship with his friends as close. “To stay close with one another, we hangout from time

to time,” Zepeda said. “We like to bond by going to the movies.” According to Zepeda, she doesn’t think fighting in a friendship is toxic, it just makes that bond stronger. “In an argument we usually just forget about it and do something else,” Zepeda said. “Personally, I could work on my anger problems, they tend to cause those arguments.” Zepeda agrees that the pros outweigh the cons because he enjoys those friendships. “It’s important to keep a healthy relationship because healthy friendships make happy people,” Zepeda said. “To keep a healthy relationship with my friends, we just spend
time together.” He says that he could live without friendships, but it would make his life super boring. Freshman J’lyn Junio is in a good relationship with her boyfriend, Jordan. Some things that he does, she doesn’t like. Mostly being that he makes the little things big. She described it as an unnecessary part of a relationship. To resolve those, they talk it out and work through it all. “Some things I do that he doesn’t like are who my friends are and how talkative I am,” Junio said. She agrees that there are a few fights
here and there, mostly on her part. Talking and seeing from each other’s perspective helps resolve these fights. “Fighting isn’t an abnormal thing in a relationship, but it does depend on the topic,” Junio said. Something she thinks they can improve on is building and having trust. “The most important part is a healthy relationship, if not, no one is happy.” Junio said. Relationships, whether its family, friends or a partner, there are so many factors in having a good relationship and so many reasons and ways to manage it. Everything is better when things are happy.
The sequel that amazes its audience By: Manon Ladeyn Ready for the ride of your life? Experience the thrilling Maze Runner: The Death Cure in theaters now. There is good suspense based throughout the movie, this creates an interest for the audience to keep watching until the end.
Wes Ball, an American film director certainly did not have a hard time creating these special effect as he is a visual effect artist and graphic artist. He surely did a good job as it is not too much, just the perfect amount of fantasy action. The main character Thomas (Dylan O’Brien), plays his role as a hero and leader. Testing Thomas not only physically but also mentally, this mission has proven to be the hardest challenge yet. Leading the Gladers on there final and most dangerous mission, he continues to surprise the audience until the end. Another character who is just as important is Teresa, played by Kaya Scodelario.
The audience must be aware of everything happening with this character, as she may surprise some people. Being a feisty character, she proves herself to be more powerful than anyone would have thought. There is a good suspense based throughout the movie, this creates an interest for the audience to keep watching until the end. The unexpected scenes that happen keep surprising the spectators until the very end. It can be hard to create this many movie series and being able to please the audience with images. The writer has done a good job making the series stand out. They all follow each other well, making it easy
to understand how and why something has happened. There is good chemistry in this movie, not only with the romance but also the brotherly bond. Thomas and Teresa keep us in the suspense for quite a while. Let’s just say that their relationship is complicated. However, the structure of this movie is all based around the brotherly bond that the characters have. They all fight for each other until the end and never leave one behind. Minho (Ki Hong Lee), Newt (Thomas Brodie-Sangster), Thomas (Dylan O’Brien), Frypan (Dexter Darden), and Gally (Will Poulter) are all in the maze in the first movie and are together through it all. They are the only family they have (or at least that they can remember), nothing and no one will separate them. The movie contains many surprising twist, which led on the mystery until the end. This movie series teaches the viewers a good life lesson to always, stick together. Rating: 5/5

Holy guacamole!
It’s a food party A fresh chicken alfredo casserole and strawberries ready to eat.
By: Jolie Qualls Winter foods don’t have to always be just the bland turkey and traditional meals we’ve been taught about. Casseroles: They are a popular dish in America, with everything from potato and cheese to chicken and rice. While this dish is enjoyable for all, there are several pros and cons to consider before attempting to create it. Pros: A pro would be the fact that if you have a small family, you easily have leftovers. It is also great to bring to parties as a main dish. It can be made to serve a handful of people. Cons: It does take quite a bit of time to prepare, let alone cook properly. It isn’t a good idea to start cooking it 30 minutes before you have to be somewhere since at the most it takes an hour or more to cook. Fried Chicken: Go anywhere in America and you
EYE OF THE TIGER // 10
Sweet, savory and delicious. will find some type of restaurant that offers fried chicken on their menu. Satisfying the carving for warm and crispy meal. Pros: If you’re too lazy to cook this winter and you want an easy savory treat, fried chicken is a highly recommended food. The chicken is warm and somewhat refreshing in for cold winter months while the breading gives the satisfying crunchy texture. Cons: However the warmth might not be suitable for warmer days. Stew: It is a healthy and hearty meal. It is rightfully considered a winter dish because of how it sticks to your bones in winter. Pros: Can be easily made, throw precooked meat and vegetables into pot of water and seasonings then let simmer
until everything is tender. It keeps you filled up and warm. It can be made at anytime of the year. Cons: Its not suitable for warmer or hot weather. You might not want to be full and sluggish when it’s over 100 degrees outside. Eggnog: It is widely known for its smooth and rich texture, popular as a winter treat or a substitute for a milkshake. It is a drink made from beaten eggs, cream, flavor and sometimes contains alcohol. Also like stew it is a good drink to enjoy in the winter because you can enjoy the drink hot or cold. Pros: Like a bowl of stew, eggnog is drinks that can stick do you bones when it’s cold. It may also fill you up quite easily.
Jolie Qualls, EOTT
It is a spicy but not overly spiced drink. Cons: Strawberry Acai: It is a good alternative to coffee. It is a good winter food because it is openly available throughout the year. It isn’t a seasonal drink. Strawberry is made with ice, white grape juice concentrate, citric acid, green coffee flavor, fruit and vegetable juice, water, freeze dried strawberries, and the acai mixture base. You might know this drink from Starbucks’ Refreshers. Pros: The drink is able to give the jolt of caffeine you need in the morning. If you don’t have or like coffee you can enjoy it like you would an iced tea. You have the choice to take out the strawberries and have it without caffeine. Cons: if you are a believer that anything over five dollars is too much money, it is quite expensive. The drink is not offered hot, only iced.
The love song enthusiast By Leslie Munoz February is known for being the month of romance. This is the time when romantic music is played constantly on the radio. Whether it’s a song about loving someone or songs about getting over someone, there is always an artist that releases songs throughout the year that get played the most during February. One artist is Ed Sheeran, he is a singer-song writer, record producer and guitarist. He is most known for his love songs (some would call ‘cheesy’). Whether it’s about a past love, recent love, or memories that are too good to forget, Ed Sheeran has written or sang it all. Ed Sheeran has even written songs for popular artist such as Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, The Weeknd, Hoodie Allen, One Direction and more. Most of them being love songs. One of his songs is called “Perfect”. He wrote it for his fiancé, who is an old school friend. This song is a waltztime love song about wanting to get married, have kids, and growing old together. It’s his message to declare his love for his fiancé, saying that he wants to spend his life with her. There are three versions of this song, one is the original, one features Beyoncé called “Perfect Duet” and the other features Andrea Bocelli called “Perfect Symphony.” The original song came out on September 26, 2017, and the others followed. “Give me love” by Ed Sheeran is a song about wanting to love and wanting to feel love in return. “Give me love like

His songs are love songs, for single people or people in relationships. never before cause lately I’ve been craving more.” He craves love because it’s like a drug for him. “We’ll play hide and seek to turn this around.” This lyric can mean that although they may fight as a couple sometimes, if it’s meant to be then they will find each other in the end. Not all his songs are about having a special someone. His songs aren’t just love songs, he also tells stories through his
music. He writes or sings masterpieces that when someone listens to them they can relate to it. Another one of Sheeran’s songs is “Thinking out loud”. This song is basically describing how he will grow up eventually, he’ll grow old mentally and physically but one thing that will never change in his life, is the love he has for her. It’s about loving one person for the rest of your life.
“When my hair’s all gone and my memory fades, and the crowds don’t remember my name, when my hands don’t play the strings the same way, I know you will still love me the same.” He’s telling her that even when they’re old, if her love for him will still exist, because he will still love her the same way that he did when they were younger. His songs are love songs, for single people or people in relationships. Yes, some may consider his songs to be cheesy, but others think that they are romantic and that he tells a different story every song he sings. Ed Sheeran delivers many emotions in his songs.

A Family Relationship
By: Angelica Velazquez Imagine living with someone you thought you were going to live with for the rest of your life, one day move away from you. You grow up living with your family members under the same roof for many years and memories that you’ve made with them feel as if they fade away when one of them leaves. I grew up always wanting to have my own room and just wanting quiet in the house, but now that I finally got what I wanted, I don’t like it. Even if it’s just my sister that left, it has made a big change in our home. We are all destined to leave the nest, but it feels like a slap in the face when reality finally hits you. Your youth is changing and you can’t do anything about it, except accept it. I lived with my sister for 16 years and I would say we were really close, we even slept in the same bed for as long as I can remember. My sister and I would always fight about wearing each other’s clothes or leaving a dish in the room, but it’s the little things that I miss the most about her. She was and still is my role model and I can happily say, I am the person I am today because of my family. My family has gone through many changes and lessons throughout the years of living here. So many fights and arguments over the dumbest things, but we are still family and we will never not be because we are one. I appreciate the experiences and vacations we’ve had together and I hope the rest of my family does too. Every-

I will always appreciate every single one of them including their mistakes and accomplishments. one needs to appreciate one another before it’s too late that we regret it later when one of them is lying on their deathbed. It is hard hearing that, but it is the sad truth. My family has always been very similar, but also very different, we’ve bumped heads many times, but it doesn’t mean we don’t love each other and no matter what we’re go-
ing through, we have someone there for support, as I would hope. Family is the only people you can truly trust. I understand my sister had her reasons to leave and I will understand when my brother and my parents decide to leave because it is there time to live the rest of their life. I am the youngest and I’ve lived
through a big part of their life and at this age, I understand it all. I understand how hard life is and when I get to the age of becoming an adult, I wish I can still have them there with me, but I know they will have their family by then and I understand. I will always appreciate every single one of them including their mistakes and accomplishments. I’ve learned to accept the fact that everyone is different and sometimes we won’t understand or support each other, but this is our life and all we can do now is accept.
